Comfort Inn Federal Way – Seattle

The breakfast is amazing when the area isn’t over crowded or there isn’t enough food. My family and I stayed here while we were visiting family. We needed to stay another day and weren’t allowed because the maid took too long to clean our room. Granted I have four children and consequently my youngest seemed to have gotten food poisoning. My husband and I spent two sleepless nights caring for our sick child. I apologized and tipped the maid and apologized to the manager. The manager said that they don’t authorize over time to the maids. So my thought is I have to pack everything and find another room for one more night all because this lady hired incompetent maids who clearly cannot do their jobs. This just might ruined me to all Comfort Inns.

Presented a workshop for Federal Way teachers and did not want to face the morning Everette-​Seattle-​Tacoma traffic. I needed an inexpensive room close the venue and Comfort Inn had an $ 89 AAA option. Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted and given my key within minutes. Room 404 was on the top level. It had a high ceiling, a microwave, and a good-​sized fridge. There were two different pillow types (soft/“firm”) which is a unique offering. A comfortable bed and quiet atmosphere (save for the planes!) made for a good night’s rest. Breakfast provided me with good coffee and fresh fruit, yogurt, sausages! Fairly Strong wifi. This is a good hotel for a short stay.

My husband, my mother, and I made an unplanned trip to Tacoma, Washington to attend my brother-in-law’s funeral. My husband receives rewards points from his employer. He used all of his points to apply towards a four night, five-​day room at another hotel. Unfortunately, this particular hotel that we almost stayed at was not what we had expected. Instead of staying there we left and for the next three evenings, we stayed with my mother-​in-​law in a small apartment with five us.
My mother-​in-​law booked us a room our last night before we headed home to Phoenix and paid for it. First of all, I would not have paid as much as she did for the one night (307.98). This was a suite room and the only room available (July 25). I would have rather stayed with my mother-​in-​law the last evening.
I am sure by now you are wondering what this has to do with this hotel. My mother-​in-​law paid for the room and put her credit card on file. Like every other hotel request, when we checked in we provided a credit card for incidentals. We did not have any incidentals. I would like to know why our card was charged the entire night stay in the amount of $ 307.98.
My husband called your hotel on July 30 and spoke to Jessica, the assistant manager. Jessica apologized and stated that she would provide us with a future credit at the hotel. That was a nice gesture, but not what we were looking for. All we were asking for was to be charged a regular room rate. My husband asked for a call back from the General Manager. A week goes by and we do not hear from the General Manager. My husband calls and speaks to Jessica on August 6. Jessica was surprised her manager did not call him back. To date, August 17, 2015 we still have not heard from the General Manager regarding this.
We do plan on coming back out to Washington to visit our family. However, you can be sure that we will not stay within your establishment. We will also ensure that our friends and family know of our experience. Not only with being charged on our card, but that the management does not follow up with their guest. Clearly, the management team does not care what their guest experience during their stay.
This was not a pleasant experience at all, not only did we have to go to a funeral, my husband lost all of his reward points (we understand, it was a risk we took), then we ended up paying $ 307.98 when someone else purchased the night for us.
I sent the above letter to the General Manager along with the corporate office on August 17. To date, I have not heard anything from the either parties. It is pretty sad that there is not a lot of customer service in business anymore. Just think twice about spending your money where customer service is not important to this hotel establishment.

The hotel is clean & quiet and every staff member I encountered was courteous and helpful.
However, my main reason for giving this hotel 5 stars is because of the AMAZING breakfast. There was so much fresh fruit, tons of yummy pastries, the usual bacon and eggs AND also healthy choices like English muffins and also lactose-​free yogurt! Wow! So nice to see a continental breakfast that caters to everyone.
P. S. The Passion Guava juice. YUM!

We stayed here because everywhere else was booked, otherwise we would’ve left that night! We got back to the hotel late at night and there was no parking!!! We had to park in a non parking space, which the front desk attendant could not reassure us that we wouldn’t be towed. Then at 6AM we had to complain about the noise above us. A couple hours later the noise started up again. It sounded like furniture being moved around. The front desk told us there were maids cleaning in the room above us! You would think the maids would be trained to be more quiet! A little bit later a maid walked in our room to clean 2 hours before check out! She didn’t even knock and then left the door open when she walked out. This wasn’t even the last thing that happened. Upon taking a shower we found hair in the tub, that was not ours since we hadn’t used it! We tried to get some sort of compensation for all of our troubles, but the front desk told us they couldn’t since we pre-​paid! A manager was suppose to call, which I have yet to hear from. I will be contacting corporate headquarters for all our troubles.

Only reason I went here was for the location. It is in the same plaza as the spa and hair studio my wife was going to go to. Also in the same plaza as a decent korean restaurant we had dinner at. I had to watch the 3 kids for half the day. I must say it was better than expected. You don’t go here expecting 4 star service and amenities. It’s also close to the freeway and lots of shopping and restaurants.
Check in was easy. Rooms are smaller than expected (but not claustrophobic). Did fine with 3 little kids. The bathroom is quite small. Rooms are relatively clean other than the chairs. They either looked worn out or had a lot of faint stains. We stayed in the room behind the elevator, was afraid might hear it all night. They said they would happily change our rooms if needed. Didn’t need it. Didn’t hear the elevators at all.
The location of the sink and the fridge/​refrigerator are a little odd. The sink is not inside the bathroom. Also the mini fridge and microwave are in the back corner of the room. They don’t have enough room in the entry hallway because that’s where the sink was. Not sure if it’s like that in all the rooms or just ours.
There is a pool and hot tub. Kids loved that. Clean enough. Little odd but no bathroom attached to the pool. Have to go around to the exercise room.
I was quite impressed with the wifi. Free and fast. Usually the free wifi is barely usable but here it was ranging anywhere from 10−17mbs download. 10 was during peak hours in the evening. Upload speeds were about ~5mbs. I downloaded a 3+gb HD movie from iTunes in time for the kids to watch in the evening.
Breakfast was ok. Slightly better than the usual free breakfast. Make yourself waffles, with bagels, yogurt, juice, coffee, cereal, scrambled eggs, hardboiled eggs, and sausage. One thing different was that you could make 4 small waffles instead of the one big one. Perfect for the kids. They also had 2 different waffle batters. One slightly impressive things was that they didn’t just have super polished oranges and apples sitting around for fruit, they actually had freshly cut cantaloupe and pineapples.
If you go in not expecting much, 4 stars. If you go in expecting a lot (which you shouldn’t), 3 stars.

This was a decent stay. Nothing was special or cool, but it does the job. It wasn’t the cheapest, but the complementary breakfast was worth it!
They’re dog friendly some I guess our room smelled a little funky. I found on my travels that dog friendly hotels, motels, inns, and such have a funny, tolerable, weird smell to their rooms. Probably needs more ventilation or just crack a window open when it’s vacant. Our room was two full bed plus a dog so it came to 150 ish a night. That’s expensive to me.
Beds were okay. They were tall, had two pillows, and a thin later of a thermal blanket and a thin layer of a regular blanket. We never use the comforter so we left that on the floor for our dog. The room can get cold. There was a round table with chairs, drawers with a tv on top, and a closet filled with more pillows and a warmer blanket. The bathroom was dark because it didn’t have a window for natural light and it was small tht the sink is outside the door. From left to righ it was the shower/​tub, toilet, wall and door to make it a separate room, the actual door into the room, and the closet/​sink at the very right. It was an okay shower.
My favorite part was the breakfast. They had two different waffle calories, classic nd cinnamon, and two different waffle makers, big one nd small ones. They had regular syrup nd sugar free syrup. Eggs, sausages, different flavors nd brands of yogurt, different kinds of cereals, muffins, nd breads with jelly, butter, peanut butter, bananas, coffee, tea, nd juices.
I’d stay at a comfort in again. It definitely beats the motels nd to think of it, about the same if we were to eat outside for breakfast.

This is a decent place to stay, especially if you don’t want to spend a whole lot of money. We rented a room for $ 84.99/night in early August, a Friday/​Saturday night stay. Free breakfast was included.
The room: Your average hotel room. Non-​descript furnishings, desk, 2 queen beds, refrigerator and microwave. The bathroom had a tub/​shower combo with so-​so pressure in the shower. We think it was probably a low-​flow shower head. Better than a trickle, but not great. The room was clean, a little dated in some ways, but perfectly fine for sleeping.
That said, the beds were hard. Uncomfortably so. My husband said they had no «give» at all. Wreaked havoc on both our backs.
The a/​c worked fine and kept the room comfortable, even a bit chilly.
The breakfast: Pretty good, better than what you might typically find. There were 2 waffle irons, and batter for both blueberry and regular waffles. Also available were pastries and muffins from Costco, bagels, sliced and fresh fruits, yogurt, bread, 3 – 4 different cereals, milk, juice, and coffee. There are a number of tables in the breakfast area, but it was a bit difficult to find seating if you got down there during the rush, which seemed to be about 9:30 on Saturday morning. Of course, there were some girls’ soccer teams staying, so that made for some chaos and things were in short supply, but replenished once we asked.
Our main complaint was with the heat in the common areas, once you left the first floor. There didn’t seem to be any significant ventilation in the elevators and as you got closer to the 4^th floor, things got hotter and hotter. Our room was near the ice machine, and that portion of the hallway was hottest of all. It was like a portal to the Equator, going through the doorway to the section where our room was. Extremely uncomfortable. There was no air conditioning in the hallways, not even any fans blowing. A box fan, a high velocity fan, anything would be a welcome change. Even my husband was bothered by the excessive heat, and it made me downright grumpy.
Only my husband got to use the spa/​hot tub. He said it was «average». It is open until 10:00 PM, and for adults only from 10:00 — 11:00 PM for adults only.
The location is good; it is near the Federal Way mall and there is other shopping closer — think Best Buy, Ross, and so on.
I think we would stay again, but they would need to remedy the hallway heat issues first.

The room itself is really nothing special. But hey if you’ve got kiddos, it’s a perfect place to stay on the way to wherever you are going.
It’s clean, cramped, but hey the breakfast (waffles, and a whole bunch of other good stuff) makes up for it! It’s only a few hours to sleep, shower, eat, and this is a nice pit stop close to the I-​5.

I can’t think of a single complaint about our stay, which is unusual. We got a decent price, the staff was helpful but not overly friendly, and the room was comfortable with all the usual amenities. The free breakfast offered more variety than most.
