Sun Rise is a locally-owned place serving classic diner food, with standby breakfast and lunch offerings(nothing too crazy or unique). Sun Rise is very customer-friendly, quickly recognizing regulars(even posting their pics in the past). My dad was a long-time customer at Sun Rise at its old location, before he passed away, and it is comforting to see his headshot retained in a collage at Sun Rise’s newer Pine Valley location. Great customer service aside, Sun Rise’s food is just okay, nothing mind-blowing. Some of the items don’t seem entirely made from scratch, but they are made well, served hot and efficiently. Prices are fairly cheap and the portions are huge, so you get a lot of bang for your buck… the Hoosier way. I recommend the avocado and bacon omelet, spruced up with hot sauce. The hash browns were okay and the side of fruit had more diversity than expected, low on the honeydew(I’ll bash reject-honeydew at any opportunity). Most other items tasted average, not bad… again, nothing that stood out. However, if you are looking for hot, lovingly-made breakfast that will satisfy every palate, Sun Rise is a good place to visit with a large group of family or friends. If I was responsible for breakfast plans for a group of cheap, picky eaters, I’d take them to Sun Rise.

Love this place. Excellent breakfast. Eggs, toast hashbrowns. Hashbrowns were crispy and NOT greasy. Toast was pre buttered… Even the coffee is good. Loved the simple Midwest décor. The staff literally could not be nicer. Even the owner stopped by to thank us for dining. We came here twice while visiting Ft Wayne. Solid place. Highly recommend.

I had a hamburger and their ham and bean soup. Both were excellent. The service was fast and friendly. I always like it when the waitress automatically brings me a refill in a to go cup when I am finished.

Excellent spot for breakfast. Big kitchen staff, so the food comes out fast. If you’re traveling on I 69 it’s just a short jog off the freeway. Sit in Rose’s section, she’s a hoot. Tried some of the skillets and the pancakes. Both were excellent.

I’ve been to the Sunrise Café many times for breakfast with family and friends. It’s a great place for the usual breakfast fare. The staff if usually very attentive and friendly, but we have noted the it depends upon timing of the visit. The food is good, like I said, usual comfort food breakfast fare. We enjoy the southern breakfast or a good plain waffle, nicely prepared. If you want a real«volume» food experience try one of the skillets. You’ll be sure to go home with leftovers.

I used to come here weekly with my grandpa and former husband. The place has a «Cheers”-like atmosphere which rocks. My grandpa was such a regular he was able to get the owner to add beef & noodles over mashed potatoes to the menu(one of Grandpa’s favorites). The past 5 years I’ve been moving around the country and now that I’m back I’m grateful to still have this restaurant around(especially now that it’s not such a pain to hang a left when leaving the lot). My favorite waitresses are still there(and they actually recognized me despite my hair going from pink back to brunette) and the restaurant’s still under the same awesome management. My aunt gave me a $ 25 gift certificate here and I’ve been able to purchase 4 meals with the card and there’s still money left. True story, folks. I took my boyfriend to Sun Rise for the first time today and he slammed on the Hawaii Five-O omelet. I have made a convert out of him and am grateful I don’t have to worry about him dragging me off to Hall’s ever again after we’ve had a night out with our posse. Everything I’ve ever had at Sun Rise as an ovo-lacto vegetarian has been great. I think the only way I could think to improve the place is if they’d add vegetarian meat options.

Canned hash browns, week coffee, and poor quality ingredients. Service was OK. Overall experience… Not good.

Wonderful place for breakfast! Staff is friendly, service is great and food is wonderful. They accommodate large groups as well. They have a great selection of breakfast items, from egg and meat plates, skillets, pancakes, omelets, etc. They also serve lunch and dinner, but breakfast is my favorite here.

The unpretentious breakfast joint. A rarity it seems in the age of concept heavy strip mall restaurants. Sun Rise Café is a classic greasy spoon with all the dishes you would expect to see. I came here searching for my self-destructive breakfast obsession, chicken fried steak. There’s come with a nice white creamy sausage gravy that just screams ‘please plug up my arteries now!’. Oh but its so tasty, stick to your ribs stuff. I wish the size were a little bigger but that’s probably a good thing. It comes with a side of hash browns which were sufficiently extra crispy as requested and two sunny side up eggs with toast. My coffee cup was never empty and I felt the service to be personable and friendly. Kind of makes me want to be a regular. Their hours are pretty limited 6am to 9pm week days(be sure to call). Also weekends(be sure to call) Which is limited, I wish they were open for late night foraging. Unilocal note: I know that reviewing a place, after it has received a few reviews cases it to loose it’s ‘cool’ factor. But I did order something other than what others had.

I concur with Patty N’s review… a very nice, locally owned and run place with reasonably priced, good food. I just went there for breakfast this morning(Sunday, 2÷27÷11) with some friends. I had the«Two eggs & bacon or sausage links(with hash browns and toast or pancakes)» for $ 5.39.(I had sausage links and raisin toast… the sausages were slightly over browned, but the raisin toast was good). Service was good and fast, although the food was slightly cool. Recommended! Edited 3÷9÷11: They have a new address: 10230 Coldwater Rd., where the«Fish of Stroh» used to be, near the«A+ Computers», «Great Wall II Buffet», and«Rustic Hutch», and«License Bureau». ALSO: They do have free Wi-Fi. The passcode is their new phone number 260−416−0400(without the dashes«-»). Edited 3÷19÷11: Their current hours are Mon-Sat 6:00AM-9:00PM, Sun 6:00AM-3:00PM

This restaurant recently relocated to a larger space in the Pine Valley shopping center, so service was a little on the slow side, but give them a little time and it will pick up. The menu has expanded from just breakfast and lunch items since they are now open until 9:00 pm. Among other added menu items, they have shrimp, steak, roast beef and turkey manhattens, beef and noodles over mashed potatoes, pork chops, fried chicken and fish, and to my delight a great grilled tilapia. I love the comfort food that they are serving — but being able to order a healthy grilled tilapia dinner for only $ 9.99 is awesome. All of their prices are very reasonable. They usually have a nightly special that includes 2 side items. Sun Rise staff is soooo friendly. You really feel like family here. The owner is very attentive to the quality of food that is being served and has made good choices in the expansion of their menu. They are located in the midst of a pizza place and Chinse, Mexican and Italian restaurants. They are not trying to be any of these other places, but are trying to be just themselves. I can’t get this good all american comfort food at any of these other places, and they are not trying copy the other local establishments –if I want Chinese, I will go to the Chinese place and so on. They have hired extra staff, which is much needed due to the larger space and expanded hours. They have a room in the back that is opened on the weekend mornings, and that can seat larger partys, or perhaps even host a private event? They have their usual breakfasts that are served all day, and 2 soups on the menu that change daily. I am so glad this place expanded — I can come here after work and get a good meal for a very reasonable price and enjoy the companionship of my fellow diners and the staff. They really appreciate their customers and it shows. I like to support a locally owned restaurant that appreciates my business.
