It’s atrocious that Walmart would place their store so close to an historical site of such significance. The store lives up to the usual Walmart standards of griminess and poor service. The sole reason it receives two-stars is that I’ve used it a few times when I was in urgent need of a particular item and no other stores in the area are open or accessible in the time frame in which I required the item. The positive: Walmart has a broad selection of most retail goods, so if late one night one needs to replace a florescent bulb, for instance, or if early one morning one needs to buy some wooden yard sale signs, this store will live up to the task. The negative: The store is dirty, inside and out. At the main entrance to the store, look up and observe the filth on the«WALMART» sign that could be mitigated with a little preventative maintenance that would have little impact on their bottom line. Some staff are helpful, but most with which I’ve dealt seem poorly trained. On several occasions I’ve asked for common items, only to discover that they are out of stock. For instance, I ask for rock salt(which could be found at the supermarket across the street), and the uncertainty in the clerk’s voice makes me wonder if the item is actually out of stock, or if it is just hidden somewhere in the store. I once asked if they stocked a rod hockey game, only to bounce back and forth between two associates for thirty minutes before coming to the conclusion that they had no idea what I was asking for. I once spent thirty minutes in line at the pharmacy on a busy day, only to be told that I was in the wrong line, and that I had to wait at the other end of the pharmacy, likely for another thirty minutes. I politely told the clerk to take it to the other line herself as she was already in the pharmacy, and she complied, but she seemed neither happy about it nor cognizant that anything was wrong. Conclusion: Pretty much all the typical problems associated with Walmart apply to this store, but on occasion it is useful.

It’s Walmart what do you expect? One of the few that doesn’t seemed to be fully stocked.

The fact that a Wal-Mart is within a hundred miles of a historic site irritates me.

Much like the Wal Mart in Hanover, PA. And the one in Westminster, MD.
