yesterday we(a party of three) had the Gamjatang, a pork and potato hotpot stew, and a seafood pancake. the stew was one of the best i’ve had at a korean restaurant, ever! from NOVA to LA to ktown. everything tasted really home cooked(i.e. no msg, not super salty, rich hearty broth vs. runny broth flavored with sauces/bouillons, fresh veggies, falling off the bone stewed pork, etc.) initially we tried to get another item on the menu but the waitress told us to get the gamjatang. i’m just speculating but they probably make a big batch for the day, and encourage everyone who comes to get it bc another big party was also happily working their way through the same stew. our waitress kept coming over, making sure we were picking all of the meat off the bones, scooping soup into our bowls, playfully chiding one member of our party for not eating enthusiastically enough. it was super sweet, and really made us feel like we were eating at a korean auntie’s house. admittedly, it’s not the most sexy or exciting place to see and be seen(i’ve only ever seen big groups of korean aunties and uncles there), but if you want a really amazing meal, definitely stop in! MMM. my housemate and i are eating the leftovers now. sooo good!!!

it’s been awhile since someone reviewed this place, which is why i’m feeling inclined to do so. we actually passed by this place because it’s located practically in the middle of a residential area. when you walk in, yes it does feel like someone’s house. the prices are typical but the taste is pretty authentic. a lot of items on their menu but if you dont know korean, they do have descriptions on there which is helpful i’m not sure how this place lasted for so long since we went there for dinner and we were the only ones there. in fact, i’m pretty sure when the group of us walked in, we surprised them. maybe they get their business from lunch? anyway if you’re in and around the area(we’re not, we’re from NY) then it’s worth it to check it out.

Had an urge for Korean and stopped here. Excellent bulgogi and very good galbi. The kimchee was also one of the best. Very small place… more like someone’s house. The beginning appetizing dishes were a bit of a disappointment– and those are my favorites!

Sleepy is definitely a good way to describe this place if you can find it. No frills. Good food. 9 tables with very little to no décor for any reason whatsoever with a huge mirror staring at you. No music. Definitely dated and kind of dingy. Not a 1st date destination. I luv me self some spicy and baby, be prepared for some zing. The squid oh the squid. With mixed vegetables in a spicy sauce was out of this world especially at $ 9 with an average size portion. They leave the vegetables kind of crispy which I thought was absolutely brilliant and fun to eat obviously fresh. I noticed many traditional Korean dishes upon the menu all priced well. No accompanied soup? No tea available at all? WTF? No English so be prepared to point clearly. After one visit I’m struggling with a 4 rating for food sakes alone, but with everything else considered I will have to give them a strong 3 at this time reserving my right until the next visit.

I went there twice, first time with my coworkers for lunch and second time with my husband on a Friday dinner hour, both time we were the only customers there, this place is hidden inside the neighborhood, you won’t notice it when you drive by, the sign is small, parking lot can only fit about 5 cars. The restaurant is old, The owner is the waitress and she doesn’t speak English. First time we were there the chef was out, so she cooked for us. Have to say the service is really slow, when we were there for dinner, she was eating dinner too, so didn’t serve us much besides bringing in the food. Didn’t even refill my water. One thing is impressed about this place is the food. it is good but not great. There are too many other restaurants to choose from in Edison.

I am going to try and write a fair review of this place because I have mixed feelings about it. First off, I will say that the food we ate was very good, and if this place were closer to my home I would totally do take out. Now on to the food; they start you with various small dishes of items some I recognized like the kimchi, also a cooked peanut in a delicious sauce, a cooked spinach, a cucumber that has been marinated and what I thinks was either a spicy swiss chard or boo choy. The one dish I did not recognize was a gelatinous type of food that really had no flavor. All of these items were very good, except the jelly like item? We ordered bimimbap, bulgogi, a rice noodle dish and shrimp fried rice. Everything was really tasty and they give you a plentiful amount. If you want a drink the choices are very limited as another reviewer mentioned regular Coke, regular Sprite and water. Now here is why I have mixed feelings, the restaurant is a little hard to find, the Unilocal directions are not accurate. The place itself is not horrible inside but it could be better. We went early evening 5ish on a Sunday and had the place to ourselves which I find a little off putting, but that’s just me. There was one woman working in the front of the house, she was nice enough, but there was a bit of a communication barrier. I also noticed her brushing her hair in the dining room? Odd, but not the oddest thing I have ever seen at a restaurant. So to sum it up good food odd atmosphere, do take out if you can.

I loved it here! It is pretty ‘hole in the wall’ and the Unilocal map doesn’t show the location accurately… we had to circle back after we had passed the place. They have regular coca cola only The food was great, I honestly ordered two random things. the first thing i pointed to on the menu, asking what it was, the owner/waitress just shook her head no and made a face… meaning it probably wasn’t good! We had a kimchi/tofu thing and a bimbibap(pork). Some koreans were eating the black fish that they also make a soup out of(the bones) for you while you are waiting. They have some Korean rice wines but its also BYOB… byo soda if i were you!

A great find! The dishes were quite authentic and ingredients were fresh. A bit skeptical walking into an empty restaurant on a Saturday night, but we were blown away by the seafood stews in a Hot stone bowl. The owner speaks limited English, but pointing and butchering the names off the menu got our order across fine. Will definitely come back for more.

very pleasantly surprised! gamja tang is one of my favorite korean dishes ever since i had it in korea. this is one of the BEST gamja tangs i’ve ever had! the broth combined with heaps of wild sesame seeds was so delicious! it was a very big portion — they do not skimp on ingredients ;D if i’m craving gamja tang, i hope i can get it from here! and oh the banchan was also all very good

We went here for dinner. We ordered the bulgogi kimbab which my daughter loves and is now a fan of it. Everytime we go to a Korean place, she would order it. We also ordered spicy noodle dish which was great. The third dish ordered was the seafood bibimbap. We were given the bulgogi bibimbap instead. I tried returning it but the waitress/hostess was talking to us in Korean, which we didn’t understand. We kept telling her that we ordered the seafood bibimbap. She grumbled and finally took it and gave us the correct order. We worried about the chef spitting into our food after that but it was the principle. We didn’t want the bulgogi bibimbap. We specifically pointed to the item on the menu and was wondering why she gave us the wrong one. Probably because she thought we didn’t know better and ordered what she thought was right for us. Hate it when we get treated like that. Seafood bibimbap came out great. Place is great but will hesitate to go back after that order fiasco. :)

Real nice surprise. Drove by when looking for dinner. Looked interesting but was not very crowded. Was served before entrees came complimentary side dishes(called Banchan). These included yoengeun jorim(lotus), sigeumchi namul(lightly parboiled seasoned spinach), mu-namul(shredded white radish), myulchi bokum(a Korean anchovy), kimchi and a type of hot peppers in hot pepper sauce. All of these were very good, but particularly the lotus, the anchovies and the pepper dish. The entrees we ordered included a seafood cooked rice stone pot and a squid and vegetable stir-fry. Both of these were delicious(particularly the squid dish and the burnt rice at the bottom of the stone pot). The service was also very friendly.

The owner here is really sweet. If she recognizes you, she will give you ‘service’ extras. Also, she is quite friendly to her customers and likes to get to know them. They also have a karaōke machine which may come in handy for groups. Most of the things here are pretty good especially the jungols and bibimbaps. But their seafood broths taste a bit… aritificial. Just stay away from those. They give you so many banchans as many korean places do but they are always well balanced and great tasting here. Their kimchi is pretty good here. It’s too bad not enough people come here because of the location. It is a bid hidden but actually in the middle of Edison Noodle House and Kumhojung. Be a bit more patient and stop by some time!

This is where I go after work if I haven’t eaten all day. The portions are sort of huge. You’re not going to get the whole barbecue-at-your-table dog and pony show like other places in the area. It’s a sleepy little joint, somewhat hidden because it’s not quite on the main drag. Not much English around, either, which is a good sign. You do get some pretty good food. The vegetables are fresh, which I love. The food is a bit more adventurous than I’m used to, so it pushes my boundaries. They serve«tea» that I swear tastes like mashed up multigrain Cheerios in cold water. Anyway, it’s worth a go!
