Sad news for Dublin Fish N Chips fans… They closed as of Feb 15, 2014 =( The restaurant next door is taking over the space =(

Ever since I returned to California from Oregon I’ve been on the hunt for some delicious fish and chips that was, for me, a weekly staple up north. I work in Pleasanton and have tried the fish & chips from a few places around the area and this is by far the best fish & chips around here that I’ve had the pleasure of tasting. Definitely appears to be a small family run joint. The dining room was empty when I walked in to pick up my to-go order, so the wait was non-existent. For the price, the portions are fantastic. The batter is, as others have pointed out, fried perfectly and not greasy and heavy. They have some items advertised inside that aren’t on their website’s menu, and they seem like they’re willing to go above and beyond to make what the customer wants. All in all, a good first experience and definitely a place I will visit again. Unfortunately, it appears as though their last day at this location is 2÷15÷14. As far as I was told they haven’t yet secured a new location, but hopefully they stay around Dublin so I can further enjoy their deliciousness whilst on my work lunch break.

It’s our first time here. The lady who took our order is super nice. This place looks like it’s family owned. I love the fact that the fish is fried to perfection… not so greasy like other fish and chips places I’ve been too. We ordered the Cod/Fries & Catfish/Fries…and loved every bite.

I was craving fish and chips so thought I’d give this place a try. I ordered the cod and chips and it was a mixed bag. The french fries were great — crisp, not greasy, just like I wanted them to be. The fish. .. I was excited at first because I could tell by looking at it that it was not flabby or greasy and it wasn’t. It was crisp and not greasy but, it was strangely hard. I mean I literally picked up the first fillet and went to break off a piece and. .. couldn’t. Kind of remarkable when you think about it. So, instead, I put some malt vinegar on it and dipped it in the tartar sauce and bit into it and. .. the fish fillet was so thin that it was more batter than fish. The fish fillet was maybe ¼ of an inch thick. So, that all said, the french fries were good, the fish batter is not greasy or flabby but it’s hard and the fish itself is so thin it’s not like the traditional fish and chips. Would I go back? No. But, everyone has different expectations. For fish and chips I like the traditional plump piece of fish in a puffy, crisp, but not greasy batter. That’s not what this is.

I’m glad that there are alot of good reviews because mine unfortunately isn’t as good as I wished. The place is family owned, they are very pleasant, but I’ve had much better. Keep in mind that this is not my first time there. I’m a huge fish and chips fan but this type of food can only be eaten once in awhile. Today was my one in awhile and once again, the food was just OK. The cod was cut into several thin strips instead two chunky strips that I’m used to. I’m not sure why they do it like that. The prawns were very dry, I’m guessing it’s due to being overcooked. Sorry to the nice owners but it’s my honest opinion.

Been here a few times for some fish n chips. They are pretty good. Owners are very nice also. The portions are a bit small though. Overall, its the best fish n chips place in the dublin/pleasanton area. Has a few lcd tv’s so you can watch the game while you are eating.

Great fried menu! We ordered oysters, which were fried to perfection. Nice light flaky, crispy batter, and the oysters were nice and moist. The fish roll was so good! We really thought they were extra yummy! If you enjoy fried fish, oysters, prawns, give this little spot a chance. Good food and service at a great price. Nice local eatery. Excellent 2nd and 3rd visits!!! LOVE the Seafood Rolls! The batter fried cod is delicious, light and crispy/We enjoyed fried clams yesterday, they were done perfectly! We added fried Zucchini, great alternative for french fries. The new owners are doing an excellent job. Excellent fish & chips! Good luck to these young, friendly folks.

Getting good fish & chips is hard until i found this place, make sure you get the Alaska pollock for a better portion of fish

Family ordered sack of cod & prawns and a sack of chips. Seemed good. Batter was tasty, everything nice n crispy and portions were good! Problem was after the meal and how the 100% deep fried dinner settled in my stomach. Remainder of the night… Not so great! But sure… Try it! Maybe your stomach is stronger than mine!

Very friendly owner. Standard dive. Appears owners are relatively new(my guess is within last 12 months). Forgot to watch to see if they use frozen or freshly dip their fish but overall a good meal. Had my meal there as fried food just doesn’t travel well. Crispy and tender cod. Fries crispy and standard par. Wife had clams and was pleased with it Will be my go to for fish and chips in the Tri-valley area. 3.5 stars.

My coworkers love coming here for lunch and have probably been here 5 times in the past 1 – 2 months. I only went with them once and I probably won’t be going back again… It’s a pretty small hole in the wall type of place. Everything on the menu is fried. There are lots of combinations of chips and ___that you can get here: shrimp, chicken, cod, clams. I got the chicken and chips. Came with six pieces of fried chicken and some fries and I think it cost $ 5-$ 6? The food was decent but nothing about it really stood out for me.

I never eat fish and chips because it’s not too good for you. That in mind– when I do eat fish and chips I come here. The couple who run the spot are always nice. The battered fish is never mushy inside and always crispy outside. They serve Bud on tap and the place is usually pretty clean. It’s everything you’d expect from a mom & pop fish and place hip spot. $ 10 gets you a meal and a soda. That’s about standard these days. But the most recent time I came in I was waiting for my order and a regular customer came in. The owner knew him by name. I thought it was cute until he said his 35 year old wife just had a heart attack. This made me want to to push ups and go for a run. I can’t eat this enough to know the folks by name, but like that interesting man says… «I don’t always eat food that will kill you, but when I do I prefer Dublin Fish’n Chips.

I have been coming here on and off for years. I have always order the combo basket which includes Prawns, Cod Fish and Chips(fries). Every time the Prawns are perfectly cooked and the fish is tender and flaky inside the deep fried batter. This is an older no frills place, you come in, you order and pay, then 10 minutes or less you got your order. All there fish is hand battered and in my opinion is pretty tasty.

With this review I want to exclaim the death of Fish-n-Chips in America. This is a staple for the British people and when done well, it’s something to savor. Part of me is willing to buy this Asian family a return ticket to England to learn the secret of making Fish-n-Chips but alas it would be a waste of time because Americans are not big on this food. Low volume leads to stale food and cutting corners. Someone please please tell this family to close shop and move on. The best we can expect here is Long John Silver, which is already pathetic… My advice, want chips? Go to 5 Guys Burger My advice, want fish(especially cod) go to United Kingdom!

This place has been around for a while and I’ve always wanted to try it. Now that I have, it’s not on my radar anymore. The restaurant is old. Needs some updating and a good cleaning. The family that runs it is nice enough, but the fish is mostly batter. The chips are o.k. too. Needed to add A LOT of salt and pepper and tartar sauce and vinegar to get some taste to it. It was very bland out of the gate. Everything in the restaurant looked really old and was covered under an old layer of grime. That said, it was inexpensive. So, for the target market, I guess it’s o.k. The ATM/Debit card set up was kind of weird. You had to get cash in $ 10 increments. Depending on how much your food was, you’d get $ 10 x and get cash back. Plus, they charged you a $ 1.50 fee. Weird. For my money though, I think I’ll skip this next time I’m in the mood for fish and chips. John

Not from the Dublin area, I was looking for a place to eat with the help of my of handy-dandy GPS restaurant locator when I saw«Dublin Fish & Chips». I thought to myself, «Dublin, an Irish name, they should know something about fish and chips». I was wrong. I should have known this was not the place to go when I arrived and the place was empty. And this was during the lunch hour rush. But I took a chance wanting to give this place the benefit of the doubt. Besides, I was already in and I didn’t want the owners to feel bad. I ordered the combination(shrimp, fish and chips). And to be honest I was really disappointed. Let’s start with the batter. It was not beer batter like I had hoped, but more like tempura. It could have used some kind of seasoning, because it had NO flavor. Now for the fish. Like someone said, the fish was was really thin. In fact, there was more batter than fish. It was like as if they took the size of a normal filet and cut its thickness in half. They should call this dish, «Batter and Chips». As for the shrimp, it was dry and tasteless. I don’t think it was fresh or even frozen fresh. And finally the chips, or fries, I’ve had better. I know these fries weren’t fresh either, probably frozen from a bag. Sad to say, I barely finished my meal and walked out. As I drove away, I said to myself, «it would have been better to buy the breaded fish at the grocery store from the frozen section. As least I could have fed two or three other people». And It’s too bad, too. Having the name«Dublin» in their name, I thought it would be a good place. I hope the owners read this and do a better job(like fresh«meaty» fish, fresh shrimp, real potatoes and add seasoning).

I’ve been coming here since I was a little girl and the place hasn’t changed one bit! Is this the best fish and chips I’ve had? No. But I haven’t found any better in the Tri-Valley! In addition to fish(either pollack or cod), you can get fried clams, shrimp, and combination platters of fish and shrimp. Ketchip and tartar sauce are available in squeeze bottles(chilled), and there is malt vinegar as well. Cash only!

Tonight was the first time my husband and I came here for dinner. Service was great and so was the food! I had the cod & chips — — very yummy! My hubby had the cod combo — — also very yummy! This may become a new«neighborhood haunt».
