Skyway Drive-In Theatre

My friend and I came here and it had been a couple of years since we both where here. I have got to say the picture was amazing, the bugs on my windshield were a little bit of a bother but that was all me. The radio station came in so clear that we didn’t need the speaker. I love that they give you directions too making sure that everyone stays courteous and everyone gets the best experience. This is an amazing staple in Door County especially for the people who live here so they have something else to do. I like all the current movies I don’t have to go down to Green Bay to see and come on, we all know it’s better to sit under the stars and watch a movie then sit in a theater next to some creepy guy that ends up elbowing you steeling your popcorn when you get up to go to the bathroom. Anyways, I really like this Drive In and I hope it never goes away.

I love the nostalgia of drive-​in theaters and Skyway preserves the tradition well.
Everyone is very friendly, both the staff and patrons.
Check their website for current showings, usually two features. Gates open at 7 pm, and movie well start song 7:55 pm or dark. You can pay for one movie $ 8 (12 & older, 4 & younger FREE!) And stay for the second showing!
They do not accept credit out debit cards. But have an ATM on site.
Popcorn and other snacks are very reasonable compared to theaters, bag of popcorn will run you $ 3.
They’re voted the best drive-​in in the U.S. by TripAdvisor!

Great throwback. Always nice to watch a movie outside while eating fresh popcorn. Get here before 715 if you want first row or shortly after for a decent spot. Bathrooms are clean and the staff is friendly.
Picture quality is great, sound the drive in speakers is a little quiet but is great through the car radio.

Went to see «Inside Out» by Pixar, movie evaluation aside, it was great! There were bathrooms (that were pretty clean!) and the attendant was nice, she let us walk out and take a picture of the sign. The cost was a bit more than we expected but it wasn’t too bad.

I was so excited to hear Door County had a drive-​in movie theatre. I knew we’d have to head there during our trip!
We arrived around 7:45 and waited in line for a short time. We paid (cash only) and entered. Finding parking was no problem and we ended up in the second row. At this point, we started getting out our snacks, pop, and blankets so we were ready to go when the first movie started.
We went early in the season (early June), and there weren’t really mosquitos or bugs, to my very pleasant surprise. Later in the season, I could see them being annoying if you leave your windows down.
Movie quality was great, as was the sound. We listened in on our radio, but there were also speakers next to the car that we could have hung in our window.
You can’t get more retro than a drive in. I love them, and would urge you to head here immediately.

What a fun night! My kids may be used to their IMAX, 3D, Dolby, quadrophonic-​surround-​sound theaters but nothing beats a night at the drive-​in. Great snack bar and an all-​around special night for the family.

Having grown up with drive-​ins, it’s so nice to see one not only surviving but thriving. I would rather go here than a regular theater any day. It’s so much cheaper and I feel like I got value for my money not ripped off. Oh by the way, really clean bathrooms too.

I am in love with all things kitschy, and this was everything I dreamed– right down to the 50’s music playing and concessions dancing on the screen.
The grounds are nicely maintained, and there is a small play set and a set of swings– perfect for when you get there almost an hour early (you must) with small children. Standard movie concessions are much more reasonably priced than our local AMC. This just makes for a lovely evening– bring lots of blankets and your own snacks, if you like.

Had a fantastic experience at this drive in theatre. Arrived at 7:30pm for a 8:45pm double feature showing. Keep your windows closed while waiting in line if you go during mosquito season! Our car filled with around 20 mosquitoes before we closed the windows and commenced killing all of them! Gates opened at 7:50pm and we were able to snag a front row spot which included a speaker that we could hang inside the window of our vehicle. If you are going to use your car stereo make sure to turn the key to ACC position (counter clockwise). The picture and sound quality was fantastic! We went at the end of May and there were a lot of mosquitoes so make sure to bring bug spray. There are a few bench seats in front, however some people bring blankets and air mattresses. Oh and there is a concession stand with plenty of treats including popcorn!

If you’re a 90s baby like me, or just have never been to a drive-​in, this place is SO COOL. It’s affordable compared to movie theaters today, only it’s way more awesome. If you have a chance, go. Just make sure you go early to get a good spot (I went at 7:45 on a Friday night for an 8:40 movie and got in the 2^nd row) and bring something to do!

This is the best way to see a movie! You can bring your own food and drinks, snuggle up in a camping chair, and relax under the stars while watching a couple movies. So much more affordable than a theatre and much more fun, too!

Skyway is one of the last drive-​in movie theatres in the state and is a really fun place to spend an evening. There is plenty of parking. I’ve never had problems with not being able to see from wherever I was. There is a playground for the kids to use up some of their energy before the movie. Before the movies the speakers play old 50’s music which gives the theatre a nice feel. To listen to the movies you have a couple options. You can go the old fashioned route and rest the speaker on your window, or you can tune in to one of the radio stations they have solely for the movie.
The best part is that you get two movies for the price of one! The first movie starts right at sundown and the second one starts about 15 minutes after the first is finished. The early movie is always a kid friendly movie while the late one is more for the older crowd. The two movies I saw here on my last visit were Despicable Me 2 and World War Z.
Prices are very reasonable. I would leave 5 stars but they are cash only. So plan accordingly.

Only 4 stars for CASH ONLY. Everything else was great! Of course, most normal people on vacation probably have cash on them, but not me. I had to park off to the side, go to the ATM at the snack bar, then come back and pay the ticket booth lady. Tres embarassing. Make sure you bring cash!
The place opens at 8pm, but the cars start lining up at like 6, so be prepared to wait in line to get in and plan accordingly. There’s a play area for kids up front if you arrive early.

Really into this place. There isn’t much to do in Door County after hours (or at least late at night) and this city girl isn’t into going to be at 10pm. We lined up early, maybe about an hour before sundown and there were only two or three cars ahead of us. We got the perfect spot and headed to the snack bar. I don’t suggest sitting outside unless you are doused in sunscreen because the bugs are wicked here. It would have been romantic to watch the movie out under the beautiful stars but I wasn’t willing to get eaten alive. The snack bar was crowded but not super expensive like the movie theaters back in Chicago. We saw two movies for $ 6.75, you cannot beat that. I believe we saw Crazy Stupid Love and then Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I loved both movies and somehow managed to stay awake for both. It was nice to get up and walk around after the first movie, it felt like a bonfire and everyone was super friendly and just happy to be on vacation. The sound came threw great on several radio stations, much better than any other drive in I’ve been to. I will be making this a tradition.

Going to a drive in is like stepping back in time. It is a shame that not many are around anymore.
Came here on a Sunday night and the place was packed. We got here early so we didn’t have a problem finding a nice spot. I was pleasantly surprised by the clarity of the screen/​picture and the overall sound from the speakers and over the radio. The concession stand also had a decent selection of food items and beverages.
If you are in the area, definitely check this place out for a bit of nostalgia.

Fantastic! Our car died here and the staff was wonderful. They jumped our car right away and were super nice. I had a great time here. They had a great selection of snacks and candy at the concessions. The movies they play are current and the screen was big and easy to see. I recommended this drive in to everyone. Its a great place to take a significant other or family.

What a great way to spend the evening if you’re camping across the street at peninsula state park! Last summer I saw Harry Potter here on the opening night… it was cheap for the double feature (like 7 dollars) and a great experience! You can go sit up front on the big wood reclining benches or stay in your car (which we did, so we could drink wine and have our fancy in-​car picnic). We got there when they opened and had a nice spot with a perfect view in the front. You can listen to the sound on your car radio which was really convenient. Check it out! How often do you get the chance to go to a drive-​in movie? I live in chicago, so I’ll tell you, not very much!

I’m a local guy, coming to this drive-​in for over 25 years. Now I bring my kids here, and they will now ALWAYS have memories of going to the drive-​in as kids, just like I do. It really hasn’t changed a whole lot in that time.
They’ve added a piece or two of playground equipment. Added FM-​radio broadcast so you don’t need the tinny mono speaker hanging on your window. The snack bar has always been well-​stocked and fairly economical, and the price of tickets has always been reasonable, especially since your getting two movies for less than the price of one.
It’s a great family experience.
However, a few little things bother me. I think the owners believe in the nostalgia experience a little TOO much. The playground equipment has a lot of exposed cement pilings and hard-​packed dirt. It could be made a lot safer by burying everything in a heavy layer of wood chips. I’ve seen a LOT of crying kids over the years who’ve taken a hard fall.
Broadcasting on FM is nice, but there isn’t a lot of dynamic range in the broadcast. It still sounds quite tinny. and the stereo separation isn’t very great. Sorta sounds like AM stereo. Explosions should sound like explosions, not like a radio broadcast of explosions.
The projector’s brightness could also be a little brighter. Night scenes are quite muddy; daylight scenes seem a bit muted. Turn up the lumens a bit.
And I would love to see wi-​fi added, and better enforcement of keeping extra-​large vehicles out of the first three rows. If you have an Escalade or a Suburban, you should expect to park a little further back at the drive-​in and not plant yourself in the front row.
Also, the speaker volume up front by the bench seating is quite weak. You sorta have to strain to hear the sound, rather than being enveloped by it. The speakers are also behind the benches, instead of in front. Just about every time I sit up front with my kids, somebody has a boom box with them to get a bit more volume. That shouldn’t be necessary.
My last peeve is that movie selection sucks in the late summer, and keeps playing the same aged movies week after week. Right now, (Sept.4−6 weekend) they’re showing ‘Despicable Me’ which came out on July 9, and ‘The Other Guys’ which came out August 6. One’s almost two months old and the others almost a month old. Is there anybody still yearning to see ‘Despicable Me’ one more time?
It’s really kind of sad because I would love to go this time of year, when the movies start earlier, but Skyway’s unwillingness to keep current movies in rotation keeps our family away. It’s too bad, because it’s affordable entertainment.
I bring these shortcomings up not because I don’t love the drive-​in, but because I do, and would love to see the experience made better with some modest upgrades. I realize you make certain trade-​offs in audio and video quality when viewing a movie at a drive-​in, but I feel the drive-​in experience at the Skyway could be made a little better with some modest upgrades, instead of coasting along on nostalgia. Still love it, though.

This is literally the only drive-​in theater I’ve ever been to, so I have limited experience with this, but I’ve always loved this place. It’s a great experience, and I’d highly recommend coming here. Double features on the cheap, and the comfort of being able to adjust your seat while watching a movie on the big screen.
Make sure you clean your windshield.

This is the Drive-​In movie experience that I so fondly remember, but better!
This time, I’m sitting in the FRONT seat (get your mind out of the gutter) I meant… I’M the adult now. I’m not wearing my footy pajamas (although that would’ve been really comfy)
And this time, we have a sun-​roof to open and an appreciation of watching a movie under the stars that only comes with age!
My husband and I spent an anniversary weekend in Door County and this was on my list of must-do’s.
My expectations were surpassed!
Very clean, VERY reasonable prices, a double-​feature, well-​organized, polite staff, and best of all… REAL butter for the popcorn!!!
I can’t even remember when I last tasted that!
Very romantic! One of the movies being «No Reservations» helped the moment!
