I’ve been wanting to try this place since they opened last year. We had a party of 6. When I made a reservation, I was asked if we wanted to sit outside. The woman on the phone made me feel like it was very nice to have a table outside. I was like«you have heaters right?» Which is my standard go to response whenever I sit outside anytime after 4pm on the coast. So, since they did I was okay with that. So when we showed up, we were shown to our table. Um let me just say, I haven’t had a table that shabby since I worked at restaurants in the 80’s and you took your break in the back alley of the restaurant. My advice, sit inside or have flashbacks of your broke ass college days. The only reason I am giving them three stars is because our server, Ryan was really great. Without him, I would have given one star. The only order we really enjoyed was the seared salmon belly — that was very good! I wouldn’t eat here again but at least I’m grateful my days working in restaurants and bars are over.

service was just atrocious. waitress was quickly irritated and just walked away from us before we even finished ordering, merely because my sister and i were trying to decide between a small or large sake. i thought maybe she was having a hormonal moment? we didn’t get it. sushi chefs were friendly. but they missed one of our checkmarks on our order sheet and we ended up waiting forever for a roll that never came. those things happen, of course. it just happened to occur during an already frustrating experience. sushi was good.

Came here on a quiet Sunday evening. Friendly staff, nice peaceful ambiance. Great sushi. I usually get two rolls when I go for sushi. Here I got the Big Mike and was satisfied after that alone. Highly recommend.

My lady and I stopped in on a sunny Friday during lunch. We were the only people in the restaurant, but there were several takeout orders while we were there. We ordered the lemon roll and the pink roll. The pink roll’s jalapeño sauce was good, but could have had a little more heat. The lemon roll was fantastic– fresh and light and perfect. I wanted a second one. Hell, I want one now. The fish was fresh and everything was great quality. The restaurant itself was clean and pleasant to be in.

We drove from 20 minutes away because this place is that good. 2nd time there and it gets better every time. We decided to get served the chef’s choice. It was all delicious, raw, fresh, and had so many different flavors. Karen took care of us and brought everything quickly. David is a master chef. We loved it and will definitely go back again.

Stopped by on a whim for a quick lunch a few days ago. The people running the place were very nice and the sushi was good. The miso soup actually lacked flavor, but the sushi was really fresh. I might stop by again for a quick lunch.

I love this place. They have plenty of seating options and the space is open and sunny. The protein roll is what’s up. You cannot go wrong with it. It’s so good that I crave it regularly. The fish is always good. It’s not tough or veiny like other places. The chefs are always really nice. I’ve had friends order some custom rolls and the chefs seemed excited about being able to create something new! Karen, the woman at the front, is always sweet. Overall I’m a huge fan. The prices are great, the food is great. Seriously, try the protein roll. You really won’t be disappointed.

Sushi Lounge and Sushi Brothers each had a rating of 4 so we didn’t know which to try. Lounge had a 30″ wait Friday night, Bros had 1 table left. We went to Sushi Brothers and had great sushi and service. Large Asahi beer, spicy edamame, cucumber salad, Big Mike Roll, Black Widow Roll. Both rolls were fresh, generous and delicious. We couldn’t finish all we ordered; Big Mike roll was just as good at 8am the next day! The restaurant is small and it seems like a lot of locals which is a good sign for consistency in service and food quality. YES!

I love the Mexico City. This is my new favorite sushi place in Encinitas. The spicy salmon was good too.

My husband and I love sushi and have been looking for a new favorite sushi restaurant since moving to California in October. This place is by far the best sushi I have ever had in my life. Please try the specialty rolls. Good god, they’re amazing. My husband was really hungry so he ordered a calamari as an appetizer(tempura batter. Also delicious.) and then two tuna rolls, two California rolls, a spider roll, a dragon roll, a punk lady and the black widow roll. Every single thing was delicious and we had plenty left for lunch the next day. All this food and our bill was under $ 75. We definitely found our new favorite restaurant. Don’t be fooled, because it’s a small restaurant. There’s big flavor inside.

I am so satisfied and beyond my expectations. Each visit chef David surprise us with his dishes and his creativity. This time we tried the bluefin and one word to describe is OMG. Much much better than toro.

Pretty decent qualify fish. And I have to applaud them on the creative of their rolls. I don’t normally like the fancy rolls with overwhelming flavors of sauces but I must applaud them on their creativity on a few: 1. Ninja roll — never had a roll where the rice is slightly fried at the bottom to create a crunch. Delicious. 2. Big mike — albacore and tuna fusion roll w Szechuan flavors. But not overly pungent. It was perfect. Now to the sushi: 1. Aji — hands down for the freshness 2. Yellowtail — plump and fatty 3. Sweet shrimp — didn’t particularly like it. Had an after taste. Fried head was good. 4. Tako: was OK. 5. Scallop handroll– one of my fave last night. Fresh ! 6. Inari /tamago — great dessert sushi. Overall — I would be back !

If you are looking for creative chinese/Japanese fusion sushi, Sushi brothers is a great choice. Chef David has infused his chinese cuisine background and attention to detail/quality into his sushi creations. We had a great lunch sampler of his sushi variety: Protein roll, fresh fish wrapped in almost transparent thin Japan-imported soy paper, not like the standard thicker chewy ones. The citrus light sauce gave the roll a great light fresh feel. Sashimi roll was awesome with nicely pickled daikon wrappers that gave the sushi a Korean BBQ kind of feel. Spicy tuna albacore drenched with original house-made Szechuan ponzu sauce added a very authentic Chinese spicy taste to the sushi. Very original and tasty. Hurricane roll’s Cajun spiced albacore with the special balsamic vinaigrette + lemon butter sauce have this roll an Italian flair. If you enjoy spicy, make sure you ask for Chef David’s recommendations, and get ready for an explosion of flavor! Pricing is very reasonable and outdoor patio seating was refreshing with a San Diego ocean breeze. Plenty of parking, service is fast and convenient access right next to Freeway 5 Encinitas exit.

Still providing great creations and great service. Server even recognized me due to my Unilocal reviews. Nice to know these reviews matter to customer AND supplier. If you like spicy I recommend black widow If you like protein roll this one is one of the best If you want adventure, go omikase.

Very chill spot, they have wireless, I had the teriyaki chicken bowl and it was made very very very well!!! The veggies were nice, warm, soft yet crunchy. They also gave me extra yaki sauce without even asking so yay for that!!! they also have a great happy hour but i only stopped here for lunch. The yaki chicken bowl is priced really well and far better than surf bros teriyaki. Def check this place out. I don’t eat sushi so can’t really talk about that.

I liked this place and I wish I could of gave them at least four stars but, but one of the rolls I ordered needed a little work, but the rest were just fine. I ordered one of the lunch specials for I believe was $ 9 and came with a choice of cut rolls. I chose the crunch roll, which came with tempura shrimp, avocado, and krab, and the Salmon Skin Roll. In addition, I ordered a tekka maki roll or tuna cut roll for $ 4 and some change. The tekka maki was very good and the portions of tuna in the rolls were just right with respect to the ratio of rice. The tuna had a good oil content which made it rich and flavorful. I with I would of ordered two of this roll, instead of the crunch roll. The crunch roll was not what it was named. For some reason, the tempura shrimp was overly soft and not crunchy, and the roll as a whole was very bland. The roll desperately needed some texture and something with some salt content. The panko bread crumbs unfortunately did not make it crunchy. The salmon skin roll was good. The cut rolls were larger than the ones I have experienced and they came with a good amount of salmon skin and a but of salmon meat as well. Its flavor was very good, and in addition to the already crunchy salmon skin, the small bits of carrots and cucumbers added to the roll’s texture. This one was a pleasure to eat with soy sauce. In the end, if the crunch roll would of hit its mark, it would of been an easy four stars. But for now a 3.5 will suffice. I like to see more crunch in that shrimp tempura and flavor as well.

It’s not often I have a feeling that Unilocal let me down. When you look at the reviews and see the joy and love others have for a place, pushing it over that 4-Star mark, it sets the bar high. Then to show up and have those hopes of a grand meal dashed, it makes you rethink your faith in humanity. Well, maybe not that dramatic, but Sushi Brothers is a letdown. I was thinking recently how people on this website judge restaurants. Going in for a single visit, trying one dish(or two if they go with a friend), and then writing how a place was from that exceedingly limited experience. They might have the best pastrami in town, but everything else tastes like it was rubbed in the gunk under the fridge; no one will know because they rate them high. Or one off dish with a bit too much salt may keep you from going back to a truly brilliant spot because of a 1-Star experience. Sushi bars are a bit different. When you get three things on average, with bigger parties going upwards of 10+ items a visit, you get a better idea of how good or bad a place is. Unfortunately, when you come to a spot like Sushi Brothers, where the food is all over the place, you’re forced to find that rating that balances it out. And when the time to write a review comes, you either call them bad, but note the highlights, or give them a nod and firm warnings of the crappier parts of the menu. Which is where we begin, the sucky Sushi Brothers with a few nicer bits, but overall a little terrible. The short of it, they have excellent quality of fish, their technique is alright, but their roll selection and cooking are sorely lacking. The long of it… Had a family get together and Sushi Brothers was chosen as the venue. After excitedly discussing our order, the server quickly came back to state they didn’t have any oysters for Oyster Shooters, nor did they have live Uni(despite it being one their specials that day). Not a very reassuring start. When the others appetizers arrived we were treated to out-of-a-frozen-bag Egg Rolls where the heated oil had seeped inside the casings to turn the veggies and meat within into a greasy sludge and Fried Calamari, another pre breaded experience served with the same sour sauce as the egg rolls. Seeing as they both came off the happy hour menu, it was tough to get too upset about them. Next up were two things which I use to set the tone of things to come. The California Rolls were firmly packed with fresh avocado and ‘krab’ meat for good size, showing the care that they put in even these simplest of rolls. And the Salmon Nigiri, I have to say, was one of the best I have ever had. It was smooth, buttery, and lightly sweet, delicious and fantastic; it truly set the bar for the quality of fish to expect. This made our three sashimi selections a bit disappointing. The Mackerel Sashimi was poorly cut, thin in some spots and uneven throughout the rest; the taste was there, though one or two bites did have an odd chew to them. The Toro Sashimi had a nice chill, was served well, and had a nice fatty taste akin to the salmon before it; not the best I’ve ever had, yet pretty good, and the fresh wasabi across the top was an excellent touch. But the Maguro Sashimi was poor even by normal akami standards, with barely any flavor and not even a smooth, but gummy, texture. The Heart Attack was Sushi Brothers version of a jalapeño roll. Their choice to make it as a normal roll(thin with 8 slices) was not a good one. This should be a whole jalapeño stuffed, breaded, fried, and, at most, cut in half before served with a spicy aioli. Roll style made it mealy, a bit burned, and very unsatisfying considering what we could have had. The Rainbow Roll was standard, not much to complain or rave about. The fish atop was just alright, but also not too dry or badly served. The Red Dragon had no heat to it, the spicy tuna and spicy aioli drizzled atop falling flat, and barely any sweet coming through with the eel sauce, making the taste very bland for something that was supposed to have a lot going for it. The Barrio Roll was a bit better. I like trying the unconventional, and am pleasantly surprised when it turns out alright. The serrano chile brought some great heat, and the mix of salsa, cilantro, and fresh tuna gave this roll a ceviche feel and taste that really worked for me. Not something I would order every time, but definitely above average. Taking spotlight as the best roll of the night was the Big Mike. It had a good blend of flavors between the spicier serrano aioli and eel sauce and a nice mix of texture between the fresh tuna and shrimp tempura. With a slice or jalapeño for heat on the back end, it was damned good. But, it was alone on the top tier, with only the salmon near it for company. Mix in the fact that not one of our 8 person party got a refill on their drinks until AFTER we were done eating … and Sushi Brothers was a major overall disappointment.

I am a sushi connoisseur, I love it, and I have been to a ton of sushi restaurants. However we will not be going back to Sushi Brothers. Walking in the décor is nice, with a sushi bar to the front and tables to the left and right. We were greeted by a blonde, maybe Swedish waitress. Odd was my first thought. It was a Thursday and not busy besides two other tables. The waitress disappeared for a few minutes, odd, came back and took our drink order and food order since we were ready. We ordered spicy sashimi salad, 2 hand roles and another role to share. Drinks came about 15 minutes later. Lame! 10 more minutes and our hand roles came out. We thought she definitely forgot our salad, which usually comes first in restaurants? 15 more minutes had passed, at that moment we were ready to leave, finally the salad came out. The food had been okay up until that point, the salad came with ice berg lettuce and they definitely needed to work on their salad dressing. boo. Oh wait, 20 more minutes, and the waitress finally came back and asked us if we wanted anything else. Not sure what was going on there, but hopefully they find some better staff, but then again I didn’t see the owners either. Definitely not going back. There are a ton of sushi restaurants in North County way better.

Volveremos!
