The place was cute and the salsa was good. The waiter lied to me about having Tanquerey gin and brought me some sort of Gin and Tonic in a Martini glass. When the food came the Chimichangas tasted like they sat for hours before we arrived and the chicken(I ordered 1 beef and 1 chicken but got 2 chicken) was not edible. The cheese enchilada was very good, it had a great sauce which I think might have been their Mole sauce. I would not eat here again but if I did I would not order anything with meat.

Veggie fajitas were cooked well and proportioned generously. Multiple vegetarian options were much appreciated! Friendly service and easy parking make this a great choice.

My son and I walk here often. Great enchiladas. Very affordable lunch and some pretty decent salsa.

Probably not really a four star place. But it’s popular and cheery-bright(orange walls and lots of kitsch), and it reminds me of how Tex Mex places were when I was a kid.(In a good way). And most of all, it has the best chile relleno I’ve found in Eugene(so far — I’m still looking!). GF’s soft tacos were«ok not memorable» and the salsa was fresh but bland. But the relleno had good fleshy chile and a nice egg batter, with flavorful queso blanco and a really delicious savory sauce to pull it all together. Not so easy to find, yum!

I am always happy to eat here. The place is clean & has a mexican-spanish feel. All the enchilada plates are terrific. The convenience of a good location plus they are open everyday of the week.

It used to be amazing, however recently they have raised their prices and the food is not worth the price No more veggies with chips either. won’t ever go back

Excellent Mexican in Eugene! They have several vegetarian entrees on the back of the menu that can be made vegan. Love the red and green salsa as the latter is quite spicy which is a good thing in my opinion. Love the pickled carrots. Have been here twice for dinner. The first time we tried the veggie fajitas which were huge and fine to share leaving us even with a bit to take out. The enchiladas were smaller than the fajitas and fine to share.

The food was absolutely amazing! The service was the worst experience of my dining out life. Don’t get me wrong… everyone was really nice but other than taking our order, bringing us drinks and our food… we didn’t get any other service. They asked us what we were drinking for refills but never refilled. My husband ordered the Fajitas and was only given 3 small tortillas and when we tried to ask them for more(he still had 75% of the meat left) they didn’t stop at our table or even look our way. It’s really sad that such awesome food comes with the worst service ever. They should hire a few more people.

We have been looking for a new Mexican restaurant since moving back to Eugene. We liked the atmosphere at Tio Pepe and unlike other people our service was very good. I had the two tamale combo, my husband two enchiladas and a chile relleno. He said the relleno was not to doughy and good, I really enjoyed the tamales. Our kids liked the rice and beans. We will certainly be back and might consider this as our go to Mexican restaurant.

This unassuming place on River Road is in a no man’s land surrounded by a whole lot of nothing much. It’s not in walking distance from anything. The sign near the road is the only signal that it even exists. I’ve never seen them advertise. It’s typical Tex-Mex inside with green and red tile inlaid on the tables and mariachi music playing. There’s a full bar, and a separate dining room for private events as well as the main dining area. The room was half full on a Saturday evening when we arrived, and stayed that way for the hour or so we were there. We have had several meals here, but hadn’t been back for a while, so we were confronted with new menus. The list is large, maybe too large, yet reduced from what it was on our first visit. A couple of items we had ordered in the past were not there anymore, but the kitchen could probably prepare them still if you wanted. DLW had a fajita burrito, all of the fixings from a fajita in a burrito, and none of the smoke. A few people had the full fajita effect, so the room was filled with the smell of burning soy sauce. I went for tacos al pastor, a go-to for me, and got two well-loaded tortillas with guacamole and pico on the side, plus a spare tortilla for picking up the droppings from the first two. Margarita and sangria were both good if not exceptional. Prices are a good value, and service is a bit better than average for Eugene. One of the better Mexican places in town, and a clear winner among the full service places.

My favorite thing about Tio Pepe’s? It’s great Mexican food that isn’t swimming in melted cheese to hide lack of flavor like so many places! My husband and I come here often and the service is always fantastic. Chips, salsa and pickled carrots come out right away, and a pitcher of beer quickly follows. Love the Tacos Tijuaneros(me) and Carne Asada(hubby). We try something new every third or fourth time and I have yet to find something I don’t like. Lots of improvements have happened lately too. Recommend for a great, flavorful meal!

The new menu is filled with tastiness, the salsa is wonderful, the Cadillac margaritas are worth every penny, and the décor is colorful and fun. Works for me! Javier and Andres make a great team =)

The two stars are for their service and the pickled carrots they serve with the chips. However, those two things don’t make it a place worth coming back to. Mostly because they put nutmeg in their sauces. I don’t know if it’s a regional thing, but I’ve never had Mexican food with nutmeg, and it wasn’t just a dash of the stuff. No, the burritos, and enchilada sauces are overpowered by the taste, and it just doesn’t work for me, perhaps others don’t mind it, but Mexican food tons of nutmeg… Not for me.

The food was good and we were given the right portions, but a bit over priced for the ingredients used. My main focus will be the service. Being a Friday evening, I expected a crowd, but the restaurant was not full. The staff, however, seemed unorganized. We were into our second bowl of chips before we were offered a beverage. My dining partner received her food first; there were only two of us at the table. My food arrived a few minutes later; by then my table-mate was half way done with her meal;(she was hungry and I allowed her to start while it was still hot!). No offers to refill our beverages when her plate was cleared away. Once finished we sat for a few minutes waiting for our check, the busboy cleared our table and we still waited for our check. No one told us there would be no check and to pay at the register. Although the place looks nice inside and the employees are nice, I most likely won’t return because of the prices.

This place has great flautas, complete with sour cream and guacamole to dip. I got takeout and it was still delicious. Chips and really tasty salsa come with the takeout, which is awesome. That’s something I love about going out that you just don’t usually get with takeout. Staff was really nice and food was ready very quickly.

Tio’s might be one of the better Mexican restaurants in town, but that ain’t saying much. The past few times we’ve been, the food has been extraordinarily salty. I am pretty sure without the salt it would be a lot better. I had the carne tampiquena and had the albondigas soup. The soup, I would never order again. The carne was pretty tasty!

I’ve been three times now, and I’d have to say that this is probably the best Mexican food in Eugene, and not just Tex-Mex. For that, I’d say Chapala is fairly good, but this is more authentic. They serve menudo, coctel de camaron and a lot of my other Mexican and South American favorites. My favorite so far is the Carne Tampiquena, which comes with a thin, grilled steak, 2 strips of bacon, a cheese enchilada, sweet plantains(maduros) seasoned with cinnamon, rice, beans, pico de gallo, guacamole and your choice of flour or corn tortillas. All of that for $ 11.95! You could spend more here, and the Parillada is similar with a bit more meat for and extra 3 bucks, but I haven’t been able to bring myself to order that, lest I look like a glutton. The salsa and chips are also good, and my husband loves the ropa vieja and the carne asada tacos. Everything is reasonably priced and I haven’t had anything I didn’t like, although the shrimp in cream sauce was probably just a little heavier than I would have liked. Still, I will definitely go back to try as many dishes as possible, as it’s right down the street from where I work out, so if I hit the gym first, I can feel a little less guilty about eating all that fatty food.

I used to go here all the time in the past and it was always good. Went last night with a friend. Salsa tasted bland. chips were good. Service was ok? I ordered a root beer and they brought me a dr. pepper but then when I told the server he was like oh! sorry! and fixed it. We got the chicken fajitas and they were ok, but I’ve had better at Chapalas. and we didn’t get sour cream with all the stuff they give you on the side. We didn’t ask for any bc I figured we would be charged for it. AND… last night and today I had a HORRIBLE stomach ache… I love the people. the owners they are so nice but it seems over the years they have been going downhill a bit.

I’ve heard good things from several sources that Tio Pepe is an all around great choice for Mexican Food. After having visited a couple of times, I can’t get past the significant saltiness of the food. My boyfriend raves about their re-fried beans(«they make them the real way, with lard!») The beans weren’t bad, but after that comment, I chose not overindulge in said lardy beans. My burrito was decent in flavor, although one could say it was rather mild in spice, and served with generous sides. The boyfriend’s fajitas were served hot and sizzling… and continued to sizzle so long that the meat was eventually overcooked and a little charred. The salt level of my flavor buds had reached their max, but service left much to be desired as my water never got refilled. I never considered myself to be sodium sensitive, but after a meal at Tio Pepe’s, I found myself craving water in a new way. Bottom line, probably won’t be back.
