Slightly Different Café used to be owned by these«Orientals with an Entrepreneurial Spirit» as the current owners called them, and used to serve up everything from burgers, hot dogs, fried chicken to questionable Chinese/Japanese/Korean food(There’s a take-out menu of what they used to be where I work that attests to this). I imagine Slightly Different back then would have been interesting to visit due to the sheer novelty of going to a restaurant that is the total disembodiment of what in my mind is the definition of a «good restaurant»(i.e. a restaurant that does one thing but does it very well), but I digress. Slightly Different Café under current ownership is your average burger café – they serve up a modest selection of burgers, chicken, and wings, and a not-so-generous selection of fountain drink choices(all drinks are served in cans) The house burger was decent but nothing special; the only thing that would set this place apart from other joints might be the fact that you can opt for fried okra instead of fries, but that’s about it. I can imagine this place doing really well if they became a late-open hole-in-the-wall burger stand either right outside of Fort Gordon, on Washington Rd, or downtown, but the neighborhood and the lack of originality just kind of plays against the restaurant and its namesake. This place isn’t «Slightly Different,» it’s actually much closer to «Oh-so-familiar.»
