Very good sushi and a sushi chef who knows his stuff. Large portions at a good price.

One wouldn’t think just by the name of this restaurant they do sushi. They do have pretty good sushi but horrible service of missing orders(more on that later). This place is a narrow restaurant with cathedral ceilings. A small bar is by the entrance and the sushi bar located down the hallway. The décor is lacking as it is just an open space. I ordered a miso soup in the beginning but I never received it. I also ordered the calamari which was sub par at most, the squid looked like the ones that came from the frozen bags from the grocery stores. The breading on it was quite impressive though but it did come with a really watered down mayo dip which was not very original. For the entrée I order nigiri sushi a la carte. I love the size of their sushi here, it’s on the large size. Their mackerel and tuna were moist and delicious. Their eel is fantastic especially the sweet sauce on the eel. I also had their octopus and salmon eggs which was good too. Their rice mix for the sushi is tasty and does not crumble when handling yet it breaks in your mouth wonderfully. I came here with a group of 10 friends and there were 2 other small family customers… so it was pretty empty. That’s why I’m still pondering why we had such horrible service. There were 3 servers with no direction of who’s doing what. I never received my first order of miso soup which was then on my bill that was later removed. The sushi came out one at a time and none came with soy sauce bowls. We had to keep requesting it every time a dish came out. The biggest negative is that one of our friends never received her entrée. We asked a couple of times and she ended up just eating ademame the entire hour and a half. I didn’t find out until we were paying that she never received it and she just gave up since she wasn’t really hungry anyway. They need to train their employees if they want to be more than just a sushi bar.

It may be the only sushi bar on Elm St downtown but it’s still a great place to stop. The catch is that you have to ask DJ the Sushi Chef what the best fish on hand is. He always has a good recommendation. He also has some interesting creations that are not on the menu. Just ask and be adventurous.

I went out on a limb choosing this place for New Year’s Eve dinner. I was worried it was going to be busy, but it was relatively empty! Luckily it was still pretty new in town, so I don’t think many people had discovered it yet. Tunazilla is a great sushi place! They brought everything out in a timely manner and it all looked and tasted fantastic. I got the ecstasy and 007 rolls, which I both enjoyed a lot. My one minor complaint would be that we ordered champagne to go with our dinner, but they served it to us in normal water goblets not flutes. When we got our second bottle, we were given flutes. It was just kinda strange. Anyway I’ll still be returning soon!

The sashimi and avocado appetizer with spicy ponzu sauce, miso soup, and tuna goodness roll are definitely worth 5 stars. The sashimi appetizer was actually amazing, it was the freshest I’ve had in Greensboro and I could have eaten 3 of these(not because the portion wasn’t generous, but it was just that delicious). I also enjoyed the chicken udon, but next time I will probably order more rolls and sashimi instead because I enjoyed them so much. Boyfriend got the Pad Thai he wasn’t very excited about it, that’s the only«not 5 star» portion of the night. The atmosphere of the restaurant was calm and quiet, we sat at the front window and watched all the people walking down elm st, a big plus for people like me who enjoy people watching. Service was great, attentive to ordering and refills but not hovering and very helpful when we asked questions about the menu. I’m excited to go back!

Delicious sushi. The sushi chef at the bar prepared a couple fresh rolls for me and they were fantastic. The wasabi was a little on the weak side. Pretty good atmosphere, except for the horrible American music that was playing. I would have preferred something a little more… cultured. Very good lunch, all things considered.

Very fresh and well prepared sushi. Got the Ahi Tuna Roll and the Miami Vice(crunchy tuna roll). All very good. Dim Sum very good too. Tried Tuna and Salmon Sashimi and it was very fresh They have just opened and waiting on ABC permits so no bar service yet.
