Absolutely fantastic. Great service, great décor, amazingly fresh and delicious sushi, and good prices! Will go back!

I’m sorry to say this was a very disappointing experience. We walked in at an odd hour(3:30pm) and had the place to ourselves for a while. The atmosphere was nice with low key music and the restaurant seems friendly and clean. The older woman who initially helped us was greeted us warmly and was attentive. My boyfriend and I ordered seaweed salad, the sashimi rice bowl, caterpillar roll and bushidu roll. The seaweed salad was good and a nice portion size. The rest however was very disappointing. The sashimi on the rice bowl did not taste fresh and was not cut well. Similarly the rolls did not taste fresh at all. I’m a bit worried about food poisoning, in fact. A new waitress served us and was not very helpful and gave us our check in the middle of our meal. She didn’t take empty plates and wrote us off very quickly. When I asked for a green tea, she brought out a glass that was just over half way full. I was really looking forward to eating here and overall I’m very disappointed. I don’t plan to go back.

I am addicted to their chicken teriyaki bowl at lunch! I ask for extra broccoli. No charge and YUMMY! It’s unfortunate for me that I work across the street! I am there at least once a week! Sometimes if they notice I am busy with customers they will actually deliver my order without being asked! So nice! I have enjoyed a few dinners their too. Very good food!

Saturday night just after 7. Empty restaurant that filled part way as I ate the $ 43 sushi/sashimi combo with miso soup. A nice sampling plate of their nigiri sushi, a couple of rolls and some sashimi. All were good. Excellent ratio of fish to sushi rice for the nigiri. Rice was almost too small for the ample fish portion. Prices are very affordable and reasonable for the portion size. Service was excellent. I was thinking of having Uni. I asked if it was good. Waitress thought yes, but then checked with chef who said it was not the freshest and waitress passed on the chef’s comment. I appreciated the honesty. I also declined to order it since I am an Uni snob thanks to Haji at Koto in Nashville who served me some fresh off the plane, melt in your mouth Uni several years ago. A definite add to the favorite places to frequent when in town on business. I will be back!

Out of the 3 Shushi Bars downtown, this one is a good #2.

Oh my, so many choices! Everything tasted fresh, we were served promptly and our waitress was friendly, if difficult to understand. If you’re hearing impaired, I suggest you go with someone normal hearing or familiar with Asian accents. Also, although the place is very loud — terrible acoustics. Go for the food not for an intimate dinner. Oh yes, they also have an extensive variety of Saki’s

I have been to A LOT of sushi restaurants. Probably over 100 all over Oregon and California. And this is some of the best sushi I’ve ever had in my life. The fish was unbelievably fresh and flavorful. I highly recommend the Sushi Ya roll! It was my favorite. If you want an authentic Japanese restaurant experience this is the place to go. They even have a Japanese bidet in the bathroom and I was excited because I’ve never seen one before! The customer service is also out of this world. Our waitress was such a kind, bubbly, fun woman who made it such an enjoyable experience. This is my new favorite restaurant and I’m going to be making the drive from Corvallis whenever I want sushi, because nowhere near me compares.

So bummed to say this, because it tastes great, but I had the worst case of food poisoning ever after eating here. And I know what you’re thinking–«raw fish, duh.» Except I didn’t eat any fish. I got the chicken katsu ramen and tempura battered sweet potato. Yikes. Tasted great, but 7 hours later, it wasn’t so nice.

Just stopped in for a quick bite, since I was craving sushi and happened to be driving past. They have a couple of really decent rolls, and a nice tonkatsu don. Not much else to comment on — the décor’s fine, the service is fine, the prices are fine. The toilet’s a bit of a trip.

The sushi here is consistently good… the ramen and udon tastes pretty bland. I had the Ramen Katsu this time and the meat was overcooked, and it just tasted blah. The sushi on the other hand is fresh and always tasty. I took one star for service because every time we come here our server always forgets something that we’ve ordered. Never fails. The other star is because the only thing the appears to be made from scratch is the sushi.

The sushi is the best I’ve had in Eugene. The service is also excellent, the sushi chef is really nice. I’m always trying to get everyone I know to go here because it’s awesome!

One of my favorite sushi places downtown. Everything is fresh, lots of variety, and a great price point. They also have an amazing sake selection.

Very good quality sushi, friendly staff, really chill atmosphere, and amazing prices. I’ve been to other sushi restaurants in Eugene that have pricier sushi rolls and I can honestly say that Sushi Ya has the best taste. Highly recommend this place!

This place is my favorite. The quality surpasses all the other sushi places in downtown. If you are in downtown Eugene, and you want great sushi, look no further. I have tried the other downtown places and have felt like I was overcharged for the quality, and value, you will not get that here. I love the lunch combo plates, and would recommend it to anyone. Around $ 10 for a sushi roll, a kitchen item, and a miso soup cant be beat. They have lots of decent dinner specials as well. If you spend a little or a lot they always treat you like a valued customer at this place. That cannot be said for a lot of the sushi places in downtown. Bottom line: Want good sushi with a wide variety to choose from? This is the place to go.

Strong customer service skills that breaks language barriers… The owner has always recognized us, even when we don’t come in for months, and has fairly weak English speaking skills. But that has never stopped her from being accommodating and joyfully friendly with us since the beginning. Well, today we went in for lunch because I am leaving next week for a few months for an internship in South America then afterwards moving away from Eugene. I clumsily explained to her that I was leaving and she clumsily followed me. We both attempted communication through large hand gestures and simple statements. We managed to communicate a sort of «I’ll miss you» to one another, even though I haven’t been there in a long time and we don’t even know each other’s first names, and then she surprised me with a free tempura Ice cream. I’ve had fried ice cream before at other places, and it was awful, which is why I never tried tempura Ice cream. Well this was fantastic! And now I’m sad I’m leaving because I need to eat more of it! We reciprocated by getting her a mini Marionberry pie from the pie lady at Saturday Market. Honestly, this place is the best. The food is always good, the employees have always been sweet, and the owners seem to take care of and see personal investment in all of their customers! No need for communicating with language when you can feel(and taste) the love!

Unfortunately I have to give a low review because of the service. According to there website(that I showed the waitress) there happy hour at 3:00 is 30% off but there menu says 20%. She basically brushed me off.

I love me some sushi! This place was pretty good. Noting to jump up and down about but I’d go back. The price was good for sushi and the service was great. Thought it was a little cold in there. It was weird how slow they were on a Saturday night though. We went in at 6:30… on a Saturday… why would a good place be slow? I can’t say anything was specifically exceptional, other than nice service, but even that could have been slightly better.

Definitely not the best Japanese place in town, but a good, reliable choice for lunch when the mood strikes for bento or udon. Most Japanese restaurants keep limited lunch hours and close in mid-afternoon. Often they don’t open for lunch every day, and sometimes there are no lunch hours at all. No worries about that here. They are open seven days a week, and only on Sunday can you not get lunch. Because DLW and I live close by, we stop here for Saturday lunch pretty often. I usually opt for a bento when the weather is warm, or soup when it’s cold. Nabeyaki udon is a personal favorite. DLW looks for the daily specials to find something interesting and authentically Japanese, but she will sometimes get ramen. Food is usually good if not great, and prices are reasonable. Like most Eugene restaurants they are understaffed, with no more than two waitresses trying to cover the whole floor of 50 seats or so. Tables often go unbussed for quite a while. Atmosphere is like a neighborhood hangout that happens to serve sushi instead of nachos. Go with expectations in line, and you should have a good experience.
