Had a great afternoon talking a walk along the ocean. It’s awesome to see all of the spots honoring the history of the area. It was very clean. Lovely area.

This statue is a not only an iconic figure in Gloucester, but also in maritime history. It’s a powerful reminder to people how much we are at the mercy of the seas. Great photo op and not to be missed.

They that go down to the sea in ships The Stacy Boulevard Park is a nice little place, cool views of Gloucester Harbor and a pleasant place for a walk along the ocean. There are even distant views of Ten Pound lighthouse in the distance A nice little park indeed but the little park is very, very special because of one certain thing contained within the small park. The Fisherman Memorial and Cenotaph. A statue that is like none other in the world. The statue was completed in 1925 by Leonard Craske and was cast in Providence, Rhode Island. The statue is a real person, Capt Clayton Morrisey of Gloucester. He did indeed go down to the sea many times. There are lots of statues and monuments but none other quite like this one. Every time I see it i get a real feeling of what it was like to be out in the wild anger and fury of the ocean. Seeing photos of it is cool, seeing it up close is something else entirely. The statue is rough cut to show the toughness of the fisherman. The look and eyes is one of concentration, the fisherman is steering into heavy weather and rocks, he doesn’t have time to look pretty or poise. One of the most incredibly realistic and poignant statues and monument i have ever experienced. Placed around the monument are the names of all the Gloucester fisherman that went out to sea by never returned. A whole lot of them and the list still is a work in progress. Gloucester is where the movie The Perfect Storm took place. People still go down to the sea here and some do not return. Just a small park, but one that is like none other. One of the most powerful memorials anywhere, this is very hallowed ground. A place to be silent and respectful. a place to shut up and just feel.
