I went to Gus’ for lunch today, the atmosphere was pretty cool as far as casual dining goes, but I ordered to go and personally don’t consider«ambiance» to be that important to my dining experience. The menu has some interesting items, I settled on the Bridge St. Brie which has turkey, brie(in case you didn’t pick that up from the name) apples and cranberry jam on similar to ciabatta bread but was called something else but can’t remember the name at the moment(get over it). It was a bit of a wait, maybe about 10 minutes, but forgivable since it was during the lunch rush. The sandwich was really good, better than a subway/jimmy John’s/pottbellys. Was about the same price at $ 7 and came w/choice of chips, coleslaw or an Apple and a pickle. The pickle was a pickle, and the chips seemed to be made in house, but some of them were chewy. The non chewy chips are good, and if they are made in house I give them credit for the effort rather than a bag of chips like most sandwich places give you. Over all the food was good and I was satisfied. I don’t think I’d go out of my way, but definitely would keep it in mind if I happened to be going out for lunch in the area and would recommend it. I would be I’m interested I’m trying the wood fired pizza, but felt that would be heavy for lunch.

My favorite pizza in the area! The ice cream is soooo good and worth the stop. I haven’t had much of anything else on their menu because I am a huge pizza fan. Love it and crave it when I am pregnant! Traditional crust pepperoni is what I order. Also great reheated!

A solid place to get pizza, a sandwich and/or some ice cream for the kiddos. There’s always plenty of parking and access is easy. There’s plenty of seating inside and the service is reasonably quick and friendly. I’m not saying the food will set your taste buds alight, but it’s solid fare and reasonably priced. I got the«Sausage Nibblers»(ok, half a star off for the name — I feel like a dork ordering them, but it’s not as bad as the I-Hop breakfast I used to order as a kid…) They are decent. Essentially fried sausage bites with different available sauces. I like the hot sauce, but no one else will touch them if I do that, so I went mild this time. The kids liked them, anyway. I also got the«Fish Ladder» sandwich. A salmon sandwich that was decent with a good portion of tender salmon if not overly flavorful My wife got the«Bridge Street Brie» and thought it was pretty good My kids got pizza, and I ate some of each — one pepperoni with the regular crust and one black olive with the thin crust. I felt some of the toppings to be a bit skimpy(like the pepperoni), but they were fresh and tasty. The cheese was the best part. The crust was decent. I actually preferred the standard crust over the thin crust. Not mind-blowing pizza, but good. I have no problem with this place and I won’t complain if my kids ask to eat here. I like that my kids can’t eat all of their personal pizzas and so I always get some in addition to whatever I get for my meal. Having ice cream available is a nice touch too.

This is the first review where I wish I could give a half star. I would give Gus’s two and a half. The reason for the split is the split in the pizzas I tasted. The margarita pizza was fantastic, the cheeseburger pizza tastes like a tombstone. The pepperoni was medium and the all meat butcher pizza was great. The most consistent thing was the crust which I loved. It was think with a little flour on the bottom but soft when you bite it. This was my first experience and it was very Jekel and Hyde.

I’ve only dined here once but I love the fact that it’s quick! It was a perfect pit stop on our way to a game at Fifth Third Ball Park. My daughter had pizza, I had caprese salad. We sat outside on the patio and our food was brought out to us very quickly. Caprese salad was very good. I liked their balsamic vinaigrette. Tomatoes could have been a little more ripe. My daughters pizza was delish too.

I make it a point to visit Gus’ Original every time I come into town to visit relatives. I especially enjoy the Bora Bora pizza and strawberry patch salad. We arrived with a large party of 20 in between visitations when my father passed away. They accommodated us with no problem and our food arrived hot and delicious. I highly recommend this for large or small groups.

Great pizza and everything else. Recently had lunch at Gus’s Original Stone Oven Eats while visiting family in Grand Rapids and I can honestly say I would put Gus’s thin crust pizza up against anything I can find in Chicago. I had the individual pizza with artichokes and feta cheese and it ws outstanding. My husband had the cheese pizza and he was also impressed. My sister had the strawberry salad and her husband a sandwich and everyone was happy with their lunch. The prices are reasonable, service is spot on and I certainly plan to return the next time we are in Grand Rapids. I hope Unilocal posts this review since I would like people to know about this great restaurant.

Went to Gus’s a few months ago, for probably only my third time. Second time I ordered the Caprese salad and got little to no basil. The first time was a few weeks ago, and I literally was given was ONE basil leave, had to send it back and ask for more. Today I went and was given three leaves, 2 «big» ones and 1 smaller one. Had to send it back again, and this time they wanted to argue about it. Telling me there are«like 5 leaves here, but okay whatever.» and grabbed it and took it to the back. They appear to be very stingy. People from my work go there often and have issues with orders among other things. The food is just okay. It’s a busy lunch spot because of its location, not because of the food. The caprese salad, drama aside, is pretty good. A nice spring time snack. Others complain about uncooked food, oily sandwiches, extremely poor service and high prices. I would be just fine never eating there again, and hopefully a better snack place ending up in it’s space.

I LOVED this place! Great pizza and wonderful ice cream. The pizza crust is my favorite. It has great texture and great flavor. There is a pretzel flavored ice cream that I adore. I really love the wonderful decorations and setting. I really think that anyone who loves great pizza and ice cream should come here to eat. Not only do they have pizza and ice cream, but they have amazing coffee. Also, they are currently working on a gluten free crust. I have tasted it and it is amazing. You should definitely come here.

I took my family of five to Gus’s last night because we didn’t have electricity and wanted to try someplace new for pizza. We ordered garlic cheese bread, which was fantastic, and a large pepperoni pizza which although was undercooked a bit tasted excellent. The«wood oven» impart much smoke or wood taste in the food which is generally expected for a place cooking with wood. I suspect their oven may actually be natural gas but am not sure. I work in the food industry and appreciate the quality of ingredients Gus’s uses to make their crusts, sauce, and cheese. Even the pepperoni was a bit thicker cut and tasted of better quality than most places pepperoni. To make things even better, we fed our family of five for just over $ 21.00, which is truly a good deal. The drawback we noticed at Gus’s is the setup of the place; ordering at one end of a counter, then needing to walk to the other end just to pay seemed a bit silly. Also, the cash register, takeout counter, and dish return area is smack dab in the middle of the restaurant causing us to need to cut in front of people waiting in line every time we wanted a drink refill, get a napkin, etc. The layout of this restuarant could be much better, however the food is great and we’ll be back.

Plentiful, Delicious, Fresh, and Affordable — that’s Gus’s. I’ve had the Greek Salad, Smokin Pepperoni Pizza(holy moly so good), and the East Side Italian Beef. All very good, especially the Smokin Pepperoni, and it’s called Smokin for a reason — be ready for a kick. I love the cracker crisp of their thin crust, toasted just right in their stone oven. The greek salad was also delicious and I appreciate the generous amount of kalamata olives. The italian beef can be ordered dipped in au jus, or dry. I opted for dry, but wish I would’ve been served a side cup of au jus to do my own dipping. Perhaps I could’ve, and should’ve asked? I’ve also encountered the nicest staff when I’ve dined here during lunch hour, or picking up a pizza on my way home, which just adds to my enjoyment of this place. They also have a variety of coffees and ice cream bar that I need to try. Gus’s is definitely worth a stop. It’s casual, quick, and tasty. Your tastebuds will thank ya ;-)

They have some fun pizza’s here — a little of the unusual always attracts me! :) I had the bora bora but substituted the ham for chicken. Mango on a pizza?!? Oh yeah, I had to try that! I like nuts & fruit in just about any food I eat!!! The cheesy bread was good, liked the BBQ chicken & pepperoni pizza too. The day after I was here there was a Groupon posted so I bought it to use next time I go!

This is a great lunch or casual dinner spot. The pizza and sandwiches are excellent. It isn’t full«sit-down service», you order at a counter and then they bring the food out to you. It’s slightly more expensive than other lunch places, but the food is also significantly better.

I found the food to be very good and very reasonably priced. The ambience is nice too for what it is. I would say the place is fast casual, maybe a bit on the normal side, so don’t plan on it as a destination for a romantic evening or special events. Yes, the setup is a little confusing about where to go and what to do as far as ordering. But oh well. Regardless, the food is very very tasty and the menu is somewhat unique. I’m sure everyone(even picky eaters) could find something to eat and enjoy. I have paid a lot more money, in a lot more pretentious places, for food that wasn’t nearly as good as this. Big fan.

I’m really surprised that a place with a stone oven would serve undercooked food. They obviously have no clue how to use it. The«stove oven baked» italian beef sub that I ordered might as well have been warmed in the microwave. No crust at all, just warmed to melt the cheese. It was not dipped in or served with au jus and was very dry. I had to ask for au jus which had good flavor, but who serves an Italian beef with no au jus either on the sandwich already or offered on the side? They have no kid’s menu but offered to make my daughter a «grilled» cheese with mozz, provolone, or swiss and it also looked and tasted like it was warmed in the microwave, she spit out the first bite and wouldn’t touch it after that. To their credit the food was priced very well and the stuffed pappardelle peppers were good(2.99 for 6), but I wouldn’t go there for anything other than the ice cream(which isn’t theirs) and coffee. Waste of a stone oven if you ask me!

We stopped by for lunch today to try out the new place. It looked like they still had some setup yet to do as the menu’s were not up yet. I’m OK with that, it was clean and spacious. They had plenty of staff and they were very friendly. We got the medium 12″ Pizza Margherita for two of us. IMHO this is a true test of a pizza place is to see how they handle the most basic and classic of pizza. It was just Okay. When you claim to have original and wood fired pizza I put them to a higher standard than a Pizza Hut or Hungry Howie’s. The pizza came with 8 slices and only 4 leaves of basil? When the server came and asked how the meal was going and we mentioned this and she was happy to go get us some more. The part that really blew me away was a little later a manager came around and we brought it up to him his answer was kinda sarcastic at first and ended jokingly«WELLYA, there is only supposed to be 4 in the center, you are supposed to fight each other for it with a fork». Really? If I have to fight over toppings you need to put more on there. If its supposed to be a garnish, I’m fine with a small amount, if its an ingredient, which it is, then put enough on there to taste it in more than one bite. Then there was the crust, and maybe its me being a snob, but when I think wood fired dough, I think of a thinner, chewy dough, this was a regular fluffy soft dough like you would have on a regular type pizza. They also have the cracker type, but this was not that. Other than that it was good. The ingredients were fresh, the tomotoes were flavorful, the cheese melty and good. I’ll go back, but I’ll try the Margherita again when they change their recipe.
