Clarion Hotel

I would definitely recommend this hotel, it was nice and I really didn’t have any complaints. But here are a list of Pros & a few Cons I took note of.
Pros:
1.) Tons of outlets, which I appreciate! — outlets in each lamp, so you don’t have to reach behind any furniture, giving you easy access to your phone! There was a nightstand on each side of the bed, with a lamp, so an outlet per person, and two outlets on the lamp on the desk.
2.) Delicious, Hearty FREE Breakfast: Scrambled eggs, bagels w/​cream cheese, waffle mix (regular & chocolate chip), sausage, oatmeal, biscuits and gravy, cereal, coffee, juice, etc.
But it ends kind of early… 9:30 am on weekdays. But the staff doesn’t kick you out and start packing everything up on the dot or early like some hotels, so I always snuck in at 9:25, grabs some eggs and coffee, and left.
3.) Extremely friendly staff — as I mentioned they weren’t kicking people out of the breakfast area, and even asked me if I wanted any of the muffins before they put them away just to be sure. :) Awesome, awesome staff.
4.) Good water pressure and hot shower, huge bathroom counter, lots of space!
5.) Great locations, endless amounts of stores nearby for shopping/​snacks/​dinner. (Target is a 2 min drive away:)
Only Downsides:
1.) The bed really hurt my back after the second night, but it could just be me, maybe it was too soft. BUT our room had a pull-​out couch, which did not hurt my back, so I slept there on our last night
1.) The TV was on a tall cupboard in front of the couch, so it’s not in a great place if both people want to watch the TV in bed. But it was nice to have options.

Tried to save pennies. Ended up loosing dollars.
The hotel by itself was above average, did not stay long enough to experience the breakfast and other aminities.
But. They mislead me of complementary airport shuttle. I called the hotel before booking through Expedia. If they have airport shuttle, they said yes. I asked if there is a fee, they said no. So I booked.
When I went there I requested for the shuttle she was so glad to give me a number to fix a timing. I asked «it free correct??» (again). She said of course it’s complementary.
Next day morning the guy picked me up and dropped in the airport and he asking me 40 bucks. I called the hotel back again a different guy spoke, said «no sir you have to pay him»
This is not right. As I had no time to fight it there I just paid that guy and left.

Visiting family in Federal Way, this hotel is nicely very close to the transit center, which made it a breeze to go see family in another area as well as check out Seattle with one express bus. It’s also situated pretty close to a lot of food places, the mall, and a Walmart, so it was easy to get out and explore the area.
The hotel room was very nice and clean, with a fridge and microwave available. And the staff were very friendly on check in and check out. They even had cookies at the front desk!
The best part of the stay was the complimentary breakfast! On check-​in, they mentioned they had «real» eggs. But seeing it for ourselves, the first day included eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, bagels, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, waffle makers, fruit, pastries, whipped cream, and juices! The next day, they swapped the bacon with Canadian bacon and the pancakes with French toast. And the last day, they brought back bacon and swapped the French toast with biscuits and gravy.
The AC unit says it’s controlled by a wall thermostat, but it didn’t work. The staff came to check it and ended up moving us to another room where AC worked. We found that it cooled the room, but it wouldn’t stop, even when the wall thermostat was set to 85 (the panel wouldn’t work either). So the staff moved us to our original room saying they found that the AC wasn’t connected correctly before. The wall thermostat still didn’t work, but they got the panel working on the unit, and that worked well for our 3-​night stay.
In both rooms we tried, the bathtub was super squeaky, which was kind of annoying.
Overall, it’s a nice hotel and I’ll definitely stay here again next time we visit family!

If there was a less than one they would receive it. I don’t take these reviews lightly so heed my warning. Guard your credit cards and assume no privacy to personal information or space while on their property. I travel about 50 percent of the year so I stay in a lot of four star accommodations this is far from one. Clarion should be ashamed and I will be contacting there corporate offices. I normally would not spend the effort to write such a lengthy review had it not be so incredibly outrageous and sickingly comical.
I was booked here by a new employer. Otherwise I would have seen the negative reviews below and not taken a chance. My room was dirty and had a horrible smell as listed by many people on several review sites. Mine turned out to be a McDonald’s moldy cup of something partly brownish. It smelled like stale cigar and rotten something with a strong hint of mildew that was worsened when turning in the ac. The entire hotel had a mildew smell. It happens in wet climates and it was unusually hot during my visit. Since the windows were screwed shut obviously not aired out and no smell of cleaning product what so ever. I became ill and have been sick for last two weeks since leaving this lovely place. When I turned the ac on the tattered and ratty drapes were blowing what I assume was a ball of dust and the smell even more into the room. I tried spraying perfume, a little Gucci bamboo and a deodorizer, it didn’t work. Other guests were complaining outside so changing rooms seemed pointless.
Since it was a new job I opted to not make a huge deal for a short stay and opted to not sleep on dirty sheets. I asked to be sent sent home early to get out of that hotel without making a big deal of it since apparently our travel booking person and these people are friends. I wiped everything down and stayed out of the room as much as possible all the way until every store in the mall closed, lol. Most of the below calamity occurred while I was on board a flight home.
These horrible unprofessional people then accused me of smoking in the room and causing the rancid smell. They accused me of «refusing» to give them my phone number upon Check in, as told my to my NEW employer, yet I gladly handed over my personal credit card without question. Hmmm that makes complete sense doesn’t it? They contacted my new employer sometime after I checked out, even though they had no right too, took my new boss on a tour of the room. THEY had my credit card and we’re just charging away. Their defense being my employer made the reservation therefore they had right to enter and inspect my room!!! They completely humiliated me by bringing 3 people from new job to tour their disgusting room, which I didn’t sleep in the bed and took out their garbage, so other then some towels in the tub they had stated was destroyed or ransacked. He must have practiced with his dollar store store thesaurus I kid you not these were the colorful words he was trying so desperately to use appropriately. I didn’t put their tv in my carry on not sure what I stole or ransacked. They, and I quote, «viamintly» stated they had never ever had a complaint of any type from any of their guests of odors or rooms not clean. Really??? Obviously a complete lie as seen throughout these reviews. I am sure that I must have coheresed people to write. They charged my credit card a total of 844.00 at one point… For two nights. That is now down to $ 304 at this point I am assuming subject to change for an unknown period of time. Lol.
When I called to discuss this with manager he raised his voice at me as if I was child and stated he has absolutely never heard that his hotel has an odor problem, that my room was something he never experienced before. It was an incredible dramatic and Oscar worthy performance I literally was speechless listening to him. I quote again «never» had anyone complained in his hotel. Apparently he is not only unable to count, he has a literacy problem and a memory issue. He of course told my employer I yelled at him. I don’t yell at anyone ever so apparently asking questions is not allowed, so don’t do that. After admitting he had absolutely no right to do what he did he then insisted my employer insisted on the entourage to investigate this crime of the Century. My dissidence upset him so HE THEN added a charge of theft of some un-​listed hotel property to the bill. I BELIEVE HE DID AT ONE POINT STATE I HAD DAMAGED A WASH CLOTH by wiping down his tables and bleeding on it when my finger was crushed by the door and bellman rack. Not sure what else he accused me of stealing since I went and purchased my own shampoo, maybe they charge for looking at the bottle. I believe this would be Darrell, the manager. So be careful not insult his establishment. Hell hath no fury like a hospitality manager scorned. And oh yes there was more Darrel continued to add to his story??? To contact my employer again,

Enjoyed our stay here for 3 adults and a kid. Room was nice and clean. Staff, lobby, and breakfast was pleasant. Would definitely stay at this chain again.

I was displaced from my apartment after renovations on the property caused a reaction and endangered my health so I had to find a place to stay close by that was not a cracktell, close to home, that also doesn’t use a ton of deoderizers. Not only is this Comfort Inn one of the more comfortable hotels between Tacoma and Tukwila, but their policy is to try and use inert cleaning products with no scents. For me this is HEAVEN! I have such bad allergies to so many different cleaning products and deodorizers it’s hard to find anywhere I can stay. 100% recommend this place for persons with chemical sensitivities and alergies. It won’t work for everyone, but it’s worth a try if you are looking for a clean comfortable non scented place to stay.
Their room service was awesome. Staff was a joy and a pleasure. Pool, workout room, and laundromat was spotless and very comfortable and easy to use. They hot breakfast in the morning was delicious with a good variety of protein, dairy, fruits, juices, breads, cerial, muffins, waffles, pastries… it’s very satisfying.
I can’t say enough wonderful things about Jessica. She was on of the kindest understanding persons I’ve dealt with in a while. I try very hard to keep my allergies my problem so it does not effect those around me even though it is at times potentially deadly for me. She put my mind at rest and made sure I had peace during my stay. Thank you again.

I stayed here from December 20^th through December 22^nd with my mom because we wanted to come up and visit my grandma. From the outside, the hotel is definitely nothing fancy, but the interior is pretty up-​to-​date, like they remodeled a few years back. We stayed on the first floor in room 111. I read some reviews on this hotel while I was staying here and saw some people complain about bed bugs and a weird smell in the hotel but my mom and I had no problems. It had a typical clean hotel smell which I personally like (Am I weird? Haha). Everything seemed pretty clean and tidy. When we came back in the afternoons/​evenings, our room was tidied up by housecleaning. Our stay was comfortable and I’d come back to this hotel the next time I’m up here.

I come here for Mixers Lounge when the Broncos are playing. Its a Meetup spot for Broncos fans on the south end of town.

Delicious breakfast. Eggs, potatoes, sausage, waffles, bagels, etc. The staff was so friendly and the room was spacious and clean.

My house caught on fire last year and the insurance paid for us to stay here for a month before we got a rental house. The customer service was always friendly and helpful. They had a gym and continental breakfast every morning that had a variety of good food. The wifi and internet connection was perfect. The room was cleaned every morning. My girlfriend and I enjoyed staying here. Plus our room had a jacuzzi which was an added bonus to our stay.

Bottom line: For the cheapest hotel in Federal Way, it’s a decent value and a pretty solid stay if you have the right expectations.
The room had an odor… not a foul one, but it smelled like years and years of masking agents built up. It didn’t bother me but might bother others. No hint of any foul odor like smoke or anything.
I had no issues with bed bugs, pests, dirty towels, etc. etc… the room was clean but the only thing that was a red flag was a paid of clean folded black women’s socks left on the couch. They were easy to miss, but left me wondering. I had no issues.
Comfortable bed, OK TV, and a selection of pillows… so I didn’t have to sleep on some massive lump like most hotels have!
Breakfast was on par for hotel hot breakfasts. Scrambled eggs, a different meat each day, and waffle makers in addition to your normal continental assortment.
They are doing LOTS of remodeling right now and it will probably be nice when it’s done.
Wi-​FI was spotty at times but mostly worked well. Free, thank goodness.
I left thinking three stars… and then I got about 10 minutes away and somebody called me to tell me I left a shirt hanging in the closet. AMAZING! I’ve never had a hotel call me EVER when I’ve left things behind!!! That earned the fourth star. Thank you Federal Way Clarion!!!

Stayed two nights here. We booked a room for four people, and the room’s second bed turned out to be a pull out couch. It was literally the most aweful thing I have ever slept on. It felt like sleeping on a box spring and when I woke up after a horrible night’s sleep, I had imprints of the springs on my back and side. I asked the front desk if they could put a mattress pad on it to add some cushion because if they advertise it as a bed, it better feel like a bed, and she said she’d try to find one. The only saving grace was that they were friendly, but that isn’t enough to make up for a stinky smelling room and a pull out bed that not even a cheap hooker hotel would offer. The perk is supposed to be that their continental breakfast offers hot items like eggs and bacon instead of just fruit and pastries, but seriously-​I can find that at Sherri’s or IHOP and pay a little extra to go elsewhere. The mattress «pad» they gave was simply a mattress cover that had no padding to it, so it was essentially just another sheet. Pay a little more and go elsewhere. Or don’t pay more and go to Motel 6-​it would probably be more comfortable and may even smell better.

We went to this place for the labor day long weekend. As soon as we entered the lobby, we noticed that it was smelling weird. Once we got into the room we were shocked, that we were given a Double bed and Pull out couch even though we mentioned 2 queens for four people
Rooms were stinking and spiders were crawling on the wall. We right away went to front desk, who told us there are no rooms to upgrade or change and asked us to get our own bug spray for the spiders and maintenance will be only sent the next morning. She asked us to run the AC to clear the bad smell and blamed it on hotwire for the double bed and pull out sofa, saying third party does that when you select 4 people, which never happened to me before
We walked out of the hotel at that moment and were scrambling around looking for places to stay in the middle of the night
I would prefer to sleep in my car rather than staying in that garbage.
Hotwire who has their priority set on money rather than better customer experience needs to be blamed equally for continuing their business with sub-​standard hotels which don’t deserve to be running.

The taxi service was late both times and went to the wrong location at the airport.
The room felt cheap and smelled of smoke
In the morning, night staff had just left bags of garbage all around for the maids to pick up and they were strewn around the hallways.
The curtains don’t close so the parking lot lights shine in and they shine directly on the beds.
If you leave early, you cannot get breakfast and they do not leave anything out for early fliers.

Met at this hotel for business meetings. Kala Jones was exceptional in booking our event from the start. She was a pleasure to work with, responsive to questions, listened to what I was looking to accomplish with the event and tailored her product to what I needed. She assisted in coordinating rooms for our attendees, food, the meeting room and a screen for our projector; she offered a projector but I had mine so brought it. Anything I asked for or needed was met with a yes I can attitude. The execution of all aspects of our meeting needs were exceptional throughout our stay. I shopped hotels from Seatac to FedWay and over to Renton. Kala worked hard and earned my business this time and my meetings going forward. She is an asset to Clarion.
The rooms were comfortable and clean and onsite catering hit the spot! We will be back.

Great front desk service. Clean rooms, clean bathrooms. Overall graft experience. One negative is that the pull out couch sleeper mattress is horrible.

I have no complaints about my stay at this hotel. There was no sign of bed bugs as another reviewer indicated. Our room was really spacious, the bathroom had plenty of toiletries and such. Our bed was VERY comfortable. When we checked in and out the front desk staff was friendly and we were happy with the service we received. We went to the bar and had a couple drinks. The bar tender was also very friendly. I was pretty impressed with their continental breakfast as well. A variety of choices, hot and cold (waffles, toast, bagels, scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, pastries, fruit, etc…). Our room was very reasonably priced too. I would stay at this hotel again.

BE CAREFUL: BUG BITES, SUB-​PAR SERVICE, AND POOR EMPLOYEE COMMUNICATION, oh my!
My boyfriend and I, who were visiting from Los Angeles, booked a 4-​night stay at this Clarion. Everything started out promising, until we woke up the next morning to multiple BED BUG BITES on our lower extremities. Oh, they itched terribly and were one of itchiest bites I’ve ever experienced. I’m telling you, they left humongous, gnarly bites that literally had people staring at my calf and asking me what happened. My boyfriend had several on his ankle as well.
I immediately went down to the front desk, showed them my bites, and explained the situation to them. The employee stated they would perform a «deep clean and inspection» of the room. When we returned that evening, we asked if the «cleaning» had occurred. The evening manager said «yes», and described the process to me, which included checking and inspecting all the bedding and furniture, moving it away from the walls in order to have a close look. As soon as we went back to the room, my boyfriend plugged his iPad into the wall socket and found a HUGE WAD OF BUBBLE GUM stuck to the side/​back corner of the couch. It wasn’t even hidden: it was in plain sight. AWESOME.
Disgusted, we complained to the manager the next morning. Rebbecca was the sales manager on duty that day and was aghast at what we reported. She was extremely professional and nice — in fact, I would say she’s the nicest hotel employee I have ever met in terms of demeanor and professionalism. She offered us 2 free drink tickets to their bar, and also insisted that she move us to another room.
Satisfied, but wary, we change rooms. Before we leave our old room with the bed bugs, housekeeping knocks on our doors confirming we’re checking out. «No,» we say, «We’re just switching rooms.»
By now you know this is going down a Murphy’s Law spiral, right?
The next morning, we leave our room and take OFF the «Privacy Please» door sign. That night, after a long day of hiking and walking around town, we come back to a… wait for it…
…dirty and uncleaned room. And, sure enough, our «Do Not Disturb» sign is inside our room.
So, once again, I go down to front desk. I wait over 20 minutes for towels (since we didn’t get new ones).
The next morning, it’s the same routine. I’ve gotten so good at this now: I complain to front desk. I ask for some of our days to be discounted off our bill. they say they can’t because the manager isn’t there. For now, they give us a 25% of voucher. But, you know what? It’s only for that particular Clarion Hotel in Washington! I tell her we’re from LA (and honestly, if we came back, do you really think we’d stay there?) The employee tells us she will leave a message for the General Manager, who should call us back on Monday. This was a Saturday.
Monday comes, no call and no returned message. Tuesday, same thing. So, Tuesday, late afternoon, I call, and by a miracle I reach the GM, Kaila. Kaila tells me, «I was away from my desk yesterday. I’m so swamped. I have so many emails to answer.» No apologies. Kaila asks me what’s up.
Really? I’ve stated the case probably 3 times now. I tell Kaila to check her notes. She does and says, «So you’re unhappy because you didn’t get room service one day, even though we moved you to another room.» I say «No,» and I tell her everything. Again. I ask for some sort of refund. Keep in mind that my boyfriend has also called as well and left a voicemail.
Kaila says that nothing can be done, and that even if we call Corporate Headquarters, that they couldn’t do anything. Kaila refuses to even give a voucher for a complimentary stay at her hotel. At this point, I was so frustrated that I was willing to accept this, despite the fact that we’re from LA.
I eventually call Corporate, and they were NOT pleased that this particular Clarion said that Corporate was basically powerless to do anything.
In the end, my boyfriend received a $ 50 credit toward future travel, but that was NOT from Federal Way Clarion. That $ 50 credit was from American Express, who had compassion on our unfortunate experience.
Reader, this hotel has poor communication within their staff, and (with the exception of Rebbecca who was a complete professional) our experience was uncomfortable. It was our vacation. It would’ve been nice to come back to a CLEAN room and NOT GET BUG BITES.

I read a lot of great reviews about this place before making a reservation and unfortunately I can’t say that I received good service.
Some Pros:
Evening staff was friendly — got our room quickly
Lots of toiletries available in room
Parked our car for 16 days — car was fine
Very affordable/​competitive sleep-​park-​fly package
Good quantity of breakfast items
Cons:
Room was fairly dated, could use a remodel, carpets didn’t feel very clean
Shuttle to airport (crammed too many people in)
poor communication from staff about taxi pickup
afternoon staff was not friendly, stayed behind counter and avoided eye contact
hotel generally feels very dated
The main reason we picked to stay here was their sleep-​park-​fly package. As mentioned above, we were crammed into a shuttle (to the airport) with other hotel guests — it was definitely unsafe — I understand that it makes sense for them to save fuel but it definitely didn’t feel like the right way to do it. On our way back from the airport, we expected to jump onto the hotel shuttle again but counter staff just told us which exit to leave from and didn’t tell us to expect a taxi to pick us up — slight miscommunication — things like that happen but when I mentioned it to the counter staff, she basically tried to avoid talking to me altogether.
I think it’s a good cheap way to go. Decent room to crash. No real excellent service though.

I had business in Federal Way and booked a room at this hotel based on Expedia reviews.
As it was my first time in the area, and it was a very clear and nice day (something which is apparently unusual for this area and this time of year), I was interested in maybe taking a ride up to Mt. Rainier, the volcano that dominates the landscape. As soon as I saw it I felt compelled to drive as close as possible to it. Unfortunately listening to the advice of the locals (hotel employees) rather than looking up the information online myself turned out to be a bad idea. They told me it was an hour drive to the mountain and that I could get some really good views from the northeastern summit. It was more like a 2+ hour drive (each way) and the road to the summit was closed. …
As for the hotel itself, when I arrived I immediately noticed an «off» smell in the lobby. Kind of a mix between new shower curtain and body odor. The room was 10X stronger. It was so bad that my nose couldn’t even adjust to it after 30 minutes or so with the windows open and a super odor killer opened to maximum. On complaint, they switched me to a different room promptly which did not smell but it seemed like a downgrade because it had a small 19″ CRT television rather than a 30+” LCD TV like in the first room. The room was large and clean, but the water pressure in the shower was slightly less than adequate and I had to request an ironing board as the room seemed to be missing one. They rectified the situation quickly, but insinuated that the previous occupant stole the ironing board. Can you imagine? I’ve heard of people stealing towels and what not. but can you picture someone actually walking out of the hotel with a full sized ironing board?
There was a full complimentary breakfast buffet in the morning which included eggs, bacon, toast, bagels, cereal, waffles, coffee, fruit, etc. A good selection, although the scrambled eggs may have been sitting around too long — they were a bit on the hard side.
I did get a comfortable nights sleep and a free breakfast, but the general stench of the hotel and the remembrance of how bad the first room stunk is too much of a turn off for me to ever consider staying again. and stars must be deducted accordingly.
