I love this place! I had the pleasure of meeting Maceo and trying his potatoe salad fresh off of the stove! The spices are all amazing, made in house and way lower sodium and extra stuff than what you buy in stores!

Stopped there on a whim today for lunch. I wish I would’ve stopped here when I was actually living on the island! Incredible food and a really nice atmosphere. It’s very much of a hole in the wall but the employees are so kind and genuinely care about your experience. They have a very unique selection of spices that I can’t wait to try! Do yourself a favor and get the Katbird, it’ll change your life!

I was told that I had to try the gumbo at Maceo’s. I was a little disappointed to find out that they do not serve gumbo. However I had the crawfish étouffée and it was well worth the trip. This is the second time that I have been here and I have enjoyed the service, food, and atmosphere both times.

Cold local craft beer and a world-class muffaletta. Always worth the drive! Was there on a Thursday and lots of folks were raving about the Spaghetti and Meatballs. Recommended!

Have worked on the island for many years and have been missing out on this hidden gem. Went in today with my hubby after a day on The Strand and was greeted by the super nice, very hospitable Mr. Maceo up himself. We ordered a muffuletta and he told us how his uncle worked for the Central Grocery in New Orleans and he have him the recipe for the muffuletta. It was delicious and my native born New Orleans husband approved. Will definitely be back on Sunday when they start making beignets!

This little spice shop was wonderful. I love the shirt of he who controls the spice controls the universe. The meatball sub was delicious and my husband’s muffuletta was quite yummy as well. They had lost our order but didn’t bother us because we were to busy chatting and looking around to notice. The owners came out with a cannoli for each of us. That was very kind of them and it was very tasty too. It is off the beaten path but it is so very worth it.

I am delayed on writing this review. My apologies. I stopped in one day trying to throw something together for a romantic gesture for my significant other. While, I looked totally confused the girls at the counter were very patient. Then outcomes Mr. Maceo himself. I got nervous, no different than seeing a celebrity! What a gem! He hand picked all my meats and cheeses that were without a doubt outstanding. I, of course enjoyed a beer while he was preparing my items. I enjoy watching a person so passionate about what they love. Daily specials and impessive brunch from what I have heard. And an outstanding spice store.

Ok… we couldn’t decide which sandwich shop we wanted to go to. We picked this place first and got the New Orlean’s classic. We got it warm and it was really tasty. I’m happy that we decided to check it out. It’s a spice shop and oh yeah… they have a bad a$$ sandwich too!

The beignets, the main reason I came, were fantastic. I would rate them as good, if not better, than New Orlean’s finest. Hot, traditional, and delicious. An order of 3 is perfect for 1 hungry person or 2 on a date. The coffee, served with a portion of cream, was great as well. Would highly recommend this as a non-tourist trap stop in Galveston. Don’t be surprised if the line is out the door.

A wonderful place for lunch. Also great for stocking up on spices and various international ingredients(they carry Asian sauces, tahini, red pepper paste, and other useful stuff). The BOI sandwich is my favorite.

This place never disappoints! You walk in and it smells amazing. The food tastes and good as it smells. Try their signature muffaletta first but you’ll have to come back and try everything!

I work in Galveston, so I love to find great places to eat for lunch! I highly recommend the Muffaletta… it is the best I’ve ever had! The smell of the spices from the store, the friendly wait staff, and the perfect sandwich being served made for a memorable lunch indeed!!! This one goes on my good list for sure!

Love the breadcrumbs which are deliciouso especially when cooked with Brussels sprouts in the oven. Yum! We got a muffalata to go… Hoping it would be as good in the oven as my mom made it sound… And OMG! Their only competition are two places in NOLA, one of which is the French quarter. If you like muffalatas do not pass this place up! (Food is served hot only during lunch.) Their spaghetti sauce is our favorite! I always get a ton of compliments from friends and family so we pick more up every time we are in the area. Per my mom, this store originated in NOLA and then moved to Galveston.

I have heard great things about Maceo’s and decided to stop in today. I was warmly greeted by the staff, Joshua took my order and was great at suggesting items and Kelly took my payment and made a fantastic mimosa! Overall wonderful experience and food was equally amazing– especially the beignets!(Thanks Josh!)

gratzie! gratzie! gratzie, mr maceo jr… youve done a great job with your family buisness today was my first time to visit… and NOW i know WHERE to come for spices, teas, deli meats, cheeses, oilive oils… etc…but, mostly for the muffalatta, cannoli and potato salad i had today — ALL homemade! the muff was smaller than ive had in the past… but, ya know what they say. great things come in small packages~~it was soo good. i got mine toasted [served cold as well] i loved it the olive salad [spread] was fantastic — [they sell it by the jar] great taste with no saltiness the potato salad — oooh my — there’s bacon pieces in it – whats not to like, eh?!! the cannoli – my first time having one — and lets just say — it wont be my last. the italian crème they use is light and very flavorful $ 14.50 meal… i SHALL be back!
