Great Mom & Pop Gyro/Hotdog stand. Fast, hot and a great gyro. I am so glad I stopped, very friendly and courteous staff also! I had the Gyro plate and it was super yummy!

This is a favorite lunch spot in our family. My husband has been coming here for years! The food is authentic, the ambiance is casual, you order at the counter and you bus your own table. The guys working are great, and they seem to love kids(my son was given a stuffed animal from the claw machine when he didn’t win anything from the machine!) Every time we come to Chicago, we make a stop at The Works! You should, too!

Been here twice now! First time had the 2lb gyros which they give so much but never enough pita bread, really yummy. Tried ½ chicken which was really good. Some family had the hot dogs and said it was really good. Had the fries which were good as well.

The works has the best gyros and Italian beefs! All of the employees are extremely kind. If you want fast service, hot food, this is the place to go! Very affordable too!

If you get the gyros sandwich be prepared to be disappointed by every other gyros you get from somewhere else. I like the gyros plate and get an extra pita to share or eat yourself. Best deal around.

Came here for a quick lunch. Got a pork shish kebab and gyro plate. It was delicious. The meat was juicy and cooked just right. Onions an tomatoes were solid. And the tzatziki sauce complimented the meat. I was definitely happy with my choice. The only other note was that the staff was really warm. Definitely polite, but also pretty personable. It rounded out an overall excellent first experience. I’m a fan for sure now.

Still as good as ever. I love the grilled chicken that’s cooked to order and the gyros. This place has been here forever and the reason is because the food is good and fresh and hot.

The gyro was just OK. lots of meat, yes, but the tzatziki sauce was a giant glob of sour cream that was way too much and saturated the entire sandwich. and with all that, still very bland, somehow. was asked 3x if we wanted fries, but never about drinks. when we asked for a drink, the guy at the counter said he already rang us up, and said, OK, i’ll give you a large, as if he was forcing us to buy a large for not ordering to his liking. not recommended.

37+ years in business as of 2015& the reason is the quality of food. Still the best gyros around AND delicious french fries. Owner is on-site almost always but the crew knows their business & are always positive. Ok, so the décor is also 37+ years old but hey, consider that part of the charm. Prices are extremely reasonable. If two people order the gyro plate(bigger than the gyro sandwich & $ 1.00 more) you just may be bringing home leftovers. Menu looks pretty good & there are photos of the menu items.

Grabbed take out here for lunch for a group. Hubby said gyros are a Chi-town staple. I definitely liked the gyros(VERY generous with the meat) more than the hotdogs. Not sure why people rave about the cheese fries, which I thought were not that great. What was better were the deep fried mushrooms!

Been coming here for the last 20 years since I was in high school. Never disappoints. Best cucumber sauce for the gyros hands down. Love this spot.

I used to tutor in the area, and The Works has always been my go-to lunch spot: D This place in a plaza off of Golf offers Grecian specialties(gyros and the pork shishkabobs), Athenian chicken, fried shrimp, fish, salads, sandwiches, hot dogs, and sides(such as tamales, onion rings, garlic bread, and chicken tenders). I’ve tried their Char Cheddar Burger, their Cheddar Dog, the Polish, the Pizza Puffs(of course!), as well as their gyros. All are pretty tasty and are cooked to-order. The staff here are also pretty friendly and efficient, and there are plenty of seating inside for you to sit down and chow down on your food. For solid Greek and American fare, check The Works out! +pizza puff +gyros +Polish +friendly and efficient staff +plenty of parking

Our«go to» for hotdogs n gyros cuz it’s a couple blocks from home. Hit or miss sometimes on the Gyros. For the most part gyros are great. Once in a while it’s really dry meat. Burgers are flame broiled but doesn’t really hit the spot for me. How can you go wrong with a Chicago style hotdog with everything on it? Yum! Think I’ll have to start exploring the menu more to see what the 4 star rating is about.

We’ve been coming here for years, since I was a little girl. The gyros, burgers, and hot dogs are delicious. Cheese fries are a must! Inexpensive and great tasting. Friendly staff!

This place has the best of everything! The gyros, the pizza puffs, the cheese fries, the cheeseburgers, the hot dogs, the combos, you name it it’s great! We have been coming here for 15 years and we will keep coming here as long as they’re open. The guys are all so friendly. Andy is the best! It’s like hanging out with family when we go there. I recommend this restaurant to everyone I know! If you haven’t eaten here you need to!

The front décor didn’t leave me with a ton of expectations, but there are many hole in the wall places with great food, so I took a leap today. The 3-star review I am giving today is one not of «mediocrity» but rather«you’ve got runway to grow if you want to.» Very good portions, larger than I expected even in a playe combo. The meat was very flavorful on my kabob plate, and I happily at that. However, the cucumber sauce was fairly bland, the pita is not homemade so it’s flavorless, and the fries were just lifeless and disappointing in terms of taste. That’s the shame of it. Really nice people with frankly some good protein. But the other 40% of the plate was disappointing, and you aren’t coming here for the ambiance. Have courage to use more seasoning. Be more bold with what you’re serving, and please give the same love and attention to «everything else» that you give to the entrée. I wish you all the best!

Pretty decent food from a place you wouldn’t be skeptical to dine in, yet not exactly the best joint you’ve been to. I used to live in this area as a kid and the BEST polish I ever had was at Hotdog Island which used to stand on the corner of this property. Sadly it shut down 10yrs ago or so and I have not found a polish that can match theirs. The Works had an alright polish but nothing remarkable. The burger might have been ok had they used cheese slices, but using the same melted cheese they spoon onto the cheese fries? No thanks. The gyros are good because they get them from the same place all the good Chicago gyro joints are supplied from. My only issue with the gyro was the onion came in big awkward chunks rather than sliced in a normal fashion. Maybe an off day? The service was fine but the guy who took our order didn’t ask any follow up questions or otherwise seem positive about taking our large order. I’m not saying the guy should roll out the red carpet but as a customer I give repeat business to places that take initiative and ask how I want something cooked or any extras, and as an owner I’d want customers to feel welcome and asked if they want anything else. This could have been an off day or something so I’d overlook it, but when it comes to food I’d only buy a gyro as long as they cut the onion smaller.

We are weirdly obsessed with The Works. It is not close to our house. The décor is lacking. But it is an INCREDIBLE gyro so we don’t care about anything else. This place is old school greasy Greek fast food, with a handful of regular old american fast food stuff thrown in. Just get the gyro(though the mozzarella sticks are weirdly satisfying) and don’t look back. And delicious fries! Occasionally they just give us all the fries they have, because they made too many, and it’s enough fries for like 5 people, and it’s just the best.
