As far as Dickey’s goes, this location met all expectations. My order was prepared fast and completely accurately. The quality of the food was about what we expected. The ribs were a little old, but this was around 7pm. The staff was very friendly, especially who I perceived to be the manager. Though this location is a bit of a drive, we may visit it occasionally.

This place is the crap. 15.00 for a 3 meat plate, and they are very stingy with the portions. One side of BBQ and the girl behind the counter was to focused on how much she put in my order. Very ashamed to call this our BBQ restaurant in my neighborhood. The Banana pudding was nasty, with old sliced banana’s on top. NEVER will I spend my hard earn money on this crap. BTW I’m sure all those Mexicans that you have working there take more food home to their family than you sell.

It’s good, but it can get chaotic and they had a hard time keeping track of what was a drive thru order and an inside order, then they couldn’t keep our inside order together after multiple inquires. I like the barbecue, though am disappointed this location has steak fries over waffle fries.

Absolutely pitiful. I have been going here for years, but will not return. The portions seem to be getting smaller, and the prices higher. It just isn’t worth it anymore. I got a 2 meat platter and sides, and paid $ 14!!! When I got home with my order, it was cold, and I only live 2 miles away… Don’t waste your time or money.

Average quality bbq. Rate between 2 and 3stars. I tried the pulled pork during this visit. The staff keep location very clean. Our kids enjoyed the food more than me Free ice cream is a draw for the young kids

As far as a restaurant chain BBQ Dickeys Barbecue Pit is about as good as its going to get. Texas has alot of competition when it comes to BBQ. Dickeys BBQ always satisfies and the staff is always great. No the meat is not cooked on an outside pit but an inside oven. Still it is good BBQ for a chain.

The Spicy Cheddar Sausage is amazing. As is the customer service. I had only been in this location once a couple weeks ago and had asked for a military discount, when I came back a couple weeks later, the guy remembered the discount. Great job!

My rating is for the one at 407 and garden ridge, adjacent to wal-mart neighborhood market. Would have reviewed that location of they had one on here. Totally terrible. Food terrible, service terrible… you name it terrible. Went in at 6 p.m. Friday night. Had to repeat the orders three times each(two of us), told them«to go» multiple times, half of the sides listed on the board, «uhhhh, we don’t have»…food was stone cold when we got home, Couldn’t have been more than two or three minutes…(it’s a ten minute walk from our house)…even the quality of the food was not good… overly fatty meat, while it was dry at the same time. All this for over $ 10for a plate??? Don’t waste your time or money.

For a place with lots of locations, you wonder if authentic flavor and quality of real bbq will be there, this location has it. Consistently good brisket, had lean sliced brisket sandwich today, jalapeño beans and hot bbq sauce were a bit off, normally better. For a multi location chain outfit, these guys usually get it right.

This Dickey’s is a regular with our family. The servers are friendly, the food is fast, and it is always consistent.

Average. BBQ is probably cooked elsewhere and sent here to be prepped. There’s no smokey smell and the brisket lacked the pink ring that hours over slow cooking oak and hickory bring. Big selection of sides. Dressing for Caesar salad sitting in an unchilled squeeze bottle — sure way to get food borne illness. Free dinner for kids on a Friday night was a welcome surprise. The Unilocal offer was for free ice cream — but not really a deal since everyone got free ice cream. It’s soft serve out of some weird dairy mix. It doesn’t really fit into a place that wants to offer fresh and local food, if that’s part of Dicky’s interest.

BBQ is pretty easy to get right, in my mind. Cook all the normal meats perfectly. Add in some good sides, nice desert and you’re all set. What makes a place better than just ok? Great meat, tasty sauce and excellent customer service. As much as I want to rate this Dickey’s higher, it fails on being better than average. The best thing going here are their specials where you can get a good meal on the cheap. Thats where this place shines. Don’t expect large portions or taste bud exploding seasoning or bbq sauce. Good bbq cheap if you pull the trigger on a special. Otherwise, you might be spending a little more than you’d want for«fast foodish» bbq. The brisket is tasty and moist but overcooked to the point that it wont hold up to slicing. Falls apart into shredded brisket which still tastes good but if you’re looking for sliced, this don’t get it. Liked Good specials like $ 5 Westerner sando on Monday 32 oz Big Gulp for my sweet tea fix! Brisket Spicy hot links Jalapeño beans Free ice cream for dine ins Visited first time it reopened after burning down and all hands were on deck/Seemed like a family run business which I like Spicy bbq sauce is good Disliked Check out staff seem a little out of it/certainly disengaged and not sure if they know much about the menu or business Order was wrong 2x Green beans with bacon were somehow bland Standard bbq sauce is a little on the thin side Overall good place to eat. Decent prices and food is good. Business could be better with a few tweaks but as a chain establishment, I’m good with it.

Dickey’s BBQ is a great CHAINBBQ joint. I want to emphasize this point because I feel for a a large chain restaurant, Dickey’s does an exceptional job of maintaining a delicious product that is pretty consistent in taste and quality from location to location. I would not compare this BBQ joint to a specialty craft type BBQ establishment, because quite frankly that’s just not fair. That is also not the«niche» that Dickey’s is trying to occupy. If I were to rate this on a «all restaurants and food establishments scale» — I give it a 3.5. If I were to rate this on a «fast food type restaurant scale» — I give Dickey’s a FULL5STARS! :-) This location is clean, nicely decorated to make you feel like your at a «real» Texas BBQ joint. Staff are warm and friendly. Food is good, and normally very fresh, but if you get something you don’t like… they’ll switch it out for something else. Prices are expensive for being a «medium food» restaurant(not slow restaurant sit down and made to order food and not fast food… somewhere in between. You like that? I just made it up. Yes, I can be clever at times. Others times… not so much. Whoops, side tracking!) They have daily specials and discounts, and kids eat free on certain days(sorry I don’t have these days/specials memorized to list off for you… but if I did, you might worry about my cholesterol). So, if you come and order the daily or lunch special, prices are reasonable. I’m a big fan of the pulled pork sandwiches, and although I don’t know what day of the week(see update below) that is on special for $ 2, last time I saw the sign out front displaying $ 2 pulled pork sandwiches, I *may* have agressively cut across traffic, nearly causing a collision… but it was a BBQ induced moment of temporary insanity. I was hungry people, and I’m a tight wad! ;-) Every day,(for dine in only) FREE ice cream and FREE Pickle, Pepper, Condiment Bar. Unlimited refills on drinks, including delicious sweet tea. Unlimited BBQ sauce bar, with«Spicy», «Regular», and«Sweet» Varieties. Everything I have order thus far I have enjoyed, with the exception of the peach cobbler. It’s okay, but its more like a soggy peach crumble, not like cobbler in my opinion which should have pie dough like layers and/or top. It was edible, and slightly enjoyable, but NOT at all worth the HIGH price for a TINY serving of soggy, gelatinous, peachy, mush. DAILYSPECIALS(As of Aug 2011 — Subject to Change): Monday — $ 2 Pulled Pork Sandwich; Half Chicken Plate $ 6.99 Tuesday — Seniors Day(10% off); Ribs Plate $ 8.99 Wednesday — Kids Eat FREE!; Chicken Breast Plate $ 7.99 Thursday — 2 Pulled Pork Tacos for $ 3; Turkey Plate $ 7.99 Friday — Catfish Plate $ 9.99; Beef & Sausage Plate $ 8.99 Saturday — Pulled Pork & Sandwich Plate $ 7.99; Chicken Fried Steak $ 7.99 Sunday — Kids eat FREE!; Chicken Fried Steak $ 7.99

Let’s face it — BBQ in Texas is something of a religion, and everyone has their own denomination — a preference of sauce flavor, portions, and more. And a lot of the Texas BBQ is done best by the non-corporate-chains… like Angelo’s in Fort Worth or Dripping Springs BBQ(in Dripping Springs, on the road to Fredericksburg). I find it interesting that other corporate BBQ actually exists in Texas — for example the one with the neon pigs playing guitars and their brown-sugar-soaked sauce, which is NOT Texas BBQ. But I digress. Personally, Dickey’s is okay in a pinch, or for catering at a corporate picnic. But compared to other Texas based chains — like Colters — Dickeys falls short. The portions are tiny compared to most other BBQ places. The sauce seems like something generic out of a bottle — no particular zip(compared to other places, chains or non-corporate). Call it a matter of taste. I know there are many who prefer Dickeys over other places for taste, but I feel in the chain BBQ arena, Colters comes out far ahead, in flavor, portions, just about everything. Again, it’s just a matter of personal taste, and Dickeys is just barely«Texas» BBQ with generic flavor and small portions and large prices. Guess it beats McRibs in a pinch, but I would rather go a couple extra miles to a Colters or Angelo’s for the real deal. Mark Robbins
