Ate here with my parents and was very disappointed. We did go later in the evening, around 6. I loved the idea if a bar style for addi add topping to the burger but it looked as if the toppings had been sitting out all day. I was afraid to even touch the mayo. The meat itself tasted good just concerned about those toppings. My fiancé said they used to be better, 3 years ago. Not sure what changed between then and now but very disappointing.

Best thing about this place is the fixins station, the burgers and the fixins are fresh! Deff worth giving this place a try. The prices are good and got plenty of seating. And if you feel like having a drink or 10 there’s a bun huggers bar next door.

Always a must when visiting Flagstaff. I haven’t been in years. We always used to go the one off of Route 66 on our way back from Lake Powell. I crave the fried mushrooms and zucchini. My mouth waters just thinking about it. Definitely think about opening one down here in the Valley of the Sun! I was just there on May 13th and I didn’t want to leave.

I feel guilty not giving Bun Huggers a stellar review. It’s such a fixture, I fear expulsion from NAU and a ban from Flagstaff for not raving about it. I love the rustic feel and the sense of history you get when you sit down. This building is old, with endless initials carved into the wooden interior, as though everyone in this small town were so connected they could leave their mark in one place. Oh well, too bad it’s far from unremarkable! What’s good about this is that the burgers are grilled over charcoal, they didn’t go cheap on the buns, and you’ve got plenty of toppings to build your own. I prefer blue cheese and onions, but maybe next time I’ll go in-n-out style and put an entire salad with thousand island on it. Anyways, I’m just saying there are tons of do-it-yourself customization possibilities, so go nuts. BUT…while I do like my burgers to be done, these were almost burnt to a crisp. Also, they might say they’re making their burgers by hand and whatnot, but I could tell these were store bought. They were too dry. Too perfectly round. A modest, ¼ burger, fries(were were decent) and a fountain drink will set you back around $ 13. I’m thinking about all the burger combos I can get out there for that price range, and honestly this would fall at the bottom of that list. It’s edible and it’s cozy, but entirely mediocre. I think that if someone in the back were actually putting effort into the beef, I’d actually return.

Bun huggers was decent… Can’t say that it was amazing, but it was not bad either. I had the steak sandwich, which was a full piece of steak. It was not sliced, as most steak sandwiches are. It made it a little bit of a challenge to eat, without pulling out the entire piece of meat. Boys had their standard. Cheeseburgers. Tried a requisite bite of one, and it was a little off tasting… In and Out Burger for the same price would have won out…

Both myself and my Girlfriend got sick a few hours after eating here as we passed through town. Steak Sandwich, Burger, Dog, BLT, onion rings, could have been any of the bunch. For theprices they charge, the hot dog bun should not come already broken at the hinge, dog cooked to death. BLT had bacon that was cooked Wednesday! Guess I should have read the other reviews, as I normally do. This one’s on me I guess.

You can tell by the environment that it’s gonna be a fun one. Burgers were served fresh, hot and to order. Ordering was slow, waiting was painful, but maybe I was just hangry. The treasure you get is a delish burger. No reason not to enjoy here!

I am not sure about the name of the place but they sure have good food. The kids loved the burgers and I loved the chicken sandwich!!! They have a burger fixn bar and I was able to add as much of the fixn’s as I wanted. I wish the décor wasnt so dark, regardless the food was great!!!

I had the steak sandwich with green chilies, pepper jack cheese, and onion and it was outstanding. After a long day of snowboarding this place really hit the spot. I chose the mushrooms as my side and did not regret it one bit, these fried little suckers were outstanding. we’ll definitely come by again.

Weird place, but good food. Stopped because of the name and recommendation. The food was good, and enjoyed it. Reminds me of a Shakeys Pizza place that was converted to this. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the food comes out blazing hot and good. I would go back with out a doubt.

Can’t beat fried zukes and shrooms er– I mean fried zucchini and mushrooms! I have enjoyed this old, noisy, grubby place for years now; first as a student at NAU and now as an adult with kids doing the tourist thing. Bun Huggers never disappoints. The burgers are fresh – how can they not be when they are cooked to order? You put the toppings on so it’s the way YOU want it. It’s a lot like Fuddruckers if that gives you an idea of the ordering/service style. Bun Huggers is old. It was old when I went to NAU20 years ago and it’s old now. The seats are old, the tables are old, the building is old. The trendy term is rustic but let’s be serious. It’s old. It comes across in a grimy way because it’s old but the restaurant is very clean despite being old. So be prepared for that when you come in. The people who work there aren’t the friendliest but are you there to make friends or are you there to eat? The place is loud so keep an ear out for them to call your order at the window. They don’t bring the food to you so it’s up to you to stay alert. The food is tasty – but again – you built it so it’s up to you if it’s good or not. They have all kinds of options – vegetarian, chicken, and even hot dogs for the kiddos if they are so inclined so there is something for everyone. It’s a great place to get a beer and some fried deliciousness after a day on the slopes or just bumming around town.

Burgers are fresh, fried zucchini & fries orders were huge! It’s basically flagstaff’s chuck box. It’s all self service. You get to put on your own fixings, grab your drinks and bus your own tables. Total dive and totally worth checking out

We’re from Phoenix and stopped here for lunch because a friend suggested it. The onion rings were delicious! Crispy and fresh. Liked the burger too. You can have as many toppings as you’d like. This was perfect because some places are stingy with the pickles, so I loaded up. They have a unique menu as well. I’m going with 4 stars because I think the bathrooms need some work, and the booth we sat in had a lot of crumbs in the seat that needed to be wiped away before we sat down. Would still recommend this place though.

Not a fan at all. The place probably is a legend in flagstaff given how crowded this place was and its proximity to NAU, but it just wasn’t working for me. It seemed dirty af in the kitchen, it was really muggy in the restaurant, which made it smell like feet. I ordered the bun hugger steak sandwich that had everything on it and paid $ 13 for that, fries, and a drink. I think it’s over priced for the size of the sandwich. The meat was pretty fatty imo, and felt like I was chewing rubber… Even though I asked for it to be medium. Not much flavor either… I had to keep throwing Worcestershire on to keep it appetizing. I don’t know… I would MAYBE give this place another try but for now it probably doesn’t even make my top 20 burger places… In fact, it doesn’t even make any list lol.

This is a bit of a grubby place but it has excellent burgers and hot dogs, as well as a bar here. According to my friend, it has been around forever and it is a Flagstaff staple. Well I can attest to that, since it is usually filled with people, especially on the weekends and at night. Their burgers are generally very good. My favorite menu item is the Steak Burger so I would recommend that. I also like the condiment bar quite a bit, due to it’s selection of items to choose from(it is at times poorly stocked, especially during busy times). However everything else about this place is merely ok or passable, so it’s the burgers that I really come here for. The fries are inconsistent. Sometimes they are crispy, sometimes they are a bit soggy. Sometimes they are well seasoned and sometimes they aren’t seasoned at all. The onion rings are over breaded and gross, and their hot dogs are ok, but nothing special. Their customer service however, is ok. I have never had a problem with the people working here, and to tell you the truth, given that the food here is served cafeteria style, the customer service is nonexistent to an extent. Still I would go here for the burgers alone, hence the fact that I give it three stars. It’s a good place to go if you are craving a good burger, but to tell you the truth, there is nothing else to really say about it.

Stopped in this weekend and have been a customer for about 10 years and everything’s still the same: burgers are good, service is still crappy and most of the patrons are sloppy and disgusting. Looks as if the typical hipster, beard-wearing, bother-me-with-your-order looks are working there now. Ordered for my girlfriend and myself and the guy that took our order didn’t even make eye contact. After placing the order, went to sit down and watched people get their orders before us even though they placed them after ours. Went up to find out what was going on and our order was sitting on the counter getting cold. Asked one of the workers about the delay and he didn’t know what happened. Got our order and all the fixin’s and went back to our table. The side order of fried zucchini had about 6 fried mushrooms and a few french fries with it. If I order fried zucchini, shouldn’t that be all I receive? At the fixin’s bar, both ketchup containers were almost empty and one was full of lettuce! Guess nostalgia can influence your present food decisions. Love how the hipster-slacker attitude has ruined this once great place. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

This is one of our favorite stops in Flagstaff and I have been coming here for over 10 years. Catchy name Decent prices I would rate it higher if it was just a little cleaner… The condiment area has always been messy and just not as fresh as it could be.

Solid burger, despite the dreary atmosphere. I’d give it 4 stars if not for the fact that there was no steak for steak sandwiches when I came, and it was pretty disappointing to have a whole category of food unavailable. I walked in here during a trip through Flagstaff, and I immediately was skeptical of the food we would be getting. The place looks like it hasn’t been updated in any meaningful way in a couple of decades. It isn’t the cleanest-looking place, and I just wasn’t very excited about it. I ordered up front and got the chicken fiesta sandwich, no bun. They were very accommodating of the request. I also got a side salad from the salad bar. The salad bar was certainly nothing special, but it had relatively fresh ingredients and a couple of dressing options. I liked the little salad I made for myself – certainly better than a lot of the house salads out there at much nicer restaurants. Once I got my breadless sandwich, I was actually a little excited. I got my toppings from the bar – I appreciated that they had jalapenos available. The chicken was pretty well-cooked, the peppers on the sandwich were tasty, and the cheese added nicely to the flavors. I ended up enjoying the sandwich thoroughly. The star of the meal was probably the fries I stole from some of my family members with me. They were delicious! Nice and crispy on the outside. None of that frozen fries stuff. Really good. Next time I’m in Flagstaff, I hope that I’m in the mood for a steak sandwich and that they actually have some steak available, because I’d like to try this place again. Maybe then I’ll re-look at this rating.

Like another review said when its your first time here and you order your food your given a ticket and told to wait to be called, but until then you sorta just sit down with money in hand thinking do they wanna get paid? The food is all al le cart so no combo’s here. If you want a full meal like a drink, burger and fries its up to 12.50! They have a variety of different burgers and chicken items as long as onion rings and your normal food. Also they let you build your own sandwhich with a fixxin’s bar with a small selection of cut veggies and spreads. I ordered the Cajun chicken sandwhich and let me tell you they put almost a hand full of seasonings on it and they pounded the chicken down to tiny mortals which left me dumbfounded! So the food was so-so and the prices are strap. I might give them one more try if im in town to see other items.
