Typical Shoney’s. Food is average. The buffet was hot and fresh. The leftover break fast items hanging out didn’t look too appetizing but we came for lunch. Server was very nice. Better than drive through when traveling.

This review is on strawberry pie only! For some reason I have a special place in my tummy for strawberry shortcake and strawberry pie. Strawberry pie has been elusive from me for the past couple of years, since I think the first time I tried it was in Ohio, and Ohio is a long ways from the east coast. In fact, I even had a cousin from Ohio bring me one on her road trip over, however it did not seem to leep well. Well now its 2015 and I was on my own solo roadtrip. As soon as I saw a sign for Shoney’s, I immediately knew I must inquire about the elusive strawberry pie, I say elusive because for some reason I do not see it in the north east region. So i decide first to call the restaurant since my cousin has told me in the past that it is a season item and fortunately they said they do carry it. As i make my way towards the restaurant, a heavy rain falls which confuses me as to interpret it as a sign to not go? But in reality that could not be the case, since I was still on a long road trip and to go back on 81 or stop for pie on a heavy rain seems only to lead to the conclusion this rain is about pie. As I parl at the restaurant, the heavy rain stops in matter of minutes. I go in and ask again about the strawberry pie. It seems they still had to make the pie so I decide to order onion rings and coffee while waiting. I decide to take the pie on takeout with plans to eat it on the next rest area stop. The pie seems to cover the phrase«beauty in simplicity». The pie was loaded with fresh strawberries and the crust added a nice crunch to combo. And of course, strawberries went well with the whipped cream. I have some mixed feelings over the gelatinous red sauce that came with strawberries though it didn’t taste«real» for some reason, it kinda tasted like mild flavored jello. Nonetheless I was simply happy to cross of one of my «to eat» items on my foodie list, not to mention the sentimental factor. Give it a try and let me know what you think, don’t forget the whipped cream.

My brother and I went there since it was right near our hotel. Good food, people are nice. What else can you ask for!

Terrible. Everything on the buffet was cold curdled and disgusting. I’m feeling ill, and I’m certainly in for a long night tonight. I regret not leaving immediately. The waitress was nice. The salad was good. If you come here, DONOT get the buffet. My guts are cramping as I write this :( I will never eat at a shoneys again.

Instead of the rice pilaf, I wanted a side salad with my salmon dinner(same price as the rice pilaf choice that’s on the ‘sides’ section). I couldn’t have it because I would be charged an extra dollar? Why. Ok, then when my friend ordered his food, he was told sorry they were out of the cole slaw advertised on his menu choice. He asked to sub a side salad and same answer. Ok-you are OUT of the cole slaw, that is the fault of the restaurant. You can’t suck up the dollar on account of your meal lacking the side item that you advertised on the menu? That’s pathetic. Well I asked for extra steamed veg instead of the rice pilaf. Guess how my food came out? Yup, with the rice pilaf & veg. Oh well so much for all that. At least she was good at refilling our sweet teas(that was good). In the end, she bumped it up to ‘two’ stars when she realized I didn’t get my extra veg but got the rice pilaf, which I didn’t want. She apologized & asked if I wanted more veg. I didn’t because the veg were meh, not really warm, almost cold so I asked for the fruit and that was okay. All in all, this dining experience was so-so, but I probably would pick fast food next time.

One of the best Shoney’s I’ve eaten at. Great burgers and club sandwiches. Buffet is OK but not great.
