Visited Ducks Cottage on a vacation to the Outer Banks and I think its quite a gem. Loved the shops feel and atmosphere. I was with a group, so didnt have much time to browse the books, but I did enjoy an iced coffee and bought a bag of coconut flavored ground coffee that we enjoyed back at our condo. The outdoor seating area was quite inviting and the location was convenient to some other shopping areas. Next time we’re in the OBX we will definitely stop back!

Best coffee I got in the Outer Banks(out of three shops I tried). They also had a good selection of teas according to my wife. Service and the muffin were also excellent.

This is a nice little shop in the center of Duck and a quick place to grab a coffee. It is also a small bookstore and has some gifts, muffins and biscotti. So, if you need a quick book or toy for your kids before a road trip, it’s a good stop. On the coffee, the Coconut Crunch coffee they have is excellent and I like the iced coffee. On the espresso, I’d go elsewhere. This is not a place to go for a good espresso or latte. Don’t get me wrong, if you are into flavored coffees, you’ll be fine. You know the lattes you get that taste like a candy bar? You’re covered here. But if you want a very carefully drawn shot of espresso, topped with velvety steamed milk and maybe a little design on top… it’s not your place. You’ll do better making it at home. I haven’t seen a barista quality product here. So, go for coffee or a quick sweet drink. If you want a really solid espresso drink though, head over to Treehouse. Over there, coffee is an art. Here it is a drink. …not that there’s anything wrong with that, just want to point the coffee snobs in the right direction.

I give them two rather than one star bc the place is cute, they have a clean restroom and seating. However, Weakest coffee I’ve had since I can remember! I couldn’t drink it. Rather shameful for a place that specializes in coffee as well as pastries(the cinnamon roll seemed day or two old), and books, etc. But I won’t fuel up there again.

A fantastic coffee shop! Nice book selection. The staff often seems indifferent about its customers, but I don’t let that ruin my experience.

It’s hard to believe that this is my first visit to this coffee shop. But to my recollection it is. I usually don’t venture as far North. You will find them in the Waterfront Shops. Plenty of parking, so no worries. You can also access them off the extended Duck boardwalk. The shop looks like a cottage and is quite fitting with the area. The porch was small, but a few chairs and tables is perfect for a relaxing retreat with a Latte. Once inside I discovered this is more than a coffee shop. They have a terrific selection of books and carry local book club books too! The interior was very cozy with with floors but undeniably cramp when a few customers are browsing. I stepped up to order and the board had some specials. I decided on a large Hammer Head that had carmel and toffee. I as disappointed to learn that they only serve coffee in paper, even if remaining on the premises. The young female staff person was nice and helpful enough. The price seemed good at about $ 5 with tax. The coffee popped up very quickly on the counter. I decided to set out front, however there is a decent size yard in the rear that would be perfect for families. So I did a little people watching of runners coming in from a Thanksgiving run in Duck. The taste of the coffee was good, not great I’m sad to say. The latte did not have a strong enough taste of coffee, but did have some yum flavor at the top with the whip. I would like to try them again on my next visit and would recommend.

Nearly perfect setting and ambiance coupled with a pleasant attitude from the employees, an eclectic collection of books to read/purchase and the best cappuccino foam I’ve found to date. It’s a quaint cottage(true to the name) as the hub of a small collection of local retail outfitters and some fantastic eateries. Duck’s Cottage offers a quiet respite for the weary shopper to receive a caffeine infusion for a pick-me-up or just a quiet corner in which to read and reflect if shopping is not your gig. I pulled the combination of imbibing in their coffee creation as well as enjoying the cinnamon coffee cake muffin while reading my book(Seveneves if you’re curious). The front porch is inviting with its ample wooden seats and view of the shops. Just around the corner is a wooden bridge crossing a duck and turtle pond to add some natural beauty to an otherwise sterile shopping experience. If you wish to sit inside, there is a small, Rattan, love seat and a few sparse chairs with small tables… all of which have a nice view of the pond and bridge. If you are unable to relax in this place, perhaps decaf is a better option than the espresso-based drinks. Seriously though, I was enamored with the cottage and look forward to my return. Thanks for keeping the Indy book shop alive and well.

Great place to grab a coffee and check out their book selection or snag a wifi connection for a bit. Locally owned & operated, their coffee is great and it’s a great place to hang while waiting to check in, throughout the week when needing a little escape and to grab caffeine for the long trip home.

Stopped in twice during a quick getaway to the Outer Banks. Small and very quaint shop. The staff was friendly during both visits. And, though during the second trip the line was out the door, things moved quickly. We tried a couple flavored lattes, an Amercano, and a capuccino… all were tasty. My only ding I’d give would be during the second visit I ordered a large drink, but the barista made a medium. When I asked him to change it to a large, rather than quickly doing so, he first defended himself, then switched to challenging me, then finally moved on to making excuses. …dude, just fix the order. Overall, good drinks, good atmosphere, and good staff. Definitely recommend.

We stopped for a morning latte while we waited for the other shops to open up. This place is fantastic. Lots of great books to choose from. We also purchased two of their hand sculpted clay coffee mugs. Pet friendly with a little spot to sit inside or else go out and enjoy the boardwalk.

By far, this is my favorite place in the Outer Banks — minus the beach of course! The Mucky Duck is my favorite drink served there. I always get some coconut crunch ground to bring home. I HIGHLY recommend getting coffee and books. They have a great selection of books also.

One of my favorite spots when I come to the beach. They make a great iced coffee and I usually end up buying more books than I can read during the time I’m here. Be sure to grab a pound of the Coconut Crunch coffee — it makes a killer cold brew. Great people and it’s always nice to spend money where it will stay local rather than go to a corporate HQ.

Great coffee. Coconut Crunch is a favorite. Get there early as they get busy soon after opening. There is not a lot of space in the store so waiting on drinks gets awkward.

This place is full of charm and character. The coffee is excellent, and the cinnamon roll was delicious! The staff was attentive and courteous. What more can you ask for? I like when I can pour my own coffee and make it the way I like it. I can do this here and I appreciate that. I will definitely be back!

I’m just rolling my eyes over the two and three star reviews here from people complaining that«they don’t have a blender for frappes». Give me a freaking break. Folks who are in Duck frequently know what a little local gem this is. The coffee is good, the store is locally owned and run by fantastic people. You can probably get your hometown newspaper if you’re away. There is a nice selection of books with some good recommendations. And best of all they are open all year so if you happen to be here in January you can still get a good coffee. Go try a mucky duck, hot or iced and appreciate the Cottage for being a unique and authentic part of Duck. Or go find the nearest Starbucks if you just want everything to be exactly like it is at home.
