There is a reason they have you pay before you get your food. It takes forever and it’s wrong. Maybe they should take one order at a time and try getting it right. Pastries were dry and service is non existent.

It pains me to write this review. The fact is that there’s no better loaf of bread in town, the staff is really friendly, and the pour-over coffee at market is often my first conscious thought on a given Saturday morning. Still, today’s lunch experience at Hideaway might qualify as one of the most disappointing dining experiences of my life. Be forewarned that there’s almost always a long wait — both in line to order, and also as you wait for your food to come out. I expected much of the same on the tail end of graduation weekend, but after already 20 minutes in line, no amount of thumbing through the Eugene Weekly could keep my hangry frustration at bay. How does it take so long? It was 35 – 40 minutes before my Turkey Pesto sandwich finally came out. I took two famished bites before realizing that my $ 7.50 sandwich had exactly two thin slices of turkey on it. I was already too late for a meeting to talk with someone about it, so I’m writing this review instead. Bad form, Hideaway. While I’m at it, the wifi is always terrible. The Captain Tree breakfast sandwich, however, is really delicious, especially if the kitchen remembers to cover the top half with cream cheese.

Update: Humm … Still locked in 34th place on the list of bakeries in Eugene! Why? Just take a look at their ratings vs others nearer the top of the list of Eugene bakeries. Does Unilocal know that Trip Advisor has Hideaway in first place on their list. How does this disparity happen? We can only guess.

Food and coffee are good. But unless you have 2 hours to kill, you’re not going to like the wait time. And that’s not just the line to order. After ordering it takes decades to get your food, I actually aged 20 years before I got my breakfast sandwich from this place. Not good when you contemplate leaving instead of waiting to get your food, absolutely ridiculous.

This is by far one of the best places in town for ambiance, awesome service, locally grown foods, quality breads, pastries and meals! Mazzi’s house dressing is SOGOOD on the salad that has cranberries and walnuts. The ravioli are to die for, the coffee drinks are intensely rich, and they have awesome indoor and(heated) outdoor seating! great place to bring small kids or work on your laptop. The people who own Hideaway are just an awesome family and it creates a really good vibe at the place.

We live nearby and rode our bikes here on a beautiful day. So happy we stopped in. Gorgeous patio, people mingling, fresh coffee, an unreal cinnamon pastry and the most amazing bakery kitchen inside! I really loved this place. My boyfriend even commented on the natural lighting flowing onto the bakers and their ginormous wood burning oven. Icing on the cake is that they serve their coffee in mugs. That alone makes me feel so welcome. Can’t wait to go back and buy some of their breads and maybe some homemade pasta to cook for dinner.

Some of the best breakfast tacos I’ve ever had!!! You’ve got to try them with a cup of coffee! The place was warm and welcoming! Very friendly staff and a heated outside seating area as well! I will be visiting this place again while in Eugene!

I really enjoyed their homemade chicken tamale — very flavorful with a knockout red chili sauce and a pico de gallo and black beans on the side. They let me sub in an enchilada for one of the two tamales, so I got a poblano cheese enchilada, which was also excellent with just the right amount of heat. I lived in New Mexico for awhile and these were NM worthy. Their cook knows her chilis! Oh! And don’t forget the marionberry cream cheese vessel. So flaky and amazing-and I’m not a huge Danish fan(though I do have some Dane in me). Also I swear by their orange hazelnut pinwheels…

Consistently delicious lattes! The Marion berry pastry and chocolate chip oatmeal cranberry cookie are amazing! Always a line here… makes sense.

I rarely give 5 stars so when I do it means a lot. This bakery is what I miss after I left Eugene. Their bread is the best, freshly baked. The store isn’t big, the bakery takes up the majority of the space. Good coffee, a huge variety of excellent bread. On Saturdays there’s a small farmers market on the premises. Lots of people sit outside on the covered patio; come rain or shine there are always people sipping coffee and enjoying Hideaway’s breakfast or lunch outside. Inside there’s a small space with A wood burning fireplace; gorgeous! If you’re a bread lover you should really check this bakery out. Their heavy dense grain bread I prefer is almost German bread. It keeps well and is the most nutritious bread one can dream of. Croissants, pastry, Italian bread, too much to name it. This is bread like bread is supposed to be. I miss you, Hideaway Bakery!

Hideaway has delicious pastries, bread and panini. And the owners are so nice but I have found myself avoiding Hideaway because of the«dog friendly» nature of the business. So many entitled dog owners bring their dogs and sit in the outdoor patio area that I just can’t take it anymore. I don’t like being licked and sniffed as I go into a business that sells food. So the food and the owners get 5 stars. The atmosphere gets 1 star until the dogs are cleared out.

The pastries are fantastic, the coffee is great, the bread is great, some of the kitchen dishes are really solid. Super friendly staff.

So much to choose from! Croissants, muffins, scones, etc etc. We didnt even realize they had an actual food(non-pastry) menu since we were so distracted by the display of baked goodies. Also lots of gluten-free options. Delicious smells inside, but no indoor seating. Husband and I retreated to the car to eat our breakfast since it was 30-something degrees outside this morning and no available space under the heaters provided out on the patio. Short line but it moved real quick.

The food is great, this review is in regards to the service and internet quality. We went here with a group last weekend to work on a project because I love the atmosphere and had had great food here. Unfortunately the internet wasn’t working. When I asked the woman behind the counter about it she said«Oh yeah it doesn’t work very well. I’ll try to reset it for you. It might be too busy though.» I’m not sure if she meant too many people were using the internet(I saw one other person with a computer out) or if the café was too busy for someone to take a second to reset the internet(There were multiple empty tables and I have seen tho splice completely full). Anyway she was rude and it bothered me because I was the one who had suggested Hideaway to the group. Bottom line=Do not go here if you are trying to study or get work done if you need the internet.

Great food and coffee at reasonable prices. Minus a star because the gluten-free goodies are not gluten-free enough for Celiacs. Such a tease.

Note — this is a review for the lunch menu only, not the baked goods. Bakery = 5 stars for quality. I like hideaway bakery’s lunchtime offerings. They have particularly good salads and their sandwiches and other entrees are solid. My bone to pick with them is their inconsistent quality. It’s so bad! I sometimes hesitate to come because it’s disappointing to get a poor quality version of something you enjoy, and pay full price for it. Every single time I’ve ordered a salad the prep and presentation has been different. Sometimes dressings are thick and creamy, sometimes they are super runny. Will the tempeh on my salad be steaks, or strips, or tiny chunks this time. Will the plate overflow with lettuce, or will it be a single handful. Will I need to throw a life preserver on the plate or ask for another side of dressing. What will the ratio of vegetables to lettuce be, and will each ingredient be in its own pile or pre-tossed, you can’t know. Some variation between chefs is normal, and I think encouraged. But it also makes sense to have certain plating and food ratios set. Love you hideaway! I’ll not stop eating lunch here and your staff are always wonderful.

There are several clearly marked vegan options, all of which are rather tasty. The bagels are vegan and are my favorite. They have earth balance. It would be great if they would get a vegan cream cheese. The fireplace makes it a great work spot. The food counter where you order has to be one of the most ill-designed setups out there. Rather annoying.

This place is a must grub. Insanely good bakery. Very nice heated outdoor seating area. Their cream cheese Danish is thick and delicious and not like any others I have had. I can’t wait to come back here again.

It is a very charming shop and the review is only based on the chocokate croissant and potato donuts that I had. Seeing that wood stove, I wanted to give this place a 5 star already! But that pain au chocolat was just too doughy for me. It’s not flaky enough. The chocolate was good. The potato donut was a bit too sweet. It is deep fried so it still picked up a lot of oil. I will still go back and try the bread and their pizza given the chance.
