This was my first visit to Macy’s at Southridge since it opened. What can I say? I don’t go to the mall much! The store was very bright and shiny, giving it an ultra modern and clean look(and by clean, I mean both architecturally and cleanliness-wise). I did not buy anything here because I couldn’t find what I was looking for, but I have been to other Macy’s stores and had positive experiences. The only bad thing I have to say about this store is that it is SO monochromatic that it is very easy to lose your bearings… I kept getting turned around looking for the exits! 17⁄2015

I learned, «don’t go to this local» if you are plus sized. I had purchased a dress at Macy’s online for our cruise and the upcoming Frostbite ball. It looks ok but I wasn’t in love with it at first and wanted to see if I could exchange it toward a different dress. There were only 2 dresses and they were obviously returned in the clearance section. Also I searched for a shaper and couldn’t find any plus sized. I had minimal help as the store just opened. I ended up going to Layne Bryant across the street.

SOUTHSIDESWANK I like Macy’s as a whole. And I’m grateful that they’ve given Southridge a shot with their art-deco-inspired, shiny, new store. I like the Mondrian images subtly integrated throughout the store. NOHASSLES… I like that Macy’s makes returns hassle-free. Let’s face it, not every item is going to be a winner. But no one has been as warm and fuzzy about it as Macy’s. I think if I carted in a pig in a wheelbarrow, they’d try to find it in their inventory and return it for me. Their coupons are also easier to use, especially the $ off coupons. Apparently, they figured out that it pisses someone off when the item is a penny short of qualifying for ability to use the coupon, so Macy’s honors the coupon regardless of the shortfall. And when you feel better about the place in which you shop, you DO spend more. It’s psychological for most people. THEHIREDHELP… Damn, they are a nice group. They have always bent over backwards to help me – and not in that pushy way, but in a way that I genuinely appreciate. They seem to remember patrons as well, which makes you feel welcome. NOTPERFECT… The southridge store is not getting the labels that one has come to identify with Macy’s. The staff there assures me that change is coming, as buyers respond to us lowly southsiders’ pleas for even a sliver of an assortment that says, «I know I live on the south side. But I demand more than poly-blend.» I secretly get satisfaction in the rare instance that someone gifts me with a DESIGNERLABEL item from Macy’s that is not my size and I have to return it at Southridge. It is the only way that the south side location will get any introduction to the more coveted merchandise. FIVESTARS for MACY’S Southridge! You’re a welcomed addition to our neighborhood – we’ll grow on you, too!

How refreshing it is to walk into Macy’s and find clerks who are willing to help. Unlike Mayfair where the staff is either over 65 and act like they are too exhausted, therefore cranky or under 30 and act like they are too good to waste their time on you, at Southridge’s Macy’s the staff is energetic, helpful and extremely friendly. Both the younger clerks and those that are older are the nicest I’ve ever seen and they go out of their way to be helpful. The store is fresh and new and the ever-changing stock makes me want to come back often. From the housewares to the women’s and men’s clothes to the Clinique counter, shoes and handbags… every experience in every department was excellent. I am so glad to finally have a quality place to shop on the south side.

This store is CLEAN and although that is more than likely due to how new it is, I don’t even care. It’s beautiful inside! The merchandise is properly displayed and allows for better browsing(the Mayfair store, not so much). The staff is extremely hit-or-miss though. I have had so many negative experiences in the shoe department alone, I’ve given up on them entirely. If an associate can be seen leaning on the couches, staring literally off into space and then running out of the department when there are customers and no other associate around, that’s not a good sign. Several make it very clear that they couldn’t care less to help anyone, which is hopefully not the impression Macy’s wishes to leave. I pay attention to how staff treats others, as well as myself. I didn’t appreciate seeing an associate shrug off a customer who needed help in a different department. She simply said, «Oh well there should be someone there…» But there was no other associate there to help them(which is, hello, why she asked). Then, help them! I have had more positive experiences with other departments that don’t ruin the store entirely for me: Lingerie, Men’s, Women’s, etc. The selection of clothing is definitely not the same as Mayfair which is both understandable and okay in some ways. The reason the store looks cleaner is not only because it is new, but because their selection doesn’t take over the the entire store. This only works against them when the selection truly suffers as a result, such as in Children’s and Lingerie.

This store coming to a worn down mall has brought new life to the area! New stores and restaurants are coming. This store is very clean and the associated are helpful and friendly! A welcome addition to the south side Milwaukee suburbs!
