Despite its diminutive exterior, newish digs, and semi-prominent awning, it still feels a little too easy to miss E Pie. For one, the sign is easier to see across the street than on the same side and the menu isn’t exactly enticing enough to warrant a stop. The window is drive-thru-esque, minus the car traffic, but instead the people traffic of Roosevelt. Much like its über simple décor, the menu is comprised of stuffed meat wraps(or pies) that range from $ 1.50-$ 2.50. While I prefer lamb in most scenarios, I am relatively impressed with the beef and its general heartiness. They also sell sweet pies as well, sporting flavors like mungbean and bean paste. An initial warning, these pies are a mess to eat. Unlike Aussie meatpies where the stuffing is typically drier, these Chino versions are juicy and leak all over like a baby without a diaper. Ask for extra napkins and be prepared for the subsequent squirt. The ladies manning the window are usually rolling dough and one person us taking orders and money. English might be a foregone conclusion, just be prepared to point if your Chino game isn’t on par. They close at 8pm, which is a slight bummer considering their proximity to the subway and the fact few other nearby bizes are open late. They could take a page from New Flushing Bakery( ), which is only a few steps away.

Had their fresh made cumin lamb pie. It wasn’t spicy and it was delicious. Inside, the pie is juicy, caution not to drip.

I came across this store while finding what breakfast food to get while going to work. So sick of those regular bakery breads and buns. Ordered a juicy beef bunbun and it was so good! It keep me full until lunch time! I gotta warn you guys one thing though when you eat this, make sure you drink all the juice inside as soon you can or else they’re gonna leak into your clothes!

Meh, it’s basically a closet that sells food. The place is a window right next to the Dunkin Donuts on Roosevelt. The window sells these Chinese type savory or sweet buns, but I have only tried the savory. I have been here twice and I really wasn’t that impressed with either trip. Also, I was like Sahara Desert thirsty after I ate the bun, might be an indication of a usage of a certain taboo Chinese ingredient, if you know what I am sayin, sayin. The food: Cumin lamb– I thought the flavor was great but I was not a fan of the dough, it was oddly chewy. The lamb had good flavor and was juicy but the bun… Ugh, the bun. Also, the buns are oddly juicy so be careful while you are chomping away, it literally shoots out if you are not careful. Juicy beef– the beef was just OK. The dough was not great. I prefer the lamb. Stewed drumstick– I guess it has been simmering forever since it was on the salty side and the drumstick was no teeth required tender but in a bad way. The chicken had not bite to it. It was so cooked down that it was dry inside.

Minus a star for their *slight* greasiness – oil pools in the bottom of them. Still, I could eat a handful of these in one sitting. The cumin lamb is my favorite – really flavorful(the sweet rice one was mostly forgettable). Super cheap and right by the 7 train(next to the DD).

A small hole in the wall, with enticing pictures of delicious $ 2 pies, that looks good walking by, who wouldn’t want to try? My husband and I got the Lamb Pie, looked pretty promising! Beware: your first bite into it will release a gushing oily liquid substance bursting out of the pie(that may just ruin your jacket)! I felt that the pie crust was tough and hard to bite into… not the crispy soft dough I had imagined. The lamb also had a weird taste to it and I just couldn’t enjoy the overall pie. My husband didn’t like it either and we ended up not eating it. Overall, I felt the pie was very greasy and hard to chew. Probably not a place I would want to try again.

I was recommended by a friend to try out this place in Flushing, I really don’t know how I keep missing the place but then realized E Pie is literally a ticket sales booth in the wall. Just look for the Dunkin Donut on Roosevelt and Main street and it’s right next to it. They offer no seats so just order it and go! I came here the day after Christmas around 12:30pm or so. There were 2 people in front of me. I ordered the beef and red bean pie but because I was super full from dimsum in the morning, I took them home and ate it about 1 hour later. Now maybe it would be better if I ate it immediately but after 1 hour later and not warming it up. I thought the pie was just okay, the crust was a little tough while the dough inside was soggy. While I didn’t really like the pie to meat ratio(75% dough and 25% meat). The flavor on the beef was good though! The red bean one was better since it wasn’t soggy on the inside, they were very generous with the red bean filling and it was pretty much stuffed throughout the pie. however the crust on the outside was still a bit hard for my taste. Price: My two pies came out to be $ 3.50, so not bad at all considering you can get full from probably 1 or 2 of these. Overall: I will need to revisit E Pie again for a more thorough review and this time I will try to eat the pie right away and see if it makes a big different because eating it an hour later definitely wasn’t good. and if you getting the beef or lamb, make sure to not eat it on public transportation because the smell could get you in trouble ;)

This hole in the wall sells something unique which is Chinese style baked dough with both savory and sweet fillings. After walking by many times, I have to admit the weird name got to me and I decided to give it a try. The cumin lamb seemed to be a popular choice amongst Unilocalers so I decided to give it a shot. Like many other reviews, it was warm, juicy and a lot messier than one would imagine. The meat was cooked well in mine and the dough was just the right consistency. If I had to describe to taste, it tasted something like a gyro put inside a Chinese bun. It sounds weird but it tastes pretty good. I can see how this place can be hit or miss but the time I went it was good enough for me to come back and try again.

My first time trying these delicious pies, I honestly had no idea what I was getting myself into. Any one trying these will be disappointed if they go in with expectations. You’ll never expect the bread to be so firm, you’ll never expect that cumin kick on the cumin lamb e-pie to hit you in the face, and never expect the juicy goodness to end up all over if you aren’t taking careful and calculated bites. the prices vary depending on the filling. I personally like the Juicy Beef, and Cumin Lamb. The only down side to this place is that the temperature on the e-pies are not consistent. One time i got one that was super fresh and it was the best, the next time it was luke-warm and not so good. However, you can alway give it a few seconds in the microwave ;-)

E Pie. Could be Enormous Pie. Could be Error Pie. Definitely, inconsistent. I ordered a few pies and at the time I also wanted to ordered the red bean pie but they ran out. ***They make enough pies to fit the 3 slots in their small oven warmer to keep the pies fresh and warm. After that it is either a 10 – 15 minute wait as they make the pies fresh again. This fresh to order strategy is enough to make me want to make a return visit*** 1) Cumin Lamb($ 2.50) — The minute you bite into this pie the oily«soup» that comes out in your mouth will pretty much run any chance of you liking this meat pie. That is assuming that you didn’t ruin your outfit by «accidentally» eating it in your hands hoping that the thin foils that holds the pie will hold the oily juices. It will not. No kidding. There was also a patch of rare meat that wasn’t fully cooked which leads me to believe that the oven they use either cooks unevenly or they just don’t rotate the pies. Either way, I wouldn’t test that theory again. Final note, it was NOT spicy at all. 2) Chicken($ 1.75) — This was a plain, grounded chicken meat made into a patty. Underwhelming. 3) Beef($ 2.00) — This blended ground meat patty was DEFINITELY red and undercooked. I think pink is the better color scale but either way it was undercooked. The only thing that this place has going for them is the price which ranges from $ 1.50 — $ 2.50 depending on which pie you choose. I might come back to try the red bean pie but highly unlikely return visit by all accounts.

Cheap little ‘pies’. I recommend the beef or pork. It’s super juicy and the dough is chewy and soft. If you add a bit of chili oil. it would be perfect

The black sticky rice: one star Juicy beef: blizzion stars Juicy Cumin lamb: 4.5 stars I have yet to try them all but by far I love their juicy beef pie. Becareful because first its hot, its overflowing with juice, and its so taste that you would cry once you realize theres no more. Its like eating a pancake version of a soup dumpling. Except its crispy on the outside inside of it being soft. Pricing is ok. Its 2 bucks for a juicy beef, 2.50 for lamb, 1.50 for black sticky rice. But its worth it!

E-Pie is my new Flushing spot. At this point, I’ve tried every pie! For me, the dough is what makes these pies so great. They’re ever-so-slightly crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, followed by a sweet or savory filling. The Black Sticky Rice and Red Bean sweet varieties are my favorite(no surprise), but the meat-filled savory ones are delicious too. They’re located right outside the Main St. stop so it’s impossible for me to pass by without picking something up– especially since they all cost about 2 bucks, and they taste just as good when reheated the next day!

Update update! As promised! I am updating since I was able to get the black sticky rice pie!!! I wanted to grab a little something since it just finished my Lab on a Sunday and wanted to head home(no plans… exam the next day… sigh) So decided on a Lamb and another. There was a line and I saw that there was one sticky rice left! In my mind: «YES!!! You SHALLBEMINE!!!» that dream was shattered when the guy in front of me ordered it and took what was mine!!! :( So I was up and ordered the lamb and was going to get a chicken too! BUT decided to ask how long it would take before the sticky rice would be out. Was told in 5 minutes and I was willing to wait. So once they were out I got the first one! HAHAHAHAHAAAA!!! Ate my pies on the train– lamb was good as usual and they were juicy. I had to be careful… a little spilled on my jacket… but still good!(the lamb pie) Now comes the rice pie! It was still toasty when I ate it. A bit chewy and a bit crispy and the filling was just right. Not too overly filled so nothing spilled at all! The rice was surprisingly not blend, it had a little bit of sweetness. Once again, like their red bean it wasn’t too sweet and it’s great. I see why they would run out fast since older people would like it. It seems like they would make about 4 pies at a time. You will be sure that they make it since you see the guy(well i saw a guy this time) so they be fresh!!!

Slightly expensive for a tiny pie, but worth the try. I highly recommend the JUICYBEEF! Beef, beef, beef — It is bursting with beef flavor. Hot seller. Eat it while it’s still hot, fresh out of the oven. Tip: Be careful while eating because the pie is full of juice inside! Note: Take out only. No seating area.

Simply said… these guys are geniuses… the food… so authentic and Asian-nesk? It’s something you would find in China for sure. Definitely one of a kind. I recommend it to anyone who’s getting off the 7 train and just want something to munch on. Be warned… ALL their pies. GUSHJUICESOUT! So if your wearing something nice… please… be careful. It squirts a little. so bite slowly! Lolz.

Delicious chinese«pies». I loved the texture of the bun. Tasted and smelled good. Must get the juicy beef. Packed with flavor and juice so be careful when eating, have tons of napkins ready! Love that its right outside the train station. This is just a small stand, a quick grab and go kind of place.

About a 4.5: E-Pie seems to be this new little ‘carry-out’ type of joint, a few steps from the 7 Train in Flushing, off of Roosevelt. It may be hard to miss, unless you are on the lookout for their 2 yellow standing menus outside the door. They offer 6 different types of ‘pies’ — the doughy exterior kind of reminds me of a Korean hodduk, with a slightly chewiness to it. The fillings that are offered are: beef, pork, chicken, cumin lamb, sweet red bean, and black sticky rice. Everything is made on premise, as you can see some of the older ladies in the back, rolling out the dough and putting the filling in by hand. Being that the pie itself is only $ 1.50($ 2 with tax), I tried out their ‘Juicy Beef.’ The exterior had slight grill marks and had a little crunch, but it was still chewy; the inside was a patty of ground beef, but seasoned well. It was quite juicy, and it reminded me of a flattened beef bun(Taiwanese). I bet it would have been even more awesome with soy sauce/chili oil, but it was a great little handsnack. Cute little place: D +Juicy Beef ‘pie’
