More of an older crowd, classic joint. The steaks are very good but not great… I would say comparable to other good steak houses. The staff are nice and friendly.

Place is a little run down and dated inside but the food is delicious. I’ve been here over 50+ times and always leave 100% satisfied. I’ve ate here for dinner and lunch and always is on point. Monday through Saturday they offer a lunch special prime rib, creamed spinach and French fries(along with some other options) which is a great deal for only $ 35. There porterhouse steak for 2 is out of this world and probably one of if not the best steak in NY. I live closer to Williamsburg location but usually opt to drive to great neck because it’s less crowded and offer valet parking. There are too many tourists in the BK location. Not cheap for dinner but will not disappoint. Only cash or debit cards accepted.

If you love steak, this is like a new discovery… Ah-maz-ing You must go! I promise, its delicious. the most tender, flavorful meat I’ve ever had. They only take cash, so be prepared… SO worth the money though. My dad is so picky with steak too and he was a huge fan of this place. YUMM try the thick cut bacon! omg doesnt get any better than Lugers… the steak comes out sizzling hot, the steak sauce is so yummy(i buy Peter Luger Steaksauce at the supermarket in the cold area by the meats, but from here, fresh… omg so good)

The one thing i did not understand was we had to wait 10 min before being seated when. the restaurant. was pretty empty and I’ve called in prior to make reservations. Service in my opinion, I would give it a 5. Our waiter was great, attentive and helpful. We ordered the bacon which my husband loves! Ordered the porter house which I thought was just okay. The spinach in cream, wasn’t what i expected. tasted a bit, rubbery to me(I have had it at other places as well). The home fries(forgot the exact name on the menu) tasted like something I can get at a diner. In my own opinion, I am not sure if I would be back.

Overall: 3 Food: 4 Service: 3.5 Ambiance: 3 I’m not much of a carnivore, but I accepted a dinner invitation here because the Peter Luger name holds weight in the steakhouse world. I reluctantly agreed to share the Steak for Two, thinking it would be too much for two people. Then the steak was served. I nearly ate the whole thing!!! It was THAT good. I’ve never had medium rare steak before that was crispy on the outside. I thought it was delicious! My friends agreed it was good, but said they’ve had better elsewhere. The rest of our food — side orders of potatoes and creamed spinach — was good, but nothing outstanding. A little too oily for me. The complimentary bread basket, although it had a nice variety, was disappointingly served cold. The front of house staff was friendly. Service was a little slow. It was also old school, which was interesting; They bring the food to your table family-style, then plate it for you like your parents would… Ambiance is casual. Lots of families were here for dinner. Multi-stall BRs are by the front door. A few inconveniences here: Payment is by cash and debit card only. Also, valet parking is required, but it’s complimentary(tips accepted).

I honestly don’t like any restaurants, or any place for that matter, that is cash-only or we have to use their ‘store credit card’. Getting this off my chest. I came here for a friends birthday party around 5:30pm(we had a group of 9 [including 2 kids]). They told us to wait for the rest of our party near the bar(which also had a seating area that was filled by another group of family). My fiancé and I decided to sit at the bar and was thinking about getting a drink when our party showed up. The hostess told us to wait a few minutes to get our seats ready. First, the bartender gave us an attitude cause we weren’t ordering anything and then when my friends kid became fussy from standing, I decided to sit them on my lap, which then the bartender started to snap at us and told us to get away from the bar. This old ass had no right to bark at us. It’s not like they were trying to go behind the bar and grab the liquor bottles Our group of 9 then got seated in the middle of the room by the(mini) staircase. We were back to back with another group that was there before us. I just found it ridiculous that the room was empty but they put two big groups next to each other. The steak, onion rings and creamed spinach were pretty good. Since we were celebrating a birthday, we did tell our waiter. They came out singing with something that looked like dessert but was only whipped cream with a candle on top.(I actually scoffed when I saw them bringing it out). For a restaurant who makes so much, they really skimp out on a small stuff like this. So why only one star? The bartender, seating arrangements, free cold bread, whipped cream dessert, and cash-only can ruin an experience

How would you like it when the waiter says to you, «Why did you change your seat? Theres a reason we seat you this way, now I can’t get past you”(shakes head and walks away) All the same time, tossing dishes on the table at us like we are beggers and knocking over the salt. Its like we are begging the Lord for food and service and pay to play jenga with the dirty dishes. The bacon and the porterhouse were wonderful but were made tasteless by the terrible experience. Avoid server name Donald at all cost, he will make your blood boil. I just had the most abysmal service at this location, the server we had was giving us terrible attitude throughout our time here. His attitude quickly changed when a large party was seated next to us, then his attitude changed to a much better tone one; I guess to not let the larger table know what a giant ass hes been the whole night. The service was absolutely the worst thing I have the displeasure of experiencing in my ENTIRE life. It feels I am paying money to have someone insult me while I am with my family. So dissapointed because this place deserves better servers for their delicious food. I notice that other reviewers who experienced bad service mention that the server might be a bit subjective to people of oriental nationalities, but im not sure how accurate this is since this was my first time here. Also be cautious when walking past their valet parking space, their drivers are quite reckless when exiting the lot.

I can’t believe I haven’t written a review after coming here six billion times! WHERE oh where do I begin! So the receptionist is extremely friendly which is always a great start. Even with a reservation and if your table is ready, they will send you to wait at the bar for a minimum of 5 minutes to get you to buy a drink. it’s a sales pitch, it works, I’m not complaining. When I come here for dinner(which has been 20+ times in my life) there are a small number of options. being that it’s the best steakhouse in NYC and the island, the steak is A+++++++++! The onion bread basket is to die for, and even better when you dip it with their Peter Luger steak sauce. the sauce is like no other and has a distinct difference from those who try to copy it. The drinks are small and can be finished within sips, which kind of sucks but I won’t take away a star for it since I love them so much. The service is top notch and the waiters always make sure you have everything you need as soon as you ask for it. When I come here for lunch, the burgers are so big I can’t even finish them. It’s not even even expensive either, when you think of Luger prices. $ 16 for a burger that comes with a side. sounds good to me ! Everyone needs to dine at Luger before they die. That’s all!

Service at the front can get a little shoddy when it’s busy at times, but the food is worth it. Every time I’ve been here I’ve had to wait in the bar area at least 20 – 30 minutes after the reservation time… but again, it’s worth it. Get the steak. Get the bacon. Get the holy cow hot fudge sundae. Everything else is up to you.

Came here a while ago! CASHONLY. servers are all genuinely nice and on the older side. Fancy and takes reservations! Indoors looks very woody and has a nice smell to it! Food was delicious! So filling and their spinach thing was also on point! I’d definitely go for the juicy flavor of this place!

4 stars for quality and 3 stars for service. My first time at Peter Lugers was on New Year’s Eve. Obviously there was a crowd and reservations were taken up fast like seats in musical chairs. Our dinner reservation was made at almost 11pm! But I guess the wait was worth it. I’m pretty sure we wouldn’t be seated exactly at our reservation time and I was right. We waited almost half an hour additionally. After I had previously checked in, she told me it would only be a few minutes. *waiting game* starts… apparently the guests on the no reservation list(who have been waiting for awhile, were seated before us even though we made a reservation) wtf. ok so we waited some more and finally us being the second to last party, was called. We didn’t even get any party hats which the manager had given out to most guests that were called ahead of us. Anyway… It took a good minute before our waiter finally got to our table. We came hungry so we ordered the steak for two and it was succulent. Meat was cooked perfectly and Taste was impeccable. The boss sauce was superb(their signature sauce) They are known for their sauce, which is pretty flavorful. I’m not sure if there are any refills on ice tea but my waiter never asked if I wanted a refill or nah. I get its late and it’s the end of the day and you’re working on nye but customers like us know that and we consider that when tipping because we know y’all rather be getting turnt up and party with friends rather than being stuck at work. I get it I get it but no excuse for slacking… took forever to get our request for water as well. Honestly I felt like the waiter spent more time accommodating the table next to us and they came after us… um hello? Where’s my water? Ughh. Ok enough ranting. Food quality is good, service was mediocre not very genuine imo. Will probably try the other location next time. Oh and bring cash or debit card and know your PIN number! No other major credit cards accepted.

My family and I went here to celebrate my cousin’s graduate school announcement and I was excited to try the well renowned Peter Luger steakhouse since everyone raves so much about how great it is. We had a 7:45 reservation and it took a little bit of time before we were seated and we were a party of 9 but we were squeezed into a table that should’ve only sat 6 – 8 people max. Our waiter(I won’t say names because I’d feel bad if this man gets fired since he has a family to feed) was not very friendly or smiley and I read some reviews prior to coming just to get an idea of people’s experiences here and I had only read one negative review and that was due to a rude waiter. I don’t think we had the same waiter and our waiter was average, but he wasn’t very sociable or smiled much. He was attentive with taking our order and changing our utensils and plates, but he did not refill our waters(and these glasses are tiny!). When I asked him politely if he could refill our glasses he kind of patronized me and said ‘I’m GETTINGTOIT…’ And I don’t think his tone was very professional considering we were going to be paying more than $ 500 for this meal and a hefty tip in addition to that. We had three orders of the Porterhouse for 2(two orders medium rare and one order medium) and the filet of sole. We also had a side of broccoli(apparently you have to pay a whopping $ 9 to be able to eat healthy at this restaurant for one head of broccoli you could probably buy for $ 1 at your local supermarket) and a side of fries. The steak was alright, nothing fancy. I’m not a fan of super fatty meats and I like my proteins flavored well and I thought that they only added salt and a little pepper and it was lacking, and their signature steak sauce(aka cocktail sauce) added better flavor to it. We also ordered the Wholly cow sundae with schlag and a slice of cake for dessert and they were alright. Overall, experience was average but I don’t think I need to go back. I can make my own steak and it would taste ten times better and I wouldn’t have to dish out even close to $ 100 to pay for a full meal x. x sneaky sneaky that they only take cash or debit too! No credit card processing fee for them lol.

What do we know about Peter Luger Steak House? –Number One Best Steak House in New York City for 32 Years in a row by Zagat –Michelin One Star — I made the reservation over the phone, arrived late and waited for an hour. The wait was for worth it. Ordered the: –Porterhouse for Two –Sizzling Bacon –HOLYCOW –Free Breads –Free Chocolate coins The Steak is HUGE and it was already cut before they serve it. Once again, It is still by far the greatest cooked Steak I’ve ever had with or with their astonishing steak sauce. No appetizers(thought it was not necessary). I also had the sizzling bacon again, still satisfied. The service here was a lot better than their other restaurant. My medium rare porterhouse steak was nicely done: Tip: Cash only or Peter Luger Credit Card. I will come back next time!

The reason this place is famous is very simple — white table clothes, white table cloth service impeccable meat, food and drinks. Steak houses seem to know how to make martini’s colder and thicker than most other restaurants. Subscribe to the idea that chipped ice as opposed to stirred is the correct methodology, that’s the reason. Those little ice flecks floating on the surface of the gin or vodka continue to melt and keep the drink cold. There’s simply no way make a better or colder martini — shaken and not stirred. Bond was right and those that think otherwise should drink something else. Bacon steaks as an appetizer served with thick cut, raw and unripe tomatoes and onions works simply because the bacon is so rich and fatty. Ordering here is very simple — steak for one, two three? Choose. Steak is prime and served on the bone but sliced off. Choose the piece and enjoy. Always cooked medium rare, some of the best meat that comes to NYC goes to this establishment or the original in Brooklyn. A finer steak will not be found anywhere in the city. Juicy, nutty, rich. A perfect char on the outside. Snooty but impeccable service. Cash only. Go as often as the doctor allows steak.

Worked up an appetite cycling through Flushing Meadows Park… would it be soup dumplings in Flushing or wait… Perhaps a nice juicy burger straight down Northern Blvd @ Peter Lugers . Sounds good to Lee M, so burger it was. I haven’t been there in a million years and noticed a few things right away. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and friendly. Polite man at the reception in a sharp suit asked if I knew it as cash only. Yup… I did,(doesn’t everyone ??) I also think that debit cards are ok too… And maybe, just maybe I was visiting from Brooklyn and have my own PL credit card… We took a peek at the bar area, all seats filled on a sunny Sunday at 12:20 pm… Go figure ! Then we were seated in a flash. Awesome bread basket, 3 different rolls, 2 of each. Loved and devoured them … And the generous pat of butter that we each had. Lee M went right for their Sunday chopped steak… Basically the same patty as the Luger Burger, without the bun. Also comes with their fries, which he loved and a hearty portion of their signature creamed spinach. Quite a deal at 18.95. He added a slab of their well adored thick cut bacon(4.95 and 1.50 for the cheese) and was happy happy happy !!! I knew exactly what I was going to have well before we even arrived… Not a huge carnivore, I had my mind set on their decadent Holy Cow Sunday. A goblet of French vanilla ice cream doused with a rich fudge and smothered in a tall heap of shlog… A thick whipped cream. A nice amount of crisp fresh walnuts and a cherry made me a happy gal. I left half of the whipped cream over, it was so rich. All and all, a nice treat. Service was joyful and impeccable, one waiter friendlier than the next, but I prefer a more modern scene when I go out nowadays.

There are only a few things guaranteed in this life which are Taxes, death and a great steak at Peter Lugers steakhouse! The Brooklyn location opened first but we like to come to their Great Neck location. First, being a German girl, the Bavarian décor makes me feel so cozy like I returned home with the German steins and Tudor windows and high beams and tapestry over the fireplace! The servers are not sugar coated personalities but true professionals knowing their cuisine and serving it up quickly without a flaw. Their never ending attention to detail is a happy change from waiters who want to talk all day to you instead of what their job really is. Our server Jorge was the fine example of this. We ordered the USDA prime sirloin, medium with cream spinach, also Peter Luger burger with fries. What more can I say about a perfectly seasoned cooked steak? You really do not need anything else but the creamed spinach was the best, not too creamy, right consistency and flavor! The famous Peter Luger Steakhouse sauce is so good, I started dipping my onion and pretzel rolls in it! The Peter Luger burger was good, very juicy but needs a tad more seasoning, also the fries were lukewarm and not the greatest, but to be fair to this fine establishment, you go to Peter Lugers for the steak. Case closed! Thank you Peter Lugers for being a constant in this world of uncertainties where this carnivore’s steak is concerned! Ps love the PL huge Gold Coin chocolates at the end!

I do cheat on the Palm every now and then and when I cheat I go to this steak house. Peter Lugers has an old world charm about it that is fantastic. It’s a very intimate dinning experience. My father and myself went to this cash only establishment after a funeral one evening. We ordered the steak for two medium rare and it was very tasty. The creamed spinach is excellent. They also have a nice wine list. We ordered a bottle of either Merlot or Cabernet. It was good. All said and done I recommend this place. The food is great and so is the old world charm.

So I’ve been coming here with my family for the past few years usually to celebrate special occasions(birthdays, graduations, etc). The service has always been very attentive and welcoming but the server we had tonight made me question on ever coming back. This review is based on the service not the food. I made reservations for a party of 9 for 8pm but the hostess said to come at 745pm. Our whole party arrived on time but they didn’t seat us until closer to 8pm(so why not let us have the 8pm reservation?). Anyways, after being seated we were greeted with a big welcoming smile from Mark. We usually have him when we come and always have a great experience. But, this corner was not his section and we would be served by Donald. From the moment Donald came over to pour our glasses of water, I knew it was going to bad news. No smile and his personality was just plain rude. I was ordering for the table and he was just like I can’t hear you. Um, if you can’t hear me why don’t you move closer to me so I don’t have to shout at the top of my lungs to give you the order? We ordered four pieces of bacon and in the most nasty response ever just said«it comes in only slices» as if we were stupid and didn’t know pieces = slices. Before the food came, he asked if we wanted to keep the bread, and we did, and I overheard him mutter off the food won’t fit at the table. He came back around a few times never to ask how we we were doing on our appetizers but to mutter 10 more minutes.5 more minutes. few more minutes. Once the food came, he served everyone at the table. When it was my turn to be served he looked at me and said you need to give me a plate I don’t have giraffe arms. I held the plate up and he still gave me an attitude. Listen, if you don’t want to serve me then don’t bother to do it with attitude. I didn’t come here to eat at Peter Lugar to be treated like crap. While he was cleaning up the table at the end, he barked orders to my youngest brother to move the glass so he can clean. I’ve never been to a restaurant where the waiter barks orders at you. If you need to clean the table, you move the glass yourself. Also, he only came by once to refill our water. He never came by to check up on us throughout the meal and at one point we were gonna get the water pitcher ourself. I never felt so disrespected and mistreated before especially at a restaurant like Peter Lugar’s where the service is suppose to be top notch. I hardly write scathing reviews about poor service but this one takes the cake. The steak, appetizers, and side dishes are always consistent. But this server needs to take a lesson in etiquette and manners.

I went here with my wife for our anniversary. I made a reservation for 6:45PM. We got there on time but we were told to wait by the bar. Our table was ready at 7PM. We ordered a slice of bacon as an appetizer $ 4.95. The bacon was a thick slice about 10″ long. Delicious. For dinner we ordered the steak for two $ 103.90 and a order of onion rings for $ 11.95. It was cooked exactly like we ordered medium well and was delicious. Onion rings were good. Our waiter, Marty, found out it was our anniversary. We didn’t order any dessert but he brought out some fresh whipped cream with two candles and chocolate coins with the Peter Luger name on it. He sang Happy Anniversary to us. Very nice! Another great experience.

What can be said that hasn’t already been said? Peter Luger’s Great Neck is phenomenal. Prior to my dinner here, I’d never been to a Peter Luger’s before. I’d heard some pretty bad things about the rude service at their Bk location, so I was excited to try this location in hopes of having a better experience. My party of 4 made a reservation for 6:45 on Friday. After arriving and checking in with the host, we were asked to wait by the lounge/bar area for our table. While waiting, we had some drinks. They definitely don’t skimp on the liquor here; the drinks are STRONG! I had a gin martini that knocked me off my feet! Best part was halfway through with my drink, the bartender whips out a new chilled glass and poured the remainder of my drink into the new glass. What attention to detail! We were finally seated around 7:20, but we didn’t mind since our Peter Luger experience was already getting off to a great start. The waitstaff immediately set down a basket of delicious breads, individual pats of butter for each of us, and a gravy boat of their own steak sauce. We placed our order and dove into the amazing bread. A must-try is their onion roll; it has caramelized onions on the INSIDE. Y-U-M! We had 2 orders of the steak-for-two(rare and medium rare), 3 strips of the thick-cut bacon, creamed spinach, German potatoes, and an ice cream sundae. The quality of the food was just what you’d expect from a restaurant with a reputation like Peter Luger’s. Needless to say, the star of the meal, the steak, was cooked to perfection. The bacon was salty, fatty, and porky delicious. The potatoes and the creamed spinach were great accompaniments to the steak. And the sundae? The perfect gluttonous ending to an extraordinary meal. And finally, I would be remiss if I neglected to comment on the service. The waitstaff were friendly, helpful, and funny! They definitely get a thumbs up from me. *insert thumbs up emoji here*
