This place has good food and okay service. It’s not quite as good as the one in Allendale but their hours definitely make up for it. If you’re used to real Coney Islands of the east side, this will not fill that desire but it will come closer than anything else in Grand Rapids.

I came for chicken lemon rice soup and a Greek salad. Overall the salad was very good but they were out of Feta. The chicken lemon rice soup(avgolemona) was about a 5 on a scale of 10. It was so thick I could have molded it into a small statue and it was very bland.

Grand Coney is a lifesaver at 3 in the morning! It’s a locally owned diner that features an extensive and fairly creative breakfast, hot dog, and sandwich menu. The servers are super great and attentive, even during the night shift. I wouldn’t be that chipper if I were working such late hours. Ya’ll are saints. Shakes = yummy. Appetizers = my favorite, so much so that I’ve compiled a nice little list! –Fried green beans(yes!) — Mac n jack bites: deep fried Mac n cheese and bacon bits — Mozzarella sticks –Deep fried pickles(their awesome bestseller) — Pretzel bites(good, although kinda pricey just for pretzels) — Onion rings Last time I was in, I departed from my appetizer galore routine and ordered the Hippie Hash, and it was amazing. Feta cheese is my new standard for eggs and skillets. Thank you, Grand Coney. Thank you. If I’m only kind of hungry and want to save money, I just order my own invention: two eggs with mushrooms and toast. Keep that ability in mind if you’re not feeling an entire meal. The reason I gave this restaurant only 3 stars is that I wish the appetizers were cheaper than a meal. They really aren’t, and it’s rather disappointing.

WE love this place. Everything we have had here is good. Our favorite thing on the menu is the Flint Coney, the hot dogs are Koegel’s and they taste like the ones back home in the Flint area. We haven’t found any other place here in Grand Rapids like them. The Greek salad is favorite of mine too here. Glad to hear they are opening another restaurant on 28th.

I went here twice on a recent short visit to Grand Rapids. It is a real treat, a trip to the past. Open very late, and very busy with people of all types. Good chili and hot dogs. Great service.

Great place to go with a large group. We went the day after Thanksgiving with a huge party, tons of kids and we were put in the booths in the back corner. It was great for kids — wonderful kids menus that entertain older children(fun puzzles, each menu is different), friendly waitress, and kids meals were huge portions(you can sub toast for pancakes). A much better option than IHOP.

This is the granddaddy of all greasy coney diners. I frequent this place often for breakfast on the weekends, and I usually never have to wait for a table. It helps that it’s open 24 hours(one of the few 24-hr establishments in Grand Rapids). My go-to breakfast is the hangover skillet(especially if I’m feeling the name), which has potatoes(I sub hash browns for the American fries), eggs cooked to order, cheddar cheese, corned beef hash(the good stuff, from the can), and sausage gravy. Comes with toast. It’s fattening, greasy, salty and just what you need to cure what ails you! However, on the lighter side is the(meaty) hippie hash, which is a new menu item as of earlier this year. It comes with hash browns, broccoli, tomatoes, mushrooms, feta, eggs cooked to order, and you can add corned beef(real pulled corned beef, not hash from a can!). It’s one of my all-time favorite breakfast dishes. Of course, they also have other diner standbys, like chicken tenders, club sandwiches, burgers, salads, milkshakes, and obviously coney dogs! The service is always fast and friendly. On days where I can’t decide where to go for breakfast… this is where I end up. And I’m always happy to be there.

This was the worst breakfast I ever had the displeasure of eating. The eggs were over cooked the toast was soft and the American fries were inedible no taste whatsoever. Please do your self a favor and avoid this restaurant. I made no attempt to return my food as I was with a group and another person in the group recommended this place. The only saving grace was the waiter was very attentive and pleasant.

What happened here? Ordered the olive burger and got a cold patty with a tub of mayonnaise on it. Got home to find a surcharged side was completely forgotten. Just give me my money back.

Incredibly friendly, helpful and attentive service. I was very impressed with the quality of service. Food was hot, fast and satisfying, just what you want from a diner.

I love coming here late at night and there is no one here. I love the fried pickles, when I come I always try to get it. I would not suggest coming on a Friday night or a Saturday night because it gets pretty busy. I had made the mistake of coming here on a Friday night and let’s just say the service was really slow. Other than that I will travel 45 min away just to eat here! It beats ihop and Denny’s by far.

Usually I rave about this place, but tonight was the worst experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant. My sandwich was overcooked and the bread was split in 2 pieces. It was gross. I was given my receipt at 10:32pm. It took Jamela 15 minutes to decide to stop wiping tables and vacuuming to take my card. I don’t think there were more than 10 people in the restaurant at the time. There was no excuse for such horrible customer service. I’ve always loved this place because it’s close to my house and always open, but they simply can’t take care of their customers. If you’re looking for a great eating experience, you won’t find it here. Avoid this place at all costs!

The best corned beef hash in the galaxy. Not at all like the pulverized and squeezed through a tube hash that most places serve, but real chunky delicious corned beef on top of potatoes and topped with eggs. There is no other corned beef hash. Get it here.

UPDATE: I am very pleased to say that one of the managers sent me complimentary dining certificates to compensate for my poor dining experience. I am very happy and cannot wait to give Grand Coney another shot!

So my last visit to Grand Coney was awesome not because of the food, but because the people in the booth directly behind my friend and I spontaneously erupted into some very loud drama. It was epic. And this illustrates one of my favorite things about Grand Coney: go there late at night and you’ll see the most interesting mix of people ever. Food used to be awesome here, especially after a night of drinking. Nothing crazy, just regular, solid diner food. After not visiting in years, I returned and they’ve changed up the menu. I ordered the adult grilled cheese without really reading the description(my bad) and I will never do that again. It was basically some nondescript cheese and a whoooole lotta oregano. Guys, when I’ve been drinking, all I want is a grilled cheese: white bread, American cheese, fries. Boom. I don’t know if they even have that anymore. Maybe on the kids menu. The shakes are still good, they still have mozzarella sticks and breakfast, and the Belgian waffle hits the spot. But there is soooo much on the menu now when all people go there for is regular old diner food.

So this is my third time coming here, and I got The Hangover Skillet. Once again, I am impressed. Such a great place to eat, and hang out. Friendly staff and excellent cooks make it comfortable and laid back. The food was nice and greasy just as I expected with it being called The Hangover Skillet. Will definitely be coming back.

I drove an hour to get to this location for their Detroit Coneys as I am a transplanted Suburban Detroiter. I ordered a combo which I got one Detroit Coney and one Flint Coney and a small Greek salad. Service was excellent by Megan. I also got a Diet Pepsi which she kept filled! The coneys were very good and so was the salad. I even ordered another Flint coney and almost did not finish it, but I got through it as it was very good. The buns were nicely steamed too! I will be coming back again when I am in Grand Rapids. The Koegal hot dogs were very good and stuck outside the bun and they were snappy. Thanks for a great meal, it made my drive worth it.

This has been one of my late night spots since college. A perfect place to sop up the booze if you’ve been out drinking too. My best suggestion? The Sweet D Combo. «Your choice of any two coney dogs served with a side of chili cheese fries and a fountain drink.» Could that get any better after too much beer?!?

I just moved to GR from Cincinnati, so I wanted to check out their cheese coneys.(Cincinnati is famous for their chili coneys!) Immediately when I walked in, I felt like I was back in Cincinnati. Grand Coney has a U-shaped bar(with 2 tvs) along with lots of booths and tabletops. Their diner-style atmosphere is casual and inviting. I ordered the French onion soup, a mini-Greek salad, and a chili cheese coney. The French onion soup($ 4.49) was good – typical American-style beef broth with lots of melted cheese and croutons on top… although a bit too many croutons for me. The mini-Greek salad($ 3.99) was huge for a side salad. It had chunks of feta, cucumber slices, Kalamata olives, tomato wedge, red onion, beets(a bit strange) on a bed of iceberg lettuce. The dressing was a delicious red wine vinaigrette. My husband, who is Greek, approved! The chili cheese coney($ 2.49) was just ok – it was a basic hotdog on a white bread bun with chili & cheese. The chili didn’t have a lot of flavor. I asked the server if it had beans in it, and she said yes, but it didn’t. The cheese was kind of hard and fake looking – Cincinnati coneys are served with lots of fluffy, finely shredded cheddar for less than $ 2. My husband had a combo with the chili cheese fries and 2 coneys($ 8.99). The fries were hot & crispy! If you’re in the mood for some casual, diner food 24⁄7(breakfast, burgers, coneys, salads, sandwiches, greasy appetizers), check this place out! The servers were friendly and let us sit and chat as long as we wanted. I will be back to try some of their breakfast dishes!
