My husband and I dined here for dinner. They take reservations but none were required for the evening we visited. The food was good but not exceptional. All entrees come with salad, vegetable, and choice of potato or rice, so quite a bit of food! Reasonably priced for the island. Again, the food was good, but not great. The service was friendly and accommodating.

Really great food! We had the bouillabaisse, grilled lobster and prime rib. I think the best was the bouillabaisse. All the sides were delicious as well — especially the rice. Rhonda, our waiter, was really patient with us!

I service an account that’s close by the Rigger and I’m glad for that. Always an enjoyable experience. AWESOME lobster roll that comes with a large bowl of very good chowder. Fried items are tasty and never greasy. Very cute atmosphere if a bit dark due to the dark woods in the décor. Nice service staff – I’ve never had an issue with any service there. That’s why I always go back. Free parking and a take-out window as well keeps you moving.

I’ve yet to eat there but I get take away every year. The food is good, the out door take away window is convenient and the prices are reasonable. The fish and chips, the fish isn’t breaded, that was odd but it was still good.

We really loved this restaurant! The food is great as is the service. The décor is super homey and the staff is very warm and friendly. We had: Swordfish — totally delicious Grilled Lobster extra stuffed — very good! Grilling a lobster in its shell gives it a delicious smokey flavor and it wasn’t dry at all Hamburger — my daughter loved it Crab cakes with corn on the cob — my other daughter loved it Mudslide Cake with ice cream and fudge — very good All the entrees came with salad and rice or baked potato. This is a super kid friendly restaurant.

Delightful evening with my family. Baked stuffed and boiled lobsters received great reviews from my sons. Really strong mussel app big enough for entrée. Great chowder and clams casino. We have been several times over the years and will be back.

Have eaten inside and from the window for several years now. Reliably excellent. The lobster roll and clam chowder combo is a favorite, but everything is good. Service is also very good. The inside is comfortable and cozy and bigger than it appears on the outside. Will keep coming back!

This is just about the To-Go menu, not the restaurant. It’s really a mixed bag, there are some very good, well-priced items on the menu and some that, well, kind of stink. The good, the cheeseburger is a decent size and a very reasonable(for MV) price. The fish tacos are also very good and reasonably priced. The lobster roll is competitively priced and«ok.» It’s not the best on the Vineyard, but not horrid by any stretch. However, the salads with toppings are expensive and the two times we’ve tried them came with soggy lettuce a few tomato slices(like used on a burger) and a couple of croutons. If you get the salad with shrimp it’s $ 18 and that gets you four small shrimp. Not very good. So, stick to the basics and you can get a decent meal here… and eat it at their picnic tables.

Best lobster rolls! I’ve had both the hot and cold versions– both are excellent and you can’t go wrong with either option. The clam showder was OK, not bad but not amazing.

I have been coming here for lobster rolls and chowder — to go for 3 years. THEBESTLOBSTERROLLSEVER. Only a tiny bit of mayo, a buttered roll, perfect never fishy fresh lump meat. TODIE. Chowder is good but not neccessary but I think it’s a good deal for 19 bucks — fills you up and is DEVINE! Fast service too and easy parking.

(3.5 stars). Dorothy W says it well– this place is classically New England circa 1970(think: a better version of Ye Old Oyster House in Boston), from its somewhat bland décor to its extensive seafood menu where everything can be cooked either in butter or cream(I do think there are a few«cajun spice» options if you’re feeling adventurous). The meal starts with a warm loaf of bread served on a cutting board, and a plate of simple salad(very large greens, shredded carrots, and a few croutons). Everything we sampled was tasty– the scallops(cooked in butter) were delicious, the salmon(served with a creamy sauce), the very creamy clam chowder, and so on. And all the dishes were served with the veggie of the day — yesterday: corn on the cob. Nothing was surprising, inventive, or interesting — this is solid, very New England sea food fare, at Martha’s VIneyard prices.

For a beach-side, real-deal, no frills type of joint– though serves FLAWLESS lobster; this is as good as it gets. On our way to the beach for kite surfing and clam-digging, my friends and I stopped for booze, cigars, and of course food… namely– lobster rolls and chowder at The Square Rigger. One of the guys in our party knew this place and knew it well, insisting best lobster roll and chowder on the island. Holy hell was he ever correct. Lobster roll was just under $ 15– and not huge but one shouldn’t expect it to be; lobster meat was fresh and delectable, tender in that fresh, stringy way, juicy and sweet. Lord have mercy. With just a bit of mayo and black pepper within a simple white-bread hotdog bun(of which i barely ate any), the lobster roll was perfect and I could have eaten another. OH! and the roll came with a half-pint cup of Rigger’s chowder, which also left nothing to be desired. Beautiful day– cooling breeze, hot island sun, sand in one’s hair and shoes before even arriving at the beach, …delicious lobster and chowder… What could be better?

Geez. I must have driven by this place for years and only recently stopped in this December for dinner. Well I missed out on many evenings of great dinners at this place. Since it was my first visit I kept in simple ordering their sirloin steak which was flavorful and cooked perfect. I was taken back by the size of the baked potato. It was very small but was also good. The dinner came with a side salad and a loaf of warm bread. My server was very friendly. We laughed and had a great conversation during my visit and I was happy to leave her a generous tip. All and all a fine dinner at the Square Rigger. I will return very soon.

If I have only one dinner on MV, this is where I go — the best lobster presentation on the island(grilled with extra lobster meat) in an unpretentious atmosphere. They also offer salmon, prime rib, and other grilling specialties. The Square Rigger is one of the oldest restaurants on MV tracing its history back to the early 1800s. In the winter of 1966, I had a dinner here when it was only one of three restaurants, as I recall, that was open in the winter months. About 30 years later it was purchased by Doreen and Tony Rezendes who own and operate the restaurant today. Located at Edgartown’s «Triangle», the Square Rigger has parking for patrons which, in Edgartown in the summer, is worth something! For more, read Dorothy W’s excellent review here on Unilocal
