While the food was amazing. The site did not mention it was only a BYOB. This was my first time eating at this restaurant. Also, my party and I wanted to eat hibachi. upon entering the hostess was talking on the phone and hung up did not say hello. or offer us hibachi or table seating… We later heard noise and learned that they do offer the traditional hibachi show.

Very nice place. Nice cozy décor(much better looking inside than exterior) and tasty food. I had veg pad Thai which was light and full of various veg. Husband had basil chicken which was also well seasoned and not too heavy. Had the Thai ice tea which was delicious. Waitress was very attentive. Will defiantly be back!

Great quality, love their salmon rolls! The price is pretty regular, but it’s worth it.

One of the best restaurant we have ever been! This is a new restaurant, and yes, everything is brand new. The food is great, and price is right, and the waiters are very very nice and helpful. I strongly recommend, especially their lunch box, the best deal!

The first time we went here, we sat at the sushi bar. Everything was great, the food, the service. I thought it was decorated beautifully. We went back recently and that was the last time. Yes, the food was still good(there is better in the area IMO) however the service was HORRENDOUS. Once we were seated, we were brought menus later and a few minutes later asked for drinks. Then we waited. And waited. About 10 minutes with our menus folded ready to order. I said I’ll give them 5 more minutes before we leave, it almost came to that but right before the five minutes was up, we ordered. I think to wait 15 minutes, actually more because we were seated to place an order, is ridiculous. We ordered one appetizer and two entrees. Twenty minutes later, we received our entrees. I said to the waitress we never received our appetizer. She look puzzled. She asked do you want it now? We declined. During dinner, not once did someone come to check on us. I dropped my chopsticks and asked one waitress passing by for a pair, she completely ignored me. I then had to get up go to the front and ask again and was handed chopsticks. My fiancé finished his meal but I was still eating and had about half left of mine. I put my chopsticks down to take a drink and the waitress came over and asked as I was finished as she started to grab my dish! I said no, I“m still eating! In the time we came, we noticed two other tables come in after us, get their food before us and be done while we are eating, so maybe my timing is being generous and we had to wait even longer than I noted to order and get our food. Huge disappointment. If it continues this way, with this horrid service, I don’t see how they will stay in business. I would have given one star if not for the food which warrants the second star.

This place is a shadow of the original Aligado restaurant. Sushi is horrible. Smaller and shorter than regular rolls. Notice the height of the sushi. Spicy salmon had crunchy in it. Give me a break. They charge for the green tea. Seriously? And it’s so weak too. And they don’t even refill. The servers are inattentive. And are too busy eating their own dinner in full view while patrons wait to be served. LOL. Not coming back here.

Second time here if you count our take out experience, however first time to review. The service, food and presentation was perfect. We called in for reservations and our table was ready when we walked in. A roomy booth to fit 5 and we were immediately warmly greeted by our server. The place was buzzing with many regulars as I like to always chat with other patrons. Two people at our table has a gluten allergy and our server assured us all precautions would be taken and she brought out gluten free soy sauce. The restaurant has been totally redone in a warm an inviting atmosphere. They surely offer so much and the variety will appeal to everyone. You can sit at the sushi bar, a table or the hibachi. We had a table of very sushi picky people and all agreed the sushi was amazingly fresh, delicious and we would all return. Not only was the sushi amazing but the hibachi steak was perfectly made. We relaxed, hung out and our server kept checking in to see if we needed anything. The staff is so nice! This place deserves 41⁄2 stars on both visits! Gave 5 because I never understand how someone can give a bad rating to a restaurant on take out alone… booo to that person! Ok everyone this is a find in our area and suggest you to try this place. My only regret is it took me way too long to stop in for my original visit. Saw another UnilocalELITE review(Scott B.) and trusted it, so glad I did. A note to the owner… keep up the good work and your place will be around for a long time. 5 people and we ate very well for $ 25.00 a person. Remember this is BYOB! One more thing… it isn’t fair to rate a restaurant on take out alone!

This place is great. Food is excellent and the ambiance and atmosphere is great. What an amazing transformation of the interior of a space. Lots of different options with unique touches. Everything we had was top notch. Beef satay was best I have had. Fairy tuna roll was out of this world. Crab-Licious. Do yourself a favor and try this place as soon ad possible.

Ugh. Where to begin? Hub and I went for a last minute dinner tonight given 2 coups had on hand. We love hibachi, sushi, and Sapporo. Perfect for a casual Saturday night dinner. Or so we thought. We get there and we’re immediately seated — never asked if we want to do hibachi, so first red flag — we assume it’s only served table-side. Then we realize it’s BYO — which if they actually had a website, we would’ve brought ours. Hub sets off for liquor store, I scratch my head and silently give my second strike. While he’s at the liquor store, waitresses were kind of pushy so I ordered 2 apps — and by the time Hub shows back up(5 min) they’re on the table with soups and salads and ordered apps(did you even fire those fresh?). We order entrees and after 10 minutes our entrees show. I’m barely digesting as the food as coming at such a rapid pace. Food-wise — it was ok at best. Pork gyoza was edible. Sushi Tacos were interesting but weren’t impressive. My Thai basil chicken was flavorless but I liked that the rice was separate(despite her bringing the wrong kind of rice initially — probably because she was rushing). Hub’s «hibachi» was overcooked(well done steak. Ew. But he was never asked I guess), soggy veg and ok rice. It felt very. plastic, and the menu was very generic and sad. My biggest pet peeve is being rushed — going out to eat can be an event, so I beg servers — I get it, turn your tables, but don’t make me feel like an inconvenience. Here, we were so rushed and the waitresses were borderline creepy — anticipating your fork hitting the plate to ask you«can I get you anything else?». We were in and out in 45MINUTES. Sit down, beer run, apps, meal, asked for coffee(which there was NONE. What is that? How do you not have coffee???), paid and left. Power dinner for sure, and the restaurant was more than half empty. I can see why. We used 1 of our 2 coups and left the other on the table. We won’t be using it.

wow. that really sucked. my husband got takeout as I recently had surgery and am in no shape to go out. the rolls looked decent in the container, but upon trying to portion some out, they fell apart. they used copious amounts of green onion which typically disguises a bland meal in any type of cuisine. I don’t even know the names of rolls as they ensured we would never order again by not even giving us a menu. the spicy tuna had a rough aftertaste and the shrimp tempura was so greasy it was disgusting. absolutely disappointed. the gyoza was ice cold and I am absolutely dumbfounded at the wonderful reviews on here. stick with Fuji or matata. good Japanese food is a dime a dozen around here and this place isn’t worth another dime.

I’ve been to dozens of sushi restaurants in NJ and this is by far my favorite! The décor is beautiful inside, staff is friendly and the sushi is extremely fresh. The dynamite roll and the diamond girl roll were both amazing. And it’s bring your own! Will definitely be back soon!

I’m a sushi snob, and nothing about the look of the outside of Koi says«fresh sushi» to me. But when a friend raved about it I decided to give it a try. The moment I stepped into Koi I was hit with a wave of fried fish smell. Think alley in Chinatown. I guess it’s the hibachi and they need better ventilation. I almost walked out. The inside is beautiful, modern and clean. The outside needs some help, but that’s obviously not hurting them since the parking lot is full seven days a week. The sushi is fresh and unique. I had the Crispy Rice Cake(very good), the Phoenix Roll(also very good), and the Spicy Spider. The sushi is excellent.

I had some reservations about Koi before I finally dined there. The place it replaced, Aligado, was my favorite sushi place for close to a decade & its where I grew to enjoy and appreciate sushi. Thanks George! When he sold, I was sad to see him go, but was excited for the future, as the new owner Jackie seemed very enthusiastic. Flash forward to last night, and my how things change. Pulling up, the building looks similar, just cleaned up and new signage, awnings & paint. Once you open the door though, it’s entirely different. Glass tile, bamboo, etc. The place looks beautiful. The hibachi room is off to the back and hidden, which is kinda good, as you wont have to smell like a hibachi if you just want to get sushi. The hibachi also isn’t open yet… according to the owner, they were awaiting final approval from the town. Should be a ready in a few weeks. The menu, was a nice balance of new and old. There’s a lot of staples from the Aligado menu, along with a lot of new exciting entrees, apps and rolls. All the sushi we had was noticeably fresh & tasty. One of the things that really jumped out at us was the Treasure Island appetizer. Crunchy spicy tuna atop a seaweed, over thinly sliced avocado. It looked & tasted phenomenal. The seaweed salad was a perfect balance to the tuna & avocado! The presentation on all of everything was superb. The sushi came out on a massive platter and laid out beautifully. I wish I would have taken a picture. And as we ate our sushi, we watched a table order mostly hot food from the kitchen. They all looked and smelled great. It almost made us order a noodle dish after our sushi. My wife & I used to love coming here(when it was the old place) because the sushi was great, it was a nice relaxed atmosphere, ownership/staff were really nice, and the regulars became family to us. Koi has all of those characteristics & more. Last night, we ran into a table of 6 regulars who used to come all the time. After chatting with them, we were all in agreement — Koi is great and we cant wait to come back!

Nice renovation. They were very busy for a Saturday and we didn’t have much time since we were heading to a movie. We didn’t know what to expect. Positives. 1. We were seated fairly quickly. 2. Server had our wine glasses and waters within a minute or 2. 3. Nice menu. 4. Orders were placed 5. Sushi came out first. Crazy tuna roll was delicious 6. Main meals out shortly afterwards. 7. Everything was really good. No complai nts. 8. Great service Negative. 1. Salad could have been a bit larger. Was basically a few pieces of lettuce with a splash of ginger. Looking forward to going again.
