The worse Mexican food I’ve had in a while, and I eat Mexican food 4+ times a week. Low quality ingredients but kinda pricey. I ordered a traditional plate and the rice was the only thing good. The chicken was cheap, fatty, and chewy, the refried beans were so-so and skimpy portion. Much better options out there.

Been here a handful of times now. Tried the carnitas, chile verde, and chicken. The porks were quite tasty, and the grilled chicken was surprisingly good. What puts this place on the top of my list is that it’s very clean.(I got sketched out by the food handling practices at another taqueria in HMB, which led me to try this spot.) They also deserve recognition for having a wonderfully photogenic burrito. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is that I’ve had better… but this is pretty close.

Wow wow wow … A wonderful find in Half Moon Bay! The chips and salsa are amazing as well as everything that we had — tamale, tacos(I had tongue, I find it delicious), pork carnitas that were so tender, juicy and tasty. Cheery and clean ambience inside. We will be back!

This place is a full blown top notch Mexican restaurant in disguise as a small strip mall taqueira. Their food is amazing! The place itself is small inside, and the tables are close together, but trust me! It’s amazing! You have to place your order from the counter, and they have their menu listed above head, and some of their items have pictures. My husband and I ordered the carnitas plate, large chunks of juicy pork with a light crisp to the outside of the meat. The plates are served with buttery rice with hints of tomato and beans with cheese on top. Our kiddos had steak tacos and a kids size bean burrito. They give you bowls for chips(with refills) and they have a small salsa bar. The salsa offered was a slightly spicy red salsa, a mild green tomatillo, a delicious blend of onions, lime, chili and cucumber, and traditional jalapeño, onion and carrots. The portion sizes are HUGE! As we waited for our order we saw some other orders come out and OHMY ! The molcajete looked INCREDIBLE! Huge prawns in a large cloud of the most fragrant steam, their jumbo burritos could probably feed 3 people, and their shrimp cocktails are enough to fill two. Can’t wait to go back and try some other items. What a gem!

Wow this place is amazing. If you want to get away from your regular burrito, try the chicken«Huarache». You won’t be disappointed. If you want to try something completely different and really authentic get the«Molcajete» if you dare. Best Mexican place in Half Moon Bay that I have been to.

This place opened up earlier this year in a town filled with taquerias… so I wasn’t really expecting all that much — but we noticed the place is usually filled with Mexican families, which made it worth checking out. And da. amn. Glad we did. This place is AWESOME. Definitely small, so you don’t want to hit it during rush hours, but definitely worth making the trip. I’ve had the quesadilla, the soft tacos, and the burrito… the wife has had the chile poblano and the enchiladas… and EVERYTHING has simply been awesome. Homemade chips and salsas round out the menu. Very authentic, very very good food… a definite thumbs up!

Thank you Unilocalers, we were starving and looking for a quick bite and this place was great. HUGE torta that was really good, delicious fish taco as well. Only thing I wanted that they didn’t have was a soda fountain. I mean you can’t be mad at Coke in a bottle, but I like ice in my soda. Other than that, no complaints and was glad we stopped.

So updating my previous review, from when this place was new… I come here quite often, usually for pickup, since I live down the street. These people are always confused, and don’t know much about their business. If something only happens once in a while, ok no problem, no one is perfect… but it just seems every time. Even wanting to purchase just chips for my party was a headache itself, as I went in the night before to ask about portion and price… not only did they have no clue, but they seemed shocked as in no one has ever wanted to order chips for a party before… I told them I would call back to confirm the next morning, which I did. Calling back the next morning to confirm, the lady on the phone(different than prev night) had no clue if they sold chips, how much they were, what size, etc… and because she didnt speak much english, i was trying to talk to her in both languages,(spanglish, as I am not latin), and she hung up on me because she didnt understand me… and screened my call when I tried to call back. Finally I had to have my wife call back, since she is latin, and speak to her in spanish… and even her their native tongue, they were still confused about the whole situation, and had to call people to find out etc, just for chips! Now last night, final straw. Got off work late, ordered 2 burritos to go for pickup, over the phone. I get there and there is a long line… ok no problem… but now the line is moving very slow, as they are confused about everything. The person ahead of me had also called in a burrito, and they were so confused as to what his order was, since they never ask for a name or anything over the phone. After 5 long minutes of them being confused about his order, I overheard, and told them they were confusing his order with mine, as I also called in. They said ok. I see them making my burritos in the back, and they were making with whole beans(i asked for refried)… so I politely said, «excuse me, if those are my burritos, I ordered refried not whole»… She told the lady what I said, and overhearing in spanish, they just were SOOOCONFUSED, DIDNTKNOWWHATTODO, and finally just continued making the burrito in an annoyed fashion, sloppily rolling it and throwing in a bag, and then tried to hand it to me. as I CLEARLY saw they never replaced the beans or made new burritos. I said. ummm those have refried? She said YES!, and then I confronted her as I saw it didnt’ and she asked the back, and they confirmed that they DIDNOT, so she tried to lie to me to get rid of me or something, instead of just switching the beans out WHILETHEYCOULDHAVE, since the burritos were still open and in process of being made. After a long line, confusion, and a 20 minute trip to just pick up freaking burritos, I got fed up, and said nevermind and decided to walk out, as a built up frustration on every trip here… As I walk out, a taqueria drunk(i am sure you see these sometimes in taquerias,) yells out(donkey/asshole) in spanish. Which pissed me off, as you can imagine I am frustrated after multiple situations with this place. So I turned around and confronted him, and he literally wanted to fight me. One person in his party apologized for his drunkness, and the cook in the back came out to difuse the situation. It is crazy how lack of common sense and customer service these people have. I know they have good intentions, but MYGOD! A review for a taqueria should not be this long, or take this much of my time up, but mannnnnn. Maybe I will try back in a few months, but back to mediocre happy taco it is. (ps: they use alot of lard/oil/butter to cook their meat and make it «Tasty»… but honestly, it taste better if you request no oil/lard… I know a lot of taquerias do this, but sometimes its just too much and nauseating, and honestly unnecessary)

Love the Super Carnitas Burritos. It’s really good with the salsa from the bar. My family loves the Chicken Tacos and Chicken Quesadillas as well. Personally, we prefer the taste in this little place better then the Tres Amigos down the street. Also, the way they kept their free chip warm really set it apart from the rest. Will be back from more!

The burritos are giant and pretty good. Recommend eating outside for a view of the safeway and CVS.

I really like this place! It’s inside the Strawflower Village shopping center. It has a very diner-y feel. I ordered chicken fajitas, and the portion was very very generous. I even got gauc and some type of salsa/lettuce type sauce. It was delicious. Yummy rice and beans with cheese on top as well. The chips are SO good, perfectly hot, a little greasy(in a good way) and very crunchy. Their red salsa is quite spicy, so be careful. My favorite is the salsa verde(the green one.) Reasonably priced as well! I recommend.

Don’t let the 3 stars fool you. It’s a pretty good taqueria. A simple fish taco, with fresh ingredients, yummy salsa. Job well done. My husband ordered the combo with 2 Carne Asada’s and it came with a huge plate of beans, rice, etc. It was HUGE. Oh! and of course, the free chips and salsa! This is the perfect amount of food to give you some energy before the coastal hiking. You can walk off all the calories afterwards!

Ordered two burritos that consisted of just carne asada, guacamole, and pico de gallo and was not satisfied whatsoever. First, the burrito was falling apart because I asked them to take out the beans+rice,(the burrito filler) in which one would believe they would add more meat instead, I was wrong. Second, The burrito was also filled with crunchy scraps of beef fat. Third, the woman at the register was on her cell phone and disregarding customers. Lastly, which I believe many will find utterly disgusting, none of the cooks wear gloves. I can’t imagine what goes on behind the scenes back there and seeing no gloves made me want to leave. I didnt want to finish the burrito so I let my dog devour it and even he barked at me! All in all, I wont be back, ever.

Nothing quite special or extravagant about the food here, not super authentic either. The food wasn’t really fresh tasting and I honestly felt as though they could’ve had more flavor in the dish I ordered, three stars for this mediocre somewhat«authentic» restaurant.

Very good eats on the drive from San Fran down to Santa Cruz. Nice little Taqueria, very friendly folks. Of the free salsa and toppings bar. Free nachos = ++++ thumbs up! Even though counterperson forgot a couple things we ordered(missed out on the super taco), it was still a very worthwhile visit. Wife’s torta was somewhat different than what we are used to on the East Coast but still excellent. Daughter’s burrito was right on the money, my fish tacos were two thumbs up. Mexican Coke, ice cold Horchata, Aguas Frescas made it a nice traditional taqueria. We totally recommend a visit here. If we are ever back in the area, we will be sure to visit again — and we suggest that you do too!

It’s a taqueria, and it’s great. Not wild, not foodie approved, but just really amazing food and delightful service. I can’t wait to go back. My family and I could not stop talking about how great the food was. We popped in for lunch and soon there after were tasting interesting salsa with our warm tortilla chips and then diving into our entrees. Bottom line… Go Here. As a long time fan of Tres Amigos and Happy Taco, I we reluctant to give this new comer a try. I only wish I tried sooner. The food was well prepared, service fast, and menu interesting. Chips and salsa were also not your standard bin-o-chips. Taqueria La Mordida suffers from the lack of an interesting location, but more than makes up for it in food quality, taste, and unique offerings. Our food was plated, garnished, presented nicely, and delicious.

The first time I stopped here I was in town for meeting and in search of a nosh. Walking around the plaza I heard Caifanes playing from La Mordida. I’m a sucker for Rock en Español. I ordered two carne asada tacos two al pastor. They was no wait and the tacos were prepared to perfection, sprinkled with cilantro and cebolla under a spicy salsa. This has become my typical order. The salsa bar is well stocked and I recommend you try the rajas and the green salsa.

Had a fun day out on the beach and was in need of food. Damn it Tres Amigos is full. Let’s head up the street to the new place. I was surprised by the cleanliness of the space and the amount of food they gave. The quesadilla had more beef than cheese than I’d normally prefer. I’m sure the sun and all that walking changed my mind. For a small space they crammed a lot of seating. Somehow there were still not enough seats.

I’m always down to check out new businesses, especially taquerias. We came in on Valentine’s Day to grab una mordida(!) after a run. They have a walk-up counter and a large menu that spans from quesadillas, tacos, and burritos to molcajetes, chile rellenos, and tamales. I was stoked. It all turned out to be very, very good Mexican food made by folks that seem to be having a great time in Half Moon Bay. Gotta love a good vibe. We got the Carnitas Super Burrito($ 7.50) and the 1-item Combo w/Chile Relleno($ 7) with a large Horchata($ 2.50) — the prices are great for solid portions, and they’re happy to bring you extra tortillas if you need them. The horchata was real, and very good — not watered down. The free chips and salsa bar are icing on the cake — freshly fried chips and complex salsas that may sneak up on you. A couple of them were pretty damn spicy. My favorite part of our meal was our server busting out a beautiful ballad from the kitchen. I’m not even kidding. She got a well-deserved round of applause, and better watch herself because now people are going to expect that every time. ;-) If you’re in the area and looking for a solid break from the beach, check this place out.

Great new taqueria located in Strawflower Village. And open late! A very rare thing in Half Moon Bay. Prices are pretty comparable to other joints in the area. The husband and I enjoyed an al pastor burrito and carnitas nachos. We also helped ourselves to their chips and salsa bar. The chips were really good and the salsa was fiery and flavorful. The taqueria is bright, clean and there a decent amount of seating. And there is a bathroom :) I’ll be back.
