My favorite breakfast joint. :) very tasty food. There’s something about businesses owned by those who served that gives off this comforting vibe. Whether it be Bastard’s in Downey or here. It’s a very cozy and inviting atmosphere. At least for me

I wouldn’t even give this place a 1 star !!! Very bad service and racist people we were waiting for 1 hour and they kept sitting other people instead of my family and my brother in law told her why she didn’t sit us when we have been waiting and she said she didn’t see us so he told her just cuz we are Mexican or what and she said she’s Mexican too just because she married a Mexican doesn’t mean she’s Mexican! They act like they are the best just because they were shown in a tv show doesn’t mean anything if they are giving bad service and being racist Never coming to this place again !!!

Came here for breakfast specifically for their delicious biscuits and gravy! Pauls is the best and I cannot find any other place that can compare to their mouthwatering biscuits and the delicious gravy poured on top! That being said, there isn’t really anything super special about any other menu item. I ordered the eggs Benedict during this past visit and the ham was very thick and did not have much flavor. The hollandaise sauce they pour over the dish tastes super lemony and, in a way, spoils the whole thing. They also burned the English muffin so that completely spoiled it all. The hash browns were good though! Nice and crispy. I should have just been safe and ordered the waffle like I normally do when I come here. They never ruin that! Overall, I mainly just come here for their biscuits and gravy. Nothing else really pops out. The service is only decent, you see a bunch of ladies standing around but they don’t really seem to care much for their job and they bring the check almost immediately after the food is served, which I do find odd. I will continue to come back, only because I can’t find another place that has better biscuits and gravy!

The chicken fried steak is just evil it’s so good. It can feed a family of four or one fat guy like me. You have to try it once in your life as long as your cholesterol is good.

I’m a Marine Corps Vet, so I’d love to love this place, but unfortunately the food is average at best. It’s been on triple D, but who can really believe what Guy Fieri says on that show. The atmosphere is good with military memorabilia everywhere. The staff is friendly and down to earth. Not a place that comes to mind when I want a great breakfast more like a place to go out of convenience when I’m ok for diner food.

Husband had breakfast burrito and I had French toast. Both were amazing. Atmosphere was great with all US Military stuff.

We enjoyed our first visit to this diner. We both had breakfast dishes that involved the country gravy and it was very good. Also, the coffee was very good. Very efficient and friendly service. Our server checked on us numerous times to make sure everything was OK. We will definitely be back to this restaurant again in the near future.

Love this place! They’re all about supporting our veterans. Food is always quick and great, huge portions. If you are hungry for breakfast this is the place to try! My husband always orders their famous chicken fried steak, I’ve tried pancakes and omelette, they never disappoint. You can also bring in a framed picture of any veteran to honor them and they will hang it on their wall!

Enjoyed the military ambiance at Paul’s Coffee Shop, our service was great, but the food was just average. I could have had a similar meal at a Denny’s or a Norm’s for half the price. My husband ordered the Portuguese sausage breakfast and enjoyed it because he loves greasy, salty food slathered with gravy. I ordered the French toast combo and ended up with soggy, limp bacon, and mediocre French toast. I appreciate the restaurant’s tribute to those who have served or are serving in our military, but I don’t think I’ll be back for the food.

Best bring your appetites!!! This place doesn’t have large servings they have HUGE servings!!! we arrived at about 1pm on a Sunday and I believe they close at 2, there was no waiting and we were seated immediately. I enjoyed all the military memorabilia. This food is amazing. Awesome gravy and the chicken fried steak was fantastic. This was my first time here and I will definitely be back. $ 14.99 for so much food the waitress was right when she asked if we wanted to split a plate. I am very picky when it comes to country gravy, but I would give it 4 stars, would have been 5 stars if the gravy had been made from drippings, but I understand that you drop fry your steak and not pan fry so there aren’t any drippings to make the gravy with. Still wonderful food and our waitress was amazing! The guy came around and refilled our tea about every 2 drinks lol I am not kidding. Just wonderful food and awesome customer service! A+

I’ve been here a couple of times. This review is a bit late but better than never. This place is nice and small in a decent plaza. It has a lot of military memorabilia, which is cool since they support the men and women who served our country. 1. Service was okay. 2. Food is okay. Seems like things has changed over time with how they cook things. Only thing I usually come for is the chicken fried steak now. 3. Ambiance okay. 4. Seating is decent, if you want to not wait as long for a table if it’s just two ppl, ask if they have available stool/bar sitting & make sure you order after they bring the drinks or else it feels like they forget about you and take a while to grab your order. Good thing I’m patient & wasn’t too hungry so waiting a bit was okay but honestly… I prefer a table cause they seem to get you a bit faster for some reason. Overall, it’s close to home & convenient if I can’t think of anywhere else to go for breakfast but wouldn’t be my first choice.

If you visit Paul’s you had better bring your appetite with you. I like large portions of food but Paul’s more than delivers on their commitment to get everyone full. The gargantuan portions can stuff the biggest of men. This Marine Corps themed diner was featured on Diners Drive Ins and Dives. Guy Fieri’s signature is on the wall commemorating his visit. This is my favorite breakfast spot in Orange County because the service is warm, the food tasty, and diners receive a lot of bang for their buck. Paul’s has a welcoming un-pretentious vibe, it’s got a down home feel that isn’t easy to come by. The restaurant is clean enough that a hardened germaphobe should feel comfortable eating here. Truth be told, I have only ever ordered the chicken fried steak from Paul’s. Even a big guy will be able to split an order of Paul’s chicken fried steak with someone else and leave full. When the chicken fried steak first hits the table it looks enormous because the batter forms a puffed crust that in many places separates from the entire steak. Crunching through the crispy batter reminds me of the satisfaction I get popping bubble wrap. The country gravy that is liberally applied to the chicken fried steak tastes like a country gravy should, it is not chalky or pasty, it’s just right. Accompanying the behemoth chicken fired steak is a serving of home fries, a side of eggs, and a biscuit smothered in more country gravy. These sides add up to a meal in and of itself. A patron is in my view getting two and a half meals in one sitting. If I were to leave one criticism it would be that they don’t serve real maple syrup. However, this is a Marine Corps themed restaurant and I believe the aim is to deliver chow that takes military men back to their days of active duty.

I love the atmosphere and military memorabilia. The Korean waitress is annoying. She messed up my order and started to argue what i ordered. I along with others want to return but are apprehensive because of her. If she ever leaves… we’ll be back. We also ordered a chicken fried steak that was almost the size of the plate. It deflated immed upin digging into it. It was not appetizing. I think it was better when Paul owned it.

I might be a bit biased because of the name of the place, but it is pretty good! The last three times I visited the area, I made an effort to come here for breakfast. I always get three sides, French Toast, scrambled eggs and corned beef hash. I make little sandwiches out of them, to the dismay of my girlfriend. The flavors are always there, not too salty, but just sweet enough. The service is pretty good too! Seems like the same people from what I have gathered. They are friendly and if you are a regular, which I wish I was, they seem to know you well. I would suggest this place to anyone for a quick bite to looking for a place to relax for a bit.

My wife saw this place on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, so we had high expectations. And let me tell you, expectations met! The portions were huge, the chicken fried steak was super flavorful. The eggs were perfectly cooked(not overdone like most places). The home fries were awesome, crunchy on the outside and moist inside with peppers and onions mixed in. They did not have a kids menu though, but our kids(10 and 4) split a pancake, egg and bacon breakfast(they even split it evenly on two different plates. Definitely coming back when we travel in this area.

From the outside this place looks like a hole in the wall… and it is! But it is delicious and well worth it… The staff is super friendly and gave us the pick of the tables. We picked a booth & they brought us water. The loco moco is amazing… white rice topped with a large beef patty, fried egg and thick flavorful brown gravy. It was bomb! I also tried the steak with fried egg which was flavorful and bloody just like we like it.

Like most of everyone else, I ventured here because DDD featured this local spot in OC. Arrived on a Sunday to a not so bad 10 – 15 min wait, which turned out to be much shorter. We tried the following: — Moco Loco — Chicken Fried Steak — Portuguese sausage — French Toast — Short Stack My take on the Moco loco is that the gravy was amazing, the hamburger patty left a lot to be desired as it was under seasoned and lacked oomph. The rice was too soggy and didn’t soak up the gravy as I had wanted it to. The chicken fried steak looked impressive when it hit the table, however don’t be fooled by the size alone. The steak wasn’t crispy as one would expect and the gravy was a tad too salty for my taste. My little girls loved their french toast and pancakes so I’d get those again in a flash. Our most favorite part of the brunch was the sausage, it was had a delectable smoked flavor while the fat content and spice factor were perfect. I’d definitely go back for the sausage and try out a few of the other dishes. A locals favorite, it’s not just the food that makes this place a fun place its the ambiance and nostalgia.

This place was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives for all the right reasons! For one, it is a diner. This diner is definitely a locals spot. It’s small, open for lunch+ breakfast. I’d come here for breakfast over Dennys/Norms ALLDAYERRDAY. the place is much cleaner, the people are much friendlier and the food is MUCHBETTER! I kid you not, beware the country fried steak breakfast feeds two.(maybe even 3) The steak is twice as big as my face. Usually I order that or the corned beef hash with well done home fries :)) if you’re looking for a comforty breakfast, this is it!
