PLEASENOTE: This place closed as of two weeks ago. It is now Fremont Afghan Restaurant and THEEBEST Afghan food we’ve ever had. No Indian or Pakistani food just authentic Afghani menu. Balni, Borani Kadoo and Shor Nakhud appetizers were scrumptious! Qabili Palau and Roasted Lamb entrees were very impressive. YOUWILLNOTBEDISAPPOINTED.

Closed at this location as of October 2014. Closed, out if business, not there. Unilocal insists that this review is a certain length, so I’m obviously padding to make it longer.

Went here for Iftar dinner with friends… Was skeptical at first since it claims afghan indian and paki but I am really impressed. Great food, very courteous staff and just the right quantity. Going back here for sure and may even up it to 5 stars

I have been here with my friends for lunch. Here is my review for this place: 1. Look: 3 starts. It was not dirty(quite ok) but the decoration and view made us feel this place is somewhat old and not clean. 2. Food: 4 starts. I like the Goat curry and the Cheese Naan and Garlic Naan. The portion is ok too. 3. Service: 2 starts. Probably this place is a self-serve. In that case the restaurant should have someways to inform the customers. There was only 1 guy there and we had to took water and forks all by ourselves. 4. Smell: usually Indian restaurants have good smell from the food and spices. This place didnt have any Indian smell.

This is my first review. People have given 2 stars, I am not sure why on earth you would do that. T ordered Chicken seekh Kabab, and they are the best kabab i tried in US. I travel, similar kind of kababs are in UK. You guys rock. Keep it up.

This place is really an ignored one. Not sure about the bad reviews. I am staying over two weeks in Extended stay just next to it and I tried their food several times in last two weeks. Fabulous food and genuine price, I never felt that the food was old like some other reviews… Mutton Karai and daal is must try. Kababs are also quite good.

These guys are selling us crappy and old food i doubt that they would stay open for another second! The food looked like it was from the middle of of a pie hole if u know what I mean. I do not recommend this place. Make sure to complain if u feel this experience

Great food. We went half afghan and half Indian. Loved the bolanee afghan pizza and watched them make it from scratch.

This is by far my favorite Indian restaurant in Fremont. They have a mix of Afghani and Indian food. I come here at least once a week and always get the same thing of, chicken tikka Masala, mantu, samosa, beef sekh kabob and garlic naan. Our total always comes to $ 30 and have leftovers for the next day. Definitely should try this restaurant

I have never been moved enough to write a review but I simply had to for this absolute gem of a place! Very aptly named… the vegetarian food here is MUCH better than chaat bhavan. I absolutely enjoyed their daal masala, borani badenjan and their afghani bread(top stars for this). My daughter who is a bad eater herself surprised us when she said the bread was yummy!!! Chaat bhavan used to be great before but their food seems to have lost a layer of taste IMHO. This gem is definitely worth the visit.

Very good value for money. The Chicken biryani is mouth watering and the meat is tenderly cooked. Their chai is very tasty.

It’s funny how you end up at places in life. Sandy and I wanted to have lunch at Chaat Bhavan, however, we waited forever(at least 15 minutes) after being seated for someone to come by to take our order. In the end, since no one was assisting us, we decided to walk out. We were short on time because it was during our lunch break — we have to work! Screw Chaat Bhavan for ruining it for us! After the disaster at Chaat, we walked down a couple doors and ended up at Koh-E-Noor(KEN). This place offers Indian, Afghan and Pakistani dishes. ATMOSPHERE: Very mom and pop-ish. There’s nothing impressive about the décor. It’s just a restaurant with tables, a TV and four walls. It’s not dirty but they clearly don’t care about their appearance. SERVICE: Honestly, anything was better than what we experienced at Chaat Bhavan. We could have gone to an angry Chinese place and been fine with it as long as someone didn’t wait forever to take our order. But putting our Chaat experience aside, the staff at KEN was very nice. The girl who took our order was really sweet and on top of everything. CHAPLIKABOB ~ 2 stars ~ $ 10.99: This was just OK. If you’ve ever been to De Afghanan Kabob House in Fremont and devoured their Chapli, you’ll know they set the standard. However, KEN’s version wasn’t that bad. The only reasons I’m giving this 2 stars is because I’m comparing it to De Afghanan’s take on it and DA blows KEN out of the water. If you don’t know what Chapli is, it looks and appears like a flattened burger patty with a lot of green onions but it tastes nothing like, well, a burger. Hints of ginger, coriander and cumin come through. Splash it with some lemon or lime and you get a pretty big flavor burst. It’s served with rice and the portion is pretty big so if you and someone else feel like sharing it with a side of naan bread, go right ahead! CHICKENTIKKAMASALA ~ 4 stars ~ $ 9.99: I was pretty impressed with KEN’s masala — creamy, rich, comforting, great consistency and packed with flavor. The kicker was how well the chicken was cooked. So often in masala, you get big dry chunks of chicken. No no no, not at KEN. Their chicken is moist and tender. Goes perfectly with the curry. This stuff is best enjoyed with naan bread. If you ever dine at KEN, try this dish. GARLICNAAN ~ 4.5 stars ~ $ 1.99: I love naan. I love garlic. I love butter. Enough said. Perfect side dish for what we ordered. If you want good Afghan food, go to De Afghanan Kabob House in Fremont. If you want good Indian food, check out Shalimar located off Walnut. KEN won’t blow you away but they did somehow turn our lunch break into a win. Chaat Bhavan really screwed up and yeah, Sandy and I have every intention of giving it another shot in the future. However, Chaat pushed us to KEN where the food wasn’t that great but it makes for a good(yet frustrating) story.

After a 3 hr night hike of the Mission Peak, a group of 11 people were hungry enough to eat anything that walks /crawls. It was about 11:00PM on a Wednesday and by that time most of the businesses were closed. We were just happy to find this place open as most of us wanted to indulge in some Indian food after the hike. We are ordered a variety of dishes and the ones we liked the most were Bolani(Potato), Mutton Karahi, Paneer Makhani(or something like that!) and the Ice-cream(Ice and Falooda)! The restaurant is Afghani and I think it is not fair on them to deceive people by tagging it under«Indian» category! The mutton was real fresh and very tasty. The Paneer naan sucked big time. It may not be a competitor for Shalimar or Pakwaan but they had their food was not as bad as other Unilocalers claim!

Wow, people be hating on this place hardcore. I was in the area to catch some breakfast but ended up here due to the crazy ass line at the other place. I dont get to eat Afghan all that often so we got some quick dishes. Got the kadu pumpkin and yogurt appetizer and the quawbilli pallaw rice/lamb shank dish. I thought it was decently tasty. The place is small and they’re not the fastest folks ever but they’re nice enough. You can also watch cricket being played and they serve and Indian menu too. But the latter you can get a lot of places so stick with the Afghan! 3.5 stars

Although the slow and not very incompetent service can turn some customers away, this place compensate those weaknesses with great taste and hearty portions. The ingredients seems very fresh and good quality. I recommend trying the plates that you don’t find on a regular indian restaurant menu(mainly the afghan specialities). A hidden gem within the platitude of indian places in Fremont. Also, The place has clean restrooms, at least a the time I wrote this review.

My bf and I eat here pretty often. The food tastes always good, although do expect longer than average waiting time, which I think is because they try to cook from scratch. Indian food is ok, but I like their afghan food more. The staff is nice and accommodating. I love their chopan kabob, it’s the best I ever tried so far in Bay Area. I appreciate the fact that they are open late, and that they serve yummy afghan breakfast with sheer chai! Thank you!

Underappreciated. Afghan-Indian-Pakistan cuisine, in a functional family style café. Butter Chicken is first-rate succulence(try lathering your Nan in that sauce), but I went bonkers for the Ground Beef Kabob which was $ 1.99 a stick. I ordered three of them, I would have ordered four so I could have had more leftovers the next day. Service is fairly OK, except I give them extra points for quirky foreign personalities. If you’re in the area, then adventurous tongues must apply. Solid 3.5 Stars. #sincerity

Amazing place 3-in-1 afghani indian and Pakistani, all have distinct taste. Don’t forget to eat goat karai, garlic naan, kebAbs amazing food and great customer service. I don’t know about other bad reviews about this place but this is my second time here. You can see the chef cooking food. Very polite server afghani girl and very sweet compared to any other indian restaurants. I wish there were more deals for this place. It’s a great place I loved the flavor and aroma of the food. Delivery would have been great !! Way to go!

Was here at noon on Saturday. Only 1 other table was there. We sat, ordered, ate, stuffed ourselves, got dessert, and walked out happy. I liked the lamb spinach thing, and the ice cream /shave ice noodle thing. :-)
