The best burgers and beer in downtown Fargo ! Service was good and the beer cold! Will go back again when in Fargo!

I absolutely love their burgers. They have a variety of different types of burger as well, none are too exotic though.
And then there’s the beer. If you like beer, this is the place for you. They have many different beers on tap and they rotate them around occasionally.
It doesn’t get much better than burgers and beer.

Decent burgers and fries. Not the best, but I’d have to drive to Superior, Wisconsin’s Anchor Bar for the best burgers and fries in the world, :)

Had the JL Burger. It was so good I just ordered another to go. Small joint, but certainly an awesome atmosphere. Looked to have quite a few beers on tap, too. Will defiantly be back!

The absolutely Best hamburgers and hand cut fries fries and potato chips I’ve ever had. Absolutely delicious and the service was great too!

By far my favorite restaurant in the FM area. Fantastic burgers, chips, and beer selection. Gotta try the hot beer cheese dip with chips, its awesome!!!

When I first heard, several years ago, that two experienced downtown Fargo bar/​restaurant owners intended top open a burger and beer place, and name it after Jim Lauerman, I was skeptical. Wasn’t the burger segment saturated? What possibly could be new?
But I was wrong, and several dozen visits later, must give JL Beers the respect they deserve.
Tonight’s visit, like every visit… fast service, cold menu items cold, hot menu items hot, tasty, in and out in 25 minutes. The new Jalapeño Burger is my new favorite, but it’s like choosing your favorite child, there are to many good options to focus on one.
Great atmosphere, and gradually adding more local beers. JL Beers is heads and shoulders above other quick burger options.

Very good selection of beers on tap.
Hamburgers good, fries great.
Pleasant place to watch sports.
Menu is limited. Burger and fries, not much else.
Be forewarned it is a small place. A few tables and the bar. If you wonder in with a large group, may not find a place to sit together.

Fantastic beer and burger joint with great service and awesome prices! Lots of beers to choose from and same for the burgers, which you can also customize with cheap add ons. This was my first time to Fargo and saw JL’s on Unilocal and close to my hotel. If I ever come back, I’ll definitely make another stop here!

I don’t even like beer, but I was there with a friend who wanted one. The very sweet, recently college graduated bartender was determined to find one I liked. He asked me what sorts of flavors I like, in regular food and in booze. He brought some very interesting samples that IF I were a beer drinker, would have liked. I almost liked them. 4 stars for the place, the 5^th because the service was so incredibly awesome and the place was fun.

I had a bean burger and it was SO good. Myself and my co workers came here looking for a spot to hangout and just enjoy ourselves. I love that they allow you to sample the beers before purchasing one and that they offer larger samples as well. The staff was so friendly and amazing and if I’m ever in Fargo again I’m heading right back here!

Perfect place to go when in Fargo! First of all the entire downtown area of Fargo is amazing. So clean and just a great place to visit. But, JL Beers, though it may be small, it is the most fun you can have in one sitting. The burgers are delicious and so cheap! They have plenty of great beer choices and lots of goodies to purchase. The best part though is their BEER MAIL. I won’t go into detail. Just ask about it.

It’s rare for me to go for a burger, but when I do, I go for a JL Beers burger. They have absolutely fantastic food. Their burgers are amazing and their fries are too good to be true. Great root beer. I’d suggest their mushroom burger.

Stopped here for lunch on a Sunday while in Fargo for one night. This is a small place with friendly staff and good burgers and fries. We shared a burger and loaded fries and they were nice enough to split it and put it on two separate plates without us having to ask. I found the burger a tad too salty, but it might just be me since I don’t like very salty foods. They also have an excellent beer selection. Another interesting thing they do here is that they give you postcards which you can fill out to anyone and they will put a stamp on it and mail it for you! We filled out two to send to my son at overnight camp. I thought that was a really nice touch!

We stopped here for lunch before dropping my brother off at the Fargo Airport and heading back to Ohio. The place was clean, but pretty tiny. Luckily, it was not very crowded on a Saturday afternoon so we got seats at the bar — the tables were all filled (grated there were maybe 3 or 4, I can’t remember).
The menu is pretty basic. Burgers, fries, sauces. I got the Humpty Dumpty burger — burger with a fried egg and cheese. And that was literally it. To get anything like lettuce or tomato on it cost money. Now I get the idea, but I wanted an egg and vegetables on my burger and the only way to do that was to pay more. I think charging for lettuce and tomato is a bit of a stretch — maybe an egg or mushrooms, extras like that. Or maybe I’m a traditionalist, who knows.
Either way, the burgers came out quickly, it was good, but it definitely needed more. I also got the fresh hand-​cut fries, and those were definitely tasty. My brother got the fresh chips which were also really good. I honestly don’t remember the burgers he or the husband got but they both seemed to enjoy it.
So why the three stars? I don’t know, maybe it was end of vacation blues, or tiredness or what, but this place just wasn’t really up my alley. If I want a burger I want a big juicy burger with lots of toppings — so if that’s what you like, I wouldn’t recommend this place. If you like the diner/​slider style burger with minimal toppings, this is your place. I do wish I had felt up to having a beer because the selection seemed pretty okay and it is probably a nice hangout to have a beer and chat with a friend.
Oh also, the music was really good.

If your looking for a burger this is your place. Just about all the burgers came out in less than 5 minutes. They cook them up at the end of the bar. These are sliders.
The place is small but setup in way that fosters interaction and hopefully community. It is not all about the ‘sports game’. There is ample seating though. May not be suitable for large groups.
The ‘Beer Mail’ is really great. If your coming in and don’t know your way around these make for fun ice breakers. To help you settle in. I loved how this instantly separated this bar from others.
Service was less than 1 minute despite being busy. With three bartenders on hand the mood was relaxed and pleasant. When I engaged the bartenders they appeared to be happy to strike up small talk.
Nice to see the bar owner keeping his/​her business well stocked with staff.
If it was not for the young man who sat next to me coughing all over the place I would have stayed longer.
Would certainly hi back. Good fun to be had here.

Not a lot of seating, so it’s always full. Nothing Vegan except the fries. But the fries are good (cajun and bbq seasoning combination) and they have a lot of different beers on tap.

Again drinking good beer in an air conditioned bar and watching The Twins winning. Beginning of a nasty trend? Look around downtown and come here before your next stop.
