Sushi is wayyyyy to over priced! I got about 4 – 5 rolls to go and spent 80+ dollars. I was expecting it to be amazing for the price I paid… WRONG! The fish tasted like it had Been sitting out and the rice was mushy. Even when you walk in the place the smell is horrible. The servers are nice but the owner is a grinch. There is a reason why all these people say they never see anyone in the restaurant. Never again! You have been warned.

Any Japanese Restaurant that uses FROZEN Fish for Sashimi will not get a return visit. Perhaps it’s the location, perhaps it’s the clientele or perhaps it’s just not enough business. If it’s the later of the three, maybe if you used fresh fish and had authentic Japanese Food business would be a lot different. $ 100 including tax & Tip for three is a lot to spend on dinner for below average Japanese Food Service was good that’s why two stars, Hyuga is my #1 place, and worth the 10minute drive from Escondido to San Marcos

The WORST sushi you will ever eat! The only reason I stayed was because our server was very sweet. Saw her getting yelled at by her boss and I am mortified! Definitely will not go back to a restaurant where they treat their employees like THAT. As far as the food goes; it’s mushy, overpriced, and tastes ROTTEN. We’re lucky we didn’t get sick! Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else!

I was quiet and there was no one in the place at the time. Service was good, food was good, prices were about right. Will go there again, since it seemed like a great place for friends to be able to sit and have a conversation while eating.

Just finishing up our meal. Food was good service was fast and prices are fair. The waitress was really nice. She told us about the new red dragon roll. It was so good! The tempura green tea desert was delish! We have been here many times and will definitely be back! You should give this place a try!

The place looked really nice when we walked in but there was pretty much no variety on the menu. Nothing special to choose, and no rolls that I haven’t already heard of. It was a Friday night and the place was EMPTY. I mean we were the only couple for about 15 minutes until another random couple came in and seemed like they knew the waiters. When they brought our rolls out, they were really basic. And I could tell their sea weed salad was from Von’s or some equivalent supermarket. Plus the amount they gave me was not even nearly worth 5 bucks. Agh. Pretty disappointed. There was a pretty cool waitress though!

Very courteous and quick with order, I was literally the only customer. Food definitely needs to improve. Barely any sushi in my rolls. I reduced it from two stars to one star after reading all the reviews. This establishment obviously knows that there is a problem with the food that is being served and they absolutely do not care. Save your money and protect your health and go across the street to Mirin.

I don’t know what has happened lately. Hayashi Sushi used to be my favorite sushi joint in all of North counry which is saying alot as ive been to pretty much all of them. You could get fresh quality fish for a decent price plus service was great. I ate here today and immediately threw up my oysters and rainbow roll which I think was a good thing as I am sure I would have become violently ill. Whatever you do don’t eat here for your health alone not to mention your taste buds. I am positive the oysters and fish were rotten.

Service was ok, but the food was terrible. Teriyaki chicken was so sweet that it tastes almost like the Chinese dish, the Sweet and Sour Chicken. Wasabi was watery and not fresh. The sushi roll fell apart when I tried to pick it up with chopsticks. It is anything but Japanese food. I highly rrcommand against this restaurant.

Sooooo here is the good part when we walked in we could tel it was going to be bad so we decided to go cheap. Here is the bad part I wish I could shit in a bag and return the food they fed me. My turd would probably have more flavor, creativity, and be served hotter then the stuff they tried to pass off as food. I have never been here before and me and my wife decided to try it as this place has been in Esco a long time. After going I don’t know why they are still in biz. As we walked up we noticed a nasty sewer smell.(Maybe a grease trap problem?) We still decided to give a try. We got inside and a nice young waitress was quickly met us and offered us a table. We walked into the dining room and first thing I noticed was the sushi bar area has been turned into storage and there are no sushi fridges on the sushi bar. Right then and there I said oh shit why the f did I just get myself into. We sat down at the table and we started to look at the menue I looked up at my wife and said do you want to leave. There was only one other table on a Sunday evening in use. She said no let’s try it. I told her I’m not going to order any sushi because something is wrong if the sushi bar has been converted to storage and only one other table has patrons. We both ordered rice bowls and garlic enamami. Our drinks came in plastic cups definitely not a good sign and later our rice bowls also came in plastic bowls. I didn’t know it was possible to make bad rice bowls but hey what do I know maybe I’m wrong when I think a rice bowl should have more flavore then a bowl filled like a bathtubs with teriyaki sauce. Neither of us finished our food normally I finish mine and my wife’s If there aref leftovers: D After we got out my wife said never again and I said I thought it was going to be bad so I went the cheapest I could as I was scared. I told my wife at least we got out for under $ 30 and didn’t spend $ 50. My wife told me if we had spent $ 50 bucks she would not have paid flat out. Further more she said jack in the box 2 tacos for $.99 would have been better. She regrets and not getting up and leaving as soon as we walked in. WISH I HADSEENOTHERRECENT UnilocalREVIEWS. — who knows if differnt management or what but seriously don’t go here don’t go don’t go.

They used to be a lot better. The rolls used to be more authentic, if you will. The last time I went, all of my rolls ended up being saturated in eel sauce — I could hardly taste the fish. Even their salmon skin hand roll went down hill — the skin pieces were deep fried and very hard/chewy. On top of that, you guessed it, more sweet eel sauce. All of the rice was saturated in it. The tropical roll was the only one without eel sauce, but it was a glorified California roll with a zesty paste on top with a very thin slice of fish. The zesty paste was much too strong and killed any complexity the roll could have offered. To add insult to injury, the prices are high for the lack of complexity to the specialty rolls they offer. I feel like this place is more suited for first time sushi goers, as there seemed to be one dominating flavor to each roll(namely overpowering sweetness). I’m giving them three stars because the service was acceptable and the staff is friendly. And, I suppose this is a good joint for entry level sushi goers. I try to keep my own palette out of the equation, especially since everything seemed fresh and well prepared. I may come back again in a while and see if things have changed for the better.

Do not eat here. This place is terrible! When the parking lot is empty and there are two people inside on a Friday night at 630; we should have known better. Another bad sign we should have noticed is they do not prepare the sushi where you can see them making it. They prepare the sushi in the kitchen. The fish was not fresh and did not taste good. The service was not very good either. How about some plates and napkins before the food starts coming out? As I am writing this the entire family is sick to their stomach from the food.

Is this sushi for midgets? The fish is so thin you can see through it. Rolls are micro size and a spicy tuna roll isn’t tuna smothered in sauce… old smelly tuna at that. Beer was flat and service SUCKED! Do yourself a favor, opening a can of tuna would be better than this place!

Hyashi Sushi. I am completely disgusted at your employees behavior and serving bad, rotten fish to your customers. I have eaten here a few times, but this was the worst and last time I will eat here. My friend and I went here a few evenings ago to enjoy a nice meal and conversation together. When our first order cane up of vegetable tempura, it was undercooked and crunchy. The shrimp tempura tasted mushy. We sent it back, continually being pleasant to the waitress, who really seemed scared of what was going to happen when she brought the food back. Our garlic edamame was good and the second round of vegetable tempura cooked correctly. My friend and I ordered two different rolls. She asked for a spicy roll and was served this super sweet roll instead. I ordered a lobster, scallop volcano roll and it was a gross mess. I couldn’t even find the actual roll. We both took a bite of our food and instantly knew the fish was bad and definitely not fresh, once again we told the waitress and sent them back. At this point we wanted to pay our bill, leave and go eat somewhere else. The nice waitress brought us our bill for $ 93! We asked the waitress to explain the bill and break it down. Also asking why we were charged for the food we did not eat and sent back. She proceeded to tell us there was no manager but she would talk to the hostess up front. A few moments later she came back and told us there was nothing they could do to help us and we had to pay for everything. My friend then went to speak with the hostess and the employee became beyond rude and standoffish yelling at her saying she was going to call the police on us for not paying. We were willing to pay for what we ate but not for the things we sent back. She started chasing my friend and i and trying to record us on her cell phone as well as taking pictures of us. The police came and tried speaking with her, however she was unwilling to compromise on the bill. The employee also refused to provide the owner information for us to contact reference this horrible experience. Never, have I been treated like this, or been so embarrassed at a restaurant or place of business. I will be contacting the owner somehow and filing a formal complaint.

Came here for lunch on a whim since I was in this area… The girls here were sooo nice and talkative. I was greeted immediately and told about their happy hour specials everyday from 11am-2pm &5pm-6pm … She showed me a menu of what was included during happy hour. While waiting for my takeout she engaged in conversation with me & it came extremely natural for her. My food didn’t take super long to be made; I was in and out within 11 minutes. She handed me my food and even opened the door for me. Unfortunately, I did not get her name. I ordered two rolls: Crazy About U & the Golden Star roll and salmon sashimi for $ 35. As far as the food… It. Was. Sooo. Good !!! I was a very happy camper :) I’ll be back with a friend for sure

Do not come here! The sushi rolls have shrunk to a third of the old size. Felt like we were eating sushi bites… At the same price of the old«adult» sized rolls. And when I say sushi bites, I truly mean the diameter of a quarter. The quality has dropped too. A lot of the sushi has an old fishy flavor. Take your business to the other sushi places in escondido.

Let me start with drinks. My tea was slightly warner than like warm. Apps: — shrimp tempura was ok buy greasy –Miso soup was awful. 1 cup was dark n grainy. We asked the waitress why and she replied because it was from the batch made earlier in the day so it was from the bottom of the barrel. So I asked well cam we get a fresh cup? — salad: Oh boy it was awful. It was only Iceburg lettuce that had a puddle of water at the bottom watered down dressing. Main course: –Must say Louisiana role was delicious –beef teriyaki bowl was ok but way too sweet for my liking. More like a Korean beef –chicken teriyaki was super dry and unappealing –Yakima soba pan fried noodles: Oh boy these were saltier than the Pacific Ocean. Terrible just terrible Dessert: –deep fried green tea: now this was strange. Greasy outside and slushy freezer burn old Ice Cream on the Inside Service: don’t want to ramble so I’ll just say it was the worst part of the whole experience. Price: wayyyyyyyy too expensive for the poor quality low budget food and service.

My mother and friend and I went to this place to try their sushi and be able to sit down. We ended up with the seaweed salad, dragon roll, calamari, rainbow roll, california roll, salmon skin roll, eel roll… a lot of stuff. Our waiter was very nice, very attentive to us, recommending things as well as making sure to pick up things from our table when we were done. The sushi itself was excellent, having very good flavor. Seaweed salad: awesome. The calamari was okay, it filled the void. Be warned that the rolls are a bit more pricey, but you do get what you paid for. The only thing that was super annoying was the blinking light at our table. It blinked so much. But it wasn’t anyone’s fault. All in all, I would definitely come back here again.

My new favorite sushi spot in Esco. I will admit I was scared to come here for the longest time bc of the location but Im glad I finally did. First I want to say the owner Paul is super nice and friendly, when Paul #2 is working the sushi bar its a entertaining night with those two. Sushi is light and fresh and if you are really picky like me and don’t see any rolls that fancy you on the menu they will make one just how you like. I recommend trying the tropical roll made with cilantro, fyi its not on the menu. They have an all you can drink $ 20 deal goin on most nights and the peach sake is super yummy! Also the hand rolls are really good, my favorite is the spicy salmon hand roll. If you find yourself in the area and are in the mood for sushi, then go here. My final words about this place, don’t judge a book by its cover.

Let me start this review by saying that I don’t eat sushi and therefore can’t comment on that aspect of the restaurant. I do, however, eat yakisoba and at this spot, it was just okay. I’ve eaten lots of yakisoba in the past few years(my boyfriend is a sushi fanatic and it’s pretty much my only option) and I’ve had better than at Hayashi. The noodles were a wider shape than I’m used to and the flavor seemed off. The chicken was delicious though. My boyfriend and I dined here on a Thursday afternoon and the place was pretty dead. Although there was only one other table occupied, the kitchen seemed to have trouble timing our meal. His sushi arrived at the table 5 – 10 minutes before my yakisoba. Seeing as this place is way out in Escondido(and pretty deep into Escondido), I wouldn’t make a special trip there. I suppose if you live nearby, this would do though.
