I have eaten here in the past and the food was okay but tourist priced. Today the service was rude when we tried to check in for a table. She acted like she didn’t have time to deal with us and wasn’t interested in serving us as well as the other hostess. We decided to leave rather than deal with the attitude of the staff there.

The food was amazing our waitress was very rude. There was a group of us and instead of coming over and asking if we wanted dessert she gave us the bill. When I asked if it was easier for her to split the checks or us to write our credit card number and the amount on the card she got completely rude. I would highly recommend there food but the service was really disappointing even with them being in costumes.

I go to Sweeney’s Tavern every time I go to Gettysburg which is like 3 – 4 times a year. — I love the atmosphere. Feels old & rustic with the bar and setting. — They play the movie — Gettysburg — all the time and it only makes the experience better. I always watch it even though I’ve seen the movie hundreds of times lol. — They have tons of memorabilia from The movie ‘Gettysburg’ — I just discovered their AMAZING Buffalo Wings. I was worried they’d be boney and a small appetizer. NOTATALL. Their full of meat and the sauce is great. I will be ordering it next time for sure — The waitresses dress in 19th century attire. STRONGELY recommend a visit

TOURISTTRAP! GOAWAYGOAWAY!!! Despite the décor, weak drinks, incredibly small portions of substandard mediocre food. Cheeseburger is what you would expect at a middle school cafeteria. Flatbread dough was flavorless. Fish and chips were soggy fries and 4 minuscule fish soggy fishsticks that even the Gorton’s fisherman would be ashamed of.

Despite only 3 stars we decided to eat here. What a surprise. The Décor fit the era and it was clean. No dust & no cobwebs. The people were super friendly and very helpful explaining the menu. I like fresh made pot pies. I saw a pic of their game pie & asked about it. It’s similar to pot pies but no veggies. It did have mushrooms and very tender beef. I actually didn’t see it on the menu and the waitress explained that they only serve it in the beer garden and in the restaurant. She said she would check with the chef. She came back with a smile. All 4 of us ordered it. It was fantastic. With it came spoon bread. White cracked corn meal with egg and butter. It was so good. Sweet potato with some type of brown syrup. It was yummy. Not to sweet. This was a great dinning experience. We will return.

Very cute place, perfect if you want to sit outside in the shade on a hot day after sightseeing. Inside the tavern it definitely has the old-time feel, a little dark and cramped. Very friendly staff, helpful and willing to ask the kitchen a question for me. I ordered the ½ soup and ½ sandwich with the soup of the day and tuna salad sandwich. The soup was potato, bacon and cheddar — delicious! And the tuna salad was terrific. No celery or relish which I LOVE — just fresh tuna, dressing, and chopped cucumber … so so good. I could have eating a whole sandwich for sure.

On a random outing to Gettysburg I came across Sweney’s Tavern. The place is very small and cute to say the least. From the outside you walk across and outside berr garden. Once inside the place felt like you stepped into the civil war era. The walls are lines with memorbila from the time and the place really seems to tell a history. The building is a resturant now, but was used during the was for different reasons. Your placemat tells the whole story while waiting on your food. The atmosphere was very pleasant. Even though the resturant is in a very tourist driven location a lot of locals patroned the place. I think it’s always a good sign if locals keep coming back. The wait staff was very pleasant and quick to get anything we needed. The food was great. I defintely recommend the sweet bread and homemade apple butter appeitizer. The homemade potatoe and bacon soup is also amazing. The tavern door is kind of hard to find and not very well marked, but the search is worth it. Just cross through the beer garden and over the red bridge, which leads you right to the door. Defintely worth the stop when in Gettysburg.

Other then our waiter Jordan, who I felt sorry for be cause he was the only one working the tavern including the bar while I was there, the experience was blah. I ordered the roast turkey sandwich the menu read fresh cut turkey and if it was fresh cut turkey it came from the lunch meat counter at the local store. My girlfriend tries to order a Rachel but they were out of the rolls for it, so then she tried to order the pulled pork and they were out of that also. She was finally able to get a Ruben and she thought it was ok. This place is nothing more then a tourist trap. I just wish I had taken pictures of my sandwich to show that it was lunch meat and not fresh roasted turkey. On last thing when ordering a sandwich make sure to tell them you want some type of condiment on it or you will get it on a dry roll.

Went on a Saturday night in April. Tavern was not near to being full. Service was OK, but it took 50 minutes to get our food. We were told it took 25 minutes to make the game pie, which maybe could have been communicated to us before we ordered them, but I’m not sure what they did for the other 25 minutes! Rolls were chewie and not the Jennie Wade bread promised on the menu. Nice atmosphere, but won’t be back.

Private party. Awesome warm and comfortable atmosphere with terrific wait staff. The steak and chicken dinners were nicely prepared and delicious — good job to the kitchen tonight. We would gladly recommend it and return.

Zero stars… we tried to eat here because it has an adorable patio on Baltimore Street. When we walked into the building, one of the servers was yelling at another in the middle of the dining room. When we asked the bartender if we could look at a menu, she rolled her eyes at us and threw it down on the bar and walked away… and so did we.

Poorly managed establishment. They were completely understaffed and the manager was extremely lost in dealing with customers. My girlfriend and I ordered soup of the day(potato, bacon, and cheddar), a salad, and burger since we only had one hour to eat. The soup came out after a half hour and was lukewarm-cold. At the 45 minute mark, I asked about the burger and salad. Neither had been started. We paid for the soup and left hungry. Maybe this was an isolated experience, but judging by the similar experiences of patrons around us, this seemed to be the norm.

I was quite disappointed. The atmosphere is adorable, but coming on an empty Sunday in the early afternoon, the service was awful and we waited 15 minutes to et our check before we asked someone to get our waitress. The food is nothing spectacular. We ordered a cheese plate, which is literally just a small cup of cold pack cheddar(think Wis Pride or Woody’s — the stuff in the grocery store) and some fruits — actually, MOLDY fruits. I started eating some grapes and picked it up to put on my plate, and voila. Mold galore. Ugh. That’s pretty bad. The french onion soup we both got was just meh. It wasn’t awful — but it was tasteless and just plain. The fries I got on the side were equivalent to frozen ones from the grocery store. Kind of seems like a tourist trap?

We got into town around 5:30pm on Oct.19, 2012. by the time we checked into the hotel and made our way into town to try to find some place to have dinner the restaurants were all full with ample waiting time. we had booked a show in the Farnsworth House Mourning Theater for 7pm(we did this a week before our trip) so time was a big factor in dining. We decided to try Sweney’s Tavern since we needed to be at that house anyway for the show. It seemed crowded but they found our group of 5 a nice booth. We explained that we had a show booked next door for 7pm(it was about 6pm) and they said they would have us served and ready in plenty of time. They were not kidding! They have the fastest service ever! We had all ordered sandwiches, which were tasty, although I do agree with the previous reviewer who said home made chips would have been the icing on the cake. Several of our party ordered the fries though and they were done to perfection. The servers and staff were the sweetest, friendliest people we could have asked for and went out of their way to accommodate us. We went back again the next day for lunch, and we received the same fast service and super friendly attention. I would definitely recommend this tavern and when we go back to Gettysburg we will without a doubt eat there again.

«Can I check your ID?» No, I didn’t get asked that. I wanted to check the ID of the bartender. Everyone working there looked like they were still teenagers. Being in Civil War era attire, maybe that’s legal? My glass of Tears of Gettysburg(Adams County Winery) white wine was way too sweet and reminded me of a girly cocktail. Sadly, the menu consisted of all bar/pub food with the exception of the Game Pie. There was lots of meat with not much else, and I wasn’t able to tell if it really was peasant, duck, or plain old shredded turkey. Only the top of the pie was covered in crust, which was flaky with a croissant consistency. The dark brown gravy/stew went well with the crispy fat fries. I would have stayed longer for a few drunken rounds, but the bartender probably had to close up shop to watch for enemy soldiers… or sleep early for a school night. :P
