We have been coming to Taka Sushi for years…6 kiddos later, it’s become a family tradition to have their Birthday Dinner at Takas!!! Kids are just as obsessed as I am… their sauces beat out any other Sushi Restaurant in Sacramento, my opinion… The Ziggy Roll, The Double T, Teka Maki… Wakame Salad BOMB! Gyoza, BOMB… SEASAMECHICKEN Bomb!!! Love MY Taka, love my staff… sushi snob for sure!

Ugggh. went here becuase my husband wanted sushi for his 30th birthday dinner. We ordered our food and waited about an hour before we even got our Miso soup. Then it took another 20 minutes for them to bring the salads. THEN. ALMOST2HOURSLATER… our food finallly came… and it was ICECOLD. Most of the people we came with ordered dinner boxes with teriyaki chicken or steak. All of the meat was cold to the touch. My mothers chicken was still pink on the inside. In addtion. pretty sure it is not fresh chicken as all the slices looked uniform. Like its the precooked chicken you just heat and serve. If i could give this place 0 stars i would. Service was horrible and the food was disgusting. Maybe the sushi is better but i can only attest to our experience. What is even crazier is the two item dinner box is 20 bucks!!! 20 bucks for ice cold pink chicken??? When we told our server it was cold she asked if we wanted her to put it in the microwave for a few minutes!!! What!!! Unbelievable. Yeah. i want to pay 20 bucks for you to heat my food in the microwave!!! AVOID!!!

All around best Sushi in town. Prices a bit lower than Mikunis, but the quality is superb. I have eaten at Takas more than 75 times, and every time the fish tastes firm, fresh and clean(My fellow Unilocalers who explore sushi joints know how common it is to be served fish that tastes old or weird). Service is always spot-on, whether you order at the bar, booths or tables. The kitchen always hooks it up too, with the more common mixed tempura with crispy batter, or the more unusual but amazing hamachi kama. Bottom line– get Mikuni quality grub at a neighborhood joint location and price. I would award six stars if it was possible.

This place used to be good way back when it first opened. We hadn’t been here in several years but popped in one day for lunch. It was by far the worst sushi experience ever. First of all the décor is uninviting and the dining set up does not flow with very bad feng shui. The jazz music blasting throughout was so loud we couldn’t hear over it and had to ask if they could turn it down. And those chairs… are those from the old Mace’s Restaurant? Service was so slow and there were only two other tables to serve. Now the bad — the food was really, really bad. My husband ordered chicken teriyaki and it came out cold and he had to send it back. And his miso soup was so salty that he had to dilute it with water. I ordered the ziggy roll and it was mushy with minute pieces of soft shell crab. It tasted like a canned tuna fish sandwich. Wanting a taste of fish without all the mayo and other fillers the ziggy roll had, I ordered an order of yellowtail. It was not sushi quality! It was filled with connective tissue and was disgusting. I had to say something to the sushi chef. He offered to cut me two more pieces but I was so disgusted by the taste and texture of the first piece that all we wanted to do was to pay our bill and go. We will not be back.

You know, the owner of this place just can’t leave well enough, alone. I started coming here a few years ago… the sushi was pretty good, and there are a few things on the menu that are outstanding. But then they jacked the prices and cut the portions. Yep, THEYCUTTHEPORTIONS. And the prices continued to go up. So I only come here once in awhile. Now they pulled me back in by going half price on the rolls. That brought me back because it brought they’re pricing in line with other sushi bars. But now they’ve jacked the prices again… several times… on the rolls $ 3 or more each…$ 17 for a freakin’ role? WHATTHE %@#$? Obviously, the owner wants to make a killing. I’m not going to play the game any longer. It’s just not that good. Other places in the area don’t play games and offer a product just as good(or better) at a better price. Bye-bye Taka.

I came here with two of my friends for the half off sushi rolls. I was very excited to try a new sushi place close to me, but it turned out not impressing me. The staff is very friendly, the environment was great, and we sat at the sushi bar so the chef was funny and giving me a hard time all in good laugh. But like I said the food just didn’t impress me. First thing I noticed was how unique the rolls were. Almost like they are Americanized rolls with interesting added things. The spicy tuna is made spicy with house steak sauce so it was different, I didn’t mind it but my friend hated the way it tasted. and as far as selection goes only two roll combinations interested me. A friend of mine got yellowtail and something unique the chef did was use two huge globs of wasabi to hold the yellowtail on the rice. So my friend gagged and dyed when he got the huge glob in one of his bites. Like I said it didn’t impress me. I would come here again but I wouldn’t get sushi or recommended the sushi.

The fact that this restaurant only has 3.5 stars is a travesty. Best sushi restaurant of all time hands down.

Get the«Cindy Roll!» Everytime I change my order, I always wonder why I didn’t just go with what I know and go with the Cindy. Also, I’ve tried BBQ albacore everywhere else and it NEVER compares to Taka’s! Though their food is satisfactory, I do wish they’d invest in a restaurant makeover. Everything is mismatched, disorganized and gives the feeling that someone just purchased some old pieces of restartuant chairs/tables/counters from an auction warehouse and threw it together. The way the tables are separated is really strange too. It definitely needs some Feng Shui. I know that has nothing to do with the food and that is essentially what its all about, but its just that one thing I have to point out cause it sticks out like a sore thumb. Maybe I’m just hoping the owner will read this and take suit;)

If you have several hours to kill, go to this place. It might be faster for you to go fishing, go to the rice fields, learn how to make sushi on YouTube, go to the store to buy sushi making ingredients, take a nap, and then make your own sushi. Why the hell would you bring two rolls out and wait another 45 minutes to bring the rest? It’s been one hour, we are sitting here staring at our soggy sushi, and waiting for the rest of the sushi to come. Update– it’s been another 15 minutes and we’ve gotten one other roll out of the eight rolls we ordered. Soooo we are now contemplating ordering sushi from Japan, importing it into the US, getting it through customs, taking another nap, and the authentic Japanese sushi will probably get to our table faster than this. Really?!

The absolute best sushi I’ve ever had! Been a local for 17 years. Everything is good, consistent and fresh!

We always enjoy Taka’s and are here a few times each month. The service is great and the food is amazing. Our 10 year old nephew was introduced to sushi here and loves this place. Everyone we have ever brought here raves about it. The B.T.S. is very tasty and has great heat. The Ziggy is fresh and full of flavor and the Salmon Tostada is a great appetizer. Just ask for a chefs creation at the sushi bar and they will not disappoint. A truly great sushi restaurant… the best in the area in my opinion.

I stand by my original review, but will add a few more observations. Yes, the service seemed a bit slower than I am used to, but then again this is not a churn-and-burn sushi restaurant a la Mikuni that likes to keep checking on you every 10 seconds until you get the hint and get the hell out. Here it is more laid back and slower, which makes it a great spot for a date or catching up on conversation with friends. You will not be rushed out. Also. back in the day Takas had a member/vip program that gave its regulars 10% off the bill. That apparently went by the wayside(what, no email?) but they replaced it with half off/discounts off most rolls. Either way, I have yet to taste fresher fish in any one of the numerous sushi restaurants in and around Sacramento. ***Try the BBQ Albacore appetizer and the Scallop Royale roll(secret menu) ***

I driven by here about 20 times on my way through the area and had to stop by so I decided to take a couple friends also. I ordered like I haven’t ate in a couple days, but that’s almost everyday when you want to try everything. from Philly rolls to spicy tuna and chicken katsu. I also ordered something else deep fried, forgot the name but it was also good. Only half a mile away from home to!

I’m a die hard Mukunis fan but decided to I’ve this a try because I was in the area. I had my one year old grandson with me. The server was SO accommodating with a baby in the group. I had the sea steak, tuna and a roll. I enjoyed everything! They also give you a complimentary cucumber salad when you sit down. My grandson are 3 of them. They were very generous. I would definitely come back here. Good little neighborhood spot in Fair Oaks.

Excellent service and great sushi. Three of us shared: California Roll, Fair Oaks Roll, Shelly, Colleen and one more. We liked them all!

This place is beat up. They served us with dirty dishes.lol. but any way, we ordered 3 rolls. I ordered the Coleen. And it was dry as a bone. The sauce was so skimpy, little drips. Plus it was all salty. That was different. Nvr tasted salt sushi. So the service was lousy, two waitresses for the whole place. Ours was the dark haired one. Not the blonde. She must hate her job. And people. Price wasnt terrible, u get what u pay for.

I brought my family here the other night. It was around 8:30pm on a Wednesday. It was empty. We had to wait to be seated, it took a few minutes. We got seated by a woman waitress. She seemed to have an attitude and she didn’t ask us if we wanted water. We were sitting 10 minutes before I had to flag her down. She brought the waters back with no straws. and then again disappeared. We finally decided what we wanted to order. We ordered four rolls and green tea ice cream. The rolls were SUPER dry and all of the rolls basically tasted the same, they had NO extra sauce on them. The sauce was very sparse. All around TERRIBLE quality. I will DEFINITELY not be returning do to lack of customer service and the quality of the food. Also on the menu, prices are labeled really weird so watch out for that. Save yourself the money and go to Mikuni’s or Toyko Fros!

My husband and I happened to be in Almond Orchard Plaza and hungry. He saw this place and said, «Hey, how about sushi?» But it was more a joke because A.) I’m not as into sushi as he is. B.) I’m not generally so spontaneous that I will agree to a random place. And C.) Stopping at a sit-down place where we don’t know the prices is not in our normal budget. But I was feeling good, having just scored some great deals and fit into a size small dress on my shopping trip. So to my husband’s surprise, I said, «Alright.» We settled into a comfortable table and perused varied menu choices. After much debate, we settled on the Ziggy Temaki(deep fried soft shell crab, apple, avo, massago, scallions mixed w/ziggy sauce) and Double Crabby(Snow crab mix, shrimp tempura, cumber topped with crab legs, avo, scallions and massago). Both were good, although I preferred the Ziggy for the sauce. My husband thought the Double Crabby was perfect without anything added to it, but I found it a bit dry on its own. Since I’m lactose-intolerant, we went with the Cinnamon Apple Rolls for dessert, which comes with greet tea ice cream on the side. I could eat like three plates of those things, no joke. I thought the bill was a bit high for the small amount of food ordered and the service could have been a little faster at times, but our server was super friendly and the place looked nice. I would definitely come back, but probably with a coupon.

When my brother suggested this place for happy hour but said that I wouldn’t be impressed, that basically said it all for me. Happy hour consisted of BBQ salmon, fake crab california rolls, a less than spicy tuna roll, and okay tempura. He liked his salmon sashimi though, and though the price was right, the quality was lacking. The waitress was really enthusiastic and seemed to love her job which was a plus. But with all the good Japanese restaurants in Sacramento… why are we here?

I normally love this restaurant; the food is consistently fresh, tasty & the people who work there are usually very friendly & accommodating. I love also that I can usually find a great Groupon for a nice date night with my hubby. With that said… my husband & I went there for dinner the other night & I asked for a vegetable roll without rice. Usually, the chefs are accommodating but the owner was working & to make my riceless roll, he was going to charge me an additional $ 10 because it is difficult. I asked if he could make a hand roll, use a soy wrap or any other option that would make it easier & he insisted I pay an additional $ 10; $ 15 for asparagus, apple, sprouts & avocado. It would be one thing if it was an employee but the owner himself didn’t seem too concerned about taking care of us or offering solutions. I’ve been a happy customer for almost 10 years but I think I’ll invest into a sushi restaurant that appreciates their customers a little more.
