Night and day experience. Been a while since I was there after a lack luster experience but this time was dynamite! I think it was the owner, he was sitting at a table doing paper work and stopped what he was doing to say hello. 2 workers came out of the back right away and took my order. They actually had the spicy cheddar sausage this time and it did not disappoint. Def my favorite meat they have, plus the brisket, Mac and cheese and spicy bbq sauce. Love this place and this location turned it around big time!

Dickeys is a chain that began in Texas many years ago. This was first visit to one — there are others in the area. It smelled like a good smoked meat BBQ joint upon walking in the door. Nice place — small with several big tables and a few booths. The prerequisite napkin dispensers were stocked and ready on every table. I stepped up to order a three meat sampler. Unfortunately, at 12 noon, there still was no chicken or turkey. They were still cooking. Are you kidding me? That’s a giant FAIL in my book. The owner needs to fix that FAST and get in early enough so the food on the menu is ready to eat. Like me, the guy in the front and back of the line all wanted BBQ poultry. I settled for ribs(two bones), beef brisket and ham. For sides I got the string beans and the baked beans. I was told they make all the sides. The brisket was good. Wasn’t hot in temperature. More room temperature. The ham was ok — sliced way too thin. The rib was disappointing. There are better places to get ‘QUE. The string beans and baked beans were good. I’m thinking the string beans were dressed up frozen. I’m going to return — but not without calling to see if the poultry is done.

Even free soft serve ice cream can’t save Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, with bland BBQ sauces and average meats and sides. Sometimes you see a two-star place and you think«it can’t be THAT bad.» Well Dickey’s isn’t THAT bad, but it’s pretty close. Hidden in a corner of a strip mall, Dickey’s offers quick service, a detailed online ordering system, and the opportunity to smell like a BBQ pit several hours after leaving. Simple tables and a woody décor dot the inside. I ordered the Westerner with pulled pork and turkey and coleslaw on the side, along with fried okra and waffle iron fries(with the Big Yellow Cup it came to $ 14.79). The sandwich was a little small, but the meat was reasonably flavorful. The sides were only average — it’s tough to screw up fried food, with the exception of the gummy okra. The worst part of the meal is what makes or breaks a BBQ place, and that’s the BBQ sauce. They offer three different sauces — honey BBQ, regular BBQ, and a spicy BBQ. The sauces were bland and uninteresting, with the sweet and spicy obviously being the regular sauce only with a little bit of honey/brown sugar and chili flakes in it respectively. At least the vanilla soft serve was good(pro-tip: get the big yellow cup and fill it with vanilla ice cream… the employees won’t care, as they seem just as uninterested as the food is lousy). Overall, Dickey’s is a safe skip unless you really have a hankering for bad food or a heart attack.

Quirky place with a busy menu. Meats are well cooked but dry, a container leaves warm sauce in three flavors out nearby utensils. I enjoyed pulled p sandwich and some bbq ham. Slaw, potato salad and beans were are excellent additions. Everything served on a metal sheet pan, except drinks in an overly large cup and self serve fountain or iced tea dispensers. I havent tried the ribs or brisket, perhaps later this summer. Free Soft serve and cones for the kids and the older kids too. Staff were very pleasant and the place showed attention to cleanliness(it was dead when we arrived) so I’m giving it an upgrade for alal that but its not out of this world meat — yet. A little over $ 20.

This place was a total disappointment. Blame it on my upbringing. I grew up in Maryland where pit beef and BBQ was served out of an old oil tank converted into a huge portable grill. The food was smokey and juicy. I took my daughter in for lunch, hoping for some BBQ goodness, so we ordered up kielbasa, ham, pulled pork with sides of macaroni and cheese and slaw. I was shocked when the gals opened the steamer and pulled out meat wrapped in Saran Wrap, cut it up and served it up. It was just cut up dry meat. Over to the side were my choices of BBQ. The sides were just okay. The best thing about the experience were the take home plastic cups.

Used Dickey’s for a party that I was having at my house. Food was amazing… everyone raved about how delicious it was. Husband works nearby and goes often for lunch, but I had never experienced so went with his suggestion. Ordered for 40+ people, ample portions too. Highly recommend!

Not the best but decent BBQ. We got the beef brisket and pulled pork sandwiches. The brisket was better but wasn’t as good as I’ve had in other places, seemed like it was missing some flavor. But we added some of their BBQ sauce which had a nice spice and it was a good sandwich overall. We enjoyed the baked beans and the Mac and cheese. We would consider going back to try some other items on the menu.

We got the full rack or ribs, macaroni and mash potatoes. I think the company must have hired new cooks. The ribs were great. They fell right off the bone and the spicy sauce was great. The mac and cheese was just okay. The potatoes were good.

The ribs weren’t bad(tasty and tender), but the sides need a LOT of work. What is it with folks just pouring Velveeta over macaroni?

A decent BBQ place with extra perks such as free ice cream and kids eat free on Sundays. The sandwiches were fairly large and the prices were average.

This the 2nd time I have eaten here and I can’t wait to go back. The ribs were fall off the bone and very moist. The polish sausage was just spicy enough for me and full of flavor. Same employees as last time. Very nice to deal with.

***Good example of Texas(Smoked) Sausages &KC Style Ribs. (3.5) ~ Good overall food & service. OURMENU: MEATS: * Kansas City Style Ribs =(4) very good. KC Ribs are trimmed even more closely than St. Louis style ribs, and have the hard bone removed, but they’re still meatier than baby backs;) And they tend to have little or no dry rub, but make up for it with a lot of Smokey notes. You’ll want to use one of their Wet Sauces, at the side counter for these, specifically the Original BBQ Sauce;) * Polish Sausage =(3.5) good example of Texas BBQ& the Spicy Cheddar one is really good too. * Beef Brisket =(3) ok… but too dry:( SAUCES: * Original BBQ Sauce =(4) very good balance of sweet & heat;) * Hot BBQ Sauce =(3.5) good * Sweet BBQ Sauce =(3) ok SIDES: * Fried Onion Tanglers =(4) very good * Mac-n-Cheese =(3.5) good… but I like a little crust in mine for texture * Bread(roll) =(3) ok… but a little bland DRINKS: * Unsweetened Tea =(4) very good * Sweet Tea =(3.5) good, but too sweet for me DESSERT: * Pecan Pie =(4) very good NOTE: There’s plenty of Seating inside plus(2) TV’s, but you can also order Take-out online. I’d recommend getting the(2) Meat Plate w.(2) sides. The Ribs & Sausages are a good start;) And keep an eye out for their Daily Specials Board when you walk in…

Some good. Mostly bad on my first visit to Dickey’s Barbecue Pit. Drove through the parking lot a few weeks ago and noticed it for the first time so I wanted to give it a try. I thought it was a little family owned spot, but after placing my order and looking at the giant souvenir cup they gave me and the pictures on the wall I realized I was wrong. That explained a lot of my curiosities about why the staff didn’t know the ingredients in the food, why the food was packaged the way it was, and why the brisket was the same color as the pulled pork. Also had some issues with the menu, essentially causing a scene in the process as I was trying to understand their prices. Let me just get into the food. The good: –the spicy bbq sauce –the westerner two meat sandwich –the contraption that toasts and butters the roll at the same time –the mac n’ cheese The average: –the baked beans –the original and sweet bbq sauces The bland: –brisket –pulled pork The bad: –the potato salad It’s not all bad here, it really isn’t, but if you find something you like, stick to it because a lot of the food isn’t outstanding. I’d like to try the ribs possibly, but I don’t have the most confidence that they’d be good. At the end of the day you got much better bbq in every direction when you think of Zachary’s, The Lucky Well, or Phamous Phil’s. Not to mention what’s a half hour away in Center City.

Short story: good food, bad service at this particular location. Full story: On two different occasions — and there will NOT be a third — my wife ordered food online from Dickey’s, and about 45 minutes later, I showed up on my way home from work to pick up the food. On both occasions, I had to wait about 10 minutes for my order to be put together, and both times, I had to wonder why. What happens from the time an order is placed online, to the time the customer walks through the door? The only thing I should have to wait for is any other customers being helped ahead of me… I can handle that, since it’s only fair. But once that’s done, my order should be bagged and ready to go so I can walk right out the door. That didn’t happen… I have to wonder if that ever happens. The second time I went to Dickey’s to pick up an online order, I was greeted politely and asked if I could be helped. I told the young lady I was picking up an online order. She asked if my name was Pat, and I said no. I gave my name and my wife’s name, then gave my last name. It took her and two other employees about a full minute to figure out what I ordered. And then they took 10 minutes to put it together. The young lady let me know that they were out of the chicken we ordered, but I could substitute something else free of charge. Having also ordered pulled pork, I chose brisket. But that never made its way into my bag. And while she did give me a $ 5 off coupon for my inconvenience, that doesn’t make it ok to not give me what I was told I would get. So while my wife and I definitely enjoyed the food, which was at a reasonable price, it’s not worth the really bad service. I regrettably have to conclude that the people that work there are idiots. Or maybe they have bad work ethic. In any case, they do discredit to a good chain, and for that reason, I won’t be going there again.

If you’re walking towards a BBQ restaurant and you don’t smell the smoke outside you should immediately lower your expectations. That’s what I did as I walked towards Dickey’s. Now, once you got through the door you could smell the smoke but you’ll also notice the sterilized Mom and Pop BBQ décor. It has the look of what a roadside BBQ joint looks like only it’s been mass marketed so it losses it’s charm. The menu offered standard BBQ fare along with all the sides you would expect. I chose a platter of brisket, pulled pork and spicy cheddar sausage with sides of baked beans and Mac & Cheese. This is my standard lets get to know you approach to BBQ. If these dishes don’t stand out, then nothing else will. The gentlemen working the counter were attentive and helpful as well as quick to serve. So the service was good so far, which now leads to the food. — The Brisket There was a tiny pink ring around the meat showing it had spent some time in the smoker. Unfortunately, after the smoker it jumped into a steam tray, which robbed this could be delicious slice of BBQ of any flavor it developed in the smoker. In turn it became overcooked and under seasoned. — The Pulled Pork I’m sure this meat spent some time in the smoker, but nothing about how it tasted have any indication of it. The meat was very bland by itself and greatly needed some assistance from some BBQ sauce to give it any kind of flavor. — The Spicy Cheddar Sausage It was spicy, it had cheddar and it was sausage. What it wasn’t was warm in any way, nor was the cheese melted. The spicy seemed to come from it being heavily peppered and I think some jalapeños. — The Baked Beans The beans were a saving grace. The beans themselves were a good texture but the sauce was slightly sweet. — The Mac & Cheese The cheese was gooey and warm which nicely complimented the macaroni that was slightly al dente. However it was slightly under seasoned just needing a little salt. Overall, the meal was OK. Not terrible, but nothing to repeat.

My wife and I ordered food from here last night and we were far from pleased with the selection of slop the served up. Problem 1: My wife ordered a stuffed potato which was completely green and frozen-cold in the middle, also all the sides she requested with the potato were never given to us. Pictures of the nasty potato can been seen below. Problem 2: I ordered two sandwiches, one just pulled pork and the other a spicy cheddar sausage with shredded cheddar cheese on the sandwich; when i got home the spicy cheddar had no shredded cheese like i requested and all of the meat was over cooked and dry. For paying 38 $ for all of our food and being this dissatisfied I don’t think we’ll be visiting this restaurant again. I highly suggest you try Zacharys BBQ which is right down the street and has never let me down.

I got excited for a BBQ place in the area(I didn’t hear of Zachary’s yet) and we decided to get some for dinner Friday night. There wasn’t much of a line. A few people at each«station». It took awhile for them to get to us to cut our meat. I guess it’s good that the meat is cut to order, but that was about it. We got the picnic basket with brisket, potatoes and caesar salad. The brisket was dry and they didn’t give us sauce. The potatoes were normal and the caesar salad was a joke. The worst part was the service. The person making the sides looked swamped and the 2 managers were just standing there staring off to space and yelling at her. The person at the register(right next to the counter with the sides) didn’t even try to help. Overall, it probably took 30 mins to get our already pre-cooked meal. Boston Market has a very similar service set-up yet they get you in and out so fast. I was going to go back and try a different meat, but since I read the reviews here and found out about Zachary’s, I’ll be heading over there instead.
