Really disappointing experience. I can’t understand the reviews as they don’t seem to have their act together at all. We ordered a Hawaiian pizza and it came out not very warm. The crust was REALLY disappointing for home made(hard to believe). They warmed it up but it was like mush. If you’re putting mushroom and pineapple on a pizza you better think about that. Calamari was very disappointing. Ceviche was actually pretty good and the tap bear was cold and good. Best for young families where quantity is more important than quality.

dear Unco Bo… ho, the food was ono… tanks eh… We Ordered: SPINACHARTICHOKEDIP w/fresh won ton chips($ 9.95): gooey, cheesy goodness… perfectly crispy won ton chips… yummers… UNCLEBO’S DYNAMITESHRIMP wok-fried in garlic chili aioli, topped w/parmesan panko crust($ 10.95): it was the perfect amount of SPICY… not tabasco spicy but spicy… «it was really cheesy. so good!» BOCA-ROTA garlic cheesy-bread, prime-rib strips, sautéed mushrooms, and mozzarella cheese($ 14.95): «yummers». perfect medium cooked steak in a creamy mushroom and mozzarella sauce… «i wish it had more sauce to dip my cheese bread in» Service: the Good — Robin was super polite… she asked the obligatory questions and put in our appetizer orders and the food came out fairly quickly. Rachel was as attentive as she could possibly be being that we were seated in the bar area. it took a while getting water refills but that wasn’t a big deal… She made our experience great… the Bad — it was fairly early when we got there with lots of seating available. although we were offered seats in the bar area neither of the hostesses gave us any menus so we kind of sat around for a while until Robin noticed us just sitting there waiting… funny because the same hostess sat another party at the table behind us and even walked them all the way to the table and gave them MENUS. go figure. verdict: it was okay… if not for Robin I would have voted that we leave and go somewhere else…

A fairly new restaurant/pupu bar in the middle of Haleiwa town. When I thought if Uncle Bo’s I thought of the one on Kapahulu which is basically a bar, but this Haleiwa one is pretty much the opposite. It is a nice restaurant with a full bar and outside seating. The ambience is very nice with their décor, tables, chairs, etc. Music is a little loud for a restaurant but expected being a bar as well. Has dim lighting to keep the bar/fancy restaurant environment. A casual dress code. Tables were fairly close but not a problem ay all. Only reason this place didn’t get 5 stars is because the menus they gave out were two sheets of paper stapled together and that’s it. Their drinks menu was much more fancy and presentable. If they plan to have such a nice looking environment, I’d expect them to have a little better presentation for their menus. Now for the food. I thought everything that we had was great. It is kind of like a fusion style menu. Started off with the calamari with sweet Chili sauce and the Boca rota which was absolutely awesome. It is a garlic bread with mozzarella cheese melted on top with some prime rib and mushrooms in the middle all on top of this sauce that put it over the top. Something that everyone needs to try. Brother got the filet which was pretty good for the price. Dad for the Garlic rib eye which was fairly big and came with a type of ponzu sauce/au jus. Oh and the garlic mash paired good with the steaks. Mom got the fish of the day, mong chong, Chinese style. Soft juicy fish. I got the s.o.s. which stands for soup or stew which had shrimp, crab, clams, lobster in a creamy but light sauce that they recommended with rice. Finished off with the Hobos which I think was deep fried poi balls with powdered sugar on it which you dip into a frangelico sauce which was amazing. Also came with a side of vanilla ice cream. So the way to eat that is pull the dough apart, dip in the sauce, eat it, then take a bite of the ice cream. A little warm and cold at the same time. Overall a great experience and very good service by coming back to check up on us frequently, refilling waters, and giving detailed descriptions about each plate. Will definitely be back in the future

I rarely bookmark restaurants but I did this one. Clean, new, trendy. Boca Rota was zesty and very garlicky. Loved it. Dynamite shrimp was creamy piled up goodness. Drenched in squeezed lemon. Hobos were fluffy beignets with ice cream and Frangelico sauce. Tremendous.

So happy we found this place! Yesterday, on Martin Luther King Day, we headed out to the North Shore of Oahu to see the big waves and surf. On the way, we stopped at Haleiwa town to peruse the shops and eat lunch. We had not been to Haleiwa since they were under reconstruction last year. It has really changed… for the BETTER(in my opinion). So, where to eat my family kept asking? We were so hungry, we would have eaten anywhere. But, we saw«Uncle Bo’s» and decided to go inside. WOW! Color us impressed! So ‘ono(yummy) with a casual, classy feel. We LOVED it and would go back in a heartbeat! The food was delish. I will try to post some pics(if I can figure out how to post on Unilocal). I am not technologically savvy:(Comes from growing up in the dinosaur ages… Lol. We ate the Boca Roto appetizer, Crab Cake with avocado salad and our son had the kids Chicken Alfredo pasta. Everything was really good! The service was AWESOME! The Bar Manager, Ray, helped us and was so attentive and friendly. He gave us great tips on what to eat and, all in all, just really took care of us! Even the waitresses were all friendly… And, at the very end, as we were walking out the door, I stopped to talk to the Assistant Manager, Darnell, who was carrying a Spicy Tuna appetizer that looked«to die for!» She was also very helpful and even gave us a some free appetizers«on the house.» All in all, we enjoyed the lunch so much! It was a great start to the rest of our North Shore journey. I would totally, without any hesitation, recommend eating here. The original one is located in Kapahulu for the«townies.» But, keep in mind, that they don’t serve breakfast or dinner. Thus, I suggest you make that drive out to the North Shore just to give it a try. I wish I could have given it 5 stars because it was THAT good. But, I only took off one star because of the drive. Lucky for the residents that live in the area!.. I really wish they had one in town that had the feel of this one. Also, the prices were a bit high for lunch and will probably sway the locals from coming back too often. Besides that, hands down it was Fantastic! I will definitely come back more often to Haleiwa just to eat at this establishment AGAIN! «Broke Da Mouth Yummy!» :)

Uncle Bo’s new location in Haleiwa is up and running in the Haleiwa Store Lots! Ample parking in the back was full when we got there, but it doesn’t take too long for someone to leave if you’re patient enough to wait. From the outside, the new restaurant looks very unassuming, just like the town location. When you walk in, it’s modern and contemporary! Not a lot of frills, but it’s got a beautiful bar set up with two TVs to watch the game(if there’s one on). We arrived at around noon time, and they had a breakfast/lunch menu. It was literally 3 sheets of plain computer paper stapled together. Not the fanciest looking menu, but I’ll give them a break since maybe they’re still tweaking the menu before they print fancier ones? I guess they serve breakfast for as long as the lunch menu is available before they transition to dinner. Seeing as I’d already had an awesome breakfast at Turtle Bay, I wasn’t really interested in anything breakfast-y so I skipped over that whole page. I was happy to find that during lunch they still offer the favorites that I love from the Kapahulu location(where I’ve only ever been for dinner). — Boca rota: MUSTORDER. Garlic cheesy bread with chunks of cubed prime rib in a creamy sauce. It’s hard to explain, but it’s so delicious and so sinful. I wish they did the prime rib with boca rota sauce and combined it with mashed potatoes or rice for an entrée. Or a salad? That would be one deliciously unhealthy salad. — Dynamite shrimp: Shrimp with a parmesan crust covered in a dynamite sauce fairly similar to the sauce on the boca rota. It comes with greens, so you almost trick yourself into feeling healthy. Almost. Also a must order. — Spicy ahi bowl: A bed of sushi rice covered with spice ahi, bacon, and furikake! I’ve never had a poke bowl with bacon, but it works!(What isn’t bacon good on, really?) Service was attentive, and I think Bo himself was walking around the restaurant. I love that they now have a location in Haleiwa and I will be back for more boca rota! Next time, I’ll probably come back for dinner.

LOVEIT, LOVEIT, LOVEIT!!! Ate here for dinner tonight with a few friends and all I can say is that everything was DELICIOUS! The atmosphere was really laid back and the restaurant had a modern feel to it. There was much more seats than expected. They had a few TVs in the back area that played the college basketball game and the Vans Triple Crown surfing event. We ordered and ate family style(shared the different dishes). I seriously think we ordered everything on the pupu menu. Everything was truly amazing. There is nothing bad to say about this restaurant. Parking can be a little tough especially during the lunch hour but if you go at the off times it should be fine. There are also public restrooms that are shared by all patrons shopping in the Haleiwa Store Lot area. If you’re ever in the North Shore, stop by the renovated Haleiwa area! Great deals are hidden there.

Another place that was recommended was Uncle Bo’s. The bar was empty when we walked in, we sat at the bar it was awhile until the bartender came over to us to take our order. Maybe it was a slow night? We sat around got some drinks and watched the vibe of the place. It’s small enough with a hipster feel. Maybe I shouldve visited the original location first before we came to this location. Plates looked beautiful but in my opinion food was a bit pricey, wasn’t too impressed by them.

Pretty good food in new location FOOD: I am usually a fan of Uncle Bo’s seafood pupu selection, but on this trip we decided to split a salad and pizza(mainly because the pupu selection is not as large as the Kapahulu location yet.). We had the mixed green salad and the Boca-Rota Pizza. The salad was pretty tasty and a large enough portion to share between three people, but nothing to write home about. A safe salad choice for sure. The boca-rota pizza was great! The pizza had a creamy garlic sauce base with large pieces of prime rib, mushrooms and plenty of cheese. This combination of topping was delicious in pizza form. My only complaint would be the bread they use for the pizza. It’s not very doughy, and more like a focaccia bread consistency and texture. SERVICE&SPACE: This newer space in Haleiwa is pretty cool. It look modern, clean and light. My complaint here is that I wish they would have a private restroom — as opposed to restrooms out back, which are shared with all of the other shops and restaurants. Just put in your own restroom for your patrons to use! PRICE: I felt the price was fair for the quality of ingredients. I would definitely return to this Uncle Bo’s location again.

Third trip to Uncle Bo’s in just six days. You got to go there, you got to eat there, and you got to let everybody know how good it is. Check out this out of the starters followed by the dynamite shrimp pizza. The only name for this meal is Dynomite!

I had no idea Unclo Bo’s opened up a second location our in Haleiwa! I love the original location on Kapahulu, I was super excited to try this new location since we were in the area. This new venue is definitely more spacious then Kapahulu, and they have parking available! Score. However since this is Haleiwa, parking can get pretty crazy. Service here is alright, since we had a larger group we had to wait a couple minutes so they can set up a table for us. The waitresses seemed confused on who was taking care of us too. We were surprised to find out that this location serves breakfast till 3pm. Breakfast is my favorite food so I was excited to try out the new menu. The Grub. [[ PEACEOMELET $ 11.95 ]] This omelet made with 3 eggs and filled with spinach, mushrooms, onions, bell peppers and tomatoes. [[ DYNAMITESHRIMPPIZZA $ 20 ]] This pizza is loaded with shrimp, mozzarella, and lettuce. My advise — DON’T GETTHEBREAKFAST. 5 of us ordered off the breakfast menu, and all of us was very disappointed. The only dish that came out good was the pizza… I’d have to say the 2 top reasons why the breakfast wasnt good was 1) Veggies in the omelet was hardly chopped up, it was like whole pieces I could hardly bite. 2) Over cooking eggs! One of our friends ordered the Classic Breakfast and they ruined the eggs! Number 1 no no for breakfast lovers. The yolk is the best part! I think Uncle Bo’s should stick to what they are good at and leave breakfast to other places.

New to Haleiwa, my friends and I gathered for drinks and heavy pupus. We love the Kapahulu location, but since we all live on the west side, Haleiwa is closer for us. Since it was new, we couldn’t make reservations. The wait wasn’t too long. There’s a host’s station you can check in with to see how long the wait will be. In the heart of old Haleiwa town in the newly built stand alone buildings(still resembling the old structures). Modern, yet casual. Sleek and clean. Full bar with tv and plenty of dining space. The guys in our group was saying how they love seeing us girls with our hair down because typically, we have our hair always tied up. We said it was so we could keep warm from the frigid AC. Food is always good! Recipes are the same as the Kapahulu location. We ordered the staples of Boca Rotta, steamed clams, beet salad, and poke. Parking is in the back, but with the many businesses around sharing the same lot, it can be pressing to find a stall. The staff is friendly and fast. The atmosphere is great! Awesome casual place. Great place to hang out for drinks and food for groups or a date or just stopping by after a day at the beach.

Thai-style clams: mine all mine. so good, rich and not for sharing. The tomato white wine sauce is great for dipping. I bet you’re going to request for more bread Calamari: crispy, heavily battered and comes with the perfect tomato-based dipping sauce Bo’s BIG nachos: someone thought a little bit outside the box when they created these nachos. It has mushrooms and crispy wonton chips. Walnut shrimp wraps: shrimp+walnut on top of lettuce. I need more than just 4 pieces. Escargot: buttery and cooked to perfection. YOBO wings: thick batter but not greasy, lots of flavor and has some kick. Roasted beet salad: lots of greens and beets, perfectly paired with walnuts and goat cheese Hobo’s: i love fried dough and ice cream together. i want them to be together forever! Fried ice cream: make room for this, and if you didn’t, just continue to shove it in your mouth because its worth the stomach pain you’ll get after eating too much. Being in Uncle Bo’s makes you forget you’re in Haleiwa town. The restaurant is modernly decorated, similar to the Uncle Bo’s in town. The bar is stocked full. Unfortunately, there isn’t a public bathroom in the restaurant.

Uncle Bo’s Haleiwa is nestled in Haleiwa town down the North Shore. For locals who are familiar it’s in the new developed area near Matsumotos and across from ACE Hardware. It blends right in with the older plantation style look. Uncles Bo’s down Kapahulu is really popular and food is awesome so we thought to test this place out. Parking lot is in back of building. It did have a good amount of open spots for the time we went which was a little after 6 pm for dinner. Even though we were a little late they still had our table available and sat us right away which Is nice. Ambience is really mellow and chill. Inside is, really nice. The bar caught my attention with its bright pink back lighting. Pretty cool. Looked semi clubbish. People dining were average mix of locals. Staff is friendly, quick, efficient, etc. Quick at bussing, food was quick, drinks were quick. Loved service! The menu is similar to Kapahulu, they have the restaurant recommendations or favorites notated with little hearts next to it. Everything is so ono. We ordered Boca Rota(prime rib, mushrooms and cheese plated in middle of plate w/garlic cheesy bread surrounding it) one of my faves here! Dynamite Shrimp(about 15 pieces of a semi similar honey walnut shrimp taste but with sweet chili sauce) really good too. Bo’s nachos, I might have name wrong. But it was massive. The chips were more like a wonton chips versus a tortilla chip, kalua pork with a tangy bbq sauce over it, all the condiments you can think of. Really ono as well and we ordered the pizza afterwards which was mediocre. Our fault why order pizza when the popular stuff is what’s good here. We also had an order of oyster shooters, really good as well, came with 4. We ordered from the bars specialty cocktail menu, so damn good. I had something that had whiskey and ginger in it. Forgot name but highly recommend if you like gingery tasting items. I would definitely highly recommend coming here, ambience and menu alone is well worth it.

Consider this a cursory review until I have a chance to make more visits and do more sampling. It was an A for the varied menu and pretty good food, and it was an OK for the offbeat service and price/food ratio. Went with a group of four about 10 days after they opened and it was fairly empty in the dining area around 4:30 pm, so we were seated promptly(albeit right by the kitchen door with a view of mops and what not). The bar would have been our first preference, but it was full. The atmosphere and décor was surprisingly sleek and modern with a black-and-white scheme. That said, I hope they spruce up the back area a bit more. The seating was super comfy. We ordered drinks from a decent array of beers and wine in the $ 5 — $ 10 range, although the waitress did mention they weren’t yet carrying every beer on their menu. I got a white wine to start and it was a fairly weak pour, so I soon migrated to beer. After a while, our waitress took our order. She was friendly enough, but when we asked questions and for recommendations, I got the impression she was winging it. Ordered the clams to start($ 17-ish), and I landed on the opah piccata pasta($ 26-ish) as an entrée because it seemed fresh and filling and i was starving. Everyone else got an entrée as well, including 2 steaks and a beet salad. Anxious to dig into our spicy clam pupu with our cold beers, all of our faces dropped when they brought out the entrees first. Fail. Clams came out a few minutes after and it wasn’t even acknowledged that they totally got the timing backward. The other disappointment was that the clams were really small — this is a pupu best shared by two people. There were less than eight because we didn’t get two apiece. The guys seemed to enjoy their steaks($ 30-ish) well enough, but their garlic mashed potatoes were super bland, and my friend had to hunt for beets in her beet salad. As we were wrapping up our drinks, signing the check, etc., the waitress was hovering closer than a helicopter. I have no clue what prompted this, but it was really awkward and lasted for more than 5 minutes. She was seriously one foot from our table staring at us. Another fail. I was so excited about this place and will give it more than another shot, particularly since they hadn’t been opened very long on my first visit, but I sure hope they iron out their service issues.
