I love eating here. It is very similar to a place we went to when we honeymooned in Kauai. We used to live down the street and would come all the time, but have since moved to Denver, and have found no where as good. So we try to drop in for a meal whenever we are in town. Try the Hawaiian Sun combo. Everything is so good. Mochiko chicken, Kailua pig, Meat Jun, EVERYTHING.

Hands down the BEST Hawaiian north of Seattle. Take my advise and take a seat because you will not be disappointed. My mouth is watering thinking of this place. Service is always wonderful. Family owned and they always chit chat and make you feel like your from the islands. Food is well portioned and reasonably priced. I recommend getting the 2 meats meal because you can try 2 different items off their menu. Without a doubt it’s the best mochiko chicken and their Mac salad is the bomb. My family comes on a regular basis and we have never had a bad experience. Enjoy!

This is my favorite Hawaiian restaurant! The prices are super reasonable and the food is great. I absolutely love getting their spam musubi – a trip here doesn’t feel complete without one. I’m usually torn by all of the yummy choices, such as the banana lumpia, bbq chicken, and short ribs, all of which are my favorite. Luckily, they have an awesome Sides menu which let’s you get one of everything, plus rice, for the price of about a meal, or about a meal and a half. How awesome is that?!! The only tiny downside is that sometimes they are closed on random days since it is a small, family-run business, but hey, we all need to take a vacation some time right?

From the outside(and even when you walk in the door) you might have second thoughts about this place. It is not modern and it appears to be in bad shape. The table we sat at was clean but wobbled significantly. However if you do decide to give this place a chance, THEFOODISAMAZING. They have a wide variety of affordable Hawaiian barbeque options and the portion sizes are great for the price. It seems family owned and appeared to only have one lady working the front. So when they are busy it can be a bit slow, however she is very attentive and will take care of you as best she can. My one complaint is that they leave the silverware at the table in bunches. This just seems like a sanitary problem for me and I was a bit hesitant to use the utensils at first. They seemed clean enough however. I ordered the Huli Huli Chicken for my meal and I was impressed, it was delicious and came with two generous scoops of rice on the side. They also have take out options available and they do cater as well. I reccommend this place for anyone looking for an authentic and quick meal!

I’ve only tried a couple Hawaiian places and this one is my favorite! The workers there are always really nice and the food is not too greasy. The place might seem a little outdated but the food sure keeps me coming back! The chicken Katsu is my favorite because Their chicken is tender and the crust isn’t too thick or oily.

This place is great! I ordered the Hawaiian Sun combo and chose the loco moco and garlic mochiko chicken with a side of spam musubi. Good portions of each that u didn’t have enough room for the musubi but I forced it down cuz it tasted so good. The place was clean and the staff was very friendly and attentative. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Finally tried this place for pick up dinner on a Friday evening. After reading the reviews on how good the spam masubi was, I was very eager to try it. I ordered the Hawaiian Sun combo, with chicken katsu and huli huli chicken. Great flavor on the huli and the katsu was just how I liked it. I ordered the Kalua pork with cabbage for my girl and she thought it was good too. Mac salad was delish. The hostress/waitress was nice too. Got me confused with a prior order but all was good. The only thing I will pick on with this place is that, coming in, I was looking forward to trying the spam masubi and in my order, I DIDNOTRECEIVEMYSPAMMASUBI. I GOTHOMEANDITWASNOTTHERE. I WASSAD. Next time I’m in the area, I’m just going to order the spam masubi, otherwise this place was yummy.

Love this place. I have a weird obsession with Hawaiin Macaroni salad, I just can’t figure out what it is but this place has great Mac salad. Their BBQ combo box is my go-to lunch.

I am a regular here. The cook guy in the back is very nice. But his wife comes off as racist and rude. I came in one day and an old man asked if I was eating there or to go. I said here out loud. He said, «take a seat!» A lady took over at the register I ordered 2 spam musubi to eat there. I was joking around saying, «Yea the usual.» But she ignored it and just said, «Extra 50 cents charge because it’s under $ 5.» She took 10 minutes, which is normal. Though I sat there for 10 minutes and wasn’t even asked if I wanted water or anything. She came with my musubis in a brown lunch bag… Not even a plate. I started eating, and still no water. A white old customer came in and she greeted him right away and brought water to his table. She glanced at me… I still did not have water. I left feeling disappointed because this is usually where I go for lunch when I work. The next time I come in I will always order to go.

Best Hawaiian restaurant in town I’ve been here for quite a while and their food quality is consistent. Also the side order of katsu chicken is to die for(it’s only $ 2 but they’ll give you plenty). Just hope that they open earlier since I always get their spam musubi for my lunch whenever I go hiking. Would definitely recommended!!!

Wow, fantastic, delicious, scrumdiliumptious, appetizing… what more can I say! Great Hawaiian food! Don’t let the looks deceive you! This place is definitely a hole in the wall, but worth it! When we got here the place was packed and we had to wait for a table. We got lucky and only had to wait a few minutes. Family owned, buy Hawaiian family! Server was super friendly and welcoming! Definitely going to be a new regular place for us to stop!

Oh dang. Oh dang. This place is going to become a new staple for me. Spam and sushi rice and seaweed? All together? What mad genius came up with that? It’s utterly delicious. I’m going to get it every time. My first visit there, I got a combo of the mochiko chicken and the kalua pig. Awesome. What’s really good about them is that you won’t find them at the average teriyaki place or anything like that. My second visit I got the lau lau. Also utterly delicious. But the lady talking my order politely warned me that it was«different.» As if that would shoo me away! HA! Not a chance. That just made it that much more enticing. It was very rich. But I tend to like that sort of thing. It is very moist and, again, will have flavors you aren’t likely to run into at most other places. They give you good sized portions with everything. Two solid scoops of rice and(at least with the combos I got) a scoop of macaroni salad. It was both rich and kind of refreshing in a way. The coolness complemented everything else. Next up is the moco loco. Can’t wait for that one. Truth be told, I can’t wait to try several of their items. But Unilocalers, please believe me when I tell you that spam masubi aint to be missed.

What an amazing hole in the wall. The place doesn’t look like much from the outside or the inside but it’s a house of great food. We had the BBQ combo, the meat was juicy, full of flavor, like an atomic bomb of flavor and the portions were large enough to make a big guy like me full. Can’t wait to go back!

They are good foods but this is the 7th time they run out of short ribs. 11am run out of short ribs. They might as well shouldn’t put it on their menu. Service is ok this time. Not too friendly. Usually, the guy at the reception will subs the short ribs with their normal ribs for us if they are out. Today, this girl won’t do it. They should have called us back or let us know when we ordered over the phone, so we won’t waste our time coming in or be so disappointed. The whole purpose of calling in ahead of time to order take out is to save time and don’t have to stand to wait on foods, or to make their store too crowded. We ended up coming in, found out they are out of short ribs, took 5 mins for us to decide: oh hell, we already here, might just get something else and get out of here. So we did. Wasted another 10′ to wait on our foods. The lady even came out and asked us to stand on the side of the reception desk so it won’t be too crowded and they can monitor their customers. What? I’m sorry, but you caused this. You wasted our time and energy and your store is not big, where should we stand to wait on our foods??? We were pissed so we went to the car and waited in there. We were not happy. Sorry Hawaiian Sun, if this keeps happening, we won’t be coming back even though we are regular customers.

They offer an extensive menu of Hawaiian foods. I had to order the lau lau, which had pork fat, marinated pork, and butterfish wrapped in some sort of green leaves and steamed served with two scoops of white rice and a scoop of macaroni salad and with a side of spam musubi and their gau gee(fried pork dumplings). If you like crab Rangoon from American Chinese restaurants, you’ll understand the goodness of the crunchy wrapping. It comes with a side of sweet and sour sauce. Spam musubi was about the size of my hand and came in two inidivually wrapped rolls of spam, sushi rice and seaweed goodness with the egg. It is legit! The lau lau itself was kind of small, but I couldn’t finish the two scoops of white rice with it, but the meat wasn’t overly salty at all. They had run out of their marinated ribs which is their best seller. Two of my friends got the ox tail soup, which reminded me of phở(especially since it is made out of oxtail) but they used different spices, which I couldn’t put my finger on, but it was pretty filling and good. And of course, with the Hawaiian Sun name, they offer over ten types of the canned Hawaiian sun. I got the lilikoi(black can(, but they also had the green tea, mango orange, passion fruit and such. I definitely have to come back for their loco moco and ribs! Especially since most of the dishes are less than $ 10.

I would have never even known this place was there if it were not for Unilocal. I am not up to par on all Hawaiian food but this place fit the bill. I had the Mochiko chicken and then the pork katsu, bot very good. My sister in laws BF had the loco moco and raved at how good it was. It is a small place and the people are pretty friendly. I will be back soon to try other things on the menu.

My daughter looked this place up and asked if we could go. We made the trek and then had to wait a bit to get a table as it is very small — but it was well worth the wait. Felt like I was back in Makaha surrounded by the Hawaii to Seattle transplants and amazing food. We will definitely be back.

Who would have thought there would be a handful of Hawaiian restaurants in Western Washington? For your island fix, Hawaiian Sun is a great place to go. A small little restaurant located in a strip mall in Everett, they serve all your authentic Hawaiian fare and for VERY reasonable prices. From the mochiko chicken(deep fried garlic chicken goodness), to the short rib, to the loco moco, everything had a very ‘home cooked’ feel. There is no expectation for a fancy 5* meal, but there is an aloha spirit in this family run establishment! TIP: Unless you have a really big appetite, getting a ‘mini’ combo(a meat, one scoop of rice, one scoop of macaroni salad) is very filling. After all, that’s already two servings of carbs! =) And for less than $ 8 it’s a super value.

Coming from Maui there always those homesick days. Nothing brings me back home like the local hawaiian from hawaiian sun. The combo plates are da bomb giving you a chance to try all the good stuff. The seating in the whole place is about 28 and the staff bring the aloha with your meal. Don’t forget they have take out and catering

Haven’t updated this place in a while, this is by far the GOLD standard for Local Grinds… minus the Lau Lau, to me if you are not eating Lau Lau at a Luau on the islands or your Auntie’s place, forget about it… I actually wasn’t too hungry the last time we visited, I know, «oh da shock», so I opted for a cheeseburger and fries… broke da mouf ohno! Outstanding fries, nice cheap burger but with lots of stuff on it, nothing to complain about that! I have but few GOLD standards in life, and yup, this place is one of them!
