I had one of their ‘specialty dishes’, the Tempura Wok Fried Fish. It was basically battered Tilapia fillets with an overly sweet(and not at all spicy) orange, red chili, and ginger glaze. Too sweet, and it also came with a side of steamed green beans. I recommend in getting the sauce on the side so that you can choose to your level of sweetness. The Chinese Ramen Noodle, on the other hand, was better than I thought. It had wheat noodles, roasted pork(that tasted like braised beef), fried up chicken gyoza, spinach leaves, shiitake, scallions, and tofu. The broth was just chicken broth. +Chinese Ramen Noodle

I am shocked that I had not reviewed Lulu’s prior to now. I love Lulu’s when I want either a snack or a meal that will leave me with a warm comforted feeling. Let’s get real here– who out there among you could fail to Love Love Love any Japanese restaurant that has a collection of «Godzilla» toys on display? The décor is a bit understated, and perhaps the menu is a bit confusing, but take your time to look over the choices and try a dish that may be a bit outside your comfort zone. The Hot and Sour soup and the vegetable spring rolls are some of my personal favorites.

Lulu’s is okay — and sadly, I think i heard they may be closing soon as a result of being«okay». They have really crammed tables if you plan on getting any tea, and the food is just average. I imagine their brunch is where all the magic is, and yet I know I’ll probably never get a chance to check it out — while simultaneously not caring that I’ll miss it. It’s just not that special, I guess. Sorry Lulu’s, we want great thai food — and in that, you do not deliver completely. We had potato croquettes, and those were actually probably the only high point of the meal, although they had some kind of mayo with them that was… not quite as appetizing. Veggie spring rolls were just boring. The vegetable salad was without a doubt, unimpressive. Lastly we have the Udon which I actually liked but it still was just the same udon you get everywhere. Why did I get Udon? Because there weren’t enough veggie options and the Thai options were way too limited. Eh, I’ll pass on this place.

Service was not great and the food was not worth 1 star. Blakh We ordered the munch a bunch which is all you can eat off of the regular menu minus the mussels, salmon and other seafood items. I’m cool with that I get it… But you know it’s bad when you ordered about 2 entrees for the table and 2 appetizers with no plan to order anything else to try. I was very disappointed… Let’s just say I was still hungry when I left!

Most things I enjoyed in college(ex: peppermint schnapps) doesn’t taste as good now that I’m all«grown-up.» However, I recently rediscovered my favorite college salad, the ginger chicken salad, and it’s just as scrumptious as it was back in the 90s. I enjoyed it so much that I went back just a few weeks later to order it again! While the ginger chicken salad at Lulu’s is a must, the entire menu is impressive. During my most recent visit my friend and I split my beloved salad salad along w/an order of shrimp pad thai. It totally hit the spot and I loved that it wasn’t as heavy/greasy as other pad thais I’ve had elsewhere. Where Lulu’s could improve is their kids menu choices., but I guess that’s to be expected if they’re usually catering to college kids. My daughter’s «kids menu» consisted of a bento box that would literally take her 3 weeks to finish. They also asked me what kind of soft drink I’d like to go along w/my kids meal. A soft drink for a 2 year old? Really Lulu? She’d be better off w/some peppermint schnapps!

Actually, it’s better the second time around. Having had take-away and being a bit nonplussed after eating it, I was surprised that I tried my hand at another round of food at Lulu’s. The atmosphere looks catchy and the place is always full. I figured the take-away was just one of those off moment. Ginger lemonade. Potato croquettes. Curried squash soup. Coconut shrimp. Wonton wonton sundae. The server said the ginger lemonade was intense. It was, and very refreshing. I shall have to have it when summer graces Chicago. The potato croquettes reminded me of some croquettes I have had a a Spanish tapas bar. Loved them. The curried squash soup was a fantastic autumn soup and with the temperatures still being slightly chilly, it was still a bonus. The coconut shrimp was what I had as a take-away and I think it may be carry-out that fails. The coconut shrimp in-house was incredibly delicious. I should have stopped and not had any dessert, but I did anyway. I was bent over after the three fist size scoops of ice cream(i.e., vanilla, coconut, and banana chocolate chip) and the large fried wontons that had been dipped in sugar and cinnamon. I was way beyond drunk on food happiness. I think that Lulu’s may be a better in-house dining experience than take-away. The servers are a bit scrambled and that may be because the restaurant fills up fast. However, I think I can take the scattered service more than I can an unsavoury carry-out package.
