We went to Chung Sol Bat on Wednesday during lunch and there were more people there than I expected. The menu wasn’t that extensive but had the usual traditional Korean dishes. I enjoyed their banchan dishes and especially loved the brown sugar butternut squash to cool down all the spiciness of Korean food. The pork bulgolgi bowl was spicy at the right level and the rice became crispy when I left it in the stoneware bowl. Overall, it was a decent experience but not the best I’ve had. I will be trying other Korean restaurants in the area before I come back here.

Nice selection of little plates but nothing very special. I ordered the soondobo jigae and it was very dissatisfactory. Very bland and lacking in spiciness. The quality and amount of seafood was definitely excellent but the flavor of the broth and soup was watery. Tip: order the special grain rice instead of white rice, its purple and you can only find this kind of blend at korean restaurants and i love it! I might come backand give this place another shot because my step dads dol sol spicy pork was really good. Im suspecting that their meats are better. The pajun seafood pancake was also bad and soggy and lacking in flavor.

I’ve been back several times & everything has been delicious with great service. I always go with a small group & we share things & enjoy everything. We love the pajun & japjae! We always go at lunch usually on Saturday, and generally we each get a box since we like the variety. My favorite is the spicy pork. Usually when we go we are the only non Koreans! No one has had the nerve to try the black goat soup… we stay in the realm of more known dishes. Only complaint is that parking can be very tight.

My favorite Korean spot! Beats out K-Town and the rest of Edison(in my opinion)! They have plentiful seating, though the parking lot can get quite full. You can have BBQ, hot stone pots, lunch specials 7 days a week, and wonderful service. My family and I love to come during lunch or on the weekends for dinner. Their food is top notch and great quality, not to mention at a really great price. Lunches are never really over $ 10 and we have ordered set dinner A for $ 64.99 where we get kalbi, seafood pancake, spicy stir-fry squid, soon du bu, and pork belly. It’s perfect for four hungry adults and there’s always more you can order. I always look forward to coming back and it really feels like you’re at home with the folks here. Keep it up and def come here to get some real Korean food :]

I accidentally found this place looking for Penang(down the street) and decided to bookmark this place for the future. I ended up coming here not too long ago with a friend. My friend and I had ttokbokki and seafood stew to share. The food was excellently made but, I was a bit on the sweeter side. I’ve been used to spicy Korean food so this place did not appeal to me as much. On the bright side, the service is amazing! Also it’s BYOB! Be sure to come in with a bottle!

The Kalbi is the best, or say, sth worth the money, but pork belly is just soso. The fried spicy pork is good, but I believe I could get the same flavor if I buy the matinated pork from H mart. The service is not good. Really impatient when you take time to learn about the dish before you order, you could see that on their face. No refill for the sides or water unless youstop them and tell them to. Also, really really quick to clean the the empty side dishes before I say refill or not. The waitress just assumes that we are about to finish, so definitely no refill and start to clear the table. Just get sick of talking to them or arguing about it. Sorry, food is okay, but really really do not appreciate the service.

My first experience with authentic Korean BBQ and I was blown away… the array of the spread, the service, and how just plain delicious! Clearly I am no expert on Korean cuisine but I know what tastes good! Came here on a whim based on Unilocal reviews, thanks reviewers, you were on point. I would come back in a heartbeat. we had both the beef and chicken, both were tender and tasty. They also served lettuce and daikon for wrapping the chicken and beef. There were about 8 sides including 2 kimchis, a hot egg dish, a chicken dish, seaweed, fish cakes, rice, and soy paste. All worth every penny!

Wasn’t a huge fan. Granted, the service was great and friendly. I just didn’t think I got that«wow» factor for the price I paid. I actually have this problem with most Korean bbq joints in Manhattan as well(and what caused me to learn most of my Korean friends recommend places in queens anyway). Our group got some rice bowls, some soups, and some bbq. The rice bowls were good but didn’t give that blast of flavor that bulgogi rice bowls tend to give. The bbq was ok to good; acceptable taste but nothing that made me remember it. Basically, the overall impression I got from this place was«meh». Not good, not bad, just whatever.

Didn’t go to this place for a while since there were better Korean restaurants. Noticed that they improved all side dishes even though very spicy. Service wad good. Food is above average.

Shame on my not reviewing this awesome place years ago. I’ve eaten here ~10x over 6 years & everytime, it’s just as tasty, fantastic, and consistent as ever. This last time last Saturday at 1p. We were instantly seated in a nearly full dining room. My wife had the gob dol bulgogi(fired pot rice bowl with marinated beef) which was perfectly sizzled & cooked. My ttukbaegi bulgogi(spicy broth with marinated beef) was so huge on portions with tons of beef which was all marinated so wonderfully & cooked to soft perfection. The only downer was the broth was very oily, but therein lays the taste. The service isn’t rude as others wrote, but I find them to be normal & fine so I’m unsure what others see. There’re power outlets for each table on the rightmost wall which is helpful. Banchan for us were 6: kimchi, bean curd triangles in seasame oil, sprouts in vinegar, seaweed in vinegar, sofu tofu in super spicy sauce, broccoli in vinegar; and add 2 complimentary sides of miso soup. Another great time!

Seated for 4 people we ordered 2 pork bbq and a tofu soup to share since one person is vegetarian and she wasn’t that hungry. The waitress gave us 1 set of side dishes as we were expecting 2 sets since we have 4 people. I asked if we could get extra the waitress snapped at me and said«ask when you’re finished». Okay geez we’re obviously going to finish it but since the tables are long and we have bbq right in the middle we’re not trying to criss cross over the center just to get our banchan dishes. It took 15 minutes for the raw meat to come out for grilling. I thought it was abnormally long as it usually comes out pretty fast. I immediately noticed the meat were frozen with ice which the waitress took some time breaking apart. The meat had patches of cooked parts it was obvious they were defrosting this in the microwave before they brought it out hence it took some time to making its way to us. I have never been to a Korean BBQ that served frozen marinated meat out like this before. So okay what can you do, meat is meat so we didn’t think much of it until the waitress was grilling our meat and left the cooked pieces on the side of the grill TOUCHING the newly raw slabs. I asked the waitress to please not leave it touching the raw and she just rolled her eyes and acted like the birds were chirping outside. At this point I am not enjoying my meal. Everything just adds on — Not once did they come refill our tea and the shredded scallion for the bbq ISNOT even scallion. It is literally 2% of scallion with all shredded cabbage. When did this restaurant get so cheap? Sorry but I am definitely not coming back to this place. Food not fresh, bad service, and cheap people.

I came here for dinner last night and ordered the grilled Mackerel which came with tofu/seafood soup and all the side dishes. The food was really tasty and delicious. The service was great! You have the option to cook the meat yourself or they can cook it for you in their kitchen. I will be back here again tonight!

Upon seeing a delicious hot pot stew picture on Instagram, I got tempted to check out this spot! With these korean BBQ/hot pot places, you must come with a group of at least 4 or more people to make it worthwhile because Korean cuisines, just like most other asian cuisines, need to be shared, so you can order more dishes! But with two people, it’s not that easy to order that many dishes unless you have a humongous appetite or you plan to take some home. Coming here for the first time, we ordered the combo for 2 – 3 people, and this combo comes with 5 items! We got the stir fried squids, bbq beef, tofu soup, japchae noodles, and I forgot the fifth one… Along with this generous combo, we also ordered a seafood bibimbap and stir fried pork! All were every delicious, fresh, flavorful and tasty! We definitely enjoyed the fact that they used charcoal for the bbq, because it makes the meat more tasty than gasoline. However, the quality of the bbq meat is average! Not bad but could be better. The seafood bibimbap was DELISH! You must get! The service is great! Very friendly and attentive! Btw, this place is byob! Bring your own alcohol!

My go to Korean BBQ spot in central jersey. Me and my family order the set menu to feed the 5 of us and we leave full and satisfied — banchan appetizers, 2 orders of BBQ short rib beef(galbi), and from the options to choose for the set: we get the seafood pancake, spicy pork, soondubu, and BBQ beef bulgogi. Delicious ! They come and cook the BBQ at your table if you have at least 2 orders of BBQ and they also give those complimentary sweet yogurt drinks at the end for dessert. The turn is right before the boston market on route 1 northbound and the place is located in a small strip on old post road. Will keep coming back.

A bunch of us drove up from Princeton — that’s a 38-minute drive. We had high hopes of getting a good dinner. On the plus side: We liked the banchan a lot — there was a good variety, and the tofu and kimchi were excellent. It’s BYOB! Analogous places in normal states(like California) have a few mediocre wines and a couple of uninteresting beers. Here we were able to engage in a detailed and eminently practical discussion of international bitterness units. The Korean barbecue was quite tasty.(How could it fail to be?) We ordered prime rib and marinated squid. The beef was a complete winner, though the squid kept whispering to us «Order something different next time.» Most of the clientele seem to be Korean. On the negative side: The rice tasted totally non-Korean. In fact, it tasted like Uncle Ben’s! This was a really disharmonious element to our experience. The Korean BBQ was cooked for us by our server, who seemed intent on getting the process over with as soon as possible. As a result, we weren’t able to pace our dinners very well. In retrospect, we should have shooed her away and insisted on cooking the meat ourselves. With all those coals around, I started worrying about carbon monoxide poisoning. So we drove 80 minutes round-trip for a dinner that wasn’t exactly perfect. Would I be willing to repeat the experience? Absolutely!

Chung Sol Bat is my favorite go to restaurant in Edison for Korean food. Items that I love here are the Gob-Dol with spicy pork or Kalbi(beef), Bibimbap with its crusted rice, fresh sauteed vegetables and very tender meat and the seafood pancake(it’s huge!). Entrées are served with Banchan(side dishes) and I really like the cucumber in hot sauce. The interior of the restaurant is decent; service is quick and waiters somewhat friendly. Most items on the menu are reasonably priced and the lunch menu is also available on the weekend. Dont miss out on this place if you’re planning to out in Edison!

Back for the lunch special and still loved it! We came around 1 – 2 on a Monday, so it wasn’t packed but still pretty busy. Nonetheless, we were seated immediately and given tea. Our orders were taken quickly too. The banchan took a little while, coming after we finished ordering, but it was as good as last time. The banchan dishes were yummy and consisted of a great variety: kimchi as a staple, several veggies, fish cakes. Every time the banchan always seems to be slightly different. Our food took about 15min – not bad. We ordered the spicy squid gob dol(rice, veggies, spicy squid and sauce in a crackling hot stone bowl) and pork cup dol(sauce over pork with rice on the side). The portions were quite large. It took me a while to finish my gob dol, and I was so full I didn’t eat dinner that day. They were surprisingly generous with the meat and veggies, especially considering that these are cheap lunch specials. The lunch special is such a great deal and so so delicious/satisfying that going anywhere else in the area for lunch almost seems not worth it anymore. I’ll definitely be back and you should give it a try as well. Like many others I also recommend feh spicy squid gob dol that I had, but I’m sure anything on the menu will be great.

Went for lunch on a Monday and found the lunch specials to be super cheap. The restaurant is very homey. Big windows with lots of natural light show off the clean wood and white furnishings. The banchan came out quickly, and our drinks were kept filled. I got the gob-dol with kalbi, which was served in a hot stone bowl with a slightly sweet sauce. It was OK, but still a very good deal for Korean food. Also tried a bit of my brother’s soodubu, and it was probably the best bowl I’ve had. I’d go back for lunch if I were in the area.

Came here to celebrate my mom’s(who is visiting from Vegas!) birthday. Saw on Unilocal that it was highly recommended by many Koreans and who could be better judges of kbbq? Service: *** I was impressed by the service. Super friendly and attentive. Best of all, they grill the meat for you! Ambiance: ** Seems like a pretty basic kbbq place. Nothing special. The grills are easy to grill meats on and they change the grill rack often. Food(for price): * I understand this is no all you can eat so when we ordered a plate of Kalbi and pork ribs during the lunch special, we were expecting it to be decent enough for 3 people. For $ 25.99 we got two, yes TWO small sized short rib bones w/a small strip of marinated short rib meat attached! Now, having been accustomed to some great kbbq places out in Koreatown, LA at least, we expected a plate of more than two strips of meat! And to think, this was the lunch price! We had to order another plate(or rather, small soup bowl) and so the bill for 3 became $ 100. All we got were 4 small short ribs, 2 small pork tenderloin strips and a bunch of measly ban chan. Taste was typically okay, nothing spectacular. I’ve looked up a simple kbbq recipe and vowed that I would make this myself when hankering for some Kalbi until I can visit LA for some affordable and GREAT tasting bbq! Even Trader Joe’s frozen marinated Galbi tasted much better and I could’ve gotten ten packages for the price we paid here :-(

I’m still a fan of their food– great flavor and authentic Korean dining experience. I have been visiting here a lot in the past three years and I was not let down even once by their food. But my dining experience yesterday was awful. I went there for lunch with my labmates to celebrate our successful proposal defenses. Our waitress came over to take our order. Since we would like to just order some dishes and share and we were a little bit confused when we ordered, so after we told her that we actually wanted No.2 instead of No. 3, she literally said things like: «Oh my God, you guys are killing me. I can’t understand a word you say. You guys are wasting my time here. I’ve got other tables to serve. Now, only one person talk to me. Jesus Christ, you people!» Yes, I am not exaggerating anything. If it wasn’t because of our postdoc who happens to be the nicest person in the whole universe, I would have just left and also let her boss know how terrible her attitude was. All the food we got was as tasty as always, but the whole ordering thing just made me mad!
