We took in some ducks that my son and I shot last season and they created a magnificent four-course dinner. egg rolls and won ton, sweet and sour, salt and pepper, w/green beans. They added pork fried rice and we, of course, added walnut shrimp. It was every bit as good, or better, than what two prominent Sacramento restaurants did with our duck and/or pheasant in the past. Thanks!

So happy to find my old Wakano Ura chef. James continues to make the traditional dishes I grew up on. Peanut Duck, Hom Yuk, chow mein and of course THEBESTBBQPORKFRIEDRICEEVERMADE! Go there for a late breakfast after a party night and get the fried rice — ask for two fried eggs on it and blissful recovery begins.

I try to select local places to patronize and here’s a great example. This place has been here a while and while the interior doesn’t provide much in flash it makes up for it in flavor. I normally get a combination plate and whether it be sweet and sour pork or sesame chicken, you can’t go wrong.

My last visit here the cooks came out of the kitchen into the dining room to relax and watch everyone eat. I’m not a big fan of this, show a little class and stay in the kitchen. Minus one star.

My wife & I came here yesterday at the invitation of some friends. When I read the reviews here, I was reluctant to come & almost suggested for us to go elsewhere. When we arrived at dinner time there was only one other table occupied, which again caused me concern. However, I am very glad we stayed. Our waitress was very pleasant & polite. I ordered the two item Japanese combo with teriyaki chicken & tempura, which included both vegetable & shrimp with fried rice. Everything was excellent! Large portion for a very reasonable price. My wife had the walnut shrimp, also delicious! Our friends were also very satisfied with their meal. I would recommend this place for their excellent service, great food, large portions & reasonable prices.

We had lunch here over the weekend and it’s pretty good. The better-half ordered the«Japanese Special»(yes, this is a Chinese restaurant) and she says it was really good and tasty. I had the Mongolian beef and it was tasty and tender, so that’s good enough for me. We’ll definitely come back when we’re in the neighborhood.

Hands down best hot and sour soup. Chicken chow mein i ordered was amazing too and the portions are very generous and fairly priced. Will definitely be back!

When I go out to eat, I always look for a quiet place. This unassuming restaurant isn’t flashy or loud. Our server was polite and the service was quick. We enjoyed the food and the fact that there isn’t music blaring in the background. If you want a relaxed place to eat with good food, eat here. The lunch special is a great deal — very good and enough to bring half home for dinner. I’ve been back twice even before I had a chance to post this review!

The menu here is very similar to that of the old Wakano Ura restaurant on 10th Street in Sacramento. The Japanese dinner for two is exactly the same, although price is now $ 20. The portions are quite generous and will feed 3, maybe 4 people of modest appetites. The mostly fried food selection is a little greasy, overall. The meal starts with a bland soup of a type often seen at all-you-can-eat Chinese buffets or Mongolian barbecue restaurants. Various vegetables are include in a salty broth that’s been thickened with cornstarch. Easily something to skip. The meal also included shrimp and vegetable tempura, chicken teriyaki, tonkatsu, sesame chicken, gyoza, a fried wonton appetizer, and a large bowl of hot steamed rice. The tonkatsu and the sesame chicken were pretty good. So was the tempura, albeit the batter was not as light and delicate as I generally prefer. It’s like having a Japanese fast-food fried dinner, for the most part. Filling, but be sure to drink a lot of hot tea to help cut the grease.

I work very nearby and LOVE the food here. The beef is always my favorite no matter which style I choose, and I love the beef sticks for appetizers. The Hot tea is very nice in the winter and I always have more food than I can finish myself.

Don’t waste your time or money. Go to Panda Express. The place is dated and kinda gross looking. I was worried I was going to get food poisoning. The food was super bland. On the plus side the portions are large, but you won’t want to take any of it home. I wished we never went. My kids usually like Chinese and they didn’t eat. I pretty much threw $ 60 in the trash. Never coming back.

Can be missed from the main road of Elk Grove Boulevard if you don’t know where to go. My mom said just go to the Big Lots and you’ll be fine. This place is my parents go to place in Elk Grove for Chinese food, and I would agree. They do peanut duck right, as it is full of flavor, crispy, and meaty all at once. We also order the steamed pork with(stinky) salt fish which not a lot of places have, and the noodle soup with chicken which the server says is popular with a lot of Japanese customers. I can see why, it has large pieces of bone in chicken, thick udon noodles and veggies with a not too salty broth. Quiet place but they do get busy, and service is still good no matter what. Give it a go, especially if you like peanut duck.

Terrible, terrible terrible experience! Horrible customer service, the WORST I’VEEVERBEENTREATED! Kiddos & I had it all planned out… sesame chicken late-lunch with some rice and chow mein, then head on down to Tiger’s Yogurt before meeting up with grandma… NOPE! Instead, we got held up talking to freakin’ EGPD! This idiot lady called the police bc I wanted to order something else since the sesame chicken was more like chicken katsu with seeds thrown on top & tasted like garbage(see pic), and lil man’s salt & pepper pork was soaked in grease and lacked both salt and pepper. The soup was a disgusting, tasteless goo. The chow mein was good. She insisted that«everyone likes this» and that I still pay for the food whether I ordered something else or not. I obviously refused and decided that I wasn’t ordering ANYTHING at all. Goodbye! She runs outside to get my license plate# while threatening to call the police, omg! I should have gotten the picture that this was a bad idea when I walked in… it was a ghost town except for 3 old employees lounging around lazily reading newspapers and picking their teeth. And the huge pile of empty cardboard boxes in the last booth & along the hall to the restrooms just shows laziness/filth. Yeah, why did I ignore all that? Because I ASS-umed this restaurant was under the same ownership as my previous(nearly 14 year) habit. I had to wait around for another 20 minutes to explain to the police officer that we DIDNOT«dine & dash» and had pics to prove it… she’s such an idiot! I’m spreading the word, as she kept saying, «new owna, new owna»(new owner), yes clearly.

Today is the sixth time we have eaten here recently. I’m trying the Hunan beef with chow mein. The combination of jalapeños and chopped ginger gives it a wonderful spicy flavor. Most dishes you can ask them to make less spicy or not spicy at all. They will happily do that. With the Hunan beef I’m not sure that would work. It is the spice that makes it so tasty! The chow mein is my favorite side, while the fried rice is very good, there is something nostalgic about the way they make their chow mein with vegetable and BBQ pork. Very good! There is something so soothing about the hot tea they serve, delicious, especially on a cold day! The service as always is very good. Kelly seems to just know when you need a refill or a box for the huge portions you are not able to finish. Great as always!

We ordered Mongolian beef, kung pao chicken, and orange chicken and we were all satisfied! The fried rice and and chow mein were both delicious as well. Definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a new Chinese spot

This is definition of a hidden gem. In the corner of a shopping complex is Hunan garden! The food is excellent! They will even make you custom orders to your preference! They offer a nice hybrid of Chinese and Japanese food! They provide good service and also do takeout. For those who come I suggest the $ 20 meal deal. Overall for anyone wanting some true Chinese food go to Hunan.

It’s hard to fathom that it’s been almost 2 years since my boyfriend and I had last dined here when it doesn’t seem like it was that long ago! I remember the food being pretty good as we enjoyed the good service along with each other’s company. I also remember how we were practically the only patrons eating and how very quiet the atmosphere was… It’s been several months now that we have been cutting back on dining out and especially avoiding Chinese food due to my boyfriend’s congestive heart failure and having to follow a low sodium diet. Enduring such a dry spell causes cravings and Chinese food was topping that list. Joe K and I discussed our options and decided it wouldn’t hurt to go to a restaurant and at least inquire if Chinese food could be made special without using or adding salt and/or soy sauce. Since we happened to be in the area of Hunan Garden, we stopped in with our hopeful request. The woman who greeted us was the same friendly lady I remember from last time. She was very receptive and had no problem having the cook whip up some stir fry veggies and shrimp over rice without any salt added. My BF made a good attempt at trying to enjoy his food as one can without the added benefits of what I have come to realize is a pretty important flavor enhancer. While I on the other hand, lost control and made a good attempt to pig out by ordering a combination plate that included cashew shrimp, pork fried rice, pork chow mien and an egg roll, along with egg flower soup, all for $ 8.75. The portions were so huge, that I had plenty left over for another large meal the next day. My dinner was very good, as I found myself appreciating the flavors of Chinese food again, seasonings and all! A little on the negative end was that we both found our shrimps to be somewhat mushy, but as I said, the rest of my food was very satisfying! While we were eating, I realized that we were once again the only patrons in the restaurant and it was so quiet except for the sounds of our voices. It would be nice if they had some back ground music or TV to add a little spice to ones dining experience. To me, silence is not all that golden!

I have been avoiding Chinese restaurants like the plague. I was afraid the food might contain too much sodium and cause me to bloat like the good year blimp. Some of my Unilocal friends had been telling me that it would be safe as long as I ordered the vegetable dishes and told the wait staff not to add salt, soy sauce, or any other salty sauces or gravies. After much urging(I can be a bit bull headed) I finally decided to give Hunan Garden a try. Sure enough, I was able to order mixed vegetables with shrimp that they lightly stir fried without adding any high sodium products. My dish was stacked with fresh baby bok choy, sugar peas, broccoli, baby corn, onion, carrots, celery, bamboo shoots, and medium sized shrimp. There wasn’t much seasoning added due to my low sodium request so the vegetables had to stand on their own and any flavor had to be brought out by the cooking process. The bok choy was delicious as were the sugar peas but the broccoli, and the rest of the vegetable did not have much flavor. The shrimp were plentiful but were a bit mushy and did not have much flavor either. The bowl of steamed rice I ordered on the side turned out to be a mistake. The rice was perfectly cooked and was nicely presented but when you add steamed rice to vegetables that are stir fried without much seasoning, it tends to suck the flavor out of them. I think it was a great first attempt at low sodium Chinese food. Service was excellent and the waitress was really nice and went out of her way to be helpful. I would definitely order this dish again but I would also like to see what kind of low sodium dishes other Chinese restaurants in my area might be able to come up with. I am hoping some inventive chef will come up with a dish that will knock my socks off.

We searched for delivery options and decided to order from here because they had(part of) their menu on Unilocal.Their prices were also good, especially when we tend to go a little overboard on Chinese. We really didn’t want to actually get out of our jammies on New Year’s Day! We ordered lots of different items, deciding to go with the most talked about item on the menu, the sesame chicken. It lived up to all the hype– very flavorful with just enough sesame seeds on top. The hot and sour soup was tasty – still piping hot and a perfect balance as the name suggests. If the online menu I found is right, the small soup is only $ 1. Perfect to try out! The wontons and spring rolls were served with a really good sweet and sour sauce that had a zesty orange flavor to it, which is a nice change from the thick, sweet sauce every other place serves. It was also a bonus that the spring rolls only had veggies in them, they are one of my favorite chinese apps but a lot of places put pork in them, which I don’t eat. I got lucky here! We were pretty disappointed with the house lo mein. It tasted great, that wasn’t the problem, the problem was, it had 2 shrimps in it, and maybe 3 pieces of pork. So if you are looking for noodles packed with meat that is not your best option. Maybe next time I’ll talk the man into getting a veggie lo mein for me. Okay, probably not. The lady on the phone was a little short but the delivery guy was super friendly and talkative. I think next time we will try to dine in to check the restaurant out and a few other menu items.
