Best cake donuts! I’m not a huge cake donut water, these are wonderful. You order on one side of the dock, then leave that little building and go across and can watch them make it. Don’t wait until you get home to eat them! Go outside, enjoy the calm water and EAT! No way you can only try one while in Duck! They are 5 star worthy.

I think these donuts are vile, even if my family loves them. Heavy and soaking in the oil they were fried, I find no redeeming quality in them.

Mmmmm… these donuts were some of the freshest I’ve ever had. It’s a unique little spot… I’ve never had ‘build your own’ donuts before but I liked the concept. We had an array of combinations though the kid behind the counter steered us towards the wet glazes since the other toppings would stick better. Favorite combos were maple, bacon and salted caramel and peanut butter, oreo and hot fudge. Also loved that we could watch them making them and assembling the appropriate toppings… and of course eating them while still warm!

Great staff, great idea and great donuts! You can have tons of great combinations in toppings and they are generous with the toppings. I had an iced mocha which was also excellent and a good price as well. We love DD!

This place is great! There’s nothing like coming home with a box of hot donuts made to your specification. You pick the coating, the sprinkling and the drizzling and _then_they make the donuts. That’s right. You heard correctly. Those bad boys aren’t made until after your commercial interaction has completed :). As a reference, today, I got blueberry frosted, lemon frosted with coconut, and maple frosted with bacon and salted caramel drizzle. Happy sugar high!

Obviously any place with a 4.5 star average is going to be great. I had high expectations and Duck Donuts delivered. The line may be long but it moves fast. They have donuts(obviously), coffee, and assorted drinks. The donuts are all made to order. You start with a bare donut, add a glaze, add a topping, and add a drizzle in any of their many combinations. You pay and go to a separate area to pickup. It all moves fast and is interesting to watch. We ordered a dozen of assorted kinds and they look like little works of art! I want to eat them all. So far I’ve only tried one, which is why my photo is missing one, and it was delicious. I’m really looking forward to the maple bacon, the chocolate with salted Carmel drizzle, and the peanut butter hot fudge. How many donuts is acceptable to eat in one sitting? A must visit if you are in Duck. I think they have a few other locations throughout the outer banks as well.

Great donuts. Nothing like it when they are warm. All the different drizzles and toppings make for some great options. Peanut butter and chocolate!

YUM!!! These are hands down my favorite donuts, not just because of how good they are but how many options there are to have a new donut every time. They’re more cakey than Krispy Kreme but are served warm and fresh with a slight crisp on the outside. When you get there go to the building on the left(or jump in line) then pick up your order at the building on the right. It’s fun watching them make the donuts in front of you. Service seems to have gotten worse as crowds have grown, but nothing bad. When I’ve gone when there’s no wait the staff is incredibly kind and attentive. Obviously weekends and breakfast time are busiest, so your best bet is to stop by on a weekday. The donuts are even good reheated the next day. Must stop when you’re in the outer banks!

Never a let down. This place is the real deal. Fresh, warm donuts that are slightly crunchy on the outside and gooey soft on the inside. MMMMMM!!! My favorite combination is lemon glaze with coconut sprinkles and raspberry drizzle. My boyfriend has a soft spot for chocolate and got the chocolate glaze with raspberry drizzle. MMMMMAZING! They serve milk(including chocolate) and other drinks in a refrigerated door in the line. There’s no eat-in option, but that’s probably a good thing since the line can be quite long. Well worth the wait, if there is one. Service is really quick and painless. You may even get free samples while you wait!

Had some Duck Donuts yesterday; they were delicious. My son picked them up in the morning and we enjoyed them throughout the day. He ordered an assortment and they custom made them while he waited. They were still warm when he brought them home.

Let me sum this up: I have never had a donut this good. A diverse selection of flavors, toppings, and frostings? Check. Made to order, as in the dough doesn’t actually plop into the fryer until you’ve placed your order? Check. Warm, doughy, sugary goodness? Check. The closest donut that can compare to these donuts was from Krispy Kreme – and there’s no competition. Duck Donuts blows them away in freshness and flavor. They were still just as amazing a day later. I just wish they actually had a location in Southern California. I’d definitely drive 100 miles for a half dozen, but flying across the country is a little much.

Sometimes there is a dissenting opinion. We have purchased and eaten Duck Donuts twice in the past three weeks, once in Kill Devil Hills and once at the store in Duck. They are somewhat different from typical cake donuts. They are definitely served warm and fresh, but that does not seem to be an advantage. We purchased three naked donuts this morning and each ate one while warm. These things are stick-to-your-teeth greasy goo. Neither of us liked the texture. The one that was eaten cold 5 hours later was a little better, still not great and still sticks to your teeth, just not as bad. If you get them warm and dipped in any of the icings, just being within 100 yards could induce diabetes. The icing is crazily overdone making them so sweet as to be sickening. Again, they are a little better eaten cold. I know these things are popular. We found them gooey, exceedingly sweet(if iced) and very greasy. To be honest, more standard cake donuts at a place like Dunkin’ Donuts do not suffer the same issues, at least not to this extent. In the Midwest, I occasionally will buy a donut at Casey’s General store and they are considerably better. I know donuts are not health food. Nothing I eat is, but these things are off the chart in every way possible and not in a good way. Sorry, someone had to say it.

You order in one part & pick up on the other side. Cooked to order & amazing! I had the reese’s special while my husband had the creamsicle & coconut shred. So good, so moist, so fresh! Coffee was also good. Do not hesitate to go!

I rarely eat donuts unless I’m starving and there’s no other options. I’ve just never been a big fan. Duck Donuts are the exception. Every flavor that I sampled was divine! I especially loved the French Toast donut and the Maple Bacon donut! I realize it sounds weird to put bacon on a donut, but it’s delicious. Trust me. It’s not preserved bacon bits either. It’s fresh bits of real bacon. I like that the donuts are made to order, versus sitting in a display case all day. The donuts are served fresh and hot and it sets them apart from the other donut shops. Duck Donuts has an interesting setup. It is comprised of two shops located across from each other at the plaza on the water in Duck, NC. The first shop has a gift shop and an ordering station. You might wonder why you’d want to buy gifts from a donut shop, however, the Duck Donuts shirts and towels are so adorable. Everyone I was traveling with ended up buying a shirt or a hoodie. I also bought a 4-foot pool inner tube shaped and decorated like a donut with sprinkles(one of life’s necessities). After you order, you walk across to the bakery to pick up your freshly made donuts. I truly wish we had one of these in Buffalo. They were the best donuts I’ve ever had in my life!
