I have to agree with another reviewer. We used to be regulars back when it was new, and haven’t been in a few years. But the smell of the moldy carpeting(or worse) was nauseating. They tried to seat us in the back close to the hall to the bathroom and I couldn’t tell if it was also chemicals covering a sewage odor. Seriously folks, rip out that carpet, get mold treatment, and update your menu. There are way too many Japanese Sushi places around and you’re not the best. Go with an all Thai menu after the place gets an overhaul. We need more good Thai.

Been there quite a few times, but the last experience turned me off this place forever. First, when you walk in, the smell of the old carpet will make you lose your appetite. The food however, just adds to the unpleasant feeling. I ordered several take out dishes and was totally disgusted with their quality. to the point of driving several miles just to return the smelly, moldy unbeatable food. I will never go back to this place!!!

Been here multiple times, my brother loved this place and he was there weekly so I when I was in town he took me over. Everything I had was delicious. Great fresh sushi, I love their Tom Ka Gai soud, very creamy, spicey and tasty, the mushrooms were just right in the soup. I have never had any of their Thai stuff(other than the soup) but their sushi has been great each time I have gone.

This place is okay. The food is tasty, fresh, and hot but its nothing special that you can’t find anywhere else. We had spring rolls, some sushi combo, seaweed salad, and spicy pad thai. Pad Thai was served with lemons(where are the limes?). I don’t get the Thai/Sushi combo. It’s like there is some sort of identify crisis going on… Also, we had takeout but the atmosphere in the restaurant seemed a little strange. It was in an old house, which was weird, and there didn’t seem to be a lot of people dining in. If your in the area and want Sushi or Thai this place will do the trick. It’s not bad by any means, just nothing to write anymore about…

Been here a few times… great sushi spot, always fresh. Very good salmon skin hand roll and sashimi. Tried out the Thai food for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. Green curry was excellent. Tom yum also. Also tried the Thai fried rice with chicken and shrimp and it was excellent and not greasy at all. Highly recommend!

Disappointing. Japanese and Thai fusion w/nice décor wood accents and finish burnt yellow walls. Big sushi bar plenty of seating . Tom Yum soup is sizeable but at $ 9 ouch even though it’s filled w/tons of vegetable actually I would say too many vegetables and way too many onions chopped up big along with 3 or 4 large shrimp. The red flag was rising because a staple at any place that claims to be Thai is the Tom Yum soup. I ordered the soup spicy and it was medium at best a big boo. Great flavorful green tea. Pad Thai w/super small shrimp really, looking like a gelatinous colorless mess.$ 7 lunch specials is a great price but other than the fried tofu the dished lacked in all aspects. No flavor and over cooked rice noodles = yuk! I know this particular place existed for many years as a sushi joint but unfortunately I will never get a chance to sample. Definitely not worth a poppin, Unilocal another place before you spend $ here on Thai anyway.

Décor a bit dated but food was good. Many different unique rolls and specials. Can’t beat the dinner box for $ 19. Too much to finish!

The outside of the restaurant looks exquisite, like an old manor or something, and the tables and seating was cozy, yet comfy. But then it goes a bit downhill from there. The waitresses seemed rushed and pushy. The food was, ok. Satay skewers were good with the peanut sauce, pad thai a bit bland as well as the pad kashew. Sushi was mediocre, but still edible. We’ll see about coming back here…

Best place in monmouth county for sushi and thai lunch specials. I have been coming here for over 5 years. Dinner is great as well. You can’t beat their prices in this area. The inside is a bit drab but the food is A+. I would recommend all the maki rolls except the spicy salmon(was a bit chewy the past few times). Their pad thai is great!

The best sushi around. Love their sushi sashimi combination. Thai food is good too. I haven’t had a bad meal yet. Service is great.

I used to work within walking distance from here, and frequently got lunch here. It was always good.

The satay and sushi were good. The pad Thai tasted exactly like puppy breath. GROSS. Couldn’t even eat it.

This place is quite the unassuming spot on 35 and had I not been 1.5 hours early for a movie across the street I may have missed out on this restaurant. While it’s not much to look at on the outside the service, food and price more than makes up for it. Despite arriving at Aligado during lunch hours I was promptly seated and served my main course within 15 minutes of arriving. The miso soup and sushi were GREAT(the sushi was so good I turned my friend from being a sushi hater to a lover). I just wish I remembered the name of the roll I ordered. If I’m back in the area I’ll stop by again.

I’m not sure why this restaurant receives good reviews, I must have made a fatal error in ordering Thai. Upon entering, the pungent smell of old fish was first to greet me. I ordered hot tea, which came in a cup smelling of rancid dishwater and past its prime fish! The Tom Ka Gai I ordered was inedible… rubbery, almost mushy stale chicken and mushrooms that were days away from fresh. I put it to the side and waited for Pad Tha, hoping that something would rescue my experience. The Pad Thai that was presented to me lacked ground peanuts on top, contained scant bean sprouts, gelatinous, clumped rice noodles, and 5 shrimp, each smaller than one inch. The only positive thing about this dish was the perfectly seared tofu and abundance of fried egg. I stopped eating after 3 bites. All in all, if you go to this restaurant, be prepared for a somewhat dingy, dirty appearance, a funky smell, and skip the Thai choices on the menu.

I love Aligado! Although it looks run-down from the outside, don’t let that stop you from trying it. Once inside, the setting is quite nice and spacious. The waitstaff is so friendly and they even have memorized my family’s order because we go so often and usually order the same thing. To start, their hot tea is amazing. It is steeped in brown rice and has such a rich taste. I would recommend ordering it. The waitstaff will continue to fill it up for the rest of your meal. As for the food, I love the penang curry. Also, their Victoria Secret shrimp roll is quite good as well. I wish their Thai menu were a little bigger, but this place is awesome!

The sushi, spring rolls, and battered tempura here and great! Also i love the Thia dishes– they are tasting and not to heavy Service is always good and the food is very reasonably price only negative and suggestion on what not to get– the duck! Probly not the smartest thing to order duck at a thia/asian place but my fiancé was curious– oopss He does not like Thia cuisine however he always gets the beef with peppers and onion here and a bowl a rice and he is very happy with that So it is nice that they do a good beef dish so I can enjoy my Thia would recommend this place to anyone — even people not to into the cuisine because of the fact they offer a few dishes that even non Thia lovers would enjoy Oh yes and it is a BYOB

I have only been here for lunch: Their lunch specials are pretty good. I usually get the pad thai(comes with soup or salad) or the maki combo(two rolls of my choice and soup and salad). Service quick and efficient. The pad thai is good. Our last outing, the shrimp seemed less than fresh, but nevertheless, in all it is usually good.

I’ve been coming here for years and this place is easily my favorite restaurant. This is the restaurant that made me like sushi. I really cant throw around enough superlatives to describe Aligado. The sushi is always fresh & damn good, the thai food is on point, the service is great, and its just a nice relaxing place to get away and enjoy an excellent AFFORDABLE meal. Go there a few times and befriend the owner George; he is a great owner who takes care of his regulars. So much so that he has had me out to dinner w/his family, took me to weddings & has taught me how to make sushi. He also pretty much forced me to eat sushi for the first time & there’s been no looking back since I’ve had about ¾ of the menu & recommend almost all of it to people. Their signature rolls are pretty exotic — which after reading other reviews, makes me scratch my head as to why this is a negative. My currently vices are the Crazy Tuna & Fairy Tuna rolls. They’re both incredible! I could also inhale salmon sashimi & sweet potato rolls. My other favorites are the beef satay, pad kra pao, thai fried rice & their seaweed salad. To me, the other selling point on Aligado is the atmosphere. Sure, as some other Unilocalers have said, the interior is aging. Oh well, everything else more than makes up for it though. Its kinda like a Cheers of sushi. I feel like I always run into someone I know & something interesting often winds up happening; be it a first date, a boisterous ladies night, a night of sake bombs or god knows what. Anyway go eat here, say hi to George, eat great food, enjoy good company, and then snicker when the bill comes b/c you expected it to be a lot more.

Aligado is solid for sushi. I always order the sashimi, so my experiences is limited to that. Miso soup is good, just never quite hot enough. Ginger salad dressing is phenomenal. The waitstaff are incredibly sweet, and usually send over free edamame when we go in.
