My wishes to jet back to Hotel du Nord days of old have sadly been crushed. We waited for a table, but that was no issue, the hostess was kind and professional. She took a drink order while we waited in the bar, and checked in on us multiple times. Wait was approx 30 minutes. Issues started after sitting. Bread and water came immediately, but drink orders were slow, and the wait to place our meal order was excruciating. Three courses ordered, each slower than the last. We arrived at 6:06 and left at 8:40. Baked Brie was standard fare, chowder was thin, salad uninspired. Steak was well prepared, but side potatoes and veg, just hum drum. Ravioli was hand made, sauce was flavorful and zesty. Words cannot describe how put off I was by seeing kitchen crew on the floor in camo shorts, work sneakers and a headband. Having cooked fine dining many years, if you are going to represent the kitchen to guests dining, that’s not the way to do it. Really just sad all my fond memories and positive stories I had relayed to my husband weren’t reflected tonight. Food was okay, service was fair, but sloooooooooooooooow.

Yummy dinner tonight. We ordered the special lamb chops and the halibut. The lamb was amazing… What… did I say amazing. Husband said it was the best lamb he has had in a long time. The halibut was good, topped with asparagus and goat cheese. Goat cheese was not needed but the tobacco onion rings made it worth while Our server was great. Of course it was not overly busy but you could tell the servers are well trainer. Great drinks and well appointed wine list. We are going back again soon.

The brandy old fashioned and warm chocolate cake were amazing, the entrees disappointingly mediocre. We tried the tenderloin Oscar which was served with augraten potatoes and green beans– it was all extremely salty. We also tried the shrimp carbonara, which was served with butter not a cream sauce. I’d go back for a drink and dessert but skip the entrée.

EXCELLENT! Winter Christmas vacation, not as many restaurant choices, but was pleasantly surprised to find a 5STAR place just minutes from our cozy cottage. Our filets literally melted in our mouths, unique mashed potato that seemed subtly cheesy with hints of fresh butter and some extras we still can’t put our finger on. A unique cheesy/garlicky picky bread appetizer. We shared fantastic desserts of almond ice cream and a heavy decadent peanut butter torte. Would seriously go back to Door County for this restaurant alone, but feel sure that it is probably very hard to get in during summertime!

Please explain to me why a restaurant would take reservations if they won’t honor them. Half an hour past and we are still waiting. What a joke. The hostess keeps saying«1 minute, 1 minute». Should’ve gone to the English Inn! I won’t be back here.

Wow! I’ve only had one bite, but the blackened tuna is easily one of the best I’ve ever had!!! My wife is eating the scallops and thinks that they are some of the best she’s ever had, you don’t often get a chance in an offseason restaurant to get food like this. Bruce, Alexander, has really put together a top notch venue for exceptional food! His wait staff is very attentive to our needs, and the cocktail portion of the service is equally as good. If you have the opportunity to eat at Alexanders in Fish Creek, by all means do so!!!

This place was the upscale and delicious meal we needed tonight. My husband’s steak was perfectly medium rare and tender, the vegetable and starch(smoked cheese potato) sides were really good, and my crab stuffed shrimp were lemony and buttery and better than I expected. Would have preferred the salad dressing on the side, but I should have asked. Would have preferred a more grainy artisanal bread. But the stuff that mattered was great! Service was spot on and the music was a good blend of Sinatra and Motown.

Came here with friends tonight and truly enjoyed the meal! Strong drinks, great food(I had the filet oscar-style) and clam chowder soup and it was absolutely delicious. Would recommend it. The bacon-wrapped scallops special app was delicious, however it varied to how it was explained(we were told it had goat cheese/cherries stuffed within) and the waiter felt it necessary to tell us we were wrong and although we had a few great martinis we believe we would have noticed cheese-stuffing in the scallops. Then someone at my table ordered a dirty martini and he brought up the lack of dirtiness within it the waiter who then came by with the olive tray from the bar, used his bare hands, and strained some olive juice right into his drink — right at the table, sort of rude! Food reigned though and it was a good meal. would come back again and just would hope for a new waiter!

This is a great Door County classic. There are so many supper-club type places up here, and Alexander’s is one we’ve enjoyed on a number of trips up here. You cannot beat the $ 7 cocktails, many of which are made with locally distilled spirits. I had a sparkling salty dog which featured Death’s Door gin and was a very generous, strong beverage! There were a lot of interesting options on the cocktail menu, and lots of interesting wines and beers by the glass. All entrees come with a house salad or cup of soup and most come with the vegetable and starch of the day. I opted for classic and went with the Door County whitefish which was prepared simply broiled with butter and lemon. It was fresh and tasty! The vegetable today was a green bean mix and the starch was scalloped potatoes with bacon. Just a heads up for vegetarians or pescatarians; don’t assume the starch and vegetables are vegetarian here. I happen to love bacon, so no problem here, but I know I have friends who eat fish, but would not want something with bacon. Both of the sides of the day went well with my entrée, but I think the pairings would be a little less optimal with some other menu items that featured sauces I’m not sure would go with the side of cheesy bacony potatoes. Like I said though, this is a classic place, so starch and veggie of the day it is! Desserts all sounded great! I had the bread pudding and it was wonderful. I was glad the portion wasn’t insanely large; it was just right for after a full dinner. Service was good, and courses were timed nicely. We had a leisurely dinner, and will likely be back on future trips here!

I’ve been here before and was wowed. Last night was not as great. First off, if they want to stay in business it’s time to think about a younger clientele. Changing the music is imperative. Listening to the greatest hits from the 50s was a bore. The food. I ordered my steak rare. I was explicit. It could not be too rare. I got medium rare. They did comp a desert for the faux pas. But it really wasn’t as good as it’s been in the past. Somebody isn’t paying attention.

The best dining experience I’ve had in a long time. Had escargot served with sautéed mushrooms, followed up with a rare tenderloin Oscar style, which was the Saturday special. Could have used some more hollandaise sauce, but delicious all the same. The cabranet Sauvignon was a perfect pairing, with a brandy older fashioned for desert. Service was impeccable. Well worth the price. You can tell a good dining experience by the volume of the customers, all were enjoying the experience thoroughly.

The last time I was here was in the seventies and I spent my time at the bar… We usually go to the English Inn when we visit northern Door County but decided to give Alexander’s a try this trip. I had the Pork Chop ala Chloe and my wife had the Salmon ala Oscar. The food was very good and the twin cheese and prosciutto hiding in the chop were a delight. The ambiance however is more suited to larger groups and I am very glad I chose to sit next to my wife instead of across from her as I would have had a hard time hearing her otherwise. I would return if I were part of a group, but for the two of us I will continue to visit the English Inn.

My wife and I went here for dinner while on vacation and we both felt everything was excellent. I had the NY Strip Steak with Gorgonzola butter and my wife had the 10oz filet which I had the pleasure of finishing. Both steaks were prepared just as we ordered and were brought out in timely fashion. We both absolutely loved our respective steaks and would highly recommend both cuts to any prospective customers. The ambience was nice. service was fine, and the price was extremely reasonable. Definitely worth checking out if passing through Fish Creek

Alexander’s is a great location for a nice dinner. We always visit at least once when we come up to Door County. I usually get the filet mignon or the chicken ravioli with vodka sauce. Both are very good. I’ve also tried the penne which is very good as well. For drinks I recommend the Door County Cherry Martini!

The food here deserves a 5 star rating. This was our second visit. I had the cherry BBQ salmon and my partner had filet mignon. We both agreed that all of the courses were delicious and perfect. Our complaint was with: 1. The hostess… she seemed to be in a very bad mood, and it appeared that we were bothering her when we arrived to let her know that we had a reservation. She continued to stand and walk around with a scowl. It was a bit of a damper on an otherwise pleasant atmosphere. 2. Soda from bar. first one wss a diet 7-up. It arrived tasting like pure carbonated water. I asked them to replace it with diet coke. Surprisingly it had the opposite problem. It wss syrupy without enough carbonation. This probably won’t be a problem for most. I’m the odd one who likes soda with dinner! Partner had wine, and said it was very good and it was a generous serving for the price. The hostess is the only thing that kept me from giving them 5 stars.

Been here 4 times all have been great My only issue is I wish they would change up the menu every once in a while. Great bar and bartenders pour a nice drink have nice selection of beers on tap. Food wise they had a nice assortment of thing dishes to choose from tonight I had the NY Strip. Jim had pork chop aupoive. My steak was excellent always come with veg of the day and scallop potatoes. Which were ok not great. Salad o had a Caesar which was good. Great service constantly refilling waters and clearing dirty items from the tables. I defiantly recommend trying if you haven’t. They also have s Thai shrimp app which is excellent

Wonderful. Attractive dining room, great professional service. Had the broiled whitefish. Perfect cook on the fish, deliciously seasoned sides of haricots vert and au gratin potatoes. Other diners at our table enjoyed the Sunday special of wild mushroom strudel and penne pasta with chicken. Service was fantastic. Attentive without being intrusive. Helpful with knowing and describing specials and answering questions about the menu. Great cocktails from the bar(we enjoyed a brandy old fashioned, and the special greyhound). Local beers on draught and a good wine list. Desserts are made in-house and center around local produce. Delicious cherry sorbet and an «interesting» pumpkin crème brûlée. We had a really nice dining experience. Recommended.

I am giving you a 5. And that is not easily earned from a reviewer like me. To begin my evening, I had a glass of your house chardonnay. It was crisp, clean and easy on the palette. Normally when I get the«house» wine, I expect something decent but not great. This was not a disappointment. I can not spell the name but their house wines are from Chile. Nice touch, Alexander’s. A couple of people from my party order appetizers. The King Crab Cakes and the Crostini Bread. The crab cake appetizer is really for one person. It came with two cakes smothered in hollandaise sauce which were accompanied with a small salad. The crostini bread is made for a few people to share, but you will not want to. The seasoned breach is stuffed with hot, stringy cheese. Amazing. Our reservation was for 6:30 and we did not get seated until nearly 7:00. Apologetic, they gave our entire party of 16 complimentary bread. Our drink orders were taken quick, menus were provided and specials were given promptly. Honestly, that was our only issue all night. They rectified it and moved on. I ordered the Pork Chop a la Chloe. It was a large chop stuffed with prosciutto ham, fontina and fontinella cheeses. It has a white wine, mushroom sauce to compliment it. It was served with green beans and seasoned and sliced potatoes. The entire meal was well connected. While the inside of the pork shop was a bit salty, it countered the mild potatoes. I noshed a bit on my husband’s steak. He ordered the 18 oz. Filet Mignon which came with the garlic Gorgonzola butter. You can never go wrong with this butter. I thought the table butter was nice, creamy and easily spreadable. However, the butter/cheese concoction which came with the steak was hands down amazing. Our dessert was brought with us for the occasion. However, they nicely sliced and served it. I wish I could have tried their desserts. The other meals at my table looked amazing. I wanted to try their ravioli, their pasts, their chicken… but sadly I had but one meal. The price is pretty high. It is $ 25 – 30 per dinner. However, I stand by the statement: you get what you pay for. Maybe this is not a place to hit up everyday but it is definitely worth a go-around. If you have kids, amazing this place has decent options for them. There is a steak and pasta option. There is also typical child-fare options available(nuggets and so forth). Now service did go up and down but overall, your food saved any blips in service.
