Nice Safeway store with all the basics. 5 stars for clean and convenient. Not a lot of overcrowding here and the staff has been very accommodating.

Clean bright environment. Friendly helpful staff. Love the bakery.

I have noticed in recent months that the Just-​For-​You prices are increasing; sometimes, those prices are higher than the regular prices at Wegmans and Giant. I guess that now that customers are used to getting good Just-​For-​You prices, Safeway is now thinking we will believe that ALL J-​F-​Y prices are good prices. I’m not shopping at Safeway as often because of these prices. My current general rating for Safeway stores is 3 stars because I don’t like the «psychological» game playing with the Just-​For-​You pricing.
If you’re into playing Monopoly, count your tickets before leaving the cashier. I just started collecting tickets. On 4÷8÷2016, I was supposed to get 19 (12 & 7); cashier gave me 12. When I told her, she asked me to give her the 12, and she recounted. She then gave me 12, and then gave me 5 more. I finally got the 12 & 7 I was supposed to get. I give this employee 5 stars for ADMITTING her mistake and correcting it; I don’t hold any negative feelings against someone when they take responsibility for their mistakes – it’s that simple.

I have shopped at the Safeway since I moved to Germantown 7 years ago. The management and shopping experienced has changed so much there. The manger does nothing for there customers, I have complained about the nursery water for almost a year and nothing has been done to move it closer to arms reached. Some of he workers have no clue why they are at work and have no clue about the store. The other front end supervisors are nasty and rude. Every time you ask for grocery help you wait at least 10 minutes for someone to help you. The other day I bought chicken and opened it up and it had already gone bad. They are really starting to go down hill fast and every since Wegman came to the city they have gotten worst. The custom service is the worst. I think I’m going to have to take my shopping somewhere else. I LOVED this Safeway but I can’t do business in this store anymore. I went because I loved the pharmacy but it’s not worth the BS anymore with management. Also, the deli is slow and you stand and wait for every the hot foods/​Chinese food is always hard and the workers never want to hep u. I work hard for my money and groceries are not cheap I can not give my money to a store ran like this.

There are some good places to eat, bank and do other activities all around this Safeway. Good place to shop, walk or sit and have coffee at the adjoining Starbucks.

As with almost every grocery chain, there are certain things that I can only get at Safeway. One of them is the turkey pot roast, bone in. Because they don’t always have it, I often call ahead to ensure that they have it. If they do, I tell them what time I would like to pick them up (I generally order 2 or 3), and the number of them that I want. Generally, it works well.
I have not found staff to be sulky or rude. Not to be Pollyanna, but if you are rude, that is likely to be the response that you will get anywhere you go. Treat people like they are human beings, and they will most likely reciprocate! Like food counter staff at many places, they do much more than what we see out front, especially if there is a full kitchen in the back (lots of cooking AND CLEANING).
I have not seen rotting produce (if you do, take it to Customer Service, if it is open). My main issue is that there is almost never anyone at Customer Service, and when there is, they should have at least 2 people staffing it.

My least favorite grocery store in Germantown.
The selection here meets the minimum and the produce is below minimum. I HATE the produce, everything is spoiling or on the verge of turning another color. Even on the day their sales begin, you can tell the produce dept was not invited to the party. I used to stop in for quick picks but soon learned that this is not the store for me. I now come here for salsa ONLY but I found a new line at Weggies that is an awesome substitute.
The meat department is dark, dingy and uninviting and so is the rest of the store. And by the rest of the store, I do mean the staff. Now you can get service but dont expect a smile. The lines are always long and the cashiers only mumble the required three lines to you.
I would not recommend this location to anyone.

The only reason they got one star from me is because Im forced to by this site. The worst customer service in all of Germantown. from the manager name Mike to the very rude cashier Tammy. I would never spend another dollar at any safeway because of these two. I was told by Tammy that she couldn’t check me out because she only had 2mins left before her shift was over and I had to much stuff. huh they must have for got to tell her that her shift is not over until you have a relief and you should never turn a customer away. the manager well just let me say this… SAD…

Always long lines. Store coupon items often aren’t in stock. I never have any problems with coupons though

The lines here are aways long when I need to go here around lunch time. Unless you have a lot of time to kill, avoid it during the rush. It never seems to be «all hands on deck». Maybe the mangers and other non-​checkers need to work the lines during the crunch time.

This place is depressingly overpriced. The store is neat, clean, well organized and everything looks pretty. It has an overpriced salad bar, olive bar. It has a Chinese Express bar. A very appetizing dessert bar
*** After 8pm on the weekdays the Chinese Food is marked down to $ 3. You can rack up on cheap Chinese Food without breaking bank.
The lines are long! Avoid using the selfcheck out IF your are using coupons because the coupon police comes out with her badge and baton to make you feel like a cheapstake.
They have Starbucks … but they take forever and half the time they are not in the coffee station.
But avoid coming here the last hour b4 the close because they have one cashier open!!! Avoid it like its the plague!!!

If you are rich or you dont care about prices Safeway is the place. But you can do better at Aldis or Giant.

My job is next door to this place so it is the fastest way for me to get groceries. I usually go to the grocery store in the evenings. I never had an argument but I have to say the Giant across the street is better.

— Get more cashiers. The giant across the street has 20 cashiers on weekday evenings! This place has 4 on weekday evenings, there busiest time.

— Most of their employee’s english is poor. I’m not discriminating but it would be nice not to repeat myself multiple times.

The rudest cashiers I have ever met work here, I call them gremlins. So, i just moved here from Illinois to go to grad school in the DC area. Someone stole my debit card from home and so I was relegated to writing checks like in the ‘70s while a replacement was being sent. Giant takes my checks no problem but lo and behold, Safeway cashier Marco looked at me like I’m an alien. He ran the check and then demanded «I need ID.» i was half tempted to tell him I couldn’t help him obtain ID, but I presented my IL license to him and his eyes exploded out like I was from Iran trying to purchase yellow cake!
After hurriedly summoning the manager (who looked just as dumbfounded) and she gave her approval, he had to repeatedly ask coworkers on how to enter in an IL ID. He started putting random pieces of paper in the check franker and finally flat out told me «It ain’t workin.» I lost my temper and ripped my check from his hand and informed him I’d be going to Giant where they have great customer service.
This was the last straw. I didn’t appreciate being marginalized simply because I’m fron another state. Checks are processed electronically anyway so my money is just as good as someone else’s! Never going back to Safeway after that ordeal and corporate will be hearing from me!
Btw, don’t even get me started on how overpriced they are!!! And the fact that they are unionized obviously doesn’t make them happy campers.

It’s our local neighborhood Safeway and it’s a lot nicer than the Giant down the street. Good prices, clean, no issues with the produce or anything else, and the guy at the seafood is always helpful. We also like getting the rotisserie chicken there.
My big complaint about the place is that they never have enough checkers weekday evenings (basically, when everyone is coming by to get shopping done after work), which results in a lot of long lines and waiting. The self checkouts help alleviate the problem somewhat, but you still have a lot of people who haven’t really grasped how best to use the self checkout (if you know what I mean). So things get slow. Not an easy place to get in and out of.

Growing up in the western region of the U.S., I was thrilled to find a neighborhood Safeway when I moved here. Like any supermarket, it can get crowded on the weekends, but parking is ample and stalls are wide. The staff is generally friendly and attentive, although, like anyplace, you’ll encounter the occasional sourpuss. The meat department is good-​sized, and noticeably cleaner than the ones at nearby Giant stores. If you plan on being a frequent shopper here, do sign up for the Safeway Club card – a sure way to slash your grocery bill and snag the best deals on everyday items like paper towels, milk, and eggs.
My only beef with this store is that its aisles – particularly in the bakery, deli, and produce departments – can be very difficult to navigate with a regular-​sized shopping cart. With its multiple display tables scattered about in tight, maze-​like patterns, getting around this store in even a light crowd might prove more difficult than beating Ninja Gaiden for the NES. Well, maybe not that difficult. But you get the picture.

My complaint is that, at 10 PM on a weeknight, only one register is open. This might be understandable once, but it has happened a few times.
If you are a business and you are open at a specific time, you should be ready to DO business at that time. with more than a dozen customers all in one checkout lane, your business is telling customers that they don’t matter.
A waste of time and energy is not what I am looking for at the end of a long day. Staff your store, Safeway. It’s the least you can do and we expect more.

next to the chevy chase bank (not named after the actor) is a lil market called safeway. now you want frustration? come here to the deli. they got an ala carte chinese food thing. either someone who speaks no english will help you and everytime you try to say something, she answers back with
«no problem»
but there is a problem. you are charging me for 2 items when all i asked for is one item and half and half chowmein and rice.

ah crap. then the other lady looks like she hates life and i ask if i can get some water and she tells me
«do what you want»
she may have slit her wrist after that.
as i listen to 2 ladies talking about this baby’s mama, and her daddy being a dirtbag, and he owe money to mama and bla bla bla he gonna get soul slapped by god. whatever that means.
what a day! everything is getting to me and i am having a bad hair day! serenity now!
