So sad my favorite sushi place is closed. I’m on a look out for a new one and so far haven’t found one that compares to sushi yat. Heard owners have a new location in Oakland called shogun sushi.

We ordered the Sunset Roll, the Eye Candy Roll, and one order of Sake(Salmon) Nigiri. All in all, the quality of the fish was good, and is the main reason for my three star rating. Unfortunately the service was very slow, with one roll and the nigiri arriving way before the last roll, and yet they all managed to take a long time to arrive. Fortunately, the last roll(the Sunset) was good enough to almost make up for the amount of time it took to get there. When eating a piece of the Eye Candy Roll, I found a fish bone in it, something I have never experienced in any sushi I’ve eaten, and I used to live in Japan. I am also disappointed in the happy hour special, which boasts that the order will be «buy one get one free» and yet they hike $ 9 rolls to $ 15, so that we are almost paying the price for two rolls anyways.

I wish there was a no stars option!!! The main bitch that works here saw me and treated me like a piece of shit. Gives me a plastic bag after fifteen minutes of waiting for fifteen minutes & i politely asked this dumb bitch for a plate since I’m chillin here waiting patiently. And this ho hands me a fucking soy sauce container that i had to ask for that was very dirty and off putting and we asked for a plate which we did not receive also she did not offer us drinks or anything and were rushing home from that very dry sushi. I was forced to use my napkin as a plate. As a regular customer it seems your treatment just goes downhill. There was no hello or goodbye, no hows your meal? All I’m asking for is a little bit of respect

This is my go to sushi spot! The rolls are reasonably priced and taste so good. Lion king and dynamite rolls are my favorite. Catch their BOGO during happy hours! The owner is always friendly and recognizes me whenever I’m there :)

This place was my favorite place a few months back. But now, it’s a horrible place due to the chef change. I had diarrhea yesterday after eating their lunch.

Sad. No more HH pricing. That was the appeal of this place. Rolls also got smaller. And $ 16 for a bento. $ 6.50 for a hand roll. Guess times are hard so pricing is going up. I shoulda known something was wrong when I walked in to an empty restaurant during what should be a dinner rush hour. I say skip this spot now. It’s not worthy of a visit anymore. Onto the next!

Great little restaurant! I suggest the binto box for value. Like the ambience and the folks are nice and hardworking…

Was very iffy about this place at first since they didn’t have 2 items that I had ordered but they were very great with the service. Would definitely come in again! Also had given me free ice cream on the house.

The lighting here got better I used to not be able to really read the menu but sad thing is the buy one get one free is no longer in effect which was a blow trying to save money on sushi although staff is verry die fly and serves well

Absolute shite! Worst lunch Ive had in recent memory, and the worst sushi Ive had in my life. I told the kid working that the white tuna in my bento box was foul smelling, crunchy on the inside, and sorta slimy on the outside. He proceeds to add insult to injury by saying«yeah thats how its supposed to be» Kinda looks at me like take it or leave it and walks away. No offer to swap it out or even take a look. Nothin! Ive been eating sushi since the 80’s all over California and throughout the US and this is by far THEWORSTEXPERIENCE ever. A few dollars worth of fish could have possibly made it right, but these people clearly couldnt care less.

My wife and I have been going here for 13 years. I’ve eaten at many sushi spots around the Bay Area, and many being in San Francisco where top chefs and foodies thrive. This is however, the only sushi restaurant iv’e felt compelled to review, based on its consistency of quality food and customer service. It’s time that I share our«awesome whole-in-the-wall spot.» Sushi Yat has by far topped many in sushi quality and the prices are way below comparable quality sushi. In other words, its great tasting, fresh sushi at a decent price. You will not get the variety/rare entrées you might get from bigger Japanese or sushi restaurants but this spot is much smaller, and what the menu does have to offer, especially the true sushi items, are consistently fresh and very delicious. Wendy, the manager, is very sweet and is always working hard to make sure you have a pleasant experience. She has been great to us over the years and is also definitely a part of why we keep coming back. There’s nothing fancy about Sushi Yat, but it’s a true sushi spot gem for the eaters that really know good food.

Food is good and at a great price… when it’s open. This is just a PSA: call ahead before coming down to eat here. Their opening hours are not consistent. I’ve tried to come here three times in the last few months during normal business hours and they were closed two out of those three times. Save yourself the hassle and call to double check they’re open. When they’re open, good food at a great price.

Let me just talk about this place for a minute. This place be bomb, and the sushi always be on point. Buy one get one free, feel me? I’m down for this place. The thing is you probably can’t go as a big group but like I ain’t have more than 5 friends anyway. So Yee, you best be going here Bruh. Good Sushi Bruh, good beer and good service.

Small, Japanese-style restaurant inside a moderate-sized shopping plaza next to a couple other eateries. Their main parking lot is small & busy in the evening, but there are several adjoining parking lots you can use. We came here for dinner on Valentine’s Day because 1) we didn’t make reservations anywhere else and 2) they looked vacant. The fact that they were vacant on Valentine’s should’ve been a big flag but we decided to give it a go. Anyways, we step inside and take our seats in a booth. The restaurant had NO music playing, our table was sticky(our menu actually STUCK to the table!), and they have NO drink menu(the waitress said that water/soft drinks are available). They also had piles upon piles of to-go boxes stacked on top of their vacant tables. It was an extremely uninviting atmosphere! Once we sat down and witnessed the inside of this restaurant, my husband & I looked at each other and made a run out the door. We were very disappointed.

Just ok for me. the co-workers love this place for some reason but I think the food is just ok. The teriyaki chicken is very good. but the rolls here seem to have far too much rice and imitation crab. No matter what item we order. I do like their nigiri. It tasted fine, not old.

***RAWCHICKENTERRIYAKI*** Called and ordered for pick up. Ordered their lunch special chicken terriyaki with California rolls for $ 8.99(use to be 7.99) Coworker pick up our lunch and she gave me $ 9.65 back. Called Sushi Yat and asked why I was charged over $ 10 since $ 8.99 + 9% tax equals $ 9.80! Manager said«oh we charge 50 cents for the box! WTF!!! Ya’ll charge for the box!!! That info should have been disclosed along with the price of the lunch. Also, the chicken barely had any terriyaki sauce on it AND some were not even cooked completely! The chicken had a weird after taste too… NEVERCOMINGBACK.

Yay for fresh sushi! First time here and I’m impressed. The place is so small and cozy, I love it. Not many tables but that’s okay. Quality over quantity. I walked in around 2 and was waiting on 2 more people, they came around 2:30 and I didn’t know they closed at 2:30(it doesn’t say on Unilocal that they’re closed 2:30 — 5:30). But the lady welcomed us and still decided to serve us, so sweet! Regardless, I was greeted right away and I asked for tea. Immediately got roasted rice tea(my fave!) and waited. They have a pretty wide variety of rolls. And to be honest, I couldn’t pick which ones to get. But I ended up settling for super spider roll and the gold dragon roll for my buy one get one free… Gee what a deal, I can’t get over it! Super spider: soft shell crab, unagi, cucumber, and lettuce with unagi sauce. AMAZING! Their soft shell crab is bomb. My favorite from now on. Gold dragon: shrimp tempura and cucumber topped with fresh salmon, unagi sauce and sesame seeds. Also reallllly delish — salmon was absolutely fresh. My cousin had the lion king and it was yummy too! Just the right amount of sauce, her boyfriend had the chicken katsu and chicken teriyaki bento box, which was good but heads up for the meat it’s dark meat, not white meat. So it’s probably on the less lean side of chicken. But I’ll definitely be back, a hidden gem forsure! Try this place out, it’s great! Just minus 1 star bc it’s so tiny and I’m sure it could be cleaner. But it’s ok!

My sister suggested this place to my husband and I as we were walking out the door for our sushi date. She says she comes here all the time with her friends, so we decided to give it a try since we’ve been getting tired of just going to Satomi’s. This place is a bit hard to find in the plaza, but we found it just fine. It’s a bit of a hole in the wall, but that’s what I love about it. It’s small, yet a great setting for an intimate date. They have this buy one roll, get the 2nd one free(equal or lesser value, of course)! I forgot what my husband ordered, but I ordered the Sunset roll to start myself off. ITWASDELICIOUS! Perfect amount of spicy tuna to fit my standards. And it actually was spicy enough for me. I ended up being hungry still, so I ordered the Philadelphia roll, which is usually my go-to roll because I love cream cheese so much ahaha. It definitely satisfied my taste buds! Overall, paid $ 33 bucks for the whole dinner, which my husband also had a large Sapporo beer and I just had a Coke. Pretty good deal for the way the sushi tasted. We would definitely come back here again for sushi :)

Short Story: A slightly below average sushi restaurant in terms of quality. Long Story: I came here on a Tuesday night in search of sushi and this was one of the few sushi places I had not tried in Fremont. The place was not crowded and I was promptly seated. The restaurant seems to operate on deals such as buy one get one or buy one get the second half off. So, in terms of quantity the place is pretty darn good. However, the quality just is not there. And for sushi, you want quality, not quantity. I ordered the white tuna which was one of their higher end rolls. It tasted bland and a bit old. My second roll was the salmon and that tasted alright. The service is pretty good and the décor and ambiance is average. Verdict: I probably will not be back.

BUYONEGETONEFREE? Those words drew me into here faster than you can say«sushi». When I walked in on a Monday night around 7:30PM, there was only one table occupied. Well that was strange, but the traditional décor won me over; it’s nice and intimate, intimate enough to eavesdrop on both the conversation going on in the booth next to you AND across from you. It also helps how quiet it is in there so you can hear it loud and clear. Score! Ok, seriously, all kidding aside, this place is great. We ordered the Lion Princess and the Snow White(both $ 17 each) and both were quite yummy. Their baked rolls are very delicious; their creamy sauce is not too overpowering but yet very flavorful. Their fish seemed pretty fresh and soft(especially the scallops and salmon). BUT…(there’s always a but) this place would have more potential if they didn’t jack up their prices as if we were entering the next Great Great Depression. I understand it’s buy one get one free but honestly would you pay $ 18 for a meager 6 pieces of sushi? That enough shows some desperation in their part, which is pretty unappealable to me, and if I can say so, deceiving to customers when all it is is still regular prices. Their appetizers are also 50% off so now it’s 6 – 7 dollars for edamame(wtf?) and 9 dollars for some vegetable tempura. That’s just wack. The two rolls we had, the Lion Princess and the Snow White, came with 6 pieces and 8 pieces respectively. They’re lucky I have a small appetite so I was decently satisfied. Additional gripes: — the service was alright, but it just annoyed me how our waitress lingered at our table 10 more seconds than what was necessary to just stare at our food, menu, and at us. Way to make us feel hella uncomfortable. I was in this intense convo with my friend, and I stopped halfway when the waitress was STILL there, and it only took her 5 more seconds to slowly move away. I don’t know if she was doing that on purpose to make us feel bad for ordering two rolls, or if she found something wrong with our dish and was contemplating to take it back(I’m hoping its the latter.) But as a waitress myself, that’s pretty unprofessional of them and it’s very off putting to the customers. — they apparently charge for tea? But that’s not a problem really, I just wish they told us. The tea tastes pretty good, but it comes in this really cool looking cast iron teapot. But when you try lifting it up to pour some tea out, that’s when the struggle begins. It’s a lotttt heavier than it seems, and its long thin handle makes it pretty hard to pour it unless you have godly oblique strength. Basically to sum it up: Taste– 4 Prices– 1 Atmosphere– 2.5
