Service, portions, the food, and price are all excellent. Basic American food in a very clean environment.

Quantity over quality. Even after setting my burnt chicken fried steak aside, the waitress wouldn’t ask how things were. She already knew and probably tired of the responses. If this was truly Gresham’s «Best Breakfast of the Year» in 2014, they have either slipped or they had no other competition.

Our first visit here was on Mother’s Day. There was a bit of a wait which we expected. Once seated, they took our order and food wait was not long. The staff are friendly. Definitely going back!

Food is bland but portions are still huge. My last 3 visits were progressively worse. 1st time was alright. Had a huge omelette. Service was good, coffee always stays full. 2nd trip in the last year was confusing. We sat in a little table in the back corner upstairs. Within 10 minutes a larger group sat at the table beside ours, cutting us off from the rest of the restaurant. Servers apparently forgot we were back there. We eventually were served burgers & fries that were pretty good. My third & last trip was for breakfast again, this time I had chicken fried steak with eggs cooked over easy. Our server was great, but the food was bland & the whites of my eggs were so clear & goopy that I couldn’t eat them. This place is a Gresham Landmark, but it’s just not how it used to be.

A coworker had suggested this place to my boyfriend because of the huge portions, and they definitely delivered on that. Unfortunately, that is all they have going for them. When we got there half of the tables were dirty, so I asked the waitress to clean one off for us — she literally ignored us for the rest of the time we were there and had a «busboy» take our order and serve our food. PS it’s the short waitress that has been called the worst server in Gresham in another review for this place — I completely agree. Sorry I asked you to do your job. The food came out almost too fast and there was an obscene amount, as promised. Before we ordered I had asked another employee if there was meat in the chili used in the chili omelet, he said«no» but when I cut into it there clearly was, so I didn’t eat it. Luckily I had hash browns and toast, both of which were not great. Everything is premade and/or from a can. I’m not a huge food snob, but I do appreciate a thought out meal made with a shred of care. Don’t bother going here unless you are really hungover or starving. I would have given this place one star if the person who served us wasn’t as helpful and nice as he was. At least my boyfriend got what he wanted/expected, which was a huge plate of biscuits and gravy.

Great service, but very average food, at best. Will try elsewhere next time.

I had biscuits and gravy and link sausage. The sausage was small but pretty tasty! The biscuits are soft and the gravy was good I don’t think either one of those are homemade but they were still good which is all that matters in my book! Both of the girls that helped me were very sweet and I never had to wait too long for anything during my experience. I will be back next time with us my husband so I can try something else on the menu

Well the food is about average. Be prepared for LARGE portions. Plates cost more than the usual but its also because the meal is big enough to feed 3 people. I ordered the country fried steak and after a few bites I was pretty grossed out. Super chewy meat, which took me too long to try and chew. Service was pretty fast and my husband and daughter enjoyed their breakfast. Solid 3 stars for me.

Delicious food. Wonderful staff. Huge portions. Reasonable prices. A small laid back place. One of my favorite places in Gresham to get some good food. Large menu, serving breakfast and lunch. They close fairly early, but its a great breakfast.

Portions… huge. Great value. Friendly…Super quick service. Warm neighborhood atmosphere. I don’t want to downplay these two factors… they are huge positives. Then there’s the taste… I don’t know if I’m just in a funky taste bud mood or what but everything tasted bland. The chili was… filling, had all the right ingredients, fresh cheese and onions on the side… but just… totally disappointed in flavor. The bacon… plentiful and cooked to perfect crispyness… but tasted like… something cooked? Hashbrowns… looked amazing, perfect golden on the outside, warm to the touch… flavor less. I would hands down recommend this place for the morning after a night of heavy drinking… or for any meal after not having eaten in a day or two… but not for a regular meal or for anything especially tasty.

My husband picked us up breakfast this morning, it was all good until I found a large black hair stuck in my bacon. I was pretty grossed out, upon further inspection, I found another in the hash browns. I will never order food from this business again. Invest in a hair net.

In between a 4 and a 5! As everyone else said, portions are huge. Got a full chicken fried steak with the hash browns, scrambled eggs, and toast — to go, for 2. Got home, went to split the chicken fried steak in half and realized it already was, there was another to go container in the bag. This shows how huge their chicken fried steaks are. I thought the half of one was a full one. The chicken fried steak was good. I’d go there again for it. It’s always my favorite thing to get anywhere I go, but now I know where to go for a tasty, perfected one. Country gravy over it was awesome. I’d ask for a little less gravy.(Who does that!!! I know…). Hash browns were not seasoned at all. But it was fine because I mixed them in with my gravy. Scrambled eggs were the first to go on my plate. Delicious. All in all, great meal. 4.5 stars. I will be going again! ***Edited: The staff said the to go menu prices aren’t exactly the same. Subject to change within $ 1.00ish.***

ALWAYSGOODFOOD! If you’re looking for down to earth comfort food that is yum and comes in large portions without breaking the bank, then this is it. I like they’re steaks, omelettes, and especially their one pound burgers! The owners and employees are always courteous and friendly. I love bringing my family around.

Our family comes to McCrae’s anywhere from 2 – 3 times a year since we’ve lived out in East County. It’s not a place we go to for exceptional or noteworthy food. We come here for a straightforward diner experience on a Sunday morning knowing we can pay for one plate and share it between 2 – 3 people at more than a reasonable price. The service has always been very friendly and fast; our coffee never seems to run out. We are never rushed to leave despite being provided the ticket upon delivery of the food. I normally keep it simple with over medium eggs, hash browns and bacon or one of the scrambles/omelets split with my husband. Again, the food is basic and not particularly noteworthy but consistent and will do the job for typical breakfast fare. We will continue our leisurely returns, as McCrae’s offers that«small town» diner comfort that is reminiscent of my hometown.

I had heard about this place on The Food Channel and wanted to go. Finally went about a week ago and it was everything it was cracked up to be! The portions were MASSIVE and delicious! We had a 5 year old with us and he ate EVERYTHING! We ate there twice and I plan on going back the next time we’re in Portland.

Huge portions, great service, can get busy at times but the staff is on it. Probably a good thing they aren’t open for dinner or we’ll be there more often. 12 egg omelet what else can you ask for? Oh yeah a huge chicken fried steak. All of a sudden I’m hungry again.
