I got the beef cheesesteak, my husband got the hamburger and we shared a basket of fries. It was all delicious. The nicest people work there, we got a very interesting history lesson which I could have sat and listened to for hours. We will definitely be back!

Best cheesesteak and fries ever. Get the cheesesteak with provolone cheese. Two people can easily share a small fry. Great deal. Don’t let the look of the place scare you.

Stopped for lunch and was able to sit at table outside. Our sandwiches and fries were very good. The waitress was very friendly and cleared our empty plates as soon as we were finished with them. The weather was beautiful, the service and food were great so needless to say, had a very enjoyable lunch!

Large fries gets you a popcorn bucket sized mound of delicious fresh cut and fried potatoes. Be sure you are up for the challenge before pulling the trigger on your order.

Really tiny place and super cute! Had a cheesesteak and lemonade and it was so so good!!! The fries could have been cooked more but that would my only complaint. It was fun looking around at all the stuff on the walls. Very happy with our experience!

You have to be okay with«kitsch» to enjoy this place. Lots of random military ball caps and made-in-China fake tin signs with funny sayings all over. Fries — twice fried and perfect. Cheesesteak — had the beef with provolone and right down to the type of roll it was served on — nailed it. My daughter had the grilled cheese on pretzel bread and said she could eat it every day for the rest of her life. Superbly executed, comforting tavern food. Exactly as advertised and did not disappoint. Service was fast and friendly.

Stopped in for lunch. We had a big crowd, 16 people, and were very accommodating. Had a little wait because they were busy but the food was worth it. Everyone enjoyed the food.

Visited this place on a Thursday for a later lunch after touring Gettysburg. Decided to try it based on good Unilocal reviews. It was definitely what my husband calls a «local flair» business. Lots of armed forces hats and other unique type merchandise inside. So we ordered the cheese-steak sandwich, grilled cheese, and burger. Yes, we also ordered the huge«bucket-o-fries.»(Our teenage son was with us, so don’t judge us too much). I really liked the cheese-steak, and the other sandwiches were good as well. Fries were fresh cut and tasty. I maybe would normally give the food here 4 stars, but I am adding an extra star for local uniqueness.

This is a great place for a quick lunch. Nothing fancy but it’s hearty. The large fries are served in a bucket that looks like it should be used for movie popcorn! The burgers and chopped beef sandwiches were flavorful and it was a nice stop. The décor was eclectic but nothing particularly historic or interesting.

So far so good… ambience is perfect… atmosphere is perfect and very casual… only about 6 tables but looking forward to eating. Okay just finished eating and it was awesome. My son said his hot wings were great and my cheesesteak was just perfect. They serve the fries as an extra but a small plate of them covered in cheese is worth it. I will be back if I’m ever in town again.

One of the coolest places to grab lunch when visiting Gettysburg is at Hunt’s Battlefield Fries & Café. This is a spot where you can eat with locals as well as tourists. It’s hard to describe the inside, you just have to see it once for yourself. Def no one will ever be at a loss for things to look at inside the café. Now all this wouldn’t be worth telling about if the food wasn’t as good as the atmosphere here. They are justly famous for their homemade french fries. I especially like adding malt vinegar to these fries. And they have fresh baked pretzel rolls at Hunt’s. This is a delicious roll — especially with a grilled hot dog in it! Service at Hunt’s Battlefield Fries & Café is small-town friendly. Tips — In warmer weather there are tables out front. The large Inside tables can be shared to help accommodate all the people who want to eat here. There’s no liquor license but if you’re with a group you can get a six-pack of beer across the street and bring it in.

Very small place but the food was good. We ordered a chili cheese hot dog and a sauerkraut dog on a pretzel bun. No gimmicks just a good regular sized hotdog. The turkey and cheese on white was just as if I made it myself and the onion rings were crispy and plenty to share for the three of us. They have a large selection of bottled sodas and you have to purchase water.

Cheesesteaks are absolutely incredible. I’ll make the 4hr trip back to Gettysburg just to experience the friendly waitstaff and eat more cheesesteaks! The inside is cool too, filled with a bunch of autographed pictures of good ol’ country singers!

Great little sandwich shop! Staff was very warm and friendly. I placed a to-go order and my husband and I were able to sit out front with our large dog and eat a great lunch! We got a cheesesteak, pretzel grilled cheese with bacon and fresh cut French fries with 2 bottled local sodas. Everything was great and made to order! One of the best cheesesteaks we both have ever had and we done all the Philly stops! Cheese was melted all throughout! Yum! Best part– with tip everything only cost $ 25! Gladly be back on our next visit to Gettysburg!

I love these little mom & pop places where the food is out of this world! Their cheese fries ate just amazing. As for their cheesesteaks… well they get their beef from their local butcher and my oh my you can taste the difference. I’m from NY and I was always going to PA so I can say I know cheesesteaks and their cheesesteaks are awesome. Now that I live in Virginia I can’t say there is anyplace that can make cheesesteaks like PA can and Hunt’s is one of these places!!!

If you want a good home cook meal then this is it. At first when we walked in we were apprehensive about it. It’s not the cleanest place but the food was wonderful. We ate there for a traditional breakfast. I definitely want to go back and try there dinner.

I moved to AZ from NJ8 years ago and am forever on the hunt for a real cheesesteak. Back on the east coast that is usually easy to find. The cheesesteaks were amazing and the staff super friendly and attentive. Highly recommended.

Just one advice, show up early!!! This place is so quaint and on the way into«downtown» Gettysburg so you can’t miss it. Showing up early means you don’t have to fight the crowd for seating or parking! Remember to bring quarters b/c there are lots of meters in gettysburg, and they only take coins. We arrived around 10:30. Although there was a couple enjoying some delicious breakfast, we knew we were only suppose to get one thing here, cheesesteaks!!! They were amazing, filled with REAL meat. a perfect amount of cheese. The initial bite was as delicious as the final bite! The husband and I also got a small side of chili cheese fries. The chilli was how i like it, no beans and chunks of real meat, that you can see! Not that pulverize meat-like products you normally see. It was brimming with meat. We topped off our early lunch with two freshly squeezed lemonade. Everything was about $ 25, dirt cheap and oh so delicious. I really recommend this place if you’re in Gettysburg.

Only went here once. Got some amazing ice cream but nothing else. Unilocalers are saying that the cheesesteaks are amazing. Really close to the Gettysburg main drag.

If you’re looking for white linen table service and fine dining then you better turn around and walk away now. But, if you’re looking for a hole-in-the-wall place that has decent food, this is the place for you! Yes it’s dark and claustrophobic and is decorated in its own unique way, but that sets it apart from every other place in town. We usually go there for a cheesesteak and french fries. You won’t find any better in town. As a joke, we decided to try it for breakfast one morning. What a pleasant surprise! Our breakfast was served by the owner who chitchatted with us and incoming customers while we ate. If there was anything negative I could say I t was that our breakfast was served on styrafoam plates with plastic utensils. I didn’t care for that but it didn’t make the food taste any less delicious. I don’t mind that the cheesesteak and french fries are served on styrofoam or paper plates but somehow breakfast should be served on a real plate. Other than this one minor little thing. I would recommend this place to anyone. The cheesesteak is so good that I don’t want to try anything else on the menu!

On a road trip and Unilocal guided me to this place. When you walk in you’re not sure if you walked into a store or restaurant but apparently it’s both. The service is super friendly, the place is clean and the food is delicious. I ordered the beef cheese steak and it’s one of the best ones I’ve had. The 6 inch sub is just enough, if it was 8 or even 12 inches it would be too much. The merchandise all around are various kinds of metal signs from classic, to funny, to classic comic book covers. There are also hats from all different kinds of military service. But I would come back for the delicious food. Side note, the fries are separate from the sub and the portions are huge. I ordered small and it fed 2 people.

This is a small sandwich shop with maybe 5 tables inside and two outside. The décor is mostly baseball hats commemorating US Naval Ships, old time Americana posters and autographs of the rich and famous. I didn’t get the idea they were pushing this merchandise for sale rather it was just part of the atmosphere. Prices were very reasonable and I was very pleasantly surprised at how well the service handled our large group of 8! Fries were excellent and there was a large selection of condiments to compliment them. Cheese steak was excellent and came on a fresh slightly toasted roll which knocked it out of the park for me. Equally as good was the grilled cheese with bacon on a pretzel roll. If you are looking to sit and have a relaxing meal, this is not your place, however if you are looking to have a quick lunch with good service and excellent quality, this is your place!

As we passed through Gettysburg around lunch time, we reviewed the«hot spots» on Unilocal. We are always looking for a good«hole in the wall», and this one seemed to fit the description. We were a little apprehensive upon entering, but after the great service we received and sinking our teeth into an amazing cheesesteak and chili cheese fries, the odd collection of military caps and random clutter didn’t bother us at all… in fact it added to the overall experience in this charming little town.

I had the beef cheesesteak and fries for lunch today. They were both very good. The sandwich had plenty of cheese and the beef and bun and grilled onions and lettuce and tomato and mayo made me very happy. Their fries are homemade and taste like it. If you like these two items you will like eating here. This is a small restaurant inside and has a few tables outside for dining. Closed on Wednesdays. I recommend!

This is the best food in town, every thing was so good. The service was wonderful the whole entire place was just amazing. I totally recommend this to anyone that comes to Gettysburg. My husband considers himself somewhat of a cheesesteak expert, he said this one was tops, and I agree with other reviews as well. The French fries are to die for. My hamburger was perfect and expertly seasoned. You can tell it’s a family business and it’s a good one. Two thumbs way up!

This is a tiny hole-in-the wall café with its own casual-gawdy charm. Good was fairly reasonably priced, We wanted quick & casual & we got it. I had the cheesesteak salad: iceberg lettuce, hubby had a traditional cheesesteak. When in Phili, right? If you’re in Gettysburg and are hankering for cheesesteak, this is your place, especially if you don’t mind a greesy-spoon diner.

This place is a mishmash of retail store and restaurant, and excels at neither. My wife and I stopped in one early morning, hungry and desperate for food. We left with unappealing food that we threw out, and then we ended up eating elsewhere. The positives: There are a wide variety of low cost trinkets available throughout the store, although they seem to lack any central theme or strong relation to the Battle of Gettysburg, or the town itself. The staff seemed polite. There is breakfast available here when other options nearby are closed. The negatives: Few things for sale in the retail section are related to the Gettysburg or the associated battle in any strong way. Many of the items could be purchased at major retail outlet or online, with little value to them being showcased in the building. The store has a dark, claustrophobic feel, and food tables are placed in the middle of the store, which almost seems like a fire hazard. There is carpet throughout, and it gave me a damp, unclean feeling, as I kept wondering how they cleaned the floor with so much greasy food inevitably falling on it. The food preparation area did not appeal to me. My wife and I returned to our car and opened our food, and the smell and consistency of our breakfast sandwiches was so far from what we expected that we ended up throwing the food out. Conclusion: This place sells a variety of things, few of which go together. Sometimes a retail genius can pull this off. In this case, it is poorly executed. My suggestions for the owners: a) decide on whether to sell food or goods, and focus on unique, quality products; b) transform the interior so that customers leave with a memory of someplace warm and unique, rather than dank and dark.

Just as advertised on Unilocal… YUUUM!!! This was the BEST philly cheese I’ve ever eaten. Traveling for work has its good and bad, having restaurants like Hunt’s Café makes it a little better. The Hunt’s Café is a small restaurant that packs a punch. Two thumbs up!!!
