Just found this cute little shop in Old Town Eureka and the coffee is delicious! It’s nice and cozy in the inside and the baristas are friendly. They make their own syrups too and it’s amazing!

We’ve been driving down the coast from Seattle to San Francisco trying coffee shops along the way. This was definitely one of the better ones with a good flat white. I was hoping for a muffin or snack to go with it, but there wasn’t much left, and they’re open for five more hours. Still, the coffee is good.

FAVORITE coffee shop! So cute and quaint. Their espresso is great as well as the chai tea. The quiche is great too! All the employees are amazing and sweet as well. Very comfy and laid back atmosphere. Definitely recommend this little gem of a place!

Very chill atmosphere and a great place to hang out. But if you’re getting something to go… I wouldn’t. They have very slow service.

Traveling up PCH from LA, Eureka was the perfect pit stop before reaching Portland. Ample meter parking in nearby lots.(A quarter can buy you a decent amount of time) We stepped in to Because Coffee and I knew right away that this was the perfect stop. It’s everything I love in a café. Kitschy, bohemian, and eclectic. The barista served up a couple of great tasting café au laits. We opted for almond milk and I splurged on one of the house made organic syrups. I ended up getting lavender because the Hawaiian black sea salt caramel was out.(How incredible did that sound?) The lavender was pleasant and not too sweet. We sat on one of the vintage couches and dug into the pizza bread. Cheese and tomato sauce. It wasn’t something brand new to us, but I enjoyed having the savory option. The barista served our drinks in big ceramic mugs. I miss this about getting coffee. Everything seems to come in a paper cup nowadays. Though I was eager to hit the road, this was a welcomed pit stop for us to enjoy. Entertaining reading material and old board games are available. This is a great place to spend a few hours at.

This place keeps me alive. The quiche is amazing and Katie and her wonderful staff are serious about their coffee. The homemade syrups are incredible. I don’t normally go in for fru-fru flavored coffee drinks, but I make an exception for the lavender latté. The iced coffee is strong and good, and the service is great. Go to here.

Clearly there are some coffee aficionados out there reviewing this place. I am not one of them. Why? I drink decaf. I cannot drink caffeinated beverages or I will quickly reach critical mass and create a nuclear chain reaction. You, dear reader, do not want to be around when this occurs. Fortunately the folks at Because Coffee got me all set up with a lovely white chocolate mocha, 16oz, no whip, DECAF and disaster was yet again averted. It was very good, made with care and done to my requirements. Thank you for a lovely beverage.

Finally a cozy café in Eureka! A few have come and gone in the 8 years I’ve lived here and I hope this one can hang on! Because Coffee is my favorite place to get a latte(with their house made vanilla syrup, yum!) or a chai. It’s a quirky little place with fun decorations and a very sweet proprietor. The service is pretty slow, the hours are inconsistent and the skill with which the drinks are made varies but if you’re looking for a place to sit and read, chat with a friend or just mull over a beverage, a place with a classic charming café feeling, this is the best one in Eureka.

Walked in with my man; there were three women in there and no one else. I had a reusable mug. One woman(I assume the owner) asked me what I wanted and took my mug. My man continued to stand waiting patiently for anyone of them to asks what he wanted. The other two women didn’t ask or say anything to us. Mind you one of the women it appeared to be her first day working there because the woman making my coffee was asking if she’d made tea before and she said no. When my latte was finished the owner had the new girl ring up my order and finally at that point we mentioned that yes my man wanted a coffee too not just me. So they paused ringing us up to make his. At this point the owner let the new girl make the coffee and I’m glad for the comparison. The new girl had obviously been a barista somewhere else because it tasted fine and was actually filled to the brim. I mention the level of fullness because my 12 oz latte was more like an 8 oz with a full inch and a half unfilled; also it tasted awful! I can’t understand how this place exists they have no sense of customer service; you don’t ignore people when they come in. When there are half a dozen coffee shops nearby shouldn’t you try to stand out with better service and products not with overpriced rudeness.

My experience at Because Coffee was horrible. Upon entering, I was excited to see a menu full of options from some of the West Coast’s best roasters. I chose an Ethiopian from Four Barrel, poured over. I was surprised to see the barista use a metal mesh filter(no paper filter). Okay, I thought. Unorthodox, but I’ll reserve judgment. Lo and behold, an ultra fine grind(pre-ground) which wouldn’t be suitable for even a paper filter poured straight through the metal mesh and right into my cup, leaving a lovely half-inch thick layer of sediment in the bottom of my cup for me to find about halfway through. Also, because the water spent almost no time in the cone, the coffee was watery, and yet somehow still bitter and over extracted due to the water being way too hot. Basically, the impression I got is that the proprietor(who was the one who served me) has no idea how to use at least the pour over method. Just having top notch beans does not a decent cup make. It’s a good start, but just a little basic knowledge about how to properly prepare coffee would have made the experience way better. The fact that the person who should care the most about the quality of the coffee chose to serve me such awful coffee speaks a lot to what is going on there. The icing on the cake was another«barista», standing around trying to pitch«cofftea» to patrons. It was really unprofessional and irritating. I tried it after some cajoling. It was as bad as it sounds, especially since it was a flavored tea. Gross. My wife had warned me not to go in there after giving it several tries. Looks like I’ll stick to Café Brio for the best coffee in the county. I will give them credit for atmosphere and friendliness. Hopefully this review inspires them to spend a few minutes googling preparation methods, as it seems like they had no experience preparing pour over or even bothered to look in to it.

This is an eclectic little coffee shop with loads of character. It is definitely not chain-like in any way. We stopped here on the way to Mill Valley from Crescent City and knew we would need some liquid pick-me-up. Sarah was behind the counter and very helpful. The chairs were ultra comfy and the other customers in the place were friendly and eager to talk. Besides that, the coffee was excellent! All in all, a great must-stop-for place if you want good coffee and good conversation. Thank you Sarah!

Loved the owner’s hospitality, the design of the shop and types of coffee available(lots of guest selections that rotate frequently). They have plenty of comfy chairs and a great selection of reading material(Artforum, New Yorker). We ordered a Kenya on drip and a cappuccino. The Kenya was watery and far too hot. We couldn’t taste the flavor of the coffee. The flavors in the espresso were equally lost in the taste of burnt, foamy, fluffy milk in the cap. This shop opened recently. Fingers crossed for them and we’ll definitely be coming back to enjoy the cozy atmosphere and to see how things are progressing.

Upon entering, I was simultaneously cuddled and over-stimulated. Peppered with luxuriously textured chairs and couches really made the modest space feel warm and homely, with beautiful book and oyster shell artwork on the walls solidifying the cold town sea-side ambiance. Various unique blends of freshly brewed coffees do the polka across my senses. I felt warmer and energized already! Choosing which mood I was in took some menu studying, because there was no wrong decision to make. I went with a light roast called«White Eagle», twelve ounces and black. It was perfect. I hesitate to say«the service was exceptional» because ‘service’ sounds so impersonal, and the experience was more like grabbing a cup of joe at a friend’s house, though it was my first time in. She was delightful and uplifting like her coffee, he was humorous and enjoyable to chat with. I sat at the bar, which I believe is my favorite part of the whole thing, along side two regulars who entertained as if they were part of the purchase. This is my dad’s favorite place. Pretty sure it is now mine as well. I look forward to making my way around the menu, sipping from different mugs, and stimulating barstool chit chat as I escape the oncoming winter weather.

Open a little late for a coffee shop(8am during the week), but a great vibe. The staff and locals make you feel at home, openly chatting about what’s going on around town. The assortment of furniture gives the place a comfortable feel and the eclectic selection of scattered books is exactly the kind of quirkiness I love about small, independent coffee shops. The espresso is only $ 2 and excellent. I didn’t get anything else, but they have a large drink menu(sorry, not much to eat!) If I ever find myself back in Eureka, Im definitely bringing someone to play on the chessboard.

I love this place! The coffee is the highlight for sure-the people there seem to take a lot of pride in offering coffee and espresso which is a cut above the rest of the area’s offerings. They offer a variety of roasts from various locations including locals roasters. The woman who pulled my shots was friendly and funny and took great care in preparing my espresso drink. The interior of the shop is very artfully arranged and a comfortable place to sit and read, or engage a friend in conversation, or people watch out the large windows, if you’re into that sort of thing. There was a customer hanging out who acted like he owned the place, but he wasn’t too bad-I just avoided him while he carried on about how he «installed the floor» or whatever. Dude, get over it; you didn’t even install the border with 45 degree cuts like you should have. The picture rail appeared to be installed correctly at 2⁄7 the ceiling-to-floor measurement. If you’re like me and have longed for a location that could provide you with really good coffee and espresso, your wait is over!
