Sushiya – used to be Misako – hasn’t changed much besides it’s name as far as I can tell from reading past reviews. The look of the place is nice, but it stops there. As a disclaimer, I went by myself, and I think you notice more alone. The acoustics interfered with my experience – first a screaming baby, which is no one’s fault. Then I couldn’t help notice that all the people at the bar seemed to work there and were in and out of the kitchen, though apparently not helping the over-taxed waitress. There were also four people standing behind the counter doing nothing while one young sushi chef took a long time to make each order. Care in the details? Nope. Poor quality tuna which wasn’t even masked by the spicy roll I ordered, served on a lacquer-chipped wooden tray that felt less than sanitary. As a final assault to my senses, one of the non-working employees waited impatiently for the busy waitress to count out his tips and played a solitary game of tossing his keys in the air repeatedly, dropping them every third time. Did they notice that there were customers? Aside from the waitress, the staff felt unprofessional and lacking in workplace pride. Hmm… the avocado was good.

this place is not unfairly picked on. They had Terrible service, Bad presentation… everything was wrong. Do not order the beef tataki. that was the biggest ripoff ever.

I have to agree with the prior reviewer. The décor is pretty nice but the service and food could be a lot better. After finally being seated, we had to wait another 15 minutes for someone to take our order. Then the longer wait(20 – 25 minutes) for our food to get there. When it finally came, we found the donburi and tempura to be just so-so and not a good value for the price. The chicken katsu donburi didn’t have enough taste and some of the tempura(especially the carrot) was still hard in the middle. No Japanese chefs in the restaurant also. I guess we should have waited until Portland to get some Japanese food.

There are just better places around than Misako’s in terms of price, food, and service. The only thing they have going for them that I can find from my many visits, have been their décor. Located in downtown, this place always has a good turnout but I’ve seen many disastisfied folks due to the lack of service and bland sushi that doesn’t merit the cost. Sure its Eugene, but there are better places to enjoy good Japanese. Its just too bad that Misako isn’t one of them.
