Great Portuguese food with large portions for a decent price. Unlike many Portuguese restaurants in the area the noise level was quite normal and you could actually hear your dinner companions.

As excited as I was to finally try the new Sagres, I was sadly disappointed… We waited for a while for party of 2 when we were told there were no tables due to some being taken that were reserved… As soon as we sat down, the so called reserved table for party of 4 were all of a sudden split up and opened to the next 2 parties of two’s … Our waiter was not the greatest, I had to ask for the specials, not attentive like other waiters/waitresses that we notice, he served us bread with unwrapped butter that was used prior to us, I was disappointed with the famous portuguese cappacino that was only ½ cup filled with barely whip cream or cinnamon … needless to say, the bill was more than it should’ve of been, pricey… I won’t be coming back, I’ve had better!

Back to Sagres after several months. Tuesdays one of the several specials is grilled pulvo(octopus) that we drove down to Fall River from Boston to have for lunch. Absolutely delicious, extremely generous portion and cooked perfectly. My husband and I just returned from several weeks in Greece where grilled octopus is very popular and the dish at Sagres beat all the Greek versions by a mile! If you don’t love octopus, there is a large menu with numerous classic Portuguese fish and meat dishes, starters and more. The food is always very, very good no matter what you choose. Tastes like Portugal! Very nice wine list, cocktails, nice Portuguese beers. My only suggestion: it would be great to have a nice, basic Portuguese red or white in half liter or liter carafe sizes. Or more of a choice of half bottles for folks who prefer not to drink an entire bottle of wine for lunch(or dinner). Minor criticism. This is a wonderful restaurant and the new building is lovely.

After more than a year of the new Sagres being opened everything continues soar to to new levels. The menu introduces new and exciting dishes, the new décor is beautiful, the waitstaff is the best and Victor is not just the consummate restaurant host, he is as entertaining as hey come. While Victor is a true star, the food and the chefs are the reason you look forward to your next meal here. Every meal must start with goat cheese and red peppers and a Mozambique dish, both the shrimp or scallops are tremendous. Just the right spice and you will need more bread to soak up the sauce long after the shrimp has been finished. For entrees there are so many amazing options to choose from you need only ask what the specials are and you will have four or five amazing options each day. On Tuesdays the grilled octopus is out of this world. The Dakota steak is a new addition and a tender, tasty piece of meat. Additions such as pork chop with apple and steak on a skewer as well as the traditional Portuguese preparation of chicken and fish dishes are reasons that Sagres is still reaching new heights.

Went for dinner last nite w a group– everything we ordered was excellent I shared a shrimp Mozambique appetizer– lots of tasty shrimp and spicy sauce for bread dipping! The paella was so good-brimming w lobster, shrimp, fish scallops and little necks– yum! The steak — Portuguese style — with veggies and home made chips looked And tasted awesome. The pork-little neck and potato dish was delicious All of the dishes could have fed 3 people! The newly done over restaurant is beautiful. The tiled scene behind the bar is gorgeous. Also beer and wine selection and service excellent. So good and price reasonable! It’s unfortunate that it is so difficult to get in and out of Fall River– we’d be there more often.

AS far as Portuguese food goes this is really the best local restaurant. Variety of dishes and specials such as goat or tripe are fun!!! The food is not overly salted and cooked with a variety of spices. We love the fish Antonio grilled with Fresh!!! yes i said Fresh steamed veggies. There was zucchini, carrot and green beans in my mix. A healthy dish in a restaurant which is hard to find!!! Wine list is extremely reasonable and good quality regional wines from Portugal.

Took my Portuguese bride to Sagres for her birthday and the service is excellent. It’s the type of service I’ve come to expect from a much higher priced restaurant. No matter what you order, you will be happy. The meat is fresh and flavorful. The sauces are unbelievable. Even the sides are great. I had ordered a steak special and it was honestly one of the best meals I’ve had out in far too long. The wife got a pork special that I think was even better. The house red wine was very complimentary. Everything was simple, flavorful, and delicious. We look forward to coming back again and again.

This place has been reborn! After the fire I was sad to lose such a great Fall River landmark. I finally had the chance to check out the new place and it was amazing to see the transformation. Gone are the days of looking like a social club! This is new from the ground up, a little tacky by a nice job. I never go to a place for the décor so lets talk about the food. I live in East Providence, so why would I drive to Fall River for Portuguese… first the Mozambique sauce is hands down the best I have had. My wife orders the bacalhau(Salted Cod) here because its better then any where else. I always get a steak and had the beef shoulder special, cooked in garlic and red wine, it’s Portuguese nuff said. Bring your love for rich sauces and excellent attention to detail. I high recommend Sagres if your looking for Portuguese tonight!

The family was down in the New Bedford area for a sporting event and we had heard about Sagres from friends, so we thought we would check it out. Restaurant is new construction after a fire several years ago and is beautiful. Staff is warm, friendly, and seated us promptly. Menu selection is great including a healthy amount of specials. We started with the fresh homemade goat cheese, fried calamari and shrimp sautéed is wine, tomatoes and garlic. All were fresh, delicious and healthy in portion size. The family made short work of these,(three teenage boys)! From there we had several jumbo shrimp screens over rice and vegetables, fresh salmon grilled perfectly with rice and vegetables, halibut special also grilled with rice and salad and last but not least a seafood dish(half lobster, shrimp, scallops, calamari, little necks and cod in a bouillabaisse broth/sauce. Fantastic flavors and you could taste the freshness of the seafood! Throughout the meal, there was an abundance of bread for dipping in the various sauces and we took the liberty to do so. Excellent wine and alcoholic beverage selection as well as soft drinks from the US and Portugal. Finished the meal with coffee and two deserts. Flan and tiramisu. Both were made in house and were great! Cannot say a bad thing about the restaurant other than we ate too much!!! Prices were extremely reasonable for the quality and quantity of food and again the service was stellar! Sagres is located in a family neighborhood section of New Bedford and parking is limited. Reservations are a must since the place is always packed,(after speaking with several regulars). We are looking for an excuse to go back down outside or Easter week so that we can try some of the extensive meat, pork and chicken dishes as well!

Everything I had was so delicious. Server seemed like he didn’t want to be there at all, and didn’t ask us how everything was until we were finished eating. I would give 5 starts if the service was a little better, but it’s worth dealing with for their delicious food.

Visited here last month with my parents. My review is mixed because the experience was mixed. We arrived on a weekday at 4pm. The host scoffed at us for not having a reservation. The place was empty? Our waitress couldn’t tell my dad the difference in two different steaks… size or how they were cooked. He suggested she ask the chef. She came back with only partial answers… we were almost embarrassed for her ditziness. Although the place was empty, we waited forever for our food. Thank goodness for the sangria pitcher. Both parents ordered a steak(different ones) and both were happy. I ordered a pork dish(alajandra or something…) and it was awesome! We all ordered desert. Dad got cheesecake. I had the bean desert, and mom got a custard Dish. Hers was the only one worth raving about. The vibe/décor were on point but due to high prices, a very lacking waitress and being scoffed at for no ressies… well, we don’t plan to go back. Plenty of other great Portuguese resteraunts in the area.

I had a group of 9, we made a reservation for 8:30pm on a Saturday night. We arrived at 8:20pm and hung out by the bar. Drinks were very fairly priced and bartenders were great. Around 8:45pm our hungry group started to get antsy so the waiter kindly brought us some Portuguese bread which made everyone happy :) Our food came quickly and our waiter did great. Every dish ordered was very delicious! I had the Paella and it was so amazing. Even the chicken in the dish was tasty! The Steak was a popular dish at our table and the sangria was great. Very good experience(outside of the wait). We left around 11pm. Thanks!

The only reason for 4 stars is due to the wait we had, which I know sometimes isn’t entirely the restaurants fault, but we did have a reservation for 8:30pm and didn’t get sat until almost 9pm; and mind you we ever arrived early/on time for the reservation. We were at least able to hang around the bar area, where the bar tender was extremely nice, and then as our large group [there were 9 of us] started to get a little ‘hangry’, they brought us over Portuguese rolls to hold us over. Once we were sat they were able to take our orders and turn the food around rather quickly… The food was absolutely amazing. Not one person was disappointed with their meal. I actually think there was a few moments where no one spoke a word as we dug in. It was mostly murmers of «this is amazing» «this steak is cooked perfectly» «the seasoning is right on» I ordered one of the steak entrees, which was cooked to perfection and had SO much flavor to it and also had the fresh goat cheese. I’m a huge goat cheese fan, and the table even agreed with me– this was the BEST goat cheese they’d ever had. I will definitely be back for that again. The portions were HUGE, so be wary when ordering appetizers/saving room for dessert. Our waiter was great and very accommodating to such a large group; and was extremely friendly. The atmosphere was amazing, and the décor makes the dinner very intimate whether with a large group of friends like we had, or for a romantic dinner. The place was extremely clean. It was a great experience, that we’re all wondering when we should plan another trip back! :)

One of the best restaurants in Fall River, hands down! They take great pride in serving nice big, beautiful portions of what makes Portuguese food great! Parking can be tricky but you will feel like family once you sit down.

Yummy!!! They have the the best Shrimp Mozambique! Always happy with our food! The waitstaff is friendly. Would have given 5 stars but we find the Manager to be very unfriendly, rude even… Hard to get a table… Impossible parking… And, their Sangria is lousy :(

Came here for dinner on a Saturday evening with the family. Interior is stunning, nicely done, and has a warm feeling. Service was excellent, we made reservations and there was no wait to be seated. Food was outstanding!!! We choose the little necks with olive oil and garlic for our appetizer. It was so tasty and delicious! I choose the traditional Portuguese steak sirloin. It was cooked properly(medium rare) and was great! Overall, entire experience was great. Nice to see their return back since the fire is strong. Awesome stuff Sagres! Thank you.

So the descriptor with 2 stars says I’ve experienced better. In this case it it very true. Since the re-opening the prices have gone up. But the service and quality I think sometimes are in the opposite direction. There were 4 of us that decided to eat there this past Saturday evening. We made the decision around 2 pm and called for a reservation, we were hoping for 7 they told us 8. We figured with Christmas shopping and stuff that wasn’t all that bad. We were there at 7:50 and there were people with 7:30 reservations that had not been seated. There were a couple of groups of 4 or 5 that walked in and joined other people that were seated at tables. Not sure what the original time was for their reservation or how they were seated with only part of the party there? When we did go in for more than 10 minutes there was no one at the door. Someone else waiting pointed out the man that was in charge they said. He was running around crazy, clearing tables, serving food? If there are the right number of bus staff and wait staff that should almost take care of itself. After speaking to the gentleman he did give us the option to sit at the bar, we went to the bar we did get 2 seats but we were a little upset that almost everyone there was also waiting for a table? We didnt know if they had reservations or not. Yah it is a busy time of year, but this place just seemed to be poorly managed? Also if they devoted less space to a bar(like the older Sagres) and had a few more tables? We were finally seated at 8:45? There are plenty of places in Fall River that you can walk in off the street with no reservation and be seated in the same or less time. Many of those other places serve food that is just as authentic, well prepared and similar or lower price. Our waiter was great. The food is good, the menu a little bit limited and it has become a little more pricey. When the waiter heard of the reservation time and seating time he apologized, the guy at the door didn’t I think he figures we didn’t leave so he got our money? But that was the last time! Sure there’s still a line at the door but at some point if the price and service don’t add up the customers do go away.

Probably the best and may be the oldest Portuguese restaurant in Fall River with the cuisine it can’t be beat. Price is right and the entertainment exquisite.

I am in love with Sagres! The renovation is absolutely stunning! I honestly forgot that it ever caught fire. They have to serve the best Portuguese food in all of The Riv. My family went there last month to celebrate my older brother’s birthday and we all loved it. It was a busy, busy Friday night and they handled the crowd so very well. I’m so glad they’re thriving the way they are. I loooove Portuguese steak and they honestly cooked mine to perfection. Hands down the best steak I have ever had. Their sangria is so good, too! The orange slices they add to it make it so delicious. I could go on for days about how wonderful Sagres is!

Wow is my first word. I really looked into this before coming in cause I was in the area. Absolutely delicious. I came in 2 minutes before the kitchen closed when I heard the hours I insisted on leaving. They sat me anyway and told my I had time and not to worry. Great service, beautiful and complex enviorment. My server was a man named Matthew, very professional and I overlooked him talking to another table, great server. This guy knows what he is doing! If you come here I even suggest you request him! Beautiful restaurant and best shrimp mozz I’ve had in a while! Very impressed

Sagres restaurant has a number of really fine aspects. The newly renovated space has a beautiful ambiance and interior décor. The table service was top grade — the owner came and talked to us and gave us wine on the house. I give it 4 instead of 5 because the food wasn’t as fabulous as many people tend to rate it. I thought it was just okay, perhaps I’m not big fan of portuguese food afterall, though I reserve judgement until I try it again somewhere else. At Sagres, I found the food a bit bland and lacking in flavor, but good enough to get 4 stars.

On a low key Sunday, my husband and I decided to visit Fall River, Mass to explore the amazing Portuguese heritage in the area(also because we’re suckers for fresh seafood and chorizo). We attempted to visit the acclaimed Portugalia(a highly rated local market) but unfortunately got there too late on a Sunday. Fortunately, Sagres was open for reservations and we jumped on the chance to visit this local treasure. As we were walking in, we ran into a couple diners leaving, and we asked how their dinner was. With huge smiles on their faces, they said it was amazing, and it was their first time back since the place burned down. Burned down? I would have had no idea. Everything was fresh and updated and seemed liked it was always that way. First impression after sitting down: It’s always a good sign when you visit a restaurant and the parties on either side of you are speaking Portuguese to the waitstaff :). This was a true Portuguese community with a strong sense of family. The menu was straight forward with tons of seafood, chorizo, beef and pork. Little neck clams are a spotlighted ingredient on many of the dishes. We opted for paella. Just look at the pictures. It’s huge and jam packet with shrimp, scallops, clams, chicken, calamari, chorizo, and what seemed to be a half lobster. It was not dry with a crust like many paellas, but more of the juicy deep dish variety. The broth on its own was amazing, and a perfect complement to the Portuguese bread on the table. We ended up having enough to take home for dinner the next night, and the flavors may have been even better then! Thanks for the great dinner, Sagres. We may make another drive soon to get more paella to bing home to Connecticut :)
